I don't understand all the negative reviews. I've had my issues with REU relating to solar panel allowances and yes, they're not the most friendly when it comes to customer service. But at this point their rates are around 16 cents/kwh which is WAAAAY lower than P,G,&E and almost any other utility in the state. Look it up for yourself if you don't believe me. Their electric service is incredibly reliable compared to P,G,&E. And for those who accuse them of being a greedy monopoly profiteering off us poor folks, you're just wrong. REU is a public utility. That means it's owned by us. If there were any profits, they would go to us. But since it's a nonprofit entity, they make no profit, which is on of the reasons rates are so low. read more

My family moved to beautiful Redding over a year and a half ago and don't regret it all. What's really shameful and frustrating that we're hearing from others in the community as well as our own experience is Redding Electric Utility lacks grace with its customers. It's another bureaucratic money making utility that definitely runs a monopoly on this is us who live in the city itself. There needs to be some more programs for people who struggle during seasons of financial hardship. I had surgery the beginning of July and am recovering, have a job to go back to but no income until I go back, all while my wife is holding down the fort (barely) All the while not getting any grace on our bill to help juggle, instead they just turn you off. Then to top it off they close out your bill and make you come up with an upwards of 1700 dollars to reinstate. Something needs to change in the way they conduct business. Yes they have a business to run, but also yes, they should be helping serve. My wife works from home and now our power is out. Worst company ever. A monopoly in the city of Redding that seems to do nothing for the improvement of the relationship between themselves and the community. As a water resource and electric company you know things have to change when your workers are sitting behind plexiglass booths with a security guard in the lobby. Call center reps take calls and are not able to give proper feedback. Their website makes patrons change the password from month to month and the reset password system does not comply. Late fees are administered a day or two after the due date which is unheard of. They still do not send updates to my email. They want to make things very difficult so that the patron feels the need to sign up for the auto pay system. This company does not hold the level of trust or consistency in their management to warrant such a request. Simply put it's a company that makes things more difficult for the consumer than it needs to be. read more

Absolutely terrble service. Dodgy and fishy. No compassion. They turned my electric off in 32 degree weather. I went to pay January and found out I missed December payment accidentally. I didnt receive notices in the mail that they claimed they sent. They tried to charge me a $300 late fee for it? When I called to get it figured out and see if they could remove some of that or explain the fees, everyone was so dodgy and couldn't explain them. There was an additional charge of $110 after the phone call. I had to pay $870 in order to TURN MY ELECTRIC BACK ON same day. The supervisors literally argued with me and gaslit me that they "sent the mail". One even took pleasure in the fact in correcting me that my bill was actually higher than I thought and told me to just "move around money" in order to pay that when my regular bill is $90 after telling him I dont have that kind of money but I need heat in the dead of winter and to be able to eat. No accountability taken, no apologies, no understanding. They told me Id only have to pay once for the month of Feb and now I have to pay another fee in a few days. Supervisor literally argued with me rather than taking accountability for their errors. So dodgy when confronted. Turned off my heat in the dead of winter. I had to pay it immediately so my dog and I didnt freeze and lost my food in the fridge. I called again to give them a chance to remedy it and was literally given such an attitude and argued with and gaslit and blamed BY SUPERVISORS. By the looks of these other reviews, I dont think I'll be getting the deposit back either. Fucking terrible. Not only that, but the man that came to my door to turn the power back on knocked on my door then when I opened it, yelled at me DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR, DONT LET YOUR DOG OUT?? These trashy assholes allowed someone else to open up a utility bill in my name. It was done by a previous landlord, who obviously had all my info, and I only found out about it when a $450 charge showed up on my credit! They let her do the whole thing over the phone. They claimed they went back and listened to the phone call and said it sounded enough like me that they're sure it was me. Oh, really? Two white females the same age may sound the same on the phone, especially when one is attempting to impersonate the other? Whaaaa? I never would have thought! What a crock of shit. I asked they go back and retrieve the phone number that call came from. Once I asked for that, now they're not returning my calls. And every time I call, I leave a message, no one calls me back still. Fuck this place. Fuck Redding, I'm so happy I got myself out of there. And as for the woman who did this, you'll get your karma, Traci Tripes, if you haven't already. Bought my home in Redding , they charged me $562.00 to establish service, told me I would get my full refund after a year , they gpt their refund , and on time payments a whole year since ive lived in the home , when time came for them to issue me my refund back to my bank account, that is when they began acting real fishy, they went into the system making suspicious adjustments to my account , and reversing payments that were made that had me at credit, I asked them to refund my money which the manager tried low balling me , trying to confuse me with codes created by city council. I wasn't buying it , then they charged me three times a complete full bill of $231.00 to eliminate my credit ,creating an erroneous balance telling me I owe them , to pay them, and they threatened to shut off my service , I've had not one issue with my bills until they were to refund me my credit of $562.00, so now they are saying I owed them $480.00 this is for three months worth of bills I already paid . So I get assistance from heap who sends them emergency funds totalling over the amount they claim I owed , heap sends them $518.00 + $352.00 , so after I went into city manager office to file a complaint the city manager contacted them that is when they decide to eliminate the late fees, and reverse their charges giving me my credit , I ordered them to refund me money, my full $362.00 credit that is on my utility account a rude manager got on the phone lying telling me "Oh we dont have the capabilities of issuing refunds" lying out of their teeth . I told them if you don't refund my money back to my account I will sue your company on grounds of unethical business practices , and embezzlement . I'm not fucking around with Redding utilities , they can steal other people money , but they will not steal mine. Now all of a sudden they want to pull a new erroneous bill out of their asses telling me they are going to use my credit I am owed to pay their erroneous bill. Beware no Compassion I have a house in Redding ca This is your only option for Utilities Unless you have solar . I have use there's service for a few months . I don't live up in the house so I turned off an on services . The last time I did turn off service I checked online there was a zero balance.So I decided to go up because of Covid19 I was on unemployment. I have been a responsible person I called this company they told me I was past due . I explained I never got a bill to my home where I live .they said they sent it twice . Never received the bill I as I'm talking to the person on the phone I paid what they said I owed . Then she told me I had to pay $400.00 deposit. Because I didn't pay the they bill . But I told that person over an over I never received the bill . They sent it to a collection Agency. Which now ruins my excellent credit. No compassion during this hard times . Power outages ETA!! Our bill is always paid on time yet company can't even supply paying customers with ETA on restoration of power during outages. RIDICULOUS. It's estimated not exact and you can't even do that. How professional during the winter hours to let residents and children and animals go without power, wondering for how long. read more

Be careful if you've never lived in Redding and are moving here. Redding electric required $1,000 deposit just to set up utilities. They also nickel-and-diming you for every little thing. Total shock moving to Redding and having to Fork out $1,000. They split it in 4 payments the first 4 months a starting their service. The only way they would waive it is if you're over a 800 Beacon on your credit score. They say they base the deposit on the previous tenants which is not fair due to the fact that only two of us live here and I guess there was a couple families living here before us. It really sucks as a renter having to deal with this. So we got a call from a manager there stating she read the notes of my complaint and decided to refund some of our deposit agreeing that they charged us too much. I give them respect for looking into our complaint and taking action. So i change the 1 to a 3. I still don't agree on a deposit over a few hundred, ill see how much they refund me. read more

During a power outage you would think that a hotline would give some information rather than just say sorry we're busy because of High call volumes. All you have to do is make a quick recording giving some information four people calling in so they know whether to turn on a generator for hours or if it's just for a few minutes.
