I went with a friend to Redding Sports when he needed bike parts and camping gear for a family reunion. The employees were attentive to both of us although I let them know that I was not doing any buying. I pay attention to customer service because my job involves customer service all day. Their merchandise is high quality. I especially liked the women's clothes. Personally I don't think that you have to be sports-minded at all to enjoy shopping at this store. They have lots to choose from. Parking could be a problem when they get busy. read more

I bought a bike at another LBS (local bike store) but I find myself nearly always bringing it into Sports Ltd. for repairs and tune-ups. Nothing against the other store, they're great people and will treat you fair. But Sports Ltd consistently trumps them on the customer experience. For one thing, Sports Ltd is fairly centrally located not far off one of the spurs of the Sacramento River Trail. Most importantly, they have long hours and a quick turnaround. I don't think I've ever had to leave my bike there over night. They have a great selection of gear and the guys are pretty damn friendly. Someone once said you don't buy the bike, you buy the store. If that's true, then when I buy my next bike, you can be sure I'll be buying it from Sports Ltd. read more

Wow. We are from Santa Cruz and my husband came into to rent a mountain bike. The staff was all SO helpful and kind. I had been to another chain sporting good store down the street earlier that day looking for a backpack. When I came here I was blown away by the selection! My wife bought me a sleeping pad when I was headed out of town for a fire. She couldn't find the one I originally wanted so she bought one here. I ended up finding the one I was looking for (for a lot cheaper) so I took the other one back to Sports LTD to return it. I literally never even unraveled or used the pad, just put it in the cab of the fire engine. The manager told the sales associate that they wouldn't take the return because a couple tiny smudges saying it was "dirty and couldn't be resold". Which is nonsense because it is still BRAND NEW. I purchased a Trek road bike from John Stein followed by my first Stumpjumper mountain bike in 1983. After he began working for Alpine Outfitters I bought another Stumpjumper and a Rockhopper for my wife in 1996. Though the business is now Sports Ltd., John and the entire crew of the bike shop continue to provide the same friendly, honest advice and consistently superlative service at a fair price. Thanks to John's remarkable experience, knowledge, and always frank and candid assessments, I recently sought his advice in selecting a new mountain bike, and just today purchased a 2017 Specialized Camber Comp for September delivery. I have shopped at Redding Sports LTD several times over the years. We have purchased technical climbing equipment, clothing, shoes, accessories, rented skis, purchased skis, and always been treated well. About a year ago my GF April and I were in the market for her first mountain bike. I bought my first bike from John Stein when he worked at The Sports Cottage (now closed). He treated me well and helped solve some issues I have due to my height and size. I later got to know John well through a shared interest in Geocaching. So we made a few trips to Sports LTD and talked with John and his bike staff about options. We also visited the other bike stores in town. We returned to Sports LTD for the purchase. John and his staff listened to April's needs for her bike and made some excellent recommendations on how to customize a bike for her. She ended up with a bike that she enjoys very much. I special ordered a Specialized Sequoia Gravel Bike from Sports LTD in June. When my new bike arrived, their Mechanic Joe assembled it and had it ready the day it was promised! These guys are great. I dont know a ton about cycling and they get a lot of that from customers im sure. I am learning a ton and want more every time i go in there They are passionate about bikes. I asked a lot of questions and they didnt blow me off. I didnt spend alot of money, but they were not offended i didnt spend more.They gave me great service with a smile. I have shopped at Sports LTD for years. I was very disappointed in the way I was treated when returning 4 sets of ski rental equipment. When I asked if I could have a store credit on a rental because we had to rent at the mountain for my 11 year old son because the boots and ski's didn't fit right. I was meet with accusations instead of good customer service. They argued with me over what amounted to $25. And they lost a customer that has spent thousands over the years on bikes, camping, and clothing. read more

I placed an order over 2 weeks ago and still haven't received it yet. Shipping is slow as s***. I got a notification saying my package was "shipped" on Sept. 2. Nope, they held onto the package for 4 more days before it actually got to the post office - didn't ship until Sept. 6 and I still don't have it and today is Sept. 15. They will help you find the best deal within your price range, and will even order in bikes for you to test drive. As an avid outdoor enthusiast I have shopped here since they opened 16 years ago. The staff have always been friendly. I bought a slackline kit at Redding Sports right before Christmas for my kids as the one I ordered from Santa was not going to arrive in time. Well two days before Christmas my slackline from Santa arrived. I decided to return the one from Redding Sports as it was considerably more expensive for the same product and the product had never been opened. When I took it in the staff person told me that the return window had passed (by 4 days) and they needed to check with the manager before they could issue a refund. I live about 50 miles away and this was the first time I had been to Redding since Christmas. The employee said she did not think it would be a problem however. Well...the manager said no so I took store credit as a last resort. I told the store employee that I would no longer be shopping there (except for the store credit part) and that I was going to post a review about the incident.
