It was a pretty simple process, and she was most helpful in directing you where to go. My next stop was the laboratory to have blood drawn before the procedure. After ringing the bell more than one time to gain admittance, I finally gained access after a passing employee swiped her card and let us in. The gentleman logging into a computer never acknowledged my presence much less say good morning. The person tasked with drawing blood never said hello, good morning, or anything of the sort. She looked like she didn't want to be there at all. My last stop of the morning was in the cardiac cath lab. Everyone was extremely attentive and the procedure was done without any problems. However, the care I received after the procedure (before being discharged home) was less than stellar. The nurse who handled the care was Kayleigh. At first she seemed attentive and came back every 15 minutes as was needed. However, at one point when she came back to check on me and do what was needed, she received a telephone call on her personal cell phone and without explanation she proceeded to leave to take a personal call and left without doing what was needed. When she came back several minutes later, she indicated that it was a call regarding her surgery, which was not something she needed to be telling me. She needed to just attend to me and what was needed to be done so I could be discharged home. Because of her delay in my care, it kept me there almost an hour longer. Health care workers need to realize that our lives are in their hands and their personal lives need to take a backseat to their JOBS!!!!!! This was a very stressful day for me as it was. I do realize that everyone has things they themselves are dealing with, but when you're being paid to do your JOB, you need to LEAVE IT AT THE DOOR and do your JOB!!!

Fast forward 5 years to NEGMC Braselton and what a difference in the quality of care and attention…read moregiven here at the hospital. 5 yrs ago, this place was brand new and I was dealing with my mother who is ill and passed away in 2021 this place was not up and going yet and the experience in the ER was shockingly unacceptable. April 22, five years later, I live in Winder now and I had a heart attack and my son took me to Winder Hospital where they didn't have a heart surgeon available. I was rushed over here to Braselton to the ER for emergency surgery and then spent the last three days in ICU, recovering from an unexpected heart attack and experience. I never thought I would have to go through. The staff here has been phenomenal. From the surgery by Dr Patel to the nurses who care for me for three days I had unbelievable care, my day nurse Deborah was outstanding and having never spent time in intensive care. They made it as pleasant as could be. Having met my first major medical issue in years, I thought it necessary to give this hospital a a review from the patient's side, not from a caregiver side, which is a totally different perspective. From being loaded in the ambulance and Winder and Durban over here that only was the Winder staff on point and supportive, the ambulance, driver and support in the back was comforting, and kept me calm, to the welcoming at the ER and finding my way to awaiting surgeons standing in the hallway to perform emergency surgery, I remained comfortable, the staff, and I wish I could name them. All allowed me to get through this experience to a quick recovery that I cannot be more appreciative of. And although I haven't got the bill, which will probably put me back in the hospital. I was reminded each time they ripped hair for to put new sticky pads on that. This was a free wax job, if losing a few hairs was the worst part of the process. I think I can live with that. Thank you all for a fantastic job. Most appreciative and humbled.!!!

She kept coming into my room and severely criticizing the doctor who was in charge of me. She made all sorts of crazy claims about him, and she really wanted me to know how bad of a person AND a doctor that he was. I was shocked. I liked the doctor. He was very thorough, friendly, and professional. Yet all afternoon she would come in telling me that "he was ignoring (me)", that she "was left alone to care for me", (and much worse) etc. She also told me horrible things about the hospital, and their management. She repeated her "ranting visits" for hours. I felt like I was in that movie "Misery", stuck there...with this angry woman. Her bizarre behaviors and angry comments were very disturbing (needless to say). I was already in pain, and she added a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety to my "visit". I have called the hospital several times over the past week about what happened, but they haven't returned ONE of my calls.

I want to take a moment to thank the staff at Northside Hospital Gwinnett, especially the PC Unit…read more1200. First, I want to recognize the Emergency Room staff. They were prompt and immediately saw about my mother, Miss Dennis, and made sure she was admitted and received the attention she needed. In moments like that, quick action means everything to a family. I also want to recognize the attending physician, Dr. Herschel W. Smith, who admitted my mother to the PC Unit. He was amazing. He saw the need for immediate care and made sure my mother was taken care of and placed where she needed to be. His attention and action made a real difference for our family. One nurse stood out the most -- Nurse Charlize. She truly understood her assignment. During a very stressful time while my mother was being cared for, I had many questions and a lot of emotions. Even when there were things she could not answer because she wasn't the doctor, she reassured me and helped calm my spirit. She listened, not just as a nurse but as a compassionate human being. I was even able to share some personal things that were weighing on me, and she took the time to hear me. That kind of care matters more than people realize. I have been a private nurse in the state of Georgia for 26 years and have worked with many families, including some of the wealthiest in Buckhead. I left that work to care for my own mother, and I know firsthand that true caregiving requires passion, patience, and heart. Nurse Charlize showed all of those qualities. To the doctors, I apologize if my frustration showed. I just wished I had understood more about my mother's condition sooner rather than waiting many hours for answers. But I appreciate that the team continued working toward the best care. Moments like these reveal people's character. When someone is frustrated, it takes a special person not to respond with the same energy. Nurse Charlize handled everything with professionalism and grace. Thank you, Northside, for caring not only for my mother but also for the family standing beside the patient. That compassion matters. -- Author M. Clark

11/12/2025: Consultation with Dr. Bruner for accidents that left my entire upper-back in constant…read morepain, bicep & wrist weakness, numb & tingly fingers. MRI showed 4 cervical herniated discs, but he recommended 1-level fusion (since he's performed ~4000 fusions & ~40 ADRs). Being young and otherwise healthy, I'm anti-fusion and advocated for artificial disc replacement. Unsure if Dr. Bruner is biased/had outdated information, but he assured me that fusion DOESN'T limit mobility & that FDA only approves of 1-level ADR [untrue]. To my distaste, Dr. Bruner downplayed the difficulty of performing each surgery & mentioned how surgery makes him money. I don't play about my pain and health issues, so he eventually agreed to do ADR on my C5-6 *emphasis on C5-6* 12/18/2025 Surgery Day: I arrived at Northside 9:30am and was in pre-op for HOURS hooked up to dilaudid IV, then Dr. Bruner walks into my room saying "Ready to replace C6-7? If I cannot access C6-7 to replace, can I do a fusion there instead?" I rejected the fusion and replied "I thought we were only replacing C5-6". He checks his notes then said "Oh, you're right. I usually don't apologize but I'm sorry." Ultimately, Dr. Bruner canceled my surgery b/c my "MRI was too old" (which he should've mentioned AT LAST MONTH'S CONSULTATION), ordered me to get new MRI, and wanted to reschedule surgery to next week. Once again, Dr. Bruner suggested that I be "open-minded to fusion" & mentioned gladly performing my surgery b/c it is easy and will put money into his pockets. I urged the importance of doing my surgery soon since the new year was approaching, meaning I would have different health insurance (Kaiser Permanente) and would have to restart the whole process again. He promised that if I get ADR surgery at Emory (under KP), he would refer me to trusted fellow neurosurgeons. I left the hospital at 4:30pm after SEVEN HOURS of NOTHING. My boyfriend was also there and witnessed this ordeal. 12/24/2025: Scheduler called me to reschedule surgery date and got annoyed that I was hesitant to follow through after my TERRIBLE experience with Dr. Bruner. Her tone was like I should be grateful that Dr. Bruner is willing to take time out of his Christmas vacation to operate on me AS IF IT WASN'T HIS FAULT IN THE FIRST PLACE. 1/2026: I chose the Emory route but Dr. Bruner refused to refer me to an Emory surgeon, lol who would've thought! TLDR: RUN !!! I've been in-and-out of doctors' offices for the past 4 years, and this is BY FAR the WORST healthcare experience I've EVER had. Dr. Bruner lives up to the negative neurosurgeon stereotypes (derogatory), Advanced Neurosurgery Associate front-desk lady is rude, surgery scheduler is rude. If helping people makes you miserable, then get another job! Only Toni the PA and the medsurg tech were pleasant.

We live 2.5 hour's away and when I came a week before my surgery for pre-op It looks like a nice hospital. My experience started off with registration then the surgery department where I met with an anesthesiologist, they were all very kind with positive attitudes I was impressed and it made the drive worth it if everybody here gave that kind of treatment. Surgery day arrives had to be there at 5:30am so we stayed in a hotel the night before. Again. registration, pre-op and anesthesia were all friendly, knowledgeable and I was put as ease that my post op pain would be managed as my last fusions they let the pain get out of control. Surgery went as expected, PACU (from what I remember) was great then I got moved to the surgery floor thats where the 3 stars come in I have been a nurse for 21 years I never tell anyone that I am a nurse unless i am asked. i understand being busy, short staffed and demanding patients and l try my best to not bug them unless i have to. The day shift crew was great. Then second shift came in started off nice for the first hour then the bad attitude started and did not stop for the whole 12 hours. I had to use the call light to ask for my PRN pain medication I know they just don't give it unless it asked for. So that's what I did to make sure my pain was under control. My pain was just getting under control and the nurse stated there is no need to ask for the first dose that she will bring on time and then I need to start asking if I need the medicine. I waited a hour and a half because I am sure she just got buy with another patient and I didn't want to be on the call light and bother her. Now I am in tears I am in so much pain so I finally pushed the call light and that's when the attitude started for the whole shift. I had alarms on my phone to remind me when it's time for meds and push the call light to make sure I did not get out of control pain that keeps me in the hospita longe. The supervisor nurse that was at the desk was always so rude saying you just had medicine your nurse was just in there and I told her well she wrote in the whiteboard in my room that I can have it then of course my nurse comes in with attitude. i will give the night shift nurse credit she did give me my pain meds attitude and all through the night and kept my pain as controlled as possible. The rooms look nice the beds are old and very uncomfortable very cheap normal patient hospital items like it looks like a 16oz styrofoam cup the tissues are so thin and course I have never seen tissues like that. No disposable wet wipes to help freshen up after surgery. I do not recommend Piedmont Eastside for the surgical floor.
