RedFarm earns a 10/10 from me. The menu options looked well-paired and thoughtful. I was satisfied with the taste, flavors, and wine pairing options. As a lover of Chinese food, I find traditional dim sum too heavy at times, so I'd categorize RedFarm as new Chinese or elevated dim sum. I ordered fried duck wontons paired with veggie curry, where the cauliflower was cooked to perfection. The duck dumplings were hearty, and the veggies in the stuffing added a fresh twist, kind of reminiscent of chicken lettuce wraps but with a duck and wonton spin. The pastrami egg roll was a pleasant surprise. I loved the delicious condensed milk and mustard dip, which I enjoyed so much that I asked to pack it to go. The crab and pork soup dumplings struck a good balance of flavors. The snow pea sprouts are often difficult to prepare well, and I don't usually buy and cook them on my own... They turned out perfect. The shrimp wonton soup was appetizing, and the crispy pork bun was well-paired with mustard greens on the plate. We had been wanting to try this out since reading about it in Eater Austin. Our waiter was Happy and he was super friendly, knowledgeable, and gave us excellent recommendations. We had the spicy crispy beef which wasn't too spicy and had a perfect crisp. Next was pork bao which were little, lightly fried, and drizzled with a tasty sauce. Went to Red Farm for NYE and overall the food was okay. The restaurant is beautiful and has a great warm feeling when you walk in. The location on 3rd makes parking a bit tedious. So just keep in mind, you may need to pay for parking or if you are in the area, Uber or walk if possible because we circled the block a few times then found an available parking garage. Service- the receptionist was so kind and was able to find us a seat inside. She definitely set the tone for us and was extremely hospitable. Our server was just as nice and helpful with her menu recommendations. Food is preferred to be ordered all at once so they can cater the timing which is pretty standard at most places. Food - we ordered the Mango / Arugula salad and it was okay, it had red onions that weren't blanched so it was a bit pungent but the dressing was tasty. Overall, not a bad starter but it was anything that I would seek out. We also ordered the fried salami egg rolls which were tasty but a bit greasy but it's fried meat so of course. We ordered some chili oil which elevated the flavor more than the mustard. The most disappointing dish we had was the gold coin scallion pancakes with black bean sauce and this wasn't great. The pancakes were dry and seemed to be a bit over cooked with little flavor and the black bean sauces seemed to be more of a sweet chili sauce , not black bean. We could've done without it. We got the crunchy vegetable dumplings and that was tasty with the sauce, we would recommend that. Dumplings were soft and done well however the price for 4 dumplings was higher than other places we've been to. For our main course we got the sea bass with Thai basil sauce and the sea bass was cooked so well with great buttery flavor however, the pairing could have been better. It's just a side of steamed vegetables maybe sautéed in garlic sauce but it was a bit underwhelming. You do need to order some rice on the side to pair which helped the overall. We ordered 1 cocktail and a tea which were both decent. Overall the experience was fine, would we come back or recommend? Not for the price, we have had other similar dishes and styles especially in dim sum and pricing wasn't as high. I understand it's suppose to be elevated but not worth the price. read more

My daughter was lucky enough to get a reservation - 8 o'clock on a Saturday night - apparently there are no more reservations for a month or so. She has just moved to Austin from the west village and RedFarm was a favorite. I drove over from Houston just for this dinner and I am so happy I did. They are still in their "soft opening" phase, so I was expecting some foibles in food or service, but both were excellent. Not quite a West Village vibe - there is space between tables - but it's loud and a server in a Grateful Dead tee made it close. I ordered an old fashioned (made with Japanese whisky) which was recommended and great, not a fruit salad like some people serve and garnished with a dried orange clipped to the glass with a tiny clothespin. For apps, we ordered crispy beef (highly recommended) and five spice chicken dumplings (good, but nothing special). The star of the meal was the Peking Duck. I've had duck in Beijing (formerly Peking) and this duck was as good, if not better, than what I had there. The skin was crunchy, the duck was moist and served with hoisin, peanut satay, and cranberry sauces along with tortillas (yes, tortillas, made with wheat flour and not the translucent rice flour). It is OMG good. It's special-occasion pricey (dinner for 2, food, bar,tip was a little over 300 bucks), but I will be returning. Even if you live in Houston, make a reservation and drive over - what's a two hour drive compared to a 12 hour flight to China? My pics don't capture the excellence of this dinner. read more

Greasy soggy egg rolls, flavorless dumplings, blanched frozen broccoli under a tiny $60 steak, absurdly small family style plates that means you'll leave hungry and sober unless you pay $100/person. The waiter encouraged us to order many family style dishes saying that he would coarse out the menu to create an enjoyable dining experience, but ALL of our dishes were brought within Minutes of each other causing food to get cold, stomachs to churn and the table to be crowded and unpleasant to dine at. Racked up a $300 tab and we were forced in and out in 35 minutes. Comes out to about 10 bucks per minute. At this price point, a dining experience should be enjoyed, savored, and relaxed. If the kitchen closes at nine, don't allow people to make 8:45 reservations! read more

I have been so excited to try this restaurant since it opened given all of the hype on instagram and other social media platforms. To say we were underwhelmed is an understatement. The ambiance is fine, but it is very very loud in the main dining room. It's a fairly casual place, but the waiters walking around in tattered Under Armour T-shirts was strange. They're really trying to push the large, communal table, but at least 2 parties ask to change tables to something more private. We ordered 3 different cocktails to start our dinner which were not brought out until we were finishing our last dish. Almost every dish was served with some type of stew or gravy which was really strange. We started with the crispy beef which was flavorful but was mainly fried batter with very little meat. Similar story for the duck wontons which were good once you got through the 75% fried batter to any meat or substance. These were served with a curry which was tasty but had a few random pieces or raw, unseasoned broccoli and carrots that seemed thrown in as an afterthought. We had two different orders of dumplings, each with three small pieces that were $15-20 each. Finally the filet and broccoli was an embarrassment at $52 for a few pieces of steak over some steamed broccoli florets. Overall, the food was average and leaned heavily on the sauces and gravies each dish was either served in or along side of. In no world will I go back there again and pay over $250 for that experience. read more

The restaurant was cutely decorated with mallard ducks all around the store. The service was amazing and they would come by and wipe the table every now and then. The plate I had received was dirty but had it switched out. The Peking duck was good. The meat was very tender and the skin is super crispy. The duck skin was a tad bit on the drier/leaner side. It came with three sauces: hoisin sauce, peanut sauce, and cranberry sauce. The hoisin and cranberry sauces were as expected with a liquid to medium consistency but the peanut sauce texture was a bit more on the thicker and chunkier side. It also came with some skin wrappers, cucumbers, and scallions. I don't think it is worth $120. The quality is good but it is not $100+ good. The crispy spicy beef has a really nice crunchy texture to it but it was not spicy at all and was not flavorful. The crispy duck wontons were accompanied by some spicy curry. It was super crispy and delicious but very hard to eat due to its size. The ratio of the wonton meat to crispy skin was un-proportional. The curry was spicier than the crispy beef and had a really nice curry flavor to it. It is understandable that this is a take on Asian cuisine so if you want authentic Asian flavors I would recommend elsewhere but if you're open to experiencing a modern take on Asian cuisine then you can give this place a try. Overall, the portion size and quality is not justifiable to the price. read more

Save your money and your time. Red Farm Austin is not fine dining. The spicy crispy beef arrived cold and not spicy. The "pork buns" are not legit buns but more like a wanna be dumpling. There was barely any pork inside and they were drenched in sauce. The snow pea shoots with garlic were overcooked. The duck was terrible. It arrived cold and the presentation was a mess. Service is also really weak. Not the Red Farm you expect if you've been to the NY location. I give this place less than a year. read more

The restaurant is so loud you can't have a normal conversation. The food was good (especially crispy beef) but WAY overpriced for the portions. Why are you literally charging NYC prices in Austin? The server made an inappropriate joke about the owner being an "Asian trapped in a Jew body" and I nearly got up and left. They kept wiping the table down (probably 7-8 times during the meal) which was excessive and weird - just get coasters if you're so worried about all the condensation from the glasses getting on the table. It felt strange that they were so concerned with wiping the table like it was ultra fine dining when all employees, including management, were in jeans and tee shirts or hoodies. Also, this was a birthday dinner and nothing was done to acknowledge it, like a comped dessert. (Which also I might have received when a server knocked my drink all over the table/me...but nope, no acknowledgement other than to wipe the table again and say the glassware was slippery.) No drinks and it was $130 and I left still kind of hungry, had to snag some ice cream/cookies to fill the void (the ice cream slapped at baked bear). All the food was delicious, but given the high prices ( $400 for 2 people), improvements are needed in the ambiance. The atmosphere currently resembles a casual diner experience, with poor and overly bright lighting. An easy solution would be to dim the lights and enhance the ambiance by adding candles to the tables. Consider taking inspiration from Uchiba, Wu Chow, and Qi Austin for ambiance tips. read more

We were really disappointed after a lot of anticipation. I've been to Red Farm in NYC and loved it. The food here was mediocre for the price. The soup dumplings were excellent but at $5 per dumpling (!!!) we were left feeling robbed. The lettuce wraps were bland and the 4 pieces of lettuce served weren't strong enough to hold the filling so we ended up eating it with a fork. The smoked chicken was completely bland and at $36 (!) was just chicken with some bland sauces (how does ginger sauce not taste like ginger?), side of rice was $5 extra. This was the most painful item to pay for. The bbq beef fried rice was ok, the beef was flavorful the rice was not. My soda with a splash of aperol? $14 each. I mean what in the actual f***. The cucumber mocktail was delicious at $12 which is par for downtown these days. With Qi and Wu Chow nearby, I would NEVER return here. Service and ambiance were good but not redeeming. We felt our $200 and time were completely wasted and wished we'd had gone to elsewhere instead. read more

Lot about this place I found to be annoying. 1st the price, it is crazy how expensive this place is and how much food you actually get. 2 service was ok server was good but he told us that the food would be serve family style, I thought cool (like at an authentic Chinese) but too bad that was a lie. I order the peanut chicken which was just ok but once again portion is small. The other food we order was the beef fried rice, but that came almost 10 min after. So I was annoyed . How you gonna say the food is family style but there's a 10 min span between plates? So of course by the time fried rice came the chicken was slightly cold. The place is just pretty much an " Chinese inspired" restaurant. You can tell by the clientele. Like I always believe unless you're in NYC the good Chinese restaurants is not found in the city they are almost ALWAYS in the suburbs. Overall would not recommend if you in the mood for Chinese. Might be a good place for a good date that doesn't have the most expansive pallet in Asian food tho. Drink was good but once again everything is over priced. First time at Red Farm and we will definitely be back! The dim sum brunch was fantastic and we loved the watermelon cocktail off the dinner menu. A great recommendation from the manager. One friend is vegetarian and she said there were many more options than she normally finds at Austin restaurants. Also gluten-free! It can be hard getting a reservation for dinner so I definitely recommend trying brunch instead. read more
