Oh dear. My prediction is that RedFarm will not be here in another 1-2 years. Prime dimsum time on Sunday and they only had about 3 groups in the restaurant. And I can understand why. Middling dimsum at very expensive prices. Don't get me wrong, I will pay for good food made with fresh ingredients, but that is not what you get at redfarm. Let's start with the yuzu arugula mango salad. The mango was so old that it had light brown spots on it and the entire salad was overdressed. Despite that, there was not a hint of yuzu. We ordered it because our kids like mango and we needed veggie options, but RedFarm should really not have out-of-season options. The peashoots were so so old that they were chewy and terribly tough. The Pac-Man shrimp dumplings and the duck wok-fried noodles were the best things there but are not worth $19 and $30 for small portions and mediocre dimsum and wok work. The duck was chewy. We also had other unmemorable dimsum there. The service was attentive but slow. I really do not recommend RedFarm. Qi is a much better option if you are downtown. read more

Ok I'm just gonna come right out and say that yes this place is expensive. But if you order the right things--it's definitely worth it and the flavors really deliver. So let me help you... Crispy Spicy Beef- Order this. It's not spicy but definitely crispy and a unique starter Duck Lettuce Wraps- Order this. Enough for 3 to share and a very filling start to the meal. Plus who doesn't love lettuce wraps I mean come on! Pastrami Eggroll--This one FLOORED me. It was crazy good and probably the reason why this restaurant got big. There's only one roll in the order though (It's HUGE) but if you're with a group of 4 get 2 orders Bacon Fried Rice- Definitely tasted like an elevated version of fried rice. Lots of veggies too and not greasy. Drinks- Skip these. They are overpriced and there other cocktail bars in the area with better mixes. Service was excellent. I will say service was amazing. Our server was attentive and his team ran food and drinks out in a timely manner. We made it there for happy hour. Specialty drinks were $10 compared to the $16-18 normal price. We tried a ton of appetizers bc they were discounted on happy hour. Top faves were the crispy beef, the candied walnuts with shrimp, and the shrimp and pork shumai. I was disappointed with the majority of the entrees. The only ones I thought were decent were the fried rices. Probably the best was the duck fried rice that I ordered Togo and ate the next day. The black cod fish had a nice flavor but the veggies lacked any flavor. The 3 Chile chicken was good but only bc it was spicy. The tofu was super slimy. The Cheesecake Factory of dim sum. No no no no. The prices at this restaurant are criminal. $12 for TWO mediocre fried shrimp. $20 for 4 soup dumplings with rubbery skin and under seasoned soup. The service was nice but this place is extremely mid and overpriced. I was shook by the price to size ratio of the food. I get that we are in downtown Austin but if you're charging these prices your food better knock me outta the park. The food here barely registers as flavorful and is definitely not anything to write home about. Nothing was bad but nothing was great. It was all fine and small and underwhelming. There are so many other delicious dim sum restaurants to go to in Austin (see:Qi) that are so much more reasonable price wise. I'm shocked that fellow yelpers have given such low ratings for RedFarm. Originally conceived in New York, the Austin Branch opened a year or two ago. We went to RedFarm for a private party, and we had an incredible smorgasbord of different yummy Chinese dim sums and dishes. RedFarm is a high end interpretation of some of the best delicacies of Cantonese and Northern Chinese cuisine. If you are looking for super authentic Chinese, I'm not sure RedFarm will be your jam. But if you are looking for a fun and trendy place with yummy Chinese food then... THIS is among Austin's best. Yeah it's expensive... but isn't that common with all new restaurants with beautiful digs? We eat mostly whole food plant based and had plenty to eat. For the omnivores at the table, the Peking duck and soup dumplings looked like hits. read more

Everything was bland... except the Truffle Mushroom Scallion Pancakes which was really just all mushroom topping and no discernible truffle flavor on overly thick half dollar size scallion pancake which had no flavor by itself....so the 3 Chili Chicken needed seasoning badly but the spice of the chiles was okay. Then there were the Wide Rice Noodles with Duck. The duck skin was grossly soft and flabby, not crispy at all and noodles were mushy. Service - 3 stars. He came off as very arrogant and mildly dismissive when answering menu questions but was knowledgeable. And very opinionated about what to get and what not to get without being asked. Ambience - 2 stars. Very, very loud. Tables also very close together. Definitely NOT an intimate or upscale experience. I read that it was beautiful. Where??? Prices are ridiculously high. $19.25 - 4 chicken dumplings $19 - 4 coin sized scallion pancakes with no discernible truffle taste $32 - for an average, regular chicken Chinese dish that they charged an extra $5 for a scoop of white rice because it doesn't come with rice $105 for one Peking duck This is a place we will never, ever go to again. read more

Totally enjoyed this meal and the overall vibes of the restaurant! They also had an excellent wine list! The service was also stellar I felt like the staff was friendly, knowledgeable about the food and over all wanted me to enjoy my meal! My friend Lauren has some severe allergies and they easily accommodated all our food so it was safe to eat! Thank you Red Farm! Still dreaming of the spicy crispy beef! It was so good! So I've been wanting to check this place out ever since I heard the whole hype about it. I kept getting mixed reviews about it. Some people said it was good other people said it was too overpriced for what they offered. I have to say that the staff there is so attentive and so nice That it made the experience even better. The place is really really cute. I am not overly loud. I like that you can still converse with someone and enjoy the atmosphere. I love that your waiter is able to tell you what they recommend and how to order. They let us know that it's always good to put the whole order in since the dishes come out as are ready. The first dish we got that was ready first was a hot and sour soup. No this had a very good spice cake and I have to say was very good. I love that it had shiitake mushrooms and the shrimp that comes with it was amazing. After this, they brought us the spicy crispy beef, I have to say the flavor was very nice, but there was no spice to it so adding the chili oil that they bring you help it. Our next dish were the lamb dumplings I have to say those were delicious and totally worth getting.after that, they brought us the pastrami eggrolls, which are a huge different take on any egg I've ever had and I have to say it is a must try. Next they brought us the duck with noodles which I have to say was delicious and you must order this plate. Lastly, they brought us the applewood smoked bacon fried rice, which I have to say was OK I didn't feel it had much flavor, so I personally wouldn't order that again. I cannot give this restaurant enough praise. I came here with a girlfriend of mine and we had a lovely experience. The staff were extremely nice!! We had many people come up to check on us and ask for our feedback. Our server, Eli was incredible. He was SO helpful for suggestions and giving fun conversation it truly made our experience. Austin's newest restaurant is booked out for the next few weeks and to my surprise my friend and I were able to snag a spot at the communal table which was great. They start the experience with a caveat that the current menu is being expanded over the next few weeks as they are currently looking to hire more dumpling chefs and.. it is what it is there. When it came to the drinks my buddy got this one with a yuzu foam on top and that one was insane - I give them a lot of credit for how good it was. As for the food, there were some hits and misses. Misses: - Spicy Crispy Beef: not spicy at all and the flavor from the sauce was pretty mute - Three Chili Chicken: similar sentiments as above Hits: - Hot & Sour Soup with grilled shrimp: probably some of the best I ever had, this is a MUST get - Key Lime Pie: kinda sticks out on this menu, but it was damn good The last item that I feel conflicted on is the Peking Duck - great flavor and texture. Good amount of pancakes on the side, though there could have been more sauce! Now the conflict is with the price, I understand this is a higher end spot, but $115 for 10 oz.? A bit steep. All in all, I had higher expectations coming into here. They have some work to do and I would have wanted to give them a 4/5, but they couldn't quite get there on this experience. I would think if you'd made a reservation you could get an acactual table, there were plenty of open tables when we were sat. We ordered soup dumplings, lettuce wraps, & pac-man dumplings for dim sum. The lettuce wraps were good, the soup dumpling were fine but over priced in my opinion, and the pac-man dumplings lacked flavor. For entrees we got: Spicy Beef - A little salty but yum! Crispy Skin Smoked Chicken - No, underwhelming and the skin wasn't even crispy at all. Wide Rice Noodles w/ BBQ Duck- My favorite! Would order again. The Peking duck was legit the best duck I've ever had. Omg it was so yummy and tender we devoured it in minutes. The other rockstar dish was definitely the pastrami egg roll. So incredibly delicious. I also loved their wine selection! The Cabernet for $15 a glass was sooooo good. It's refreshing to see an affordable good glass of cab on a menu too. Lastly, the toilets are heated! Very fancy!!! My friend was an investor so we got to do a tour of the kitchen with Jeff, who was awesome. Super cool to check everything out behind the scenes. Well the service was nice and I like the concept of bringing food out as it is ready... however! I think everything was already ready hours before as it all came out cold and within minutes. At least toss this stuff in an oven or even a microwave for me. The outdoor seating area is pretty decent but the red lighting was not fun for me. So other than the food being cold, it all tasted like things you could easily make at home. Not sure if that's what they're going for, but I don't like when I eat food and it reminds me of a worse version of something I made at home. THREE CHILI CHICKEN, PEANUTS - Just a subpar dish that tastes like soy and sugar. Any heat to it? Of course not! They tell you that the peppers are only for decoration but I ate them anyway. Best part of the entire meal was experiencing -something- via the spice of the peppers I naughtily ate. SPICY CRISPY BEEF - I hope you like ginger (and of course soy + sugar) because you're getting a lot of it. I swear I was biting into a thumb of ginger with some of these bites, but the more balanced bites were tolerable. JUMBO SHRIMP WITH SEASONAL VEGETABLES, CASHEWS & XO SAUCE - You're gonna get your dose of soy-sugar here too but I think it was executed a bit better here. Had some balance to it. Still not good. PAN FRIED LAMB DUMPLINGS (4) - A bit mushy and simply didn't taste good to me. Maybe I don't like lamb as much as I thought, but something was amiss here. I would have been upset if I had paid $10 per plate for this at some national Chinese chain, but the icing on the cake was that this was all about $118 total. I'd also much rather prefer to go to a national Chinese chain. This is what 1-star tastes like. Red Farm. EAT DESSERT FIRST! The best Keylime pie in the world is at RedFarm. I was lucky to snag a seat at the bar during a walk in on their second night open. The vibe was lively and they have an option of a quieter patio, which is nice. Service was excellent. The bartender Jen makes delicious. cocktails starting me off with a Mezcal and pineapple drink called the Marisol. she guided me on some of the house favorites, including the extra crispy beef (a.k.a. beef crack!) which was very tasty. Thin strips of ribeye fried two crispy perfection with a umami sauce that is not overpowering. Next Jen suggested the codfish, which was perfectly marinated and melt in your mouth goodness. The portion looked to be on the smaller side, but it actually was very filling. Great selection of wines. There's an excellent dry Riesling and an unoaked Chardonnay called Tyler. Great to meet chef and proprietor Joe Ng too. you can tell the staff is tighten it and I am excited for all their success in a 2nd Street district. Only thing they need to do now is get parking validation worked out as $30 parking in the AMLI Street garage is quite steep. I would recommend this place in down town for some pretty good Asian food the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because the meat we had in the fried rice was a little tough and chewy and also the peeking duck me and my father order I wish the rappers didn't look so much like tortillas at a Mexican restaurant and so stuck together but also the green onions, duck sauce,and cucumbers should be a bigger potion size and should match the ratio of the peeking duck because there was plenty of meat but not enough sauce or veg to compliment it. She brought us a free dessert of our choice for our anniversary. They also significantly discounted our check because the music on the patio where we were sitting was pretty loud and couldn't be turned down. Honestly it really wasn't a problem for us! But their attention to detail and kindness meant a lot to us. But why you're really here... the food! - Crispy Spicy Beef was - Pan fried pork buns were amazing - Applewood smoked bacon fried rice was delicious - Pork and crab soup dumplings were sooooooo good - Pastrami eggrolls were really good but maybe not our favorite - Five Flavor chicken dumplings were very peanut forward but we both liked that! - Gold coin scallion pancakes were good. Loved the sauce that came with them. We ordered soooo much food (too much) so if I had to take something off it would be those. - crispy duck and crab dumplings did nothing for me. We had reservations for a Sunday for dinner. There were a lot of empty tables and only 3 other parties there. Service was great and the ambience was good but I wish so many tables open and available they would have sitted us and the neighbor party... not right next to each other since there was plenty of space. We couldn't hear our conversation because we were seated too close to the other party. Dining would have been more enjoyable and not a repeat of conversation because of no one can hear each other. Place is striving for upscale and the prices for the dishes are set on the higher end. We had ordered the following: 1. PAC man shrimp dumplings - 1/5: love the creativity of this dish but it just feels short. The dumpling was thick and chewy almost like it still needed time to steam. 2. Pan fried pork buns 5/5: one of the best dish we had. Great ratio between meat to bun. Flavorful and the dough wasn't thick which I love. There were grounded beef topped on the bun. Unique to have and change of flavors between the two different meat. Crispy bun and highly recommended this dish. 3. Spicy crispy beef - 2/5 was crispy but had no heat whatsoever. Very small portion and was salty to eat by itself. Not served with rice. 4. Applewood smoked bacon fried rice: 5/5 I was pleasantly surprised how great this dish was. I never had bacon fried rice and this one was stellar. Smoky crunchy and was seasoned well. Balanced and love the pop of green onions in it. Perfect ratio to share amongst 4 ppl. 5. Wide rice noodle with duck- 1/5: before ordering I had ask the staff if the duck skin was crispy? He said yes, the duck skin was not crispy and it was rubbery. Wide noodles were mushy and was too salty. One noted. 6. Grilled prime steak with asparagus- 1/5: tender but the steak was served in a liquid marinade sauce. Flavor was ok. 7. Mushroom & veggie spring rolls - 1/5: super hard to eat because the spring rolls had crispy tops sticking out of one end. It was presented like 2 eggroll "tree" stuck on sticks into a a base cucumber stand. Eggroll was mushy side and lacked flavor. Super oily outside and inside like the eggroll was not completely sealed and the fry oil got into the eggroll. 2/7 dishes we liked. Proportions are small and food is super over priced for the quality and quantity of the food. The most disappointed was the one with the duck. If the staff had said the skin wasn't crispy we would have not ordered it. Thank goodness we didn't ordered the whole duck. Honesty is the best policy. Went for dinner with a couple of friends yesterday. Wow, can't believe this place is able to get away with charging that much and surviving downtown. Let's break it down. Note- they were not busy. Service: took a while for the server to come back around to take our order after giving us the water. We had to wave to get his attention. In addition, we asked for straws and he bought us one for the table. One of us had a cocktail that they must have forgotten because we had to asked about it again after receiving all our food (already done with appetizer and dinner dishes came out already). There was a serving spoon for only one dish. My water was never refilled and it was out early on. Our $24 Wok-Fried STRING BEANS & Brussel Sprouts did NOT have any string beans. There was a lot of bell peppers in strips to look like string beans (?). The $38 Jumbo Shrimp, CASHEWS & XO Sauce did NOT have any cashews but did have plenty of garlic slices to look like cashews (?). When we asked a different staff member (since our server was never around) about these two dishes, she told us that they do not have string beans that night and they ran out of cashews. We were not informed of this when ordering and should have been told. Our server was not rude but not present, not informative, and seems like he really doesn't want to be there. FOOD: *Spicy Crispy Beef $21- the best dish of the 4 dishes we ordered but nothing special. It was a little too salty but ok with rice (order separately). It is similar to orange beef except without the tangy flavor. *Jumbo Shrimp & Cashews & XO $38- we did not have cashews, and the seasonal vegetables were mostly strips of carrots and broccoli stems. Not impressed with the flavor. *Wok-Fried String Beans & Brussel Sprouts $24 - Flavor is nothing special. We had only brussels sprouts and lots of green bell peppers. Like previously mentioned, no string beans *BBQ Duck Fried Rice $29 - decent, probably the best one of the 4 dishes we had. But don't expect a lot of duck. The duck was diced up very small so you really can't taste the full flavor unless you pick the pieces up and eat them separately. I can't comment on the cocktail since I did not have one but my friend did not complain about it. Parking: street parking so it took us a long time to find one but this is expected for downtown. The staff that told us about the string beans and cashews did share the information with our server and he removed the dishes from the bill (we did not ask for this). Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes and maybe the server was off his game that night. Whatever it is, it is enough for us to not go back, not even for Happy Hour. read more

Our server did a great job monitoring our allergy needs though we had to tell her, she never asked and there was no accounting for the fact we had mentioned it when making the reservation. Favorites were the El Sabio cocktail, friend rice with crispy beef, and scallion pancakes. The casual nature of the wait staff's t-shirts is bizarre for a restaurant of this caliber. I'm not suggesting formal attire but there's something between your UT school of natural sciences over-sized t-shirt and a tuxedo. Service still needs some work. Our server could answer questions about the food but was robotic, almost like she'd never eaten it. And she never came by our table after our entrees were served. I had to flag someone down to order another drink after telling the server I needed a moment to look at the menu--again she never came back. We were celebrating a birthday--I noted it in our reservation and told the server but nothing was offered or done which was surprising. RedFarm is a fantastic new addition to the Austin scene and I am excited to try it again once they fully get their menu up and running. The food was delicious and the service excellent though we definitely liked some things more than others. We got there early but before we were done every table was full and the place was bustling! Comfortable but not loud we really enjoyed the space. First the cocktails we ordered - Eastside Roku & El Sabio - were both inspired and delicious. Don't miss the tea as well it is also fantastic! Food-wise we found our selections hit or miss which is where I dropped star. We loved the spicy crispy beef -- I'm still thinking about it two days later. Also the marinated BBQ short ribs were delicious and I would definitely get those again. On the flip side the chicken dumplings and the bacon fried rice both were a disappointment. The dumplings were simply bland and uninteresting and the rice lacked flavor and was in desperate need of salt. Had we saved the spicy crispy beef to mix with the rice it might have brought things together a bit! Finally the pork & shrimp shumai landed somewhere in the middle -- just good. Last the dessert - key lime pie as advertised was incredible. Coming from living in Florida many years I'd say this was one of my top five. I'm eager to try RedFarm again in the future as they will undoubtedly keep getting better with time. I was excited to try this restaurant but unfortunately, the hype did not live up to expectations. The crispy beef came out cold and had very little actual beef in the dish (mostly breading). The lamb dumplings and the pork+shrimp shumai were probably our favorite things on the menu. The three chili chicken was a bit undercooked and the duck in the wide noodles was a bit slimy. I wonder if the kitchen is still working things out as the restaurant recently opened. We had a nice time there. It might be a little pricey for what it is but everything was tasty. The service was good, and the restaurant was cute. I appreciated that despite it just being two of us they still sat us at a booth unprompted so we could enjoy a cozy date night out. They do ask you order everything at once and they'll course it out. This isn't a practice I enjoy and I would have liked some dumplings with my cocktail while we figured out mains. Be aware, we went planning to use a deal on inKind. The manager and Giovanni, our server were beyond excellent (on Aug 28, 2024) . Every aspect of the experience from the time we entered to the dessert was A+++ both in terms of food quality but service. My friend and I were celebrating our birthdays and this was worth every penny. Must haves: the ribeye steak was a huge portion and melt in your mouth level tender. We got the lobster and egg dish which was beautifully presented and tasty as heck. Be sure to ask for the desserts on offer, they aren't on the menu but they are amazing (we had a key lime pie, and chocolate soup dumplings). Austin outpost of a NYC favorite. Some things are fantastic and others are just ok. I love the Peking duck - more than enough for three when you get other dishes. I also love the gyoza. I'm only ok on the duck lettuce cups and the pastrami egg roll. The patio is great people watching and well shaded. Service is pretty good as well. read more

Red Farm Austin is a trendy new restaurant on 7th. If you're not a fan of duck, Red Farm will turn you into a convert. The wild rice noodle with bbq Peking duck was delicious. Also, I'd highly recommend the Chilean sea bass. Happy Buddha, our vegetarian dish with lotus root and mushrooms was also excellent. It is part of their Lunar New Year menu so not sure how long it will last. I have had some wonderful Asian desserts but wasn't excited with their options. Cocktails were great. The first four dishes were great! Crispy beef, walnut shrimp, shrimp Snow pea dumplings and pork buns. But the last two pastrami egg roll was so so and the soup dumplings were undercooked, starchy and doughy. Ice tea is charged per refill, Just like New York and these are New York owners but seriously this is Austin. Our waiter did not tell us this. Ambience is very nice, service was wonderful, food came out in stages like you want with dim sum. So stick to water, do not order soup Dumplings. We will come back and try again. read more

I casually dropped in for happy hour for a glass of wine. Wow! I was surprised! I started with the candied walnut shrimp with yuzu & wasabi, then, Kowloon beef tarts, BBQ Duck lettuce wraps, pastrami egg rolls, a variety of dumplings, steamed redfish in a lotus leaf, all carefully curated by Jacob. What could I get delivered on Christmas? Thank goodness for RedFarm. I looked at the menu, and was like, oh my gosh, everything looks delicious. And it was! I got the beef fried rice and the Chinese broccoli and shiitake mushrooms. Both were so amazingly flavorful and yummy. And I have plenty left over for today. read more
