It took me a while to find this place to color my hair. A bit of background is that I'm picky and do some research before submitting an appointment request. Why I chose this place was that my hair stylist has done balayage without bleaching people's hair. That really sold me as I perused her work on instagram and chose trust. I patiently waited for my appointment (it wasn't available for me and her til 1!! month later). Prior to seeing her, I Instagram messaged her and she was very friendly with her response. Her name is Arisa and she welcomed me warmly during my appointment. Since it was early, it was just me and another customer so the vibe was quite chill. Arisa did everything including washing my hair, choosing the perfect minimalistic brown to coloring and cutting my hair. I loved how she listened to what I liked and gave me the perfect wintry balayage brown. I actually cannot wait to go again (although my wallet definitely can). If you wanted to color your hair and try to have a low maintenance no bleach, I'd highly recommend redge, specifically Arisa! read more

I was really nervous about as close contact as getting my hair done, but a few months of home-hair-hacking proved just how good Saeko is!!! I made my appointment with the expectation that Redge salon is smart and responsible, and they are! They've de-densified the seating at any time and extended some hours, so that you're a recommended distance from any other client. Absolutely in love with my new hair color and cut by Arisa! I came in for a balayage and cut on natural un-dyed hair, and Arisa worked her magic. I showed her detailed photos of exactly what I wanted and asked her for some input and she gave me a tailored result! Today my teenage daughter went in for a haircut with Toshi and it was an awful experience. First, we arrived on time but he was still cutting the hair of the person before. She started 15 minutes late. Second, she asked for the hair to be cut to a bob length and he kept saying yes but then didn't. He thinned the hair out but left the back of the hair long and down to the middle of her back. We asked repeatedly but he just wouldn't cut it. It's now short in the front but long in the back - like a bad mullet. Finally, since the cut didn't actually start until 12:40 after shampooing, and he wanted to start his next client right on time at 1:00, he basically rushed his way through for a 20 minute horrible haircut. Then he had the audacity to suggest that my daughter get extensions to blend the short part in the front with the long part in the back. We knew he just wasn't up to the task of actually cutting her hair and making her look good at this point, so we just left. It was an awful experience and we will never return. read more

I have been using Redge for over a decade. I initially started with Toshi who is great but when he was on vacation and I desperately needed a cut, I had an appointment with Lisa. Lisa is fantastic and has been "styling" my hair for years now. I am low maintenance with my hair except for using a straightening iron a few times a month so Lisa always give me the best cuts that don't require a lot of work. I had no idea what shade of brown I wanted and she did a great job of showing me the different options and allowing me to choose but also giving my guidance on what would look best with my coloring. I received a horrific haircut and perm by Yuka. Not only did she double book my 2pm session with another client (which delayed my appointment by 40 minutes), her attitude was very curt and unfriendly. I wanted a haircut and perm combo and I showed her all the references. I also specifically told her I did not want to thin out my hair. She had no questions so we proceeded. She thinned out 80% of my hair which left me flabbergasted. I'm really proud of having a lot of hair but she just decided against my wishes to thin it all out. I wish this was the worst part of my session with her but the worst was yet to come. When she got to the perming part, I thought I was sitting on the seat of Sweeney Todd. Every time she rolled up my hair in the roller towards my scalp, she yanked out what seemed like 50 strands of hair per roller. She put in about 14-18 rollers so imagine the pain and horror of having 50 strands of hair suddenly being yanked out of your scalp every 5-10 seconds. Tears welled up in my eyes and Yuka igorned me. And the reason for her unprofessional carelessness in causing me immense physical pain? Because she was rushing to finish my session before the next one started since she had double booked. The entire session including the hair wash, haircut, perm, and drying took 1 hour. In what universe can you do all that adequately in 1 hour? Just having a wash and haircut can take up a full hour. Any decent stylist would take the time and care to do a good job. The only thing that mattered to Yuka, however, was to speed through and get me out of the seat as fast as possible. The end result of my hair was as traumatic as the journey it took to get there. It looked nothing like the many references that I showed Yuka. I wanted a chic relaxed beachy wave perm. What I got instead was an unflattering Professor Snape hairstyle (no kidding--that is what the first person who saw me said). During the session, I was fighting back tears of pain but as I was walking out of the salon I was fighting back tears of disgust and anger of having this atrocious ugly mess being done to my hair. And the kicker is, Yuka hinted on being tipped. And like an idiot I tipped her because I'm a pushover. Looking back, I probably should have said "you think you deserve tip after what you have done to me?" I was probably in my right to demand to see the manager right there and then. But instead, I walked away crying, chanting to myself "it's only hair, it'll grow back." Initially, I overlooked the fact that my session was double booked as mistakes can happen but what happened afterwards is inexcusable. Yuka's deliberate negligence towards me cause me a lot of physical pain. For weeks afterwards, my scalp was in so much pain that I couldn't brush my hair. A significant amount of hair kept falling out of my head when I ran my fingers through it and globs upon globs of hair on the shower drain. I know what my usual hair fallout amount is, this was 10x that amount. I lost so much hair I thought I was having perm-induced alopecia. I did a lot of research before I choose this salon. It had such great reviews. It just goes it show, you can't be certain of getting good service anywhere. Perhaps, in this case it wasn't the salon that was the issue as many reviewers have commented on and vouched for their favorite stylist. I just happen to be gravely unlucky to get assigned with Yuka. I've been sitting in this review for over a year now and I've finally decided on sharing it. I held back because I don't want write a bad review that could hurt a business. But I want to share my experience because I don't want any other unsuspecting people to go through the hair trauma I did. Choose your stylist wisely people. read more

Saeko cut three inches and gave me layers today. She did a wonderful job. She even managed to curl my hair with just a hair dryer and a round brush, even though my hair never curls easily. My hair was also washed by the salon and it included a scalp massage which was amazing. Sometimes people are rough when washing my hair since it's so thick, but Redge was fantastic. I even got a massage by Saeko before she cut my hair :). Overall, I was happy with the length and the communication between Saeko and I! Will come back :). The price was also great! read more

I participated as a hair model at Redge salon for Nozomi, a stylist from Japan fairly new to the area. The salon was bright and had a warm atmosphere. Everyone was very friendly. Had a great experience at Redge! I forgot the girl's name, but I wanted to get about 4" off my hair and just switch it up. I ended up paying $63 which I thought is a great price in NY for a cut. I enjoyed that she kind of let me relax during the haircut and took my lead and didn't talk too much :) the shampoo and blow dry was included. I left feeling much lighter. I was also able to get a last minute appointment which is always a plus. Only one star taken away because they never even offered water or anything to drink. But I'm happy with the cut! read more

I'm really glad I discovered this place. Lately I've been disappointed in all of my haircuts and I've tried going everywhere from the high end barber shops to the local cut and shave spots. I happened to stumble on Redgrave while looking for a unisex salon and after seeing the great the reviews I decided to try them out. I've now had Yuka cut my hair twice and both times were amazing. She was able to do something with a little edge but that I could still use in the formal office setting that I work in. On top of it, Redge's spaces are great- clean, minimalist, and welcoming. They make a great cup of green tea and the head massage while they wash your hair is a nice perk! All this and a men's cut is 55 bucks which is about the price at a high end barber shop where they don't wash your hair. read more

Absolutely loved my first experience at Redge. Yuka was my stylist. She was very diligent and patient during the consultation to make sure I was happy with the shade before coloring my hair. I have naturally dark black hair and had some grown out blonde highlights that I wanted to cover. She ended up giving me a chocolate brown balayage and Instead of completely covering the blonde strands she blended them in with the brown. I highly recommend getting a haircut at Redge Salon with Emma. Just before the city closed down back in February, I cut my waist-length hair to a short pixie cut. Always wanted to try the pixie look. After much thought, I took a leap of faith and went ahead with it. Emma was soo helpful in making me comfortable during the process. She started with a quick consultation. Then, she washed my hair and proceeded with the cut. Afterwards, she rinsed my hair again and styled it. She made sure I was happy with the cut before we were done. I was even given instructions on how and what kind of products to style my new haircut. The tips were very helpful since I had no idea how to maintain short hair (very different vs long). After my initial cut and post quarantine, I went back to Emma twice to trim my hair back to pixie length. Every staff uses PPE and keeps social distancing. read more

I have been coming here for a year, now. I started with Saeko, and I will NEVER want to replace her. Where she goes, I go. She, quite literally, saved my hair. See, I had pink hair. Yes. Pink. No not pink~~... it was PINK!! Bleached and dyed for over 6 months back to back! I was new to NY, and I stumbled across her number. I thought to myself, "hm.. my hair needs as much help as I could possibly get!! What do I have to loose, before I loose my hair to damage??" I gave her a try. I reached out to her, she was very quick to reply and we quickly began talking about my hair. Sent her some pictures of my thick bob... bleached, hot mess, birds nest, dry, and damaged hair... she was very honest, and willing to try and tame the pink nest. Got to my appointment, and her eyes lit up at the sight of this doo... I'm telling you, I was in need of some serious help. I told her to do her magic. Deep conditioning, big chop, blow dry..... Wow! My hair!!! :) I COULDNT BELIEVE IT! I could run my fingers through it again without scratching off the first layer of skin off my hands! I was so happy. She did it. Her magic. I would come back, when I'm not slaving away at work, and school, and socializing, every month for a deep conditioning and trim. I even get head massages during the hair washing, aaaand in the salon chair. :) She does a really deep shoulder massage, and it help me so much. I work so hard, and she really helps me wind down. Due to covid circumstances, I had to get cut somewhere else, but I came back to Redge because Nori's the only person I trust with my haircuts! He's amazing and he always always steers me the right direction and makes my hair not only look, but feel beautiful! I always walk out feeling beautiful! I wanted a bob with a partial perm, and after an examination of my hair, she advised me not to get a perm as it would be too damaging.
