I didn't catch the stylist's name, but she truly saved the day. She and another stylist tried everything to detangle, and when it became too painful, I told them to just go ahead for a shorter cut. I paid almost $400 to get a haircut and dye my hair. I asked for jet black with blue tints. Normally when I go to a salon they dye my entire hair but she told me that it would be better to just touch up my roots since the rest of my hair was pretty dark. I agreed and let her color only the top part. I left the salon feeling satisfied by the color because it seemed to be dark. Fast forward to several days after when I finally washed I saw that my hair was in-fact not dyed jet black, but dyed a dark brown. Now I have to find a different salon to correct this huge mistake... My husband and I have been Nona's loyal customers for 3 years as of today! We always try other (cheaper) places in between when we can't make the trek to Midtown but we always regret it. We compare our hair to Nona's hair artistry all the time. She is so sweet and she is good at what she does. She is going to fix my hair in a few weeks because I cheated on her and got it done elsewhere (biggest regret ever). Lesson learned: never stray from Nona! She is currently perming my husband's hair as I type this. He is getting a control perm for vertical volume because his hair falls flat on top. I've been in need of a haircut since COVID started and have been putting it off till now. Thankfully, Hair OSH was there to help squeeze me into an appointment day of. I had an appointment at 10:15 on a Saturday morning and when I arrived the salon was fairly empty therefore I was taken to get my hair washed and cut right away. My stylist was Ace and he was great. He was very meticulous with his work. The only complaint I have about my experience as that the wash felt slightly rushed but apart from that I had a solid experience and result. Flying into NY for my best friend's wedding as a groomsmen and got recommended to visit Alex for a haircut. I was planning to get a cut with down perm only but Alex explained in very detail about his suggestion to get a full perm while he wasn't pushy at all, left the decision completely to me. Decided to give it a try and it's actually quite different from the perm I usually get. I won't pretend I remember all the technical terms and explanations from Alex but it was a two step perm using two types of irons, and the result is very satisfying. He also gave me tips how to style it with easy steps. First off this place is so CLEAN. If you are worried about catching covid, they do so much here to keep everyone safe. You walk in and get your temperature taken and then they comfortably tape your mask to your face and put a face shield on. Everything is cleaned before and after you visit. I loved the perm I got last year at Hair OSH, so I returned last week to refresh my hair. I paid $500 (plus tips) for a haircut and a straightening/digital perm combo, but I was not pleased with the results this time around. My hair looked fine leaving the salon since it was styled, but a few days later, I was shocked when I washed and air-dried my hair. The hair was extremely dry, frizzy, and some pieces of my hair were over-processed (hair texture totally changed). The digital perm no longer looked good because the hair was so damaged. The rods also left permanent imprints in my hair. I understand that I asked for a perm and that's what I got, but I think it's also the hairdresser's responsibility to assess the client's hair health and advise against any chemical treatments if the hair isn't strong enough. I would not have proceeded had I known what the perm would do to my hair. I get perms to minimize the time I spend on my hair, but after this one, I have to spend more time in the mornings to make my hair look presentable. read more

Don't go here for a perm. The price is premium but the result is less than subpar, often requiring you to go for a fix visit. Either your hair is burnt or you wash your hair the next day and it's straight. Not to mention, even when you make an appointment, you wait from minimum 10 to 30 min, often closer to the 30 minute ball park. So if they messed up the perm and you go for a fix, be ready for another good 20-30 minutes of waiting. Also, after the perm, they will not dry your hair and therefore you as a customer can't tell what the perm looks like when its completely dried until you go back home and wash the next day. They also require you to pay Amex or venmo(cash), but the funny thing is that I know they don't pay tax when they receive venmo payment but they still add tax to YOUR bill, which is actually illegal. I did not report to the NY consumer department, but contemplating. read more

I made an appointment with Alex and I am glad I did. I was a few minutes early but he was ready for me. Alex asked me how I wanted my hair styled and I showed him a picture. He knew right away what I wanted and advised me how my hair would look best with some minor changes. He was right away hard at work cutting my hair using sparingly the blade but with scissors. He painstakingly cut my hair with precision. I can tell he already had in mind the finished picture of my hair. This was a very good sign. This salon is amazing! I stopped by one morning on an impulse decision to get a Japanese hair straightening treatment. I was originally heading to Aate Beauty next door but they were closed, leading me to Hair OSH, a few doors down. I had no appointment yet they were still able to accommodate me without an issue. That was definitely a huge plus. I've gotten a straightening treatment only once before in 8th grade. It took 5 hours since I have really thick hair. When I went to HairOSH, Lily took care of me and my treatment took, I kid you not, TWO hours!! I don't know what kinda voodoo magic Lily and the team at HairOSH do, but at the end my hair was so soft, silky, and straight! Pro: - staff is friendly and helpful - good location - chic and nice interior Con: - it's pricey - i feel like they didn't wash my hair thoroughly enough. - the hair perm didn't turn out at all how i wanted. I paid about 250 for a normal perm and a day after my hair was basicall straight again just way more damaged from the chemicals and shorter...the hair stylist kept insisting that that was the best he could do because my hair was so damaged etc. but it sounded like excuses after he realized that it didn't turn out well. I would have appreciated if he had told me that the curls would not stay. Only thing he mentioned was that the curls would be frizzy. Welp could have saved me from wasting USD 250. read more

Clean, chic, and expert hair salon - look no further if you want a digital perm or haircut especially for Asian hair! Service: My digital perm and hair cut experience from beginning to end here was fantastic. My senior stylist (and one of the directors!) was Andrew and his junior stylist was Evan. Andrew was patient and looked through all photos I had collected for what look I wanted and how tight my curls are. He made expert suggestions based on the photos (recommended a hair cut for layers which he included inside the digital perm price), and really listened to what I liked. Both Andrew and Evan were extremely attentive and meticulous during each stage of the process. I was particularly impressed by the small details (sanitary one-time use ear covers and one-time use eye/face shields to protect you from the chemicals used to digitally perm your hair) which my friend actually did not get during her own perm elsewhere. The digital perm process itself took about 3 hours during which they never rushed, nor did I feel forgotten as they continually checked in with me and refilled my tea throughout the time. It's about four stages: 1) haircut, 2) soaking your hair in a solution (this stage's solution smelled extremely strong but you're only in this stage for about 30 min) and washing it off then blow drying, 3) placing hair in electric curlers and plugging you in so that you look like a human robot, letting it sit for about 30 min, then unplugging and letting the curlers cool for another 15ish min. Your hair will come out in Extremely curly and tight ringlets - don't be alarmed these shirley temple/ llama curls are not your ultimate look. 4) brushing another solution onto your hair, let it sit for 20-30min, then wash it off, and blow dry and you'll see your curls! Aftercare, they advised to not wash your hair or get it wet for at least a few days so that the curls set. They also teach you how exactly to blow dry these curls and other hair care tips before you leave. The perm should last anywhere from a couple months to more than half year based on how tight your curls are and how your hair texture is :) Price: $423 including tax and tip (base price $350 for my longggg hair) - very reasonable considering my hair length, the included haircut, the expertise and the meticulous execution which resulted in a hairstyle that I have always wanted and looked exactly like what I envisioned- wow! (Make sure to get a quote at the beginning of the visit when he looks your hair and your pictures over, so you don't get sticker shock!) Place: beautifully renovated with cool rustic, woodsy but industrial vibe inside. Bathrooms very clean. Whole place very clean. Overall, will definitely be coming back to them next time for a haircut/trim and my next digital perm. A friend raved about this place, so I called to ask about their services. Jenny was very nice and helpful on the phone. She told me the prices upfront (FYI - they don't charge extra for long hair). I booked an appointment with Andrew, the director. The place itself is chic and cozy - loved the warm, open brick interior. The staff was all super professional and friendly. Andrew, especially, was extremely attentive to every single customer in there. He sat with me and made sure we were on the same page about what I wanted. His attention to detail is worthy of praise, I tell you! Since I was going from belly button length to collarbone, I was nervous. But he made me feel at ease, something told me I could trust him. And man, did he deliver! I'm in love with my new hair. I lost my earring, and the whole staff was looking for it. Like, they started going through the hair in the trash. I kept telling em to forget it, it was cheap! We didn't find it, but they insisted that I leave my info incase they do. They are too nice T - T FYI, I am Korean. I'm not sure about going back here. I recently moved to the city so I needed to find a new place to do my hair. Based on all the good reviews here, I thought this was the one. I was thrilled to try but I wanted to check them out first before I do make big changes. So I went to the salon with a Groupon for Brazilian Keratin Treatment. There was a dedicated person for Groupon Voucher so you cannot choose the stylist. I had Jason who called himself as a "shampoo fairy". He seemed very confident and gave me all his attention so I was a happy customer right after the treatment. HOWEVER, the result was not only frustrating but very disappointing. He told me it'll last 2-3months, but IT ONLY LAST 3 DAYS! I carefully followed his instruction such as, using sodium free shampoo with cool water, washing my hair after 2 days... but after a first wash, that clearly did not help loosing straightness or softness of my hair. I spent $109 for Groupon, $50 for longer length, 20% for the tip. They also charged me an extra fee for using credit card. Spending almost $200 for a 3-days-of-straight-hair, I feel ripped off and my hair look worse than before Salon Osh as you can see on my pics here. :( read more
