Lazy and uncaring front desk staff. I'm disabled and walk slowly with a cane. My appointment was at 4:20 PM and I arrived at 4:34 PM. The front desk girl took all her time checking me in. Then after it turned 4:35 PM, she said, "Oh you're 15 minutes late. So we can't see you today and charge you $75 for no-show." I paid $75 and left. read more

We took our one year old to Redmond Eye Clinic because we saw the good reviews, but we were pretty disappointed as we did not feel they were particularly prepared to work with young children. We had to go in twice this year - once to get an initial diagnosis and then several months later to confirm it. During the first visit, we ended up having to wait a long time and our baby did not particularly enjoy the experience, but we choked it up to a one-time bad experience and our baby's impatience. The second time, we had to wait almost an hour for the doctor (we were 10 minutes early, so I suppose only 50 minutes past the start of the appointment). We saw several different support staff in the meantime none of which showed any understanding of children (does he know his letters at 1? will he pay attention to my finger when there's more fun stuff around?). They also did not have any toys or books to keep him occupied while we waited while other places that see kids usually have tons. The only person we felt like had any inkling about children was the doctor herself, but after waiting for so long and having all this other staff talk to us, we had a hard time trusting her as well and have chosen to go some place else in the future. Then there's the matter of billing. They are very certain they told us ahead of time that the second visit would not be covered by insurance and somehow the fact that my kid's father (a.k.a. my husband) made the second appointment is to blame for us not knowing that it would be the case. He does not recall this and it seems like a $225 charge would be something he would remember. It was also not in any of the correspondence they sent us. The appointment we had was at the beginning of December, so we would have likely opted to wait for January if we had known, so that insurance would cover it. We did, however, get dozens (at least once monthly, often several times) reminders that we can purchase glasses from them! And we should use our FSA funds on glasses from them before they expire! And let's not forget, that they can sell glasses for kids and adults! Oh, and before going for the appointment, we should choose which glasses to buy! Did I mention they sell glasses? read more

I found Redmond Eye Clinic after I had a bit of an unfortunate event with a pair of tweezers. Immediately, the staff were all warm and welcoming and Dr. Skyles has been amazing through and through. We were just late for 13 minutes and they told us we need to reschedule the appointment or wait at the lobby forever without given any ETA. There was an accident. Last time we had to wait at least 20 minutes when I made my eye glasses, which isn't helpful at all. It didn't improve any of my vision and I am just using my old one from Costco. They just told me to get used to it! We won't go back to this place. To reply, Yes we did pick up the phone and told them we just parked. Once arrived, the receptionist told us to reschedule it. To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed. From start to end I was examed by a student doctor, the actual doctor only came in for a few questions I have and refuse to quickly check my dryness because they said it requires for additional appointment that my insurance doesn't cover. I had very different experience in my previous eye clinic, they doctor throughly checked all my test results and found potential issue timely. I'm much worried that some potential issue could not be found by a student doctor especially for patient like me who cares about eye check very much. I wish I could be treated more seriously. Thanks for your reply, may I ask when the doctor checked my test results? As I was told the doctor was busy with other patients and came in just answer my questions without taking a look at any of the test results. I was not asking for a proper dryness exam, I wanted the doctor to check my dryness level really quick and evaluate if I need to schedule a dryness appointment separately based on his observation rather than my own personal feeling. read more

Redmond Eye Clinic is an interesting experience. This isn't the usual place where I go to get my eyes checked, but that may change in the future. I was actually kind of told to come here on relatively short notice, but it wasn't a big deal. The receptionists were friendly and helpful in guiding me through all the usual introductory paperwork. They had me read through lots of the Snellen eye charts. Having my eyes dilated was relatively painless, and I could still move around afterward. Dr. Vernon came in, shook my hand, and had quite a sense of humor. He told his (very attractive) assistant not to give me contact lenses due to my inability to suppress the blinking reflex, and also commented on my use of an oxymoron when I mentioned that my vision through one set of lenses was "negligibly better" than through another pair. For the most part, Dr. Vernon was professional and efficient at his job. I appreciated his understanding and acknowledging my sensitivity to light, and he was able to prescribe for me a pair of lenses that corrected my vision significantly better than my glasses are able to. Finally, he allowed me the chance to ask questions and told me that he doesn't see LHI patients again, but that may change if these people keep up the good work. read more

My experience with doctors generally is mixed where I meet the doctor for 10-15 minutes and then I am shunted out of the room. This experience was however totally different. I went in with some sudden eye issues which made me very anxious and every place I called told me the earliest they could see me was next week. When I called the Redmond eye clinic, the receptionist Katie was very helpful and got me in the very next day (she offered to get me in the same day but I would have not been able to make it). When I went to the clinic, I was really impressed with how efficiently the initial eye tests were done (I haven't done an eye test in years so I was pretty nervous). After the initial tests, Dr. Kim Skyles took close to 30 minutes to explain the results to me and run additional tests and allay any fears I had. She also pointed out some concerns with my eyes and how I should come in for tests a few months down to the line to just ensure the situation did not get worse. What was supposed to be a one-time only appointment for the military turned into multi-thousand dollar one and half year long lab study. My initial appointment went great and was solely scheduled through the military for an annual exam. The doctor had noticed I was suffering from dry eyes and asked if I could come back. Little did I know that I would be having to check in for a visit EVERY SINGLE MONTH thereafter for the next year and half, testing and trying out TOO MANY different dry eye solutions and treatments. It had gotten to the point where the doctor even asked if she could use these test results for her own study. At first I thought nothing of it but after a while I started feeling more like a lab rat than a patient. When things weren't improving, she then proceeded to implant a thick, large, amniotic membrane lense into one of my eyes for a week. Although it did help heal one of my dry eyes to an extent, it was the most EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL experiences in my entire life! On top of the CONSTANT pain it caused, I was practically half blind the entire time and even had to risk driving home blind on my own the same day and for the rest of the week! Not only that, but she hadn't even consulted me properly about the costs and my options to even proceed with the treatment - only to find out a few weeks later when I recieved a bill for $2,000+ for the procedure!! Do you really think a struggling college student could even afford such treatment let alone continuous monthly check up appointments?? By that point it was safe to say that these guys placed profit over their patients, without even considering to make valuable judgment calls throughout their practice. I have not been back since then and refuse to ever go back. *Note: It's been about two years since I've been with them but hopefully they've made necessary changes and improvements since then. read more

I have nothing but the greatest things to say about Dr. Binstock, and the staff! I've been under their care for about 4 months now. I have had every phone call or message answered promptly and kindly, and most importantly with compassion. The doctor is very honest with me about all options to treat my corneal erosion, spends as much time as I need to have my questions answered, and gave me more options when my problem persisted (simply the nature of my eye injury, unfortunately). He started with presenting me with all options, then listed them starting with least invasive, as well as considering cost. I never felt pushed, or like I was a bottom line in their books. I must say, I'm not a very good patient. I go to the doctor when I need something or something is wrong. So, when I needed to make annual appointments, according to the Clinic, I wasn't so good about listening. And, without vision insurance, I really only went when it was absolutely necessary. So, when two years go by, front desk changes hands and new doctors arrive, you just don't expect people to remember you. But, every time I come to Redmond Eye Clinic, Dr. Otten not only remembers my name, but asks how my kids are doing, remembered stories of places I have traveled, where I live etc... And, the rest of the staff was just the same. When I got my new glasses fitted, again, Donn remembered my name and said, "Hello Erika," when I walked in the door. I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Vernon last week and he was wonderful. He asked me what level of help I wanted with fixing my severe dry eye situation, didn't tell me what to do but asked how I wanted to treat it. There are times you go to a doctor appointment and it's an experience like buying a car. They just keep adding on and adding on without giving you the bottom line, as if sky's the limit with budget. Well, when you don't have vision insurance, you have to ask about everything. I did with Dr. Vernon and he was so accommodating, understood my situation and did exactly what I asked, without question or pressure to do more. And, I did really feel he wanted to help me, not because he was supposed to. If you want a really personal experience with your vision care, don't want to feel like another chart and have a place that you will return to for years, Redmond Eye Clinic is the place to go! I went in for an annual eye exam and was seen by Dr. Kim . She was very patient and friendly and answered all my questions without rushing . She explained my scans in detail and I got to know so much about my eyes . So the medical eye exam is only checking the health of your eyes and if you need a new prescription and does not include any other screenings. I did have to pay out of pocket for the basic screening as a VSP insurance do not cover these . But I highly recommend anyone going for a check up to get the retinal screening because it would detect most of the eye diseases early and it is only 40$ . I'm glad I chose Redmond eye clinic and I even got another appointment for my husband as well . read more

After I started to have flashes and floaters in my eye, I called my own eye doctor and multiple other clinics to see if someone can see me right away. I happened to be visiting family in Redmond from out of state when I had problems with my contacts. I wear night and day ones that I don't take off for a month at a time, and I hardly ever have problems with them... Finally after cleaning the annoying one and not noticing improvement, I sought after an eye doctor near by to get some free samples, so I found the Redmond Eye Clinic. Dr Vernon was AMAZING! The eye exam went great, he got me reading those tiny tiny letters fast and beautifully. Turns out I like him way more than my old doctor here locally, he's so personable, unlike my current doc. I got sample contact lenses and I ended up getting some stylish OGI prescription glasses. Can't wait for them to come in the mail! I was helped by his wife, who's as stunning and nice and learned that Dr Vernon recently bought the practice. She's been coming in to learn the office management side of the practice. I LOVE owner operated businesses! No wonder they are so friendly and passionate about vision! PS. I was hesitant to make an appointment at REC only because I'd been a patient of Drs Otten and Vernon for so long and I dislike change. I knew I needed to have my eyes checked because it had been nearly 3 years. I just happened to be in the area Wednesday so I stopped in to make an appointment. It just so happened they had an opening that day so I took it. I was so impressed with all the newer technology and Dr. Skyles' explanations of every test. Everyone, from the front desk ladies to the doctors were friendly, knowledgeable and made me feel welcome. This place came recommended by my coworkers, but I had a very unpleasant experience at Redmond Eye Clinic last Thursday. I have never needed corrective lenses before and this was my first time at the optometrist. Upon arriving I was asked to fill out forms with little explanation. I told the receptionist this was my first experience at an optometrist. She barely looked up. Then, I was sat down in a chair and run through a series of tests. Again, no explanation about what they were doing, what was coming next, or regard for my discomfort. I saw the doctor for about 5-10 minutes, again, I said this was my first experience. He acknowledge me slightly more, but still gave me no information about my prescription, was unhelpful when deciding if I should be fitted for contacts, and almost ripped the small stud in my nose clean out as he pulled the machine away from my face. I was then shuttled to another man who kind of helped me look at frames frames but offered no suggestions for what would look best on my face shape. I was so confused at this point there was no way I was buying frames. At least he had the foresight to ask me about my dilated pupils. Until this point nobody even told me they had dilated my pupils!!! He asked if I had sunglasses, I said yes, he said have a safe drive and left. My drive home was miserable and dangerous given it was an unusually sunny afternoon. My sunglasses were not near dark enough, my vision was blurry, and I quickly became nauseous. I had a long drive home (20 miles), since this place was close to work, during rush hour. It was awful. If you are new to this process, please do not try Redmond Eye Clinic. They did not take the time to explain the process, or my actual prescription. I will never return to this place and have since found many other fantastic optometrists while shopping for frames this weekend. read more

Not a fan. Loved the doctor before who recently retired. Love the older gentlemen who helps pick out frames and adjusts frames--he is professional. The new eye doctor is kind, but into pushing product. I told him I hardly wear contacts and he kept pushing buying a year supply of contacts--that was frustrating. More frustrating, was finding out after my appointment that I was charged $60 for contact measurements! I felt swindled :( read more

My kids (infant and toddler) were both due for eye exams and I kept seeing reviews for places where it took a long time to get an appointment, and once you checked in you had to wait a long time to see the doctor. Obviously, with small kids, getting in and out in a timely manner is critical. Dr. Skyles was able to get both kids in for appointments in a very timely manner. They let me fill out all the paperwork a few days ahead of time, so I had my hands free to handle the kids in the waiting room, and once we were in for the exams, everything went quickly and smoothly. I ended up coming here for my last eye exam (I liked my old eye doctor well enough, but the location was no longer as convenient.) They also had a good selection of glasses I liked, the guy who helped with finding and fitting glasses was very helpful, and the purchase of a new pair of glasses went very smoothly. Instead of just saying they won't take any new patients they instead want to grill me for personal information on my dad's Healthcare insurance when it isn't even him I'm trying to make an appointment for. It's my mother and she has her own Medicare coverage but they insist on getting his Ssn which is a total privacy violation. Do not use this optometrist...
