I came to Red's Donut Shop after hearing for years how amazing it supposedly is. I genuinely wanted to like it. Instead, it ended up being one of the more disappointing bakery experiences I've had. We walked in to a display case that was almost empty and a line that felt more like a suggestion than anything organized. After waiting longer than expected, I ordered a French cake donut--what I received was surprisingly small, closer to a sample than something you'd expect to pay for. The service, though, was the real standout--and not in a good way. The employee helping us seemed clearly annoyed from the start. Basic, reasonable requests were met with visible irritation, and the overall attitude made it feel like we were inconveniencing them just by being there. That kind of interaction sticks with you more than the food does. What really added to the confusion was noticing trays of fresh, better-looking donuts behind the counter as we were leaving--none of which were available or mentioned while ordering. Yes, the prices are lower than other places, but the portions reflect that, and the service makes it hard to justify even a quick stop. I can understand people having fond memories of this place, but based on this visit, it doesn't hold up. read more

The donut shop is located on a corner and is pretty easy to find. The parking lot is a bit tight with traffic coming in from both sides. There are many spaces adjacent to the building and a handicapped space right by the door. Walking in, the main display case is to the right. There is not much room from the door so this area can get very crowded. We were in the third row as we entered and had to maneuver around a couple people to get all the way in. The workers also call out when they are free so you may need to work your way to the front to see the display case as others are being waited on. Since we were travelling, we decided to only get a half dozen. We made our selections and were back in the vehicle in no more than five minutes. They are very efficient in moving people through. The donuts are very uniform in size between the regular glazed and filled. The flavor is good and the texture is on the lighter side with good integrity. They do not fall apart as you eat. The fillings are typical flavors and could be filled a bit more than what we received. The bavarian cream was filled with vanilla pudding which was a bit disappointing. Still, the donuts are good and are sold at a good price. The place can get really busy but the workers know how to move you through quickly. Red's is certainly a good donut option. read more

The donuts have been reduced in size to being ,I would guess, about 1/2 of what they used to be. I understand rising costs but really??? We stopped here after spending the night in Paducah. I sent my husband in to get a few donuts. He came out with a dozen. Suffice to say, he made the right call. The donuts are super cheap and the quality is SUPERB. We sampled the chocolate-covered cake donut, coconut donut, and glazed ones. Honestly, I wouldn't have bothered with anything other than the glazed. They taste like Krispy Kreme at its best -- light, airy, crunchy, perfect all around -- except with a more homemade quality to them. I could have eaten half a dozen glazed ones in one sitting. If you are ever in the area, definitely make a point to visit Red's Donut Shop, and do yourself a favor and get an extra glazed. read more

Was driving by the donut shop and decided to stop in. Place doesn't look like much on the outside, or the inside for that matter. But don't be fooled. These donuts rock. I was very impressed that a small place like this would have three people servicing the counter and there were at least two bakers making the donuts...by hand! No machine here. The guys at the counter were swift and friendly. We bought a half dozen, and the cake donuts were unlike any I've ever had before. Most cake donuts are heavy, these were so light, and delicious. I don't think you could go wrong ordering any of them, but eat at least two for every one you would normally. I liked that they had a rack with orders that were pulled in advance for call-in orders. The fact that two churches had orders ready to go was neat. Probably regular customers if you ask me. Go. Grab a few and enjoy. I will definitely stop again if passing through Paducah. read more

We stopped at Red's around 5:45 in the afternoon on Tuesday, not allot left but we wanted to try their donuts. I'm not a big fan of cake donuts but that late in the day you're going to get leftovers. I bought two chocolate frosted cake donuts, one yeast chocolate with Heath pieces, a cinnamon apple filled and two cream filled. We were blown away by how great all the donuts tasted, all of them were great. That said we had to go back this morning a get a dozen assorted donuts and donut holes. Three chocolate frosted, three caramel frosted, three chocolate with Heath and three cream filled. Every one of them were fresh and great tasting! We will definitely be back each time where in Paducah! A dozen assorted donuts, 12 donut holes and two milks all for under $10. This is a must if you're traveling thru Paducah, KY!
