I was pleased with my service by Nee, which was a gel polished pedicure. Nee was very attentive and kind. I was greeted in an unwelcoming manner by the male there but there was one other nail technician there who also had great customer service skills. I do not visit many nail spas often but I would most definitely go back to Redwood Nail Spa and recommend others to check it out. The bathroom was very clean and had hand sanitizer instead of soap, which is better than nothing. I like that the nail stations were not too close together. The spa is spacious and comfortable. Went there yesterday for a mani pedi. Pedi turned out great-5 stars. Manicure was done at the same time. 2 stars is for the gel manicure. The gentleman doing was rough and impatient. He scraped the old gel off my nails so roughly that I could feel pain under my nails while he was doing it. You can see thru the new gel color on my nails at the base. Usually they put 3 coats on for a better red color, he did 2. Then he said "ok you're done." Um no!!! You smeared polish all over my skin and left it. He tried to fix it by taking a file and filing down my skin, which hurt! Told him it's good and I got out of there after 1 hr, 15 minutes! I've been here 3 times before yesterday and received excellent gel manicures. This guy is horrible. My coworker went there a few days ago and also had a bad experience with him. read more

Went here over a month ago with a friend to get acrylics. While it did take awhile for both of us to get our nails done by the same person, it was well worth the wait. I have had my acrylics for over a month without any chipping or snapping off until yesterday, this set has lasted TWICE as long as any acrylics I have gotten in my home town for the same price. Many people may consider $45 a lot to spend on acrylic nails but with this place, you get what you pay for. I will definitely be coming back here when I can and recommend this salon to anyone who values quality over low prices. After a sudden urge to get my nails fixed up, I spent about an hour, driving around Humboldt County trying to find someone who could give me a quick gel manicure. The first salon I went to, the manicurist had gone home early. The second had no time to get me in, and the third was much too expensive. That's when I finally ran across Redwood Nail Spa. After giving them a call, I was pleased to hear that their price for a gel mani was reasonable, and that I could come in that day. Being that Mother's Day and Graduation are upon us, it had been difficult to get in anywhere. When I arrived, I was greeted warmly. Their selection for gel nail colors was impressive; I actually had a hard time choosing which color I wanted because there were so many pretty options. When a manicurist became available, which was not long after I arrived, I was treated to a comfortable chair and the manicure process began. The only reason I would give this nail spa four stars (while I would rather give it a 4.5) is because the manicurist I received was the only one answering the phone, marking down appointments, and taking payments. While she was apologetic and warm, it was a little bothersome that I was always the client who was made to wait. While I understand that typically nail salons do not have a receptionist, I think it would have been more fair if more nail artists were involved in these duties. Also, after completing my manicure, my nail artist switched with another woman (who was very sweet) for the arm massage portion of the service. This appeared to be because there was another guest waiting for, perhaps an appointment? I did not understand the circumstance as to why I was passed along, but when I went to pay for the manicure, my nail artist was again, the one to take payment, leaving her new client behind. While I am confused with the aspect of how they deal with customers, I would certainly go back to Redwood Nail Spa. They are a very clean establishment with a wonderful selection of gel nail polishes, and I did receive a wonderful manicure. The prices are fair and they have to be what looks like, a really relaxing area for pedicures, which I might go back for in the near future to test out. read more

I almost never leave bad reviews but feel compelled to do so because of my horrid experience. I came here because of all the good reviews. I wanted a full set, French manicure with pink and black. They only had ONE person working who could do acrylics. He was busy and told me to come back. Ok, no problem. Came back, told him what I wanted and he ARGUED with me! Flat out refused to do black tips but said I could do an accent nail and pulled out all the colors. He really didn't want to do black tip so I picked blue for an accent nail (keep in mind I did not want white tips. At all. Ever) he made fun of my decision for blue! I finally said just do black then. And he asked me if I was sure about ten times before actually doing it. He asked how short I wanted my nails. I said super super short. He argued with me on the length! Insisted I could not get them as short as I wanted. Funny, I have been getting my nails done for ten years and had never heard that. To put the icing on the cake: I left with ten very crooked nails that I had to try to fix on my own. I've been getting my nails done for ten years and this is by far the worst experience at a nail salon I have ever had. I will not be back and will deter my friends from coming here simply by showing them my crooked nails. read more

I think I just had the best pedicure I've ever had and that's saying something! I got the long version because I really needed callous and cuticle work done and figured the extra softening time would be needed. I was hoping they wouldn't do a rush job. It took an hour and 45 min from start to finish (which was just fine with me today!) including the initial soak, scrubs, trimming, sanding, paraffin wrap, Polish, dry, and I probably forgot a few steps. She was very thorough and incredibly sweet and gracious. Nice job! I will be back. read more

I went here a few times for gel pedicures. They refuse to soak your gel off and instead they use a little grinder which literally removes a layer of your nail. Even if you request that they soak the nail polish off instead, they will ignore you. They will apply the acetone soak for about 1 minute, then they just go ahead and do what I ask them not to do. After a few visits here, my nails got thin and started to break! They had the gall to tell me that I needed to start taking supplements because of my "unhealthy" nails, when in fact the problem was caused by them! Soon after my last pedicure there I even developed an ingrown toenail, which I have never had in the past! I have started giving myself pedicures or going somewhere where they actually know how to do a proper gel pedicure and since then the problem has resolved. The only reason I went more than once is because the foot and leg massage is good and long. I would never set foot in that place again! The staff was so rude about my "unhealthy" nails and they would not respect my request to have my gel polish soaked off! In addition it is one of the most expensive places I have ever been... they even charge $5 extra for your gel polish to be removed (which will only damage your nails). I don't get my nails very often, and when I have I always feel uncomfortable and awkward the entire time. Not this time! Despite being pretty busy, everyone there was very attentive and personable. Vi did my manicure and she was very sweet and smiley. They massage your hands and arms and don't just rush through it but really work it. It felt amazing. Nice and open, nicely decorated with an earthy Asian feel. And the price was right ... 15 bucks for basic mani feels like a steal. Definitely going back. read more

I originally came to this nail salon because a friend recommended their pedicures. Which they do very well. I have had the service and left more than satisfied several times. Unfortunately, the male manicurist, Max who performs the acrylic nail application is the complete polar opposite to the other three very kind and familial employees. Max is an extremely rude person. His station and tools are filthy and his hands were hot and grimy. I am fully trained in cosmetology and didn't just fall off the turnip truck when it comes to acrylic nails. He sure treated me like I was uneducated and an unwelcome customer. Which in retrospect is partly true. He didn't want my business and I was unwelcome. If he wasn't chastising verbally with a fierce glare he was shaking his head in complete disapproval for any movement however slight. He is far from graceful or even remotely kind. When he started burning me on purpose with the electric file that was the last straw. Max purposefully did not rotate the file around the nail bed. He kept it in one spot continually and with great pressure. When I pulled away and said please do not do that it burns he did absolutely nothing to do it properly and unapologetically set back to task in the same exact spot harming me until I recoiled in pain again. It was the worst anyone has ever treated me in a salon. I have been to salons around the world over the last 30 years and this treatment by far was the most appalling. He looked as though he was awakened from a nap in the back when I got there and it all went downhill from there and fast. He made misogynistic remarks and also with an affected tone threatened to cut off my fingers if I didn't stay still for him. After declaring that he would never touch me again, I left and went to a true professional to help me finish the job. She said that Max was supposed to be some "wonder boy from LA" and that he owns the place. Well I am sure if that is true Los Angeles must be happy to be rid of him!! THIS IS NOT A SPA!
