We attended a wedding this past weekend here and it is a very nice setting. What truly impressed me was the gentleman who apparently was the site assistant for the wedding. He kept everything on track and was always smiling and very pleasant. The bartenders were efficient. The food servers did a fine job with our meal and all it entailed. I would suggest that the venue invest in a few outdoor space heaters. It got very cold in the evening and some well placed outdoor heaters could have helped. The fire pits just weren't enough. This place is trash. Absolute trash. All it's really good for is a nice view of the bay. The food is HIGHLY mediocre. The same type of bland, whack cuisine that would be served at a Holiday Inn continental breakfast buffet. And then they pretty much up charge all that just because they have some fancy halls and a picturesque view. The servers were all extremely rude too. We held an event here for family and they were super unhelpful and gave off attitude when asked for things. Honestly wouldn't come back here. The Reef is a beautiful Venue and the food is pretty good but I've had really bad experience with the event staff and attending their brunch. First Issue with Event Staff: I visited the restaurant in late August to book a Surprise birthday party for my mom for the end of September. I explained that the room HAD TO BE HANDICAP accessible. There was one room available which I was able to see from photos since it was being painted. Everything looked good including the menu but I advised I was not comfortable booking until I saw the room. I was told to comeback Friday. When I came back Friday the room was booked to someone else which was soooooo unprofessional. They didn't even give me the courtesy of returning Friday to see if I still wanted it. The event manager proceeded to show me another room..which was upstairs and NOT Handicap Accessible. Then showed me a loud OUTDOOR rooftop as if that would be acceptable for a 60 year old's birthday party. I was offered no alternative dates. They didn't call the other party to see if they were willing to swap rooms. Nothing. All I got was a "oh I'm sorry". I was unable to throw a party for my mom which was super important to me. To make matters worse I sent 2 emails to the restaurant regarding my experience and NEVER received a response. 2nd Issue: Even though I told myself I would NEVER support their business again. For my birthday weekend I wanted to enjoy a nice peaceful Sunday brunch with a nice view. So I gave the Reef another shot. It took 1 hour for my omelette and shrimp to come from the kitchen. My server only came to the table 2x in like 2 hours. Nobody came to clear ANY of the plates that I was done with. Empty plates were piling and flies were swarming and still nobody came over. I had to seek out the manager..who comped my meal but that didn't make up for the horrible experience. Never would of thought that this restaurant would have ruined mine and my moms birthday within a few months. I really used to love this place. Now it sucks that I wont be patronizing them ever again due to horrible service across the board. read more

I was supposed to have my wedding reception here but it got canceled due to covid. My fiancé and I were told by Jaime that we were approved for a refund, and that our check would arrive within 30 days. Its been 3 months and we still havent received anything. I called and spoke to Nicole 3 weeks ago and was told once again that we were approved and would receive the check within 2 weeks. That check must have gotten lost in the mail because it still hasn't arrived. We are done playing games with the Reef!! I would think twice before booking an event here! This is a review for a wedding event. I was the wedding coordinator/ planner (Mellie Bee Events) hired by my clients for their wedding on 1/25/2019. The wedding took place in their grand ballroom off to the left of the venue away from the reef's main restaurant. The view of the harbor from the ballroom was very pretty. The ballroom has their own build in dance floor, however it is kind of dated. My client did rent her own all white seamless dance floor and it definitely brightened up the room. Tall centerpieces were necessary to fill the room up, however the venue's standard draping with chandelier helped fill the room too, so not much decor is needed to be brought in. For set-up, the staff were all very helpful and friendly. They assisted us with whatever we needed. I am very glad to have coordinated here, as the view was spectacular. I recently planned and held a Military Masquerade Ball in the Garden Ballroom. Every expectation was met and exceeded! My coworkers and I had such an enjoyable and memorable time. We loved the Garden Ballroom because it provided a separate entrance, foyer, main ballroom with dancefloor, and a patio with views of the seafront. We loved that this space was able to provide us with different rooms so that we could create different environments in each one. The food was amazing and spectacular. I wasn't expecting the food portions to be so large (I couldn't finish my whole plate). Our vegetarians absolutely loved the Pasta Primavera, although they did note it could've used a little less butter. But nonetheless, it was still delicious! The cheesecake for dessert was super rich and creamy, and to just die for. Our coordinator, David, is very knowledgeable and provided me with answers to every question I had. He is very welcoming, which helps to ensure that there is always an open line of communication. I very much appreciated that about him! Overall, I would definitely recommend others to plan an schedule an event here. They are so good that this is the second time that I've held an event here. I absolutely love this place. The staff is so nice and welcoming. The ambiance is wonderful. The restaurant side is also very for a nice romantic dinner. This place is so versatile! read more

Do not book an event here, especially in the Howard Hughes room. I'm not typically someone to leave a bad review, however, for an upscale establishment it was a pretty poor experience in terms of a venue. We recently booked my parents vow renewal reception. For a room they market can hold up to 80 people, one would have thought that having 50 people could have been suitable to keep the room cool enough. Literally, the temperature stayed between 80-82 degrees in the room! We literally had to ask 8 times for a manager or someone to help as guests left early. One of my friends got sick and had to leave due to the heat, one lady actually became disoriented and tripped and fell on her face, giving herself a bloody nose. There were other issues minor to the heat, such as the wrong table cloth colours and no follow up from the restaurant as of a week later to see how our event was. As well, the cake ended up melting. Additionally the day of the event our coordinator had us placed in a side dining room, only to have a lady very rudely try to usher us out. While we all tried to be good sports about the conditions it made for an unpleasant evening, dripping wet from sweat, which was not even from dancing as it was much too uncomfortable to do. The temperature never went below 80. The redeeming qualities is that the food is actually very good, and the servers are pleasant. If you want dinner or brunch, you'll be fine, if you are looking to hold an event, look elsewhere. read more

Let me tell you guys! This is the worse of the worse. They cancel my sisters wedding reception 24 hours before her wedding. I guess the restaurant wasn't following city rules. Im sure they knew before time, but decided to call us just a day before but yet the reception area was already having an event going on. Are you serious?? So you guys knew... Anyways we show up for the ceremony and the coordinator is no where to be found.. just wow! what kind of service is this??? Honestly, Maria was my director and I was a bit disappointed with her service. The day of the wedding was on point and our bartenders, servers and head server Ruben were great! But the director made us feel like we weren't spending enough to get her help. Although she had all my contact information, she EMAILED me to remind me that my husband and I missed our taste testing 45 minutes AFTER the fact. I had been in contact with her that same week and was never reminded. I would have appreciated the email or better yet, phone call 45 minutes BEFORE the food tasting not after when it's too late. Then when we rescheduled, we were tasting our food, I noticed that there were other couples or families, and their Director was sitting with them asking questions and really being involved with their tasting. My husband and I were just sitting there by ourselves and had questions, but Maria never showed up until we were already done, and my questions were almost forgotten, because she never stopped by to sit with us . So when she finally did sit with us, it was like a quick, five minute discussion and that was it. She never sent the links to make payments, I had to remind her and ask if I can have the link because I thought I had a payment due. She restricted us from using or doing things that involved decorations. I couldn't find a reasonable decorator for my centerpieces and sweetheart table, etc. So I had to do it myself, Maria clearly told me that If there wasn't an event the day before (which there wasn't) I can come in to set up. She later changed it to no, I can only come in 2 hours before the wedding to set up. Like really? I'm at the ceremony 2 hours before. Isn't the day of the wedding not suppose to be stressful on the bride?? After so much persistence on my end I was able to let her allow my family to come in early in the morning the day of the wedding to set up. Honestly, there was so much more but I think I felt more stressed with Maria then I was about the actual wedding. There was another lady I saw who directs and just by seeing her interaction with her couples, I can tell she was all in and excited to help! From the moment we drove into the parking lot (self parking is this tiny lot), it was already crazy. Tip: Save yourself the hassle and do valet unless there is a blatant open spot for you in self parking. Lines are like Disneyland at the waffle and omelette station. For someone who dined here for the first time, it's pretty confusing which line you're in line for. Plates are hot! Especially in these long lines, guard your hands. Food quality was mediocre. Taste wise, nothing really stood out. By the time you sit down, your food is already significantly colder. The roast beef was more fat than meat and cold. The pasta was missing something to take it to the next level. The assortment of breakfast food was lackluster. Service: Need more people in the more popular stations. Water/drink refills were covered. Also, it would be nice to have more direction on the different stations. The layout was confusing. This isn't the most intimate place to have a conversation with your loved ones unless it's a different story from the Sunday brunch chaos. The beautiful view of Long Beach was the only redeeming quality here. Price: You're paying for the location. I'd rather pay this much for better food. Not worth it. Came here for a wedding. The ceremony was on an outdoor patio with a nice view but it was a warm day and there was no shade. All of the guests were standing up against the wall where a sliver of shade was. Staff showed up at 4:40PM to start wiping down the dirty chairs and sweeping - just 20 minutes before the ceremony was scheduled to begin. It was bizarre. Worked out for them cause no one was sitting down since it was so hot. The only redeeming factor was a table with water on it. Just wish someone would have wiped down the tablecloth - it was absolutely filthy and had ants crawling all over it. Moved down to another room for the reception only to find another wedding was right outside so all of those guests were wandering through our reception room. The staff just seemed like they wanted to be somewhere else. Not warm or friendly at all. So weird. Obviously this place does a lot of events and only cares about getting bodies in and out the door as quickly as possible. read more

I was here for fellow Yelp Elite Irene Y.'s wedding and it pretty much doesn't get more beautiful than this with the amazing view of the Long Beach Shoreline on a bright, sunny Socal day =) I enjoyed my salmon with the horseradish sauce and def appreciated the piping hot sourdough bread served throughout the meal. The staff also did a good job of keeping things running smoothly during the reception. I'd go into more detail, but I think Irene will do a much better job of taking care of the rest! read more

My wife and I had our wedding reception here in December. They were very accommodating. We found enough food items that we liked. The room was beautiful with a great view of downtown. We even had half of the patio. They gave us one wrong appetizer which they did correct. They didn't follow the floorplan that we agreed to. We had to have all of our guests get up from the tables so we could move the room around. All in all, we all had a great time. read more

The food was pretty decent--I was nervous after reading some Yelp reviews. The only things I would complain about would be the occasional "old wet" smell, the aged decor, and the fact that I get lost every time I drive there (as did my wedding guests!) Some friends wonder why people don't rate a place solely on food, and this is one of those reviews. Food is probably 2 stars, as it's your typical expensive restaurant with very mediocre food that you can buy at a cafeteria, however the view is amazing. I came here for a wedding and the ceremony was at the balcony. Though it was a bit chilly, the view was amazing as it was a clear sky, and there were tons of yachts just lounging there looking as if they're basking in the sunlight. The reception was downstairs, and even still, you can see the amazing view through the windows. What is even more romantic was when the sun was setting, you were still able to see that when you were inside. At night, people were walking out of the reception area to look at the night. Great place to have a wedding, but recommend you hire a chef or an outside catering company. read more

Went yester eve the new manager Faviola is making a difference. The venue was the cleanest that I've ever seen it. Food seasoned up to perfection and server David was perfect attentive but not go intrusive...very veryimpressed with the filet migon and lump crab.. lot of veggies and excellent potatoes and sauce...platted perfect...the culinary skills of this place have come up and the value is almost the best in town. All the staff spoke and had great attitudes you can't ask for more!! That shows excellent training and happy people. read more

Where do I start this place is beautiful, the food is amazing, and customer service is awesome!. I don't have one bad thing to say about the reef. My special day was so magical thanks to the amazing view that the reef offers. The wedding went smooth thanks to the staff. The bride room is gorgeous and spacious I had 4 bridesmaids, my mother, 2 flower girls, photographer, and myself in that room and I was still comfortable. Went for a retirement party held in the private room (for about 65 people) on the bottom floor. It had floor-to-ceiling windows that filled the room with natural light and looked out across the beautiful waterfront. To enter you went down 2 flights of stairs from the lobby. There are no elevators and bathrooms are only located in the lobby. The extra walk around the building back to the front to get to the restrooms was a bit of an inconvenience for those disabled. At least the gardens around the property were picture-worthy with a small bridge and tropical plants. There was a smaller room adjacent to the main room that held the cash bar and the buffet tables. The food was excellent. There was salad, rolls, shrimp pasta, steamed veggies, lemon chicken, baked salmon, and a carved sirloin station. An assortment of cakes and coffee and tea were also available for dessert. Staff came around to refill waters and clear plates. Bartender was efficient and polite. Drinks were pretty pricey, as expected. Nice place for an adult party or brunch by the water. read more

On October 2, 2020 was when my wedding reception was suppose to take place here. We made our deposit on time and even paid in full our balance a month or so before the wedding only for Jamie Schwarcz who happens to be the Director of Events, she tells us the week of our wedding that they might not be opened due to COVID restrictions/guidelines in which she did not mention not once while we were making our payments that they might not be opened. It was such an inconvenience having to call vendors last minute and the week of my wedding at that to try to accommodate for my wedding reception. Luckily the vendors we awesome and we were able to pull it off, but that's besides the point. We paid between $12,000-$12,500 and only got refunded $3,000. What a RIP OFF!!! DO NOT have your event here. I loved the reef and would always go here with my family for brunch, but after this fiasco no more. I didn't even wanna give them a star because they deserve none but I had to put at least one for this review. Again, think twice before you book with them. read more

Just got married here last Saturday, April 28th and we had the absolute best time. The whole process was super easy from start to finish. Jamie was so helpful and not once did she ever seem bothered by all of my questions (I had a lot). She was so sweet the whole time and we were so happy with her customer service. My wife and I attended a wedding reception here Labor Day Weekend. It is a good place to have a reception but there are a few things that make it not that great. The room we were in and a very small foyer that had the buffet, bar, gift table and guests all packed into it. Until the room was ready, it was not opened to guests. There was no place for all of them to wait aside from standing outside in the parking lot and the staff kept bumping into them as they walked in and out of the room to get it ready. We had actually considered this place for our wedding reception last year, but felt this would be a big issue for us. The other reason we did not like the location was due to the color of the walls. They have since been painted white from the awful greenish color of years prior. Once we were inside the room though, everything was great. Since The Reef Restaurant sits on the water of Long Beach Harbor and Queensway Bay, you were captivated with the beautiful views of the Long Beach Skyline. The dance floor is a pretty good size and the spacious arrangement allowed for people to move freely between tables. The food was delicious as expected. We have eaten there many times in the past and have yet to have a terrible meal. If you are looking into a location similar to this one for a wedding reception, then consider The Castaway in Burbank. The pricing for packages is similar as they are part of the Specialty Restaurant Corporation (Orange Hill, The Odyssey, etc.). read more

Each year we hav Ed some minor hiccups but the staff us always ready to find reasonable solutions. Food is usually great and the view and atmosphere is amazing. Waste of time and money!!! bad service and big disappointment.. cold food was served, wrong chairs, the bar always running out of white wine and my guests had to reuse their glasses because there was shortage, no steak knife , we asked the server but still no steak knife were given..there were some chairs and cake toppers were not picked up outside the patio that was used the day before ( its so ugly to see ). Worst of all, the bathroom flooded! My guests and I had to walk all the way to another building just to use the restrooms. I've personally been to this venue 2 other times for weddings. Those two other times were great with food and service. Today, I decided to take my wife and try their Sunday brunch. I had booked a reservation for today's meal. When we arrived, I checked in, and the hostess said it would be a couple minutes as they needed to clear a table. After about 15 minutes, my wife starts asking me what what was the point of a reservation. After several more minutes, I was ready to just leave. I decided to check with the hostess again one last time. She said we were next, so we agreed to wait. By the time the hostess finally sat us, we had about an hour before brunch ended. She took us down a few sets of stairs to a small room with a nice view. There was a large group seated there and us. A waiter was helping this table and watched us as we were seated in what I assume was his section. We sat there for 10 minutes, and no one came to check on us. Another party of 2 was seated. The waiter finally appeared again, and went to help the party that was seated after us. At this point, we decided to leave. As we walked out, I wanted to tell the hostess or manager we gave up our table due to the lack of service. I was too livid and headed to valet to pay for parking. The Reef made our daughter's event so special! We had our luncheon at The Reef on Saturday afternoon. We were helped by Jamie Schwarcz who took great care of us. The space in the Harborview Ballroom was so spacious and what a view! Our food was almost perfect and the wait staff was so professional and on top of everything. We cannot wait to come back and hope we will be able to have a luncheon there for our son in 2 and a half years. Happy to go back there anytime!
