It's currently 106 degrees on Saturday in Dallas. My outside unit had stopped working correctly…read moresometime last night. I asked friends for suggestions and got a couple. I called them and the soonest they could see me was Monday. I wound up on Yelp. I contacted a different HVAC company on Yelp but Yelp sent my information out, and Alan with HM Tech responded. Meanwhile I was reading a lot of reviews and getting a lot of answering machines and "see you Monday" appointment calls. As my inside temperature kept rising, I finally called Alan back, told him my problem, and asked how much a service call was and when he could be at my house. He told me the service call was $85 and said he could be here in a couple of hours (again, on a Saturday). He was here just about exactly when he said he would be, and he went right to work outside. By then my temperature inside was at 86 degrees. After maybe 20-30 minutes, Alan said that the fan capacitor and the compressor capacitor were both out and would need to be replaced. I asked him what that meant, if he had them, etc. He said yes and gave me a quote. I gladly approved the work. By about 3 o'clock, maybe a minute or two after, the work was complete. The invoice including his service call fee was under $400. (Again - on a Saturday.) While I don't wish for more HVAC problems, it's good to know I'll be able to rely on someone who is , honest, responsive, and very professional. I enthusiastically recommend Al's work!

No one wants to have to call an AC repair company, especially in the Texas summer heat, but if you…read moreneed to, call Nicks. The fan on my outside unit stopped blowing and after failing to diagnose the problem myself, I called Nicks. Great customer service upfront and I got the incredible Chris to come out and help. Turns out the contractor failed and Chris, being his amazing self, showed me what was wrong, how he figured it out, and more. I honestly cannot recommend Nicks enough. They're honest, kind, and fast, and will continue to be my AC go-to's.

Important note: This company was bought by Dunrite Heating and Air. Please read their reviews…read morebefore calling this company. Sadly, the owner of Nick's passed away and this company is now owned by Dunrite. I called that company based on the reviews of Nick's Air Services, but their services has definitely NOT been the same as mentioned on this profile. In summary, this company is expensive, can make improper recommendations, and the office is very difficult to get anyone to call you back. I absolutely would not use them again in the future and - had I read their Yelp profile for Dunrite Heating & Cooling - would never have called them in the first place. My experience: My air conditioning due to leaked refrigerant due to another HVAC technician not correct. Nick's/Dunrite came out during the same day and quickly identified the problem. There was a leak on the schrader valve. They got us back to running - for nearly $200/per pound of refrigerant. 5 lbs = about $1,000. Wow, but we had no choice as my original installer was not available. Our unit has not been keeping up with the 90s for the past two months and the technician recommended 3 different options. I chose 2 of the 3 options: a larger return air duct AND repairing the plenum. I was anxious to get the work scheduled and it took me hounding them to get them to schedule the work. Communicating with this office was very painful. I would never get calls back and would just get a text message indicating when they had scheduled the appointment. Their front desk support was exceedingly helpful but not empowered to do anything besides schedule appointments and pass along info. I finally had the appointment and the technician went to the wrong address. I got a call from them saying they had been at my house and then they proceeded to the next job. I spoke to them and learned they were at the wrong house, but could not turn around to go back to my house. I had to wait until the following week to get the appointment rescheduled. What a disaster. It got worse. The work was finally done - the return air duct and the plenum. I waited a couple of days, but there was NO change in the air conditioning. I called them back again and they scheduled another technician to come out. The second technician came out, a more senior technician, who confirmed that the unit was undersized and "working as it was designed" to cool at 75-76. I don't know a single person who is comfortable with 75-76 in the house when the outside is in the 90s. I called customer service again. When I finally got someone, I got a call from William, who is their most senior technician (an older guys in his late-50s probably). He came out with the original technical and instructed him how to properly do a heat load calculation. They determined indeed the unit is undersized and I needed a 3 ton. I called back the customer service asking for a refund to the work. I've called at least 3-4 times, each time speaking with a very nice person. However, I've still not been called back. What a disaster. I've finally had to resort to filing a complaint with my credit card and disputing it through them. It's unfortunate and I didn't want to have to do this, but - when no one will call you back - it's very very hard to trust this company to make things right.
