I had what I thought was a groin strain that had been nagging me for 3 weeks, and my coach told me…read moreit was time to get into Dr. Nelson and figure out what was really going on. He immediately had me take some x-rays, which I thought was going to be a huge waste of time and money because it was obviously just a muscle issue. I wouldn't be walking if it was bone, right? I was so wrong. Turns out that the injury is actually a broken pelvis. Dr. Nelson's intuition and on-site imaging technology changed my entire season over about the course of 5 minutes. I'm so grateful he didn't just do the basic physical that most doctors would have done and just assigned me some strengthening exercises. He got to the heart of the issue. What impresses me most about Dr. Nelson, however, is his bedside manner. He was so kind when I burst into tears and has been patient with me when I have argued (again and again) about what exercises he'd let me do. He knows I'm extremely competitive and is good at harnessing that to help me be the "best healer" I can be and get back to racing as quickly as possible. The whole staff is super kind and courteous. It's easy to get an appointment. Although I can't quite say it's been a pleasure being their patient, they couldn't make the experience any better.

had an extremely upsetting experience with Advanced Sports Medicine Clinic…read more I came in experiencing significant lower back pain, and I specifically told the doctor that I was also having abdominal pain and symptoms that were concerning to me. The Doctor still proceeded and gave me two steroid injections in my lower back. Shortly after being seen there. my condition became significantly worse and I ended up in the ER. I went into urinary retention, required a catheter, developed severe weakness in my legs, and eventually lost the ability to walk normally. I was ultimately hospitalized while doctors tried to determine what was happening. What has been especially difficult for me is knowing that I was trying to communicate that something felt seriously wrong with my body before everything escalated. Regardless of what ultimately caused my neurological symptoms, I wish my concerns and the combination of symptoms I was reporting had been taken more seriously and that I had been advised to seek a higher level of medical evaluation. After everything I went through--the ER, hospitalization, skilled nursing home, loss of mobility, bladder issues, and the ongoing recovery, I was honestly shocked that the clinic had the audacity to call me and still pursue my copay as though this had been an ordinary visit after what they put me through, given the circumstances, I would have expected significantly more compassion and consideration. This experience has had an enormous impact on my life, and unfortunately I would not feel comfortable returning to this clinic or recommending it to someone experiencing complex or rapidly worsening symptoms under this clinics care.

I came in with chronic Achilles tendon pain that had been hobbling me for six months. At that first visit he identified what the problem was, and over the next several visits, he showed me exercises and techniques to help this problem. Now, 8 months later, I am totally free of this pain, back to walking and riding my bike. I totally recommend David Butler and this clinic to anyone in need of Physical Therapy help, or anyone with muscle/joint pain.

To sum it up, I walked in with crutches and left without them (no, he didn't steal my crutches, haha!). I had hurt my ankle and I wasn't able to walk on it without pain, he took a look at my ankle, found where the pain was, and then he showed me exactly what bone and tendons were causing my pain on an anatomy app he has on his tablet. He then did all sorts of weird things to my ankle that I don't understand that physical therapists do, and then he taped it with a knob inside the tape to help keep my cuboid in place. After that, I was able to walk without my crutches. Absolutely amazing! All my other injuries have been treated with care, humor, understanding, thoroughness, and speed. I will never like the ASTYM treatment, but dang it, it WORKS. hahaha! If you have an injury, go see him, he's a miracle worker!

To start out I'll say I am an athlete and have been through physical therapy twice before. Once…read morepost knee surgery and once post left shoulder surgery. Now I'm back for my right shoulder and found Orrock and Mendenhall via online reviews. This has been my best physical therapy experience and the amount of time and care they put into each treatment is light and day difference from previous therapists. My appointments are on average an hour and 15 min and start with heat and electric treatment followed by a massage to get me warmed up before the work out then assisted stretching and finally with cold therapy. My previous experiences were less then 30 min and I left and felt like I could just do that at my house and ended up doing just that. This time I'm sticking with the in office visits because they do so much more than I could on my own. A big thank you to the entire staff at Orrock & Mendenhall Sports medicine and physical therapy!

For Orrock Mendenhall Sports and Physical Therapy:…read more Was a patient here for a few months last year. I had a low grade upper hamstring strain and wanted to tend to it properly. Buck put me on course with physical therapy routines that isolated various parts of my hamstring. Strengthening the areas around the affected area as well which helps with overall hamstring strength. During my visits I also worked on other general areas such as lower back and posture. Last he also helped assess and correct my running posture. I'm not a runner but it was a nice bit of extra knowledge. I recognize some of these additional exercises I wasn't necessarily in severe need of, but perhaps with my issue being a little smaller than others (Buck routinely worked with patients rehabilitating broken bones and complex sports injuries of all ages), Buck worked to maximize my sessions with other routines which to be honest did improve my overall fitness. I still use some of the stretch and exercise routines provided for my lower back and hamstrings to this day! I haven't had the chance to be back to physical therapy since (sorry Buck!!! :D) Thank you Buck and team for the assist!
