I've been growing my hair for years and she just grabbed a blade and chopped it all off. She kept cutting and cutting and instead of detangling my hair, she grabbed a blade again and chopped off some pieces. When I told her that I didn't like it, she started rolling her eyes, was blaming me and she never apologized for my hair and the bad service I received. She just got mad and told the manager it was my fault. The manager of the salon was amazing though. She listened to my concerns (even though the hairstylist tried to cut me off multiple times) and offered that another hairstylist fixed my hair. She placed me with an awesome lady that was very nice and tried to make me feel good about my haircut. She blended my layers and even out my hair since it was all choppy and awful, and it looked a little better.

I didn't know she was a junior stylist until I was already seated, I noticed the she were asking her colleagues for opinions/suggestions and that's when I realized that she's probably a junior stylist. I wanted to get a very light blonde ombre and because I dyed my hair red before it was really hard to get to the colour I wanted. Brittany, Nicole and Stephanie were really great on giving Tania their suggestions and tips on how to come to the most possible colour i wanted. It took us over 4 hours to get my ombre done since I had red dye before. Tania was very patient and nice... and I like how she's not overly talkative, I hate it when when my hairdresser talks too much when all you want to do is relax and read your book. The ladies here are all very nice and helpful, nice ambiance! I'm not sure why is there reviews regarding the service prices. I think it's pretty reasonable, it's almost the same prices as everywhere else. Though I paid cheaper since I got a junior stylist but even then I think a master hairstylist is a fair price. Keep in mind though that it's easy to miss this place, there's no signage on the window that says Mint Lounge, apparently the sign is high up.

As it starts the student removed the foils saying I'll meet you at my chair, oh let me take the cape from you. Of course it was wet I noticed. I proceed back to his chair out of nowhere the instructor (Lauren) approaches me rather quickly with a blow dryer saying "oh your jacket has water on the back let me blow-dry that for you". I trusted her word. The student comes back proceeds with blow-drying my hair once it was completed he showed me the back. Because my hair is long I couldn't see the stain on (my new jacket which I only got to wear twice) I paid $79 plus taxes. Until I got home removed my jacket noticed orange stain from the bleach from the salon. Ahh, then it made sense after I realized that's why instructor (Lauren) came over quickly claiming it was water, no it was bleach from the student doing highlights on my hair. I tried numerous times to contact the student online but nothing. Finally, he replies only because I left a msg asking when his manager would be in again. Oh, she went skiing got into a ski accident going to be off for some time. I said you know that you got bleach on my new jacket $79.00 + tax which is now damaged. The student kept denying it although he had the nerve to say to me which left me flabbergasted from his words. "oh, maybe you bought your jacket like this," seriously I'm gonna buy a $79 jacket with a orange bleach stain on the back! It's been 2 months since I finally reach the owner (Lianna) she says "he's sorry he got bleach on your jacket". I thought how can this be true? Only because I contacted him which he keeps denying he did it furthermore he hasn't worked at Zinc salon for over a year. I found this very interesting as well. Lianna says "I've heard all the stories I want you to stop calling do not come to my hair salon or I will call the police on you". I thought oh wow you didn't even hear my side and I'm the paying customer. First of all why would I return I sent her an email letting her know she can mail the money to my address that I'm providing. She replies in her email back "you need to come to my Hair Salon sign a paper then I'll give back your money". Why would I waste my time returning to a toxic environment more so the owner (Lianna) instructed me very firmly to not call nor come to her hair salon or she'll call the police on me. I have provided my mailing address to her saying you can email the paper then E-transfer the money you owe me for my damage jacket from the bleach since last year (2019). Of course I never heard back from her which I'm not surprised at this point. This paper she wants me to sign probably states I won't post anything online. A friend gets her hair done on Robson Street at a high end salon. The exact same thing happened this was a professional hairdresser (not a student) that got bleach on her blouse from doing highlights . The manager reimbursed her right on the spot and both apologized . This is what true customer service represents. To this day my friend still goes back there only because they valued her as a customer. She didn't have to go back after that experience but she chose to. I hope this posting will be helpful to anyone that's thinking about getting highlights at Zinc hair salon.

The salon is very clean, big and nicely decorated - definitely felt higher end, and in a great location just a few mins from the SkyTrain.
