Solid theater in a great location. Attractive setting. Comfortable reclining seats. Good sound, nice screens. Good if not predictable food and drinks. Ticket purchase is a little wonky. Wait in the food line. I like to buy tickets from a person, but surprisingly there is no standalone automated ticket system.

This was my first time experiencing a 4DX movie. I was in town for a music festival and decided to go see Deadpool & Wolverine at this theater. After first walking in, I loved how cool it looked inside and how big the building was, you have to take the escalator upstairs to get to the theater area. The experience was definitely worth the price to me, throughout the movie the seat moved like a rollercoaster basically, we could feel air blowing like wind, and water sprayed on us during the blood splatter scenes; all aspects matched what was happening in the movie. Def a 10/10. My ticket came out to $30. My overall rate of experience : 10/10

Location: centralized, convenient , in DC Chinatown, walking distance to restaurants , bars, and stadium Foods: surprisingly they have some of the best theatre Quality foods, pizza was cheesy on thin crust, mini corn dogs were tasty, pretzel bites were soft, and they loaded up that nacho Price: typical theatre pricing, which is everything is over priced as expected Atmosphere: open and clean, true enjoyed the 4D showing, seats were very comfortable Service: efficient Parking: there are many paid parking garage options nearby, convenient for DC Highly Recommended by @WineDinenVacay

I actually had a great time at this regal theater last week. It was clean and inviting and easy to get to. The team members that work there were very accommodating, kind and gracious. The food was hot and delicious and the theater itself was comfortable.

Entrance is via a walkway beneath the hidden dragon sign.

Stopped in here to see Mission Impossible 8. Good theater. Clean, quiet. Popcorn I got was kinda burnt, but it happens sometimes. Not gonna whine about it.

This is a great theater in a perfect location and so glad it stayed around. Only complaint is customer service can be hit or miss.

"We just want to show the films we like. The ultimate goal is to show as wide a swath of movies as…read morepossible: good, bad, new, old, weird -- whatever." I read that quote from one of the founders of Suns Cinema in a piece about the theater, and it pretty much sums up why I'm writing a five-star review for this 28-seat movie theater. I've loved movies since I was young, and seeing a movie in a theater is as special to me now as it was when I was a budding cinephile growing up in Dallas, a city with a surprisingly great independent movie theater scene. But in our post-pandemic, streaming world, movie theaters are struggling and we're losing some. But there are some positive signs, too: new theaters opening, historic theaters getting bought and protected. Suns Cinema was founded by two movie lovers with the help of crowdfunding. And they turned what had been a cellphone store into one of the coolest little cinemas in the country. They show whatever they want - foreign films, classics, the weirdest little surprises you'd never find on your own... Take for instance what's "Coming Soon" this month - a movie made in 1958 and a movie released this year; and movies directed by William Friedkin, Agnès Varda, Andrei Tarkovsky, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Alain Resnais... They show about 30 movies a month, and many sell out quickly due to the small number of seats/tickets available. When you arrive, you're carded and asked for your ticket at the door. Then, on the left downstairs, is a bar with a few snacks (popcorn, candy, olives) and some great drinks: well-crafted cocktails, a great wine list, beers, sodas, etc. Then up a steep flight of stairs is the screening room. It's tiny, with sets of mismatched movie theater seats and chairs and a screen as large as it can be in this little screening room. I had wanted to visit Suns Cinema for years, and this past weekend, it finally happened. A friend and I got tickets for the 6pm showing of Eyes Without a Face (which I had seen once 20 years ago and my friend had never heard of - I didn't let her Google it before the screening) on Saturday night. We showed up a bit early, grabbed snacks and a great glass of wine. You can hover in their bar (there are tables and barstools), but we decided to head upstairs to pick our seats. I'm not tall (I say five foot one but that might be a bit generous), so I'm always worried about having poor visibility in little theaters like Suns. We went to the front row, and this worked fine. (We played a game of Goldilocks when we walked in and tried a few seats and positions out, because each section of seats offers a different style of seat and view - if you get there early, you can Goldilocks it from the 28-seat selection, too). Sure, you can hear a bit of noise from the bar downstairs during the screening. And yes, they added an intermission to our 90-minute movie that wasn't designed to have one (I know my cinephile brother would fume about this), but seeing a movie at Suns reminded me of why I have always loved and still love going to the movies. It was amazing to hear the reactions our small audience had to our strange, shocking little movie. There were gasps and giggles and post-movie debate. Suns offers something no other theater in DC does (and that people in other cities may not be lucky enough to have). It creates a community for people who love or are interested in film. A place to see rare movies, strange movies, old movies, challenging movies. A place to see with people who want to share those movies and the experience of being in a cinema. If I lived in DC, I'd be here often. Living in Baltimore (a city that doesn't have anything close), I'll definitely be back. DC is lucky to have Suns Cinema.

I love going to the movies and, in particular, I love supporting independent movie houses. Suns has…read morebeen open for years, but I hadn't gotten around to being a patron until last week. First off, allow me to say just how lovely and responsive the theater staff was. The screening I wanted a ticket for had sold out online, but after some brief back and forth on Instagram, they suggested I arrive anyway as sometimes there are no shows -- it was my lucky night. It's definitely a small theater and it doesn't have any of the amenities you'd expect at a multiplex, but what it lacks in corporate comfort it makes up for with charm. It's clear this place is run by people who *love* the act of moviegoing as every nook and cranny of Suns has some kind of reference or homage to old school movie theaters or classic film. The bar downstairs has some cocktails, but I kept it simple with a $5 Miller High Life and Haribo gummies. The popcorn they have on sale is one size only which was fine for the price. Definitely most of the focus is on the beer and spirits which, like the Alamo, you can take with you to the screening room upstairs. The screening room holds maybe 25 people or so and definitely has more of a home theater vibe, but it makes for a really intimate gathering and atmosphere. Definitely a hipster hangout. That said, most of the movies they advertise here are older ones (like Scream 3 which I watched as part of their Parker Posey monthlong retrospective). I will definitely be coming back.

The chairs are comfortable and the receptionist were super sweet and helpful. I'd lost my email confirmation for my ticket and was able to call and have a young lady leave a copy of my ticket at the front. It wasn't just that she did it, but she was just so happy to be helpful and I really appreciated that. The movie itself was amazing and it was super cool being in company with people who love something I enjoy so much. The theater provided Shrek ears, a swamp bath bomb. and a blue bird that exploded after a sing off with Fiona haha. They encouraged people to quote, dance and sing along with the movie and it was very cute. I ordered the double cheeseburger burger with fries and extra pickles. The burger was 7/10, they didn't ask me how I wanted it but it was decent. Could've stood to be more seasoned but overall it was a solid burger. The fries were buns, 5/10, no seasoning and soggy. They also sell booze which would be ideal for a late night movie. They provide 4hrs of validated parking which is also a plus so it's quite possible to catch two movies in that time OR have a quick drink at metro bar before your time is up :o). Overall it was a great experience and I'll be back.

I bought a ticket online as I approached only to get a message saying that there would be no previews and no admission after the start time, so I sprinted there. In fact, there were fifteen minutes or so of previews. Other rules about no phones and such were posted, but weren't aggressively enforced. Their food operation was a negative in my eye; when the movie did start someone stepped in front of me to take an order and a credit card number from my neighbor. The smells were dodgy and lights were kept on under the seats to facilitate eating, despite the fact that most people seemed not to finish. For all their promoting how the focus is put on the movie, it just wasn't my experience. For my particular showing, the star of the movie was actually contracted to do a special introduction, which wasn't badly done in and of itself but which kind of detracted from the movie a bit. The reclining seats were comfortable, but I'm not a fan of leather. I'm a bit of an optimist about the number of movies worth seeing and the value of an in-person theater experience, but I usually find myself going outside the District now if I want to see a movie and this experience did not convince me otherwise.

Theater 1 isn't clearly labeled and you just have to know it's the large main room. The ordering system also takes some getting used to. In a very dark theater that's not practical, and there's no confirmation that the button was actually pressed. Service was inconsistent. We ordered bottomless popcorn and M&Ms. The M&Ms arrived after about 15 minutes but I had to remind them about the popcorn, which didn't come until nearly 45 minutes into the movie. We skipped ordering real food because we weren't confident it would arrive in time to enjoy during the film. That said, the chairs are comfortable, the staff is friendly, and the pricing is noticeably better than other dine-in theaters in the DMV. It has real potential. Just go in knowing it rewards regulars more than first timers.

Before the Michael movie began, my husband and I ordered popcorn, two milkshakes, and a meal for him (I believe it included skewers). Our total was over $70. My husband waited about 25 minutes for his meal before going to the counter to ask about it. He was told they were understaffed and returned to our seats. After another 25 minutes, the food still had not arrived. He went back to the counter, and they refunded only the meal he never received. In my opinion, the entire order should have been refunded because the delay significantly impacted our movie experience. My husband spent much of the beginning of the movie waiting and expecting his food, and ultimately had nothing to eat except popcorn. The bathrooms were also not well maintained. Multiple toilets were clogged and would not flush, leaving them filled with urine and toilet paper. The sinks were surrounded by water and strands of hair. In the family restroom, the toilet was continuously flushing, smelled strongly of urine, and the toilet seat was covered in dirt or some kind of buildup. I love the comfortable seats, but the poor service and lack of cleanliness made me hesitant to return. If I am paying premium prices for both dining and a movie, I expect timely service and clean facilities.
