Absolutely love this place. Great selection of movies most days of the week. Decent prices and great vibes. The theater is on the second level and they show previews of that month's movie selections, which is a great time because some of them are reeaalll campy. The crowd was great when I went too. I do wish they accepted MoviePass, however... my wife and I would come a lot more!

Wow, this spot has a cult following for a reason! This is the kind of place that makes you feel ALIVE in a city, and part of a neighborhood. And I can't think of any higher flattery than that. This is a small, indie theater that is often sold out because of its obsessed fans. And for good reason! They show a few different small indie films a month from all genres. My friend got tickets while I was visiting and wow it was a treat. The patio outside is a cool vibe, and once you step inside you feel instantly cooler. Walk into the lounge and have a seat before the showing upstairs, or grab something at the bar. They've got several fun cocktails and a large assortment of amaro. I tested one, and got another over ice for the show. Cheap popcorn, one size only - a must! The bathroom is a wild time - see pics for reference. The theater is upstairs and seats probably 20 or so in mismatched chairs. You instantly feel a part of a community. We were so lucky as to see Shaolin Soccer - a slightly more mainstream Chinese kung fu soccer movie that had us all in stitches. There's something about laughing alongside 20 other strangers in a funky theater that's unforgettable. This place has 5 stars for a reason: the folks who frequent Suns get it, and those that don't -- well, they need to go.

Cute theatre with great movie selections! The bar downstairs is super adorable and makes tasty cocktails. Would recommend as a date spot! Looking forward to checking out more movies here! I do wonder if they take movie recommendations at any point.

Suns Cinema, now a year old, is a fun neighborhood movie house with a lot of character and humor. Each month, they have a new theme, and the movies range from cult classics to more niche, indie/artsy films. Lined with zebra wallpaper and a mix of vintage furniture, it's a great escape from the usual D.C. scene and the typical movie experience. Movie tickets are $5.00 ($6.00 with processing fee), popcorn is $3, PBRs are $3, and the drinks are all typically $10 and under. A few tips: -Check their schedule ahead of time on sunscinema.com or on their monthly newsletter, and get your tickets ahead of time. As a teeny tiny movie venue, the tickets sell out quickly. -Every movie has a 10-minute intermission, and you can get up at any time to get drinks at the bar. -Try to get there early. I arrived last night maybe 10 minutes before showtime, and there were only seats up front available. -They now have TV dinner trays if you are hungry. Highly recommend the popcorn!

Loved this place -- what a great and hilarious concept! I don't know how you did it, but rock on. This tiny 'art house' theatre basically takes up the living room of a rowhouse in DC. We went there for a showing of John Waters's Hairspray and had a grand old time. We were among the last to arrive, and I would recommend getting there earlier. I did have to crane my neck a bit to see around people from the back, but heck it was part of the experience. I love that they have a little bar, and the Colonel had a Pink Flamingo Frose. Strong recommend.

Quaint, relaxed and hip little indie cinema with amazing retro decor and a terrific craft beer selection. This is the only place in DC to have a Heady Topper Double IPA while watching a film. Friendly staff and if you're into film, this place is to die for. I can't wait to go back.

I've seen two movies each at these theatres and for AMC Courthouse I like it but it certainly shows its age in some places for better or worse. Firstly I enjoyed seeing posters of older movies scattered in the hallway on display like one for The Silence of the Lambs adds a nice charm and while some find it tacky as a cinemaphile I think it adds charm especially since AMC has a habit of showing old films every now and then anyway. The theatre itself is small with only 8 auditoriums yet they're shockingly spacious. And it's a plus that this theatre is right next to the metro unlike Regal in Ballston Quarter which requires a bit more of a wall from the metro to get there. If you have a car there's a parking garage that offers free parking on the weekends. The staff and management are friendly and attentive. The first time I came to the theatre I saw a mouse before the movie started and I freaked out (and naturally so). When I went to management after they comped me a free voucher. I ended up misplacing it but the manager remembered me and still redeemed my free movie voucher for mt next visit. Great theatre and I'm glad this AMC is ran really well. I've def been to AMC locations that feel like they're being run to the ground. Not AMC Courthouse Plaza 8

I went early afternoon to see Disney's zootopia 2, so as anticipated there was a large mix of young patrons at the theater with their respective adult guardians. The theater did have a faint smell to it which I'm sure can be addressed after a good cleaning.

The reason you'd go here instead of there is simply convenience. The seats are rigid and small, and it's not a great way to watch a long event movie. The first two rows were apparently held vacant for my showing, which makes me wonder why you'd build a theater where the front row seats are so bad that they're blocked from use. I arrived early, but despite them having no trailers apart from a commercial for the museum you're already in, my movie still started 10-15 minutes after the listed time and thus finished rather late at night. It just isn't the top-notch entertainment experience I think that the nation's capital deserves.

It seems like people don't realize they are showing Hollywood movies here after dark because the theater was at least 75% empty. It is very clean and comfortable, and the massive screen really makes a difference. A few tips: + You have to enter on the Jefferson Street side, which is the entrance facing the Mall. + They do have concessions. You can get popcorn, though it's the prepackaged kind, not fresh. There are both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available, too. We had a tasty IPA from Red Bear. The museum lets you bring in bottled water, too. + The seats, while padded and comfortable, do not lean back, so it is difficult to see the screen unless you are sitting in the top half of the theater. I say Row J and above are best. You choose seats at the time of buying tickets. + When you enter, go left, there are signs for the theater, but there were also plenty of guards present telling people where to go. It was pretty easy. At the end of the show, the bathrooms are located in the basement level. The main drawback here is the theater has very bright blue lights illuminating the stairs that are not turned off during the movie. They completely wash out the bottom 10-20% of the screen. For the Bride, only a few scenes were in the IMAX format, so it wasn't a huge deal, but if you see an action movie that uses the format more, I can see it really ruining the experience. It seems like a pretty easy fix to block the lights from shining on the screen, like little covers over the top of the light fixtures, so the fact that they don't do anything about it is pretty disheartening. Overall, it is a unique experience worth trying, but if you are a lover of the IMAX format and are seeing a movie you are excited about, I have to recommend finding another IMAX option if you can.

The chairs are comfortable and the receptionist were super sweet and helpful. I'd lost my email confirmation for my ticket and was able to call and have a young lady leave a copy of my ticket at the front. It wasn't just that she did it, but she was just so happy to be helpful and I really appreciated that. The movie itself was amazing and it was super cool being in company with people who love something I enjoy so much. The theater provided Shrek ears, a swamp bath bomb. and a blue bird that exploded after a sing off with Fiona haha. They encouraged people to quote, dance and sing along with the movie and it was very cute. I ordered the double cheeseburger burger with fries and extra pickles. The burger was 7/10, they didn't ask me how I wanted it but it was decent. Could've stood to be more seasoned but overall it was a solid burger. The fries were buns, 5/10, no seasoning and soggy. They also sell booze which would be ideal for a late night movie. They provide 4hrs of validated parking which is also a plus so it's quite possible to catch two movies in that time OR have a quick drink at metro bar before your time is up :o). Overall it was a great experience and I'll be back.

I…read moreused to frequent the Crystal City location and had great experiences there, so I was excited to make this one my regular spot. Unfortunately, my recent visits have been a bit hit or miss. Food & Drinks This is where most of my frustration comes in. On my most recent visit (Sunday, April 26) to see the Michael Jackson movie, I tried to order a milkshake only to find out the machine was broken. This is the second time recently that the milkshake machine has been down. At this point, Alamo's milkshake machine is starting to feel like McDonald's... always broken. On another visit, I attempted to order iced tea and they were out. I then asked for lemonade and they were out of that too. I ended up settling for a ginger ale, which I was charged $8.50 for. Prices here are already on the higher side, but that charge felt incorrect since most of the other soft drinks listed were closer to $6. For what you pay, you expect basic menu items to actually be available. I also wish there were more gluten-free food options, as the current selection feels limited compared to other theaters and restaurants in the area. Service Service really depends on who you get. Some servers and staff provide great customer service and are attentive, but others act like they don't want to be there, which takes away from the experience. I did speak with the manager, Peyton, who was kind and apologized multiple times. However, the interaction felt like it lacked the professionalism or experience needed to actually resolve the issue. A small gesture, like comping an item or offering a return ticket, would have gone a long way, especially given that these weren't first-time issues. Ambiance & Logistics The theater itself is nice and generally clean, which I appreciate. The recliner seats are comfortable and, importantly, they always work, which is a big plus. There's also plenty of parking in the lot to the right of the theater, and parking can be validated for the garage, making visits pretty convenient. Overall I really want this location to be better because it's so close to home and has the potential to be a great neighborhood theater. But repeated issues with menu availability, inconsistent service, and pricing concerns make it hard to fully enjoy the experience. Hoping to see improvements, because convenience alone isn't enough to keep customers coming back.
