My son and I came here to see Toy Story 5, and we had a great experience. The young man who helped us purchase our tickets was incredibly kind, patient, and welcoming. He even assisted us with signing up for an AMC membership, which was very convenient for us. The theater itself was clean and well-maintained. The concession area was neat and organized, and ordering our popcorn and drinks from the kiosk was quick and easy. She said "okay," and then marked the bottom of my bucket. Mkayyy, girl. Not that deep. I know some AMCs do this but to not even be nice about it? This movie theater is closest to me, so that's the only reason why I would choose it. I have never had a problem with anyone working there. Everyone has been friendly and knowledgeable. The location is convenient however the seats did not recline properly and the leather had been pulled off. An AMC upgrade is needed. We went to a 10pm show and the bathrooms were horrible. The movie itself was awesome. But I was often distracted by the noise from other movies (had to be an action movie), the noise from concessions, and interrupted by people who didn't buy tickets. The soda machines only offered Powerade and one didn't even work but was left wide open, exposing the inside of the machine. I came back out before the movie started and informed the young man who took my order. He apologized over and over again, dumped all of the old popcorn and made a fresh new batch. Cool movie theater. I gave it five stars cuz I didn't wanna knock the place. It's probably closer to 4 cuz it's not the cleanest or the fanciest theater I've been too, but the price and availability of seats made up for it. I came on a Friday night to watch a fairly new movie and there were a ton of seats still available. The theaters are not the biggest, but the sound and quality were still good. I also didn't get ripped off at the concessions stands either. They have a deal if you buy a $12 card you can watch any movie on Tuesdays for $5.49!! Thinking about getting it. Reserved 10:20pm movie and concession stand basically was shut down prior to my movie starting. Only thing they served was popcorn and drinks. Upon entry, nobody at the entrance to scan my ticket. Additionally, the theater itself was not clean. Seats were visibly sticky. Inexcusable. I'd rather visit the amc in Waldorf because I've never had this issue. Great Staff who are attentive to customers, the rooms are clean and snacks, food is good. I have never had an issue with this location.

The ticket booth/check in area is small and has a weird set up. There's no space between the ticket counter and the person who takes the ticket and concession line. Not impressed with the food quality either. I understand movie snacks are generally a rip off but to not at least get a decent serving is ridiculous. The workers were pleasant but some didn't know what combos/deals they offered. They didn't have certain beverages they were advertising. The reserved and reclining seats are a plus and the theater was clean. The parking area outside can be inconvenient because it's in a strip mall so you have other people shopping for other things using the same area. All in all, I'd return again if I was on this side of town but I've been to better theaters. read more

This has become my "Go To" theater when going to the movies solo or if I have friends staying at the house and we want to go somewhere close. It is a quick drive from SE DC/Congress Heights. It seems to be a newer renovation and it boast electronic "leather" comfy reclining seats, ample leg room, and you get to choose your seat. If you have not experienced a theater with the reclining seats it was like watching a movie in your PopPop's recliner. LOL I like AMC's butter and their Sprite (Coca-Cola Freestyle Machine - Self Serve) the best out of all of the movie theater chains. Add that to the convenient short drive from SE, the tickets pricing being slightly lower than other theaters, the ample and free parking out front, and the comfy seats and leg room...I am a fan. Customer service is in the "fair" range. I do often attend movies here during "off peak" hours so that has shaped my experience and of course my review. I have not had issues with noisy patrons disrupting the movie or issues with parking. The few times I have been to a night movie I have not run into issues but I do not go often enough to evening showings to say. I love it! It is one of my happy places :-). read more

This is the closest movie theater location to me but 99% of the time I go to other theaters further out because it always looks unkept. Trash everywhere outside of the theater, bathrooms always a mess that I won't even use them and floors always feel sticky. I can't complain about the crowds of teens because you can't help that but you need to ensure to have proper maintenance of the space. I only gave it two stars because the upgrade to the reclining seats and the people at the concession area are always very nice teens there....The ticket people don't seem to want to be there and weird layout as they are behind a desk like it's the customer service desk like in other theaters. I would love to safe gas money and use my community theater vs driving to VA all the time and to not have to avoid this theater especially when my family comes over and it's embarrassing to bring them there. AMC did a great job with renovating this theater. If you remember visiting in the past it looks vastly different! New reclining seats that you can find at the AMC in Waldorf. Very clean nice carpet. Well lit. Digital screens with theater number, movie, and showing times. Even the kiosks are upgraded with a scan feature to scan a QR code (Fandango provided this in a confirmation email). Staff was friendly. I was greeted by the ticket seller as soon as I opened the door. Ticket taker and concession staff was friendly as well. On a 6/7/15 visit, it seemed as if the morning concession lady wasn't very sure of the AMC stubs card use or upgrades. The person in front of me had such a hard time. My free upgrades for drinks and popcorn were just charged at regular price. Nice to have a reserved seating option so close to home. I can be there in less than 10 minutes and can avoid most of St barnabas/Oxon Hill Rd traffic on busier times by taking back roads. read more

This theatre has done some upgrades (reclining seats, new menu items, etc). However, it's a constant muggy feeling and musty smell. And why are you the ONLY AMC that doesn't offer complimentary water? I mean...it's the tiniest cup and it's water. The guy was telling me this while a red & white cup with the words "complimentary" printed all over it. Really, dude? This is why I like Regal more. Shout out to you Regal Cinemas. You are officially the winner in my book, not counting the theaters like iPic that serve you meals in your seat. Recently most horrible movie theater experience ever! Concession stand was confused, slow and unorganized with popcorn all over the place. Movie was stop due to fire alarm however everyone was told to go back to their seats. Once back in theater there was a loud crackhead lady being loud and obnoxious through out the rest of the movie... Will never return again!!! read more

I'm very pleased with the upgrade. I honestly forgot what theater I was at until we stepped outside... LOL. But everything was nice and new. I hope it stays that way. Although I must say that I'm not sure it will.... the employees are why there's only 4 stars. We didn't have to speak to the ticket people since we got tickets through Fandango, so no opinion there.... we walk inside and see all the employees crowded at the concession stand talking... they don't even notice us walk in initially. I kinda chalked it up to the fact that our movie was at 10:30 in the morning. Maybe we were the first people there... anyway, one of them finally notices us and signals to the ticket person. She walks up and his very friendly as she scans my phone. She heads back to her friends at the stand and we literally have to ask her what theater we are in and then we have to remind her that we're seeing a 3D movie and that we need glasses..... once we get them we make our way to the theater only to find out that it's the wrong one..... SMH. No matter how good the theater is now, it'll never stay that way if the employees don't take some sort of pride in their jobs... we'll go back for sure, for now..... read more

Movie Night -_- My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night to see The Conjuring 2. The movie theater was extremely busy and very loud. We came here before for a matinee maybe around 1 or 2 and it was perfect however this time was a mistake to come here after 7pm. While we was waiting in line, we overheard a commotion with the ticket person and a customer. The ticket person was yelling at the customer asking for his ID, I guess he didn't want to show it to her however, in my opinion as a employee you should keep your composer when you're dealing with customers especially when people are around. I thought that was very unprofessional. Throughout the entire movie kids was running up and down the stairs and talking throughout the entire movie. Screaming at unnecessary scary parts just to make noise. Even the adult who was responsible with them was talking throughout the entire movie. My boyfriend was VERY VERY upset about this and I can understand why. You pay for a movie ticket to watch the movie in peace not with people drawing unnecessary attention to them. We won't come here again after hours or at all. Beware there's a lot of teenagers and kids here on a Friday night. Only been here a handful of times and there are three consistent themes that I've experienced. Statistics tell me not to return. 1) people constantly talk through the movie. WHY pay for a movie if you're just gonna talk during the whole thing?! It never fails!! So disrespectful. 2) always understaffed. One ticket rep, one concessions person, etc... I always seem to forget this movie theater exists. I also don't go to the movies too often. When I do it is either to E Street to see an independent flick, Silver Spring for a film festival screening or Marlow Heights for the rare nationally released movie that I end up seeing. Since Rivertowne isn't walking distance from a Metro station, I like that it there is a suburban parking lot if you are driving. And not suburban like Pentagon City or any of those parking that are metered. AMC Rivertowne is an AMC theater so it is pretty bright and modern. Nothing drab about it. Since my visit was on a very busy day, I must highlight that is was clean for all of the foot-traffic it withstood. Of course the snack options are pricey. I would love for them to be cheaper and for healthier things to be offered. But I suppose that's why you're supposed to eat before you go to the movies. That said, they have a Chicken and Waffle Sandwich that is probably as bad for you as it sounds but I will try before I die! This time I kept it simple and dropped 4 something on a bottle of Tropicana. Outside of a Chicken and Waffle Sandwich is probably teeming with nitrates and whatnot, AMC Rivertowne boasts reclining seats. That's tight! So, I would recommend this theater for folks staying at the National Harbor since it is so close. Something else to do without having to come into D.C. I had a 4 Star experience. I would, if I was manager or runnin thangs try to have all the action movies on one side because the explosions bleed over and woe to those trying to watch some heavy movie and they blowin up the world on the other side of the wall. read more

Great theater and friendly staff! We saw Aquaman and there were plenty of kids in their including ours. Even toddlers which is ok cause the volume is WAY up. So don't sit too close or you'll need earplugs like a rock concert! I'm not looking for a deflected blame but for amc to do better. There's little kids in there & what they are showing in the previews is not for kids. AMC gets away with this but putting "not rated yet" but it is rated R for sure! Hence why I am posting this to warn other parents. Cover your kids eyes for the previews since AMC does not preview them. I'm here on vacation with some friends and family. The parents left us in charge and we decided to take the kids to a movie theatre. Luckily it's only minutes away from the hotel. Maybe it was out bad to come in on a Friday njght. But because of that fact, I would think that they would have more than one cashier handling tickets. Like....a whole line outside of the door on a Friday night. We were in the D.C area and we were looking for a place to take our child to see Cars 3. We are AMC members and this theatre was the closet to the Gaylord National. So we just took a chance and we went to AMC Rivertowne. When we got here the place was very crowded (note to travelers...never come at night) and hot. Inside it was cool but in the theatre, it was very hot and no air circulating. We asked the management if they can turn on the AC, which they kindly did. I honestly love this theatre but oddly enough everyone is a manager here. I left my wallet in a seat and called back to speak to a manager and got a supervisor. The guy who answered the phone said he would check my seat and when I got back and didn't see my wallet he claimed he didn't check. The general manager never called me back after several attempts of me trying to get answers. I understand this is only a movie theatre but it doesn't mean that the service should be poor. This should be an experience that doesn't just start and end inside the movie theater but with staff also. I would go back but I will leave my personal belongings somewhere safe. I am disguusted by this theatre. It gets two stars only because I liked the movie I saw. The people working there seem very distracted or sleeping while they are working sorta thing which I can understand. When I work sometimes I get tired, I understand but I do not outwardly show it. MAIN POINTS: * I FOUND AN ARMPIT HAIR OR SOME OTHER BODILY HAIR IN MY POPCORN. Like ew????? * The movie was supposed to start at 12:30, it started at like 12:45. There weren't even any previews running at that time, it was just a black screen. It was like they said oh yeah forgot to start the movie. * There were immense amount of popcorn left in the seats from I guess an earlier showing. * I bought my brother's ticket and he is tall but he is very young and eligible for child tickets which i asked for and the woman who was ringing me laughed at me and said he wasnt. * No one asked for my AMC card and I am immensely forgetful so I didnt remember until i sat down in my seat so i didn't get any of my points for anything. I decided to visit this theater after hearing about the upgrades that had been made. After purchasing my ticket and walking in, I wasn't too sure if it was even open as there were boxes sitting at the door and all of the staff were crowded around a table playing cards. They looked at me then at each other like "who is going to get up and help her?" Eventually a young lady stopped her conversation with the young man working at the concessions stand to come over and take my ticket. I was 10 minutes early for the movie. Usually when you arrive early to a movie, there is some type of movie trivia and/or behind the scenes footage on the screen. The projector hadn't even been turned on. I sat in the dark theater by myself for 10 minutes which was really creepy. I was worried there was no one working in the projection room since all of the staff seemed to be engaged in a card game outside. Fortunately, the previews started on time. Once the movie ended, I walked out and the staff were all still sitting around talking. There wasn't any type of customer service. It reminded me of one of the reasons I had stopped coming to this theater in the first place: the unprofessional staff. Even with the upgraded seats, AMC Rivertowne will still be considered a last resort when it comes to local movie theaters. read more

First time going to this theater and will never go back. Weird set up and very unclean. Looked like the floors had not been cleaned in months. Literally looked like bucket of popcorn had been thrown down the halls. Bathrooms very dirty and weird smelling. Movie was unfocused but they tried to fix so a plus on that part. 30 mins into the movie a group of 3 walked in talking loud and laughing, one even on a FaceTime call. After a couple of mins went to the front and told them and they didn't seem to care. I walked out. So I paid for a movie and saw 30 mins...
