When this movie theater first opened, I wasn't impressed. There was nothing special about it, and I think at first they didn't even have ICEES! The thought of having to watch a movie without a frozen treat is pretty frightening. I've been back a few times and it has progressively gotten better. I went last weekend to see the last Hunger Games, and I was so impressed! The chairs in the theaters are now reclining chairs. Part of me didn't want to write this review because I'd like to keep this on the down low. I like the fact that it's not overly crowded. I mean it's a less crowded movie theatre with reclining chairs (and now ICEES), what more could you ask for? read more

My new favorite theater. I know, I know, Kenner seems like a worlds away but it's really not too bad, plus you don't have to fight the Vets or Clearview traffic. Incredibly comfy, leather reclining seats with so much leg room and enough space between seats to not have to deal too much with lip smacking and popcorn crunching, for you fellow misophonia sufferers like myself. Mouth noises= my personal hell. But here, I was in movie heaven. And my husband would have been too if the movie we were seeing wasn't "Me Before You." Well, sometimes your wife needs a good cry while sobbing into her bottomless, fake butter filled popcorn. Isn't marriage about compromise? Ps. I have been to this theater many times with no real issues. However, I was trying to book an event and NO ONE ANSWERS THE PHONE! I've gone through several automated systems, then a FAKE automated system, (clearly an employee recorded a mesage to sound like an automated system system and she does a horrible job at it). I got the actual theater number (504)229-4259, they provide several options to press and none of them work. NOT ONE. If you hold on the phone hangs you up, or someone pick up and hangs up. I then called the corporate number provided (504)297-1133 ext. 228. The number works, however the extension is invalid. Seriously? This is extremely unprofessional. In addition, the wrong national number is provided on the website??? FAIL. read more

Nice, cozy and comfortable. Great recliner seats, very clean facility. Concession lines are ridiculous and I only wish they were a bit faster or better staffed. I really enjoy watching movies here like other theaters in the city if I chose I could watch with a margarita,hurricane or frozen coke, it's an option. Lighting in the parking lot makes me leary at night but very attentive to the times I chose to attend showings. Very dark in certain areas. read more

This was my favorite theater for so long! But I'm so disappointed in them. I just left and had to get a refund for Scary Stories at 10:00pm because there's families with BABIES in the theater. When I brought it to the managers attention I was told they could talk to them about being quieter. You can't make a BABY quiet down. The Grand is located just outside of Esplanade mall. The brand new theater has GPX, which from what I understand is just like imax without saying its imax. The gpx has wall to wall screen and the sound is so loud it will drown out even the most annoying movie goer. The seats are large and comfy with lots of wiggle room. I think its more on the smaller side as far as seating goes. Not sure if the other screens offer more seating, but in comparison to the Palace 20 in Elmwood I felt that the theater overall was much smaller. Now, bigger is not always better and I think this theater suites this area of the city perfectly. Any bigger and it would look empty. On a weekend night the lines were not very long for tickets or concessions, which is what I liked about it. Going to a hectic theater with 15 minute long lines is not my idea of a relaxing time at the movies. It's proximity to the interstate makes it easy to access so I think Kenner will be seeing more of me. Ps. The popcorn is really good too! read more

Screen 1 has some serious issues. The is a huge bright spot in the center right and the whole screen looks like it has screen door screening over it. Very distracting. Has been this way for several months. I forgot about it until I saw a movie tonight again in screen 1. Ugh! read more

Reclining plush leather oversized seats! Need I say more?! I didn't love this theater at first, but ninjas definitely grown on me. The swapping out of the rigid plastic cloth seats for these bad boys definitely sealed the deal. Most times, the theater is far less crowded than the Palaces and the prices are a smidge less as well. The Reel Rewards program is a pretty good deal too, and you get a free popcorn and drink just for signing up. Only negative is the restrooms are kind of in the back. read more

I love the grand! It's so cozy. The chairs are amazing. They are so comfortable. They have a great drink menu and bar. I wish they had more items on their food items. They only have popcorn, nachos, pretzels, hotdogs, ice cream, and candy. Other than limited food options, I love the grand! read more

We are in town for vacation. Stopped by. Tickets are approx 9.00 for matinee price. Seats were super comfy. Large black leather seats. And buttons to recline or prop feet off. Saw a bar in corner . Nice clean. Would be back. read more

So, the movie was good. Seats were comfy. The t-Rex margarita was great. The bartender was very nice and helped me make a great selection. The thing that got me was when me and my husband were going to our car, we noticed another car that had the back door driver side open and the car seat and things tipped over. Ok, not a big deal to most but since everythings happening in the world and my background I felt uneasy. I took a picture and went inside. The ticket guy was looking how I felt and said to talk to the manager because he understood the concern but didn't know exactly what to do. Well, both of the mangers seemed more interested in talking to some guys at the time. The red head one kept making weird sarcastic facial expressions as I explained what was going on. All she could tell me was "well, we don't have a intercom so we just have to hope for the best". Oh and did I shut it? No I didn't touch it. It's the fourth and things already go wrong in the world. Well needless to say I called the police and am waiting on them at the moment. read more

Seats are exceptional but have never in my life sat through a movie with a more inconsiderate crowd. Probably 1 in 4 on their phones and the rest just having conversations in their normal speaking voice. Highly suggest having an employee doing a round or two during each feature. Normally, we choose this theater instead of others in the area because we just like the crowd and atmosphere better here. But tonight, we were disappointed. We bought two tickets to Night School, got to our seats, and enjoyed the movie. Or, we enjoyed what we saw of the movie. Partially through, it suddenly stopped playing. Then it came back. Then it died again. Came back again. Died again. It did this several times before finally stopping for good. Annoyed, a few of us in the theater left and decided to try and find someone to fix it. We found no one. We tried calling the number, no answer. We even yelled out near the kitchen door and staff bathroom. Nothing. We heard people in the kitchen, and even knocked on the door... Nothing. After some time, we just gave up. Tried calling again and still got no answer. This is a big let down from one of our favorite places. Disappointed, but hopeful that this isn't a regular thing here. read more

You know what? The grand doesn't disappoint. Those recliners and the auto ticket thing really make rod a rather efficient theater. I guess that's how they're still in business while the mall next door hand in by a thread. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because the good is just sad. We usually catch the late show on Sundays or Mondays...the manager is really sweet and always makes sure we get what we need. The chairs are more comfortable than any other theater. The pretzels are microwaved which is not tasted at all and I wouldn't get again. I wish their cheese wasn't old school pump, I spoiled by what amc has I guess. It's def a more comfortable theater just could upgrade on the snacks. Also when are they opening the bar? Not that I drink but it just seems like a waste sitting there unused. It's close to home so ill go again esp bc of the chairs...but if I could change one thing it would be a better nacho cheese option...the pump cheese is gross and I go to the show for the nachos!! Wouldn't hurt to upgrade on that, I'd pay more for quality!! read more

I go to this theater frequently with my wife and a good friend. I like it. The screens and sound are good. The seats in the GPX theater are exceptional. The seats in the regular theater are good but lean back at an awkward angle. I get used to it because I fully recline to watch the film anyway but when I first sit in them it reclines way too far. The big thing for me besides the movie itself is the popcorn flavoring. It is very inconsistent. I like ALL of my popcorn to be yellowish indicating that it has lots of seasoning which I love. Several times I have received popcorn without enough seasoning indicating that the person adding the flavoring is not paying attention or flavoring it to their taste. NOT GOOD! For what they charge for popcorn it has to be well flavored which it is most of the time. I have received mediocre flavoring and returned it to the concession to get the same flavoring. If I get this any more then I will go to AMC. It is that big an issue to me. read more

I can't say it enough - LOVE LOVE - The Grand at The Esplanade. The GPX screen is amazing...to me better than IMAX. I live in Kenner and I am so glad to have this new state of the art theatre in Kenner just a few minutes from my home. I have been a few times and the seating for the various screens vary - some screens have 200 seats others are smaller...which I did enjoy. But if you are a fan of IMAX treat yourself to the new all digital GPX screen - it is 3 stories tall and has the most amazing seats. Yes the tickets aren't cheap but I found it worth every penny for the GPX experience. read more

I'm giving this theater a middle of the road review for now. I haven't been to the theater yet. I'm considering going tomorrow. My review at this point is on the web page for the theater. Visited it today for movie listings and times. There is a lot going on there - big ads for Jaws and popcorn etc. The movies playing and the times of showings is tiny and you have to scroll down to see everything (all jammed up in that tiny space). That is their business...if a patron can't see the listings they will go else where. A business shouldn't me a potential customer work to hard to use the service they provide. Went to see planet of apes and the beginning of movie got screwed up and out of sync and had to wait 15 min for restart. Then at biggest part at the end , the lights went on and started running promos over movie and totally missed a whole scene. Only positive part was that employees were handing out free tickets after movie and apologizing. Heard that it happened during other movies too on other days. read more

We love the theater, love the seats, go here all the time. I hate the reserved tickets. I had girlfriends meeting me and had to wait until we all got there to get tickets and hope we could all sit together. It makes something easy more complicated then it needs to be. Also a child was sitting in someone else's seat and the parents wouldn't make the child move so the person who had the seat had to get someone that worked there. Again could have been avoided. read more

The comfortable recliners alone are worth the trip. I don't care what part of town you stay in. I damn near fell asleep. Unlike some other theaters, they keep the A/C on so yanno the place is actually cool in the summer. The place is clean as a whistle too. read more

The lighting for the steps in the theater are way too high and is a constant irritation. The lighting shines in your eyes unless you sit dead center. They don't need to be that high but theater mgmt. doesn't care what their customers tell them to improve their business. read more
