When I visited there, the weather is about 50F, it was so nice to spend time in the outdoor hot tub and look up at starry sky. We've been…read moretimeshare owners here at Woodstone for 25 years, and we decided to utilize our home unit rather than trading through RCI this year. This review is specifically about our check-in experience as well as the unit we stayed in. I will review our other activities at the resort separately. Check-in. There have been HUGE improvements to the check-in processes since our last visit in 2023. There are now SELF check-in kiosks. You respond to the necessary identification prompts and, when finished, a staff member comes over with an information packet and room keys. You still need to go to another desk to pick up your parking pass, where you are encouraged to attend an "owners update", AKA a timeshare presentation. Although we had promised each other that we would resist any and all encouragement to attend an update, we were quickly persuaded when we heard that the incentive would be a generous $300 in Massanutten's Mad Money (to be used on-site for activities, restaurants, or shops) or a $150 Visa card to be used anywhere. *Pet-peeve: Massanutten charged a "resort fee" of $74.90 for our 7-night stay in a 2-bedroom unit, which is on top of the maintenance fees that we already pay annually. Not sure of what this is for as most activities also have individual fees associated with them. Unit: we were assigned Woodstone unit Y9, which we absolutely loved. It's a two-bedroom downstairs unit in a townhouse that sleeps 6 (with a pull-out couch in the living room). It's an end unit that has an outside porch with small table and chairs overlooking the pond. We were entertained daily by the geese on the pond, as well as an occasional family of deer passing by our unit. Massanutten Mountain is a 10-15 minute drive up the mountain, and there are fabulous views of the mountains and the rolling green hills of the golf course. The unit itself was seemingly recently updated and clean, and had most of what we needed. It had a full kitchen, with full-sized refrigerator/freezer, stove/oven combo, microwave, dishes, cups, pots/pans, plastic storage containers, etc. Importantly, there was sufficient shelf space to fit our groceries! There were also starter packs of coffee/tea, and dishwashing and laundry detergents. *Hint. If you're going to be doing any cutting, you might want to bring a large, sharp knife. While the unit had knives, I had difficulty cutting a butternut squash because the largest knife was dull. Also, bring along your own cups if your preference is for LARGE cups of coffee or tea. The dining area is adjacent to the kitchen, and had a table that seats six. Placemats are provided. The living room was comfortable, with sofas, side tables, and a bureau. A television is above the gas fireplace (which we couldn't get to work. Perhaps it wasn't turned on yet for the season). The master bedroom had a huge king-sized bed with a comfortable mattress, dresser, side tables, work-table, large closet, and television. Our only complaint was that the pillows weren't comfortable as they were soft and lumpy. The master bath had a large whirlpool bath with six jets; dual sinks; a toilet with closed door; towels and wash cloths; hair dryer: and a packet of toiletries. The second bedroom had two twin beds, and an adjacent small bathroom (including shower). The unit also had an ironing board and iron. The thermostat allowed you to regulate the temperature in your own unit; extra blankets were in the closet. The entrance foyer is shared with the upstairs unit, and has a shared laundry unit with washer and dryer (free). The upstairs unit (stairs only; no elevator) was occupied for only two nights, and we could hear their child running back and forth but the sounds were quite muffled and didn't disturb us. Nights were quiet. There was a short wooden walkway leading from the (free) parking area directly outside of our unit. We noticed that one of the wooden slats was broken, but forgot to report it. However, a day later, we were impressed to find that the slat had been replaced. This unit is close to the park area with playground, shuffleboard and corn hole games, and tennis/pickleball courts.

This building functions as a bit of a central bathing area for Massanutten Resort's condos. We came…read morehere to check in/check out as well as use various amenities like the pool, hot tub, sauna, and gym. I didn't have a chance to visit the other rec center but from talking to employees, it sounds like this one is better for kids because the pool is designed for play, not lap swimming, is warmer (88 degrees!), and most of it is shallow enough for kids to stand. There's also locker rooms for changing/storing stuff, and they do provide towels when you go to the pool area. If you're doing a timeshare presentation (and not an owner already), this is also where you will come to do your timeshare presentation. And it's just across the parking lot from a small convenience store if you want to pick up a few items like milk so it really is a central gathering place.

I had ongoing issues with my AC starting on check-in. When I returned to my room after an all-day meeting on the 3rd day of my stay, the temperature in the room was 80 degrees and the AC would not even turn on. I called the front desk to learn that the AC in my room was officially not working. They claimed that they notified me of this issue while I was in my business meeting, but there was no voice mail, text or email supporting their claim. I even checked with the individual who had made the reservation. On checkout (when a manager was there), I asked how they wanted to handle my situation hoping they would attempt a service recovery. They responded that "they had moved me to a room with working AC". (Note: I did the move which also made me late for a scheduled dinner meeting.) When I commented that I did not feel this was enough, they offered me a complementary cup of coffee. So...my business is worth a cup of coffee? I do not think so!

Unfortunately, because of our choice of year, we ran into a few problems, all of which were addressed promptly and satisfactorily by the owners of Brookside. And, because of that, we are in position to review several of the cabins! We booked Cabin 9 and battled through crazy DC drivers who freak out over a literal two inches of snow (aside: seriously DC-area, get it together!) Diane in the gift stop called us that morning to warn us of the impending snow and to let us know that if we ended up arriving late, they would leave the key for us under the doormat. Amazing foresight and we really appreciated her call. When we walked into our cabin, the bathroom sink was overflowing and not draining. Turns out the cold winds had frozen the drainage pipes and Cabin 9, being at the end, got the brunt of it. Cece and Bob, the owners, came down immediately and gave us our choice of cabins. We chose number 2, which is a cozy space with a hot tub, angled bed and intimate fireplace area. The second morning, when we were moved back into 9, the water went out over the entire resort just after our morning shower, but by the time we returned to the cabin in the evening, it was fixed. Overall, I liked Cabin 9 best, with its open layout, its great view from the Jacuzzi tub and its numerous skylights. Cabin 2 was cozy and romantic and I liked the layout of the sofa area around the fireplace and the hot tub was pleasant. Both are ideal for a couple, though Cabin 9 has a pull-out sofa and is large enough to not feel too crowded with kids. We also had a peek into Cabins 7 & 8. Number 8 has a full kitchen and two bedrooms and would be great for a family or even the main house for a family reunion. Cece said it is popular for Thanksgiving gatherings. Cabin 7 is a jacuzzi cabin that was intended to be a two-bedroom but instead has a "tub room." If you like privacy for your Jacuzzi it makes sense, however we did not like that each room was separate. The greatest part about the winter? Beautiful snow-covered trees and a partially frozen brook that still babbles underneath it AND the amazing Christmas decorations in each cabin. The usual decor is a bit old-fashioned and flowery, but the Christmas decorations are really fabulous and fun. The restaurant was closed from Thanksgiving until the second week of January. Also, the cabins are really close to 211, which could get noisy in the summer, maybe? But we did not hear much traffic from our cabin, which was next to the roadway. Plus, you can't get any closer to the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park. We hope to return this spring!

It also had enough for us to be comfortable and entertained together, on the mountain every night when we put them to bed. Overall the cabin was very clean, the terms were reasonable, it had everything we needed, and the view/location was perfect. If you're traveling to the area I'd definitely recommend looking into their options.
