Our family bought in to Mountainside Villas about 5-6 years ago and have had nothing but amazing, mutli-family vacations here. The units are enormous, with space to spread out. Very well stocked and enormous kitchens, high ceilings, large windows and situated beautifully on Massanutten Mountain. Wish they had propane instead of electric fireplaces, but other than that, this place is great. Most of the units appear to have the major stuff updated (Kitchens, Baths & more) but it is a more rustic with older decor, but okay to put your feet on the coffee table sort of place perfect for families. They have access to all of the other resort stuff on the mountain as well. read more

Well... I put off reviewing this site until I was able to off-load the timeshare that was "gifted" to me by a relative. Thanks, but you can have it back. Our week was 48--right in the middle of nothing. It's the height of off-season, so understand that my review may be tainted by the fact that most "things" are closed, there's no snow, and everyone is gearing up for the storms to come. The condo was nice. Well-equipped and cozy. Kids loved playing in the downstairs "hot tub," but the water got cold before the entire spa was filled. Upgrades will be needed at some point...but not sure that they'll survive the timeshare tradition. I was lucky to find someone willing to take this off my hands. Paying the annual fee was only slightly less than 3-4 nights at a decent hotel elsewhere. If you're able to buy into RCI and enjoy the benefits of banking and playing the weeks/points game, this is a decent start. I wouldn't return every year. Particularly in the off-season. read more

Be warned. Terrible resort. We never received any communication from the resort, no emails or calls, nothing letting us know what to expect or costs etc associated with the stay. When we arrived, they told us there was a activities fee for $80 without disclosing that most of the activities were closing for the off-season or there was very little to do with the recreation card we received for the $80 fee. We only had access to two of the pools on the entire resort and they were closed half the time we were there. We were told we had access to the rec center but half the things at the rec center had extra costs including the pool tables. Literally every other resort we have ever stayed at had the pool tables and arcade free as well as the put put, pool etc. Not this place, pay extra for everything. Only after I confronted them on the very little that I had found to be available to use did they tell me it was the off season and things were closed. I demanded a refund for changing me for something with no value and they told me it wasn't going to happen. They tried to blame Massanutten for everything but they were the ones being deceptive. To top that off, they didn't bother to tell us they had a water main break and imagine our surprise when all the water was coming out dirty and brown for our first day. Even better is the 45 year old decor in units that haven't been upgraded since the place was built. We are owners in Mountainside villas. Made the jump a few years ago as the townhouse units are awesome for a family. 2 bedrooms and a loft. The 2 person Jacuuzi tub is a family favorite. Sauna is awesome to have in until. Washer and dryer is awesome to have too. Lots to do in the surrounding area as well as on the property. Deer walk past every morning and every night. It's quiet and the staff at the office are AWESOME!! Now for why this is 2 stars. The units need an update badly. In our unit someone kicked the door in (its split on in the inside middle) drywall tape is sloughing off a corner almost as if there was a leak there. There is a large 2ft x 2ft hole in the wall that was patched but not sanded or painted. The ceiling fan throws dust bunnies down on you when it runs bc it is never cleaned. (I get it, it's like 2 stories high, but a ladder every few months isn't too much to ask, especially not for what we pay). The knives were probably sharp back in 1982 when they were purchased from the Dollar General, along with the pans that EVERYTHING sticks to.... We arrived AFTER a snowfall, and our porches and steps were NOT shoveled or deiced. I understand the next day was supposed to hit 60 but overnight Temps were 13 degrees and NO ONE EVER CAME TO DEAL WITH THE ICE, so a very slow and careful unload was done. As owners we were "gifted" gold card status for life with our purchase. This year I couldn't log on to the owners website for Massanutten attractions. After a call, we are no longer considered massanutten owners. Now, in order to book things early I have to pay full price instead of being given my GOLD CARD discount and get the refund from the attraction. Also, now we only get discounts on lift tickets and maybe the Waterpark (as of today the manager didn't think that we got a discount). It sucks that the prices for things keep going up here (maintenance fees and RCI memberships) yet they are cutting back on our privileges read more

This place is awesome!!! Check In: Check in was a little farther away from the other check in at Woodstone. It was closer to the golf course. Free cookies and coffee in the waiting area. Jessica, the young lady who checked us in was a little nonchalant about the process and didn't offer much other than the "necessary" info. Anyway, I just want to get my mini vacation started. We got there around 2pm and she made sure to tell us that check in was at 4 unless we receive a call stating otherwise but we still had access to all the facilities. Therefore, we stayed local just in case we got a call. The day we arrived it was a little rainy and cool so a lot of the outdoor activities were cancelled but no big deal because we just rearranged our schedule a bit. We decided to hang out at the indoor pool until 4. Glad we did because because after the 3 hour drive relaxing in the hot tub was just what we needed. We went to pick up our keys at exactly 4pm and Kailey was very helpful. she answered all of our questions, gave us maps and suggestions for things to do and where to go to do them. Stay: We stayed in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom condo perfect for couples who like to vacation together or families. Upon arrival you're given a welcome basket with paper towels, toilet tissue dish washing liquid, brillo pads, plastic cups and trash bags. We were located in unit 70 on Demeret which was an end unit. I loved being on the end unit simply because my only complaint is the amount of steps to walk up to get to the door. Considering we were at an end unit we could easily walk up the grassy area instead of the stairs which made things a little easier (not really). The house was literally a home away from home and it could comfortably sleep 8 people (for the same rate). $20 more per person over 8 people. But that wasn't an issue because it was just 4 of us. 1 room had a King bed the other had a queen, the pullout sofa in the living room slept 2 people with an additional 2 daybeds in the loft. the downstairs bathroom was a full bathroom also equipped with a jacuzzi and a sauna. The kitchen was loaded with everything you would use at home. Dish washer, an electric stove with a stove top grill, blender, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, silverware, pots, pans, glass baking dishes, cookie sheets, meatloaf pan and even a whisk to beat those scrambled eggs in the morning. My only complaint is that I wish they had non-stick pans but I guess that brillo pad isn't in that welcome basket for vanity purposes only. Flat screen wall mounted TV in the living room with cable but only HBO movie channels so I had to watch Power on my phone lol. Dining room table which sat 8 people. The beds and pillows were quite comfortable and the sheets and especially towels and washcloths were of good quality. I usually take my own towels and washcloth anyway. This place will get you in tune with nature real quick. Being a true city girl I thought that would be a problem for me but I actually enjoyed the company of deer literally on my back porch and I actually started to miss them when they weren't there. But the groundhog peaking his head out at me every so often, not so much. Just like everybody else said, it is plenty to do here for everyone but it can get kind of pricey. Prices usually starting around $30 for everything. If you decide not to cook there is a restaurant/lounge on site, a bunch of local eateries in the area and Harrisonburg about 10 miles (20 min) to the right down the road on I81. And if you do decide to cook, if you forget anything there is also a market on site but they are definitely pricey ($4.99 for a dozen of eggs) but there is also a Food Lion about 10 minutes (to the left) down I81. Also note that this resort is massive, 10 miles long and nothing is in walking distance. It gets very dark here too and being the city people that we are, we decided it was best not to go out after the sun went down because we had no desire to fight with wildlife in their territory. But obviously that is an individual decision. Check out: Check out is a little early for my liking; 10 am. Normally that wouldn't be a problem but here at Mountainside they expect you to do their work for them upon checking out and they're very specific about that. YOU MUST wash all dishes or put them in the dishwasher and start it, strip all the bed linens down to the sheets and place them by the front door and remove all trash and put in the dumpster outside. And set the thermostat to a certain temperature. Therefore, all of this must be done well before 10 because the door keys has to be in the rental office by 10 am. If not, you will be charged $50 per hour thereafter. All in all i will definitely return to Massanutten. Mountainside specifically. I would also try Woodstone as well because I heard nothing but good things about them. But Eagle trace or the Hotels, probably not. Already planning my holiday vacation. read more

The mountainside villas are in a great location with access to many facilities and activities. They are very clean and have a lot of amenities. The sauna and hot tub are great after hiking Shenandoah National Park all day. The kitchens are fairly well appointed but could use non stick pans or better frying pans. Some of the beds are lumpy and could use better pillows. The units themselves are comfortable and homey, not fancy and dated, but overall I would give these units a 3.5 stars. read more

Outstanding condo, large kitchen, deer everywhere, plenty of bedrooms, everything in good condition, easy checkin and checkout, beware of phone invitation to a breakfast with $100 in gifts just for taking a survey (yeah, right! -- They try to sell an overprice timeshare.). Wonderful facilities from mini-golf to pool complex. Can you believe: a sauna inside the timeshare! We cannot wait to return. read more
