The ceremony and cocktail hour were held on the first floor and the reception was upstairs (and yes, there are elevators). The only caveat is that there are only bathrooms on the first floor, so we all made multiple up-and-down trips throughout the night. There is also an outdoor terrace on the second floor (unfortunately, the view is... the parking lot) but it was a nice area to chat with other wedding guests on a breezy, late May evening. The dance floor area was a bit small for the amount of guests, but it ended up working out. The dinner was buffet style, and the food was quite good! The strawberry salad was tasty, but maybe a bit too much dressing. The mashed potatoes were very garlicky with the perfect texture (not too smooth, but not too chunky). The steamed vegetables (broccoli and carrots) were seasoned enough to be enjoyable on its own and with the protein. There were three protein options: chicken, salmon, and steak. The chicken had a creamy sauce with a red pepper topping that I didn't love. The salmon was seasoned generously, but it was a bit overcooked. The steak was seared quite nicely, cooked medium, and it was my favorite of all three proteins. Overall, the food was good for a wedding venue. This was a great venue to have a wedding! We all had a great time at Sweeney Barn to celebrate our friends getting married.

This will be our go to hotel from now on. Service was excellent, the room was gorgeous and the facility is very nice. Breakfast was so good each morning we even tipped our breakfast lady because she was amazing!!! High recommend and have you ever stayed at a hotel that had a walk in closet? We had not until now! BONUS!!! The pool is kinda tiny but the gym was nice.

While I considered rounding up for the breakfast offerings, I'm rounding down because I didn't have the restful stay that I was hoping for. Pros: - clean hotel with complimentary continental breakfast - decent breakfast spread - scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, and a protein were served each day. There was pork sausage on one day and bacon on another. There's also a DIY waffle maker, cereal station with a few dispensers, and oatmeal bar with a mix of toppings to add in. On Sunday, there was also French toast sticks (these were dry but you can drown them in syrup). On Monday, instead of French toast sticks, they had hard-boiled eggs and fresh fruit. Both days also had a basket of apples and bananas (the bananas looked much more appealing than the apples). They had a good condiment section (jellies, butter, peanut butter, cream cheese, Nutella, etc.). I also liked that they had salsa and shredded cheese for the eggs. There was also a fridge of milk and yogurt, a juice machine, and coffee and tea station, which included flavored syrups. They do take the coffee away after breakfast, but there is a coffee maker in the room. - room had a microwave and mini fridge, iron and ironing board, and hair dryer. No safe. - fitness center and pool are included amenities. There was also a computer in the lobby for their "business center" - luggage carts were easily available - plenty of parking available - good location near several shops and other shopping areas Cons: - check-in is at 3pm. We came around 4:30 pm and the room (executive suite) was still not ready. They estimated a 45-60 minute wait. We debated unloading the car, sitting in the lobby and waiting, but decided to leave and check out the shops nearby. The hotel didn't offer anything for the inconvenience, only their "apologies." - Super uncomfortable beds! I did not get restful sleep at this hotel. I felt like I was sleeping on a cot (it's not ~ I checked... but you could have fooled me...) - minimal toiletries available. Aside from the body wash, shampoo, and conditioner pumps in the shower, the only toiletries on the counter were one make-up remover wipe and a cleansing bar. No lotion, supplemental facial soap, mouthwash, etc. - water from the water station in the fitness center tasted stale - front desk staff was not super present. Whenever I was in the lobby, the front desk space was often vacant. We didn't have any issues to address, but staff did not seem very accessible The property is nice overall and the facilities are clean. Call it a princess and the pea scenario, but these beds are not for me.

A year later, we're still so disappointed by our experience that we feel obligated to warn other…read morecouples. This venue has the looks of a dream wedding location, but the staff made our big weekend needlessly stressful. Instead of offering solutions, compromises, or showing any concern for reducing our stress, the team repeatedly created more problems, enforced policies with zero empathy, and treated us like an inconvenience rather than valued clients. THE GOOD (briefly): The property is undeniably beautiful--great views, flexible indoor/outdoor setup, and suited our budget. Desiree, the Club's Events Director and our Day-of Coordinator, was the one bright light here. She was kind and communicative leading up to the wedding, but sadly had no authority when it counted. THE BAD (and absolutely unacceptable): 1. Club members come first--brides come last. Despite spending over $40,000 at Evergreen, we were constantly reminded that the country club's paying members were their real priority. We felt like intruders, not celebrated guests. There was no flexibility or understanding--just hard "no" after "no" to simple requests. 2. Hanna the Innkeeper was rude, controlling, and dismissive. We rented the entire Inn to host our closest family and friends. When it started raining after rehearsal, our guests stepped inside to stay dry--only to be aggressively policed by Hanna, who kicked out anyone not staying overnight. She wouldn't even let them use the nearby Clubhouse to wait. Her behavior was rigid, hostile, and completely uncalled for. 3. Rain plan? Total failure. They claimed to have 74 umbrellas ready. We got maybe 20. Guests sat in the rain during our ceremony--something we were told wouldn't happen. Why? Because the rest were stored in a closet anyone at the club could grab from. Worse, Hanna accused our guests of stealing umbrellas. When we asked to check the closet for ones we had brought, she refused. Only when the GM finally stepped in did we find them--mixed in with the venue's. 4. Rushed out the next morning with zero grace. We expected to check out of the Inn by 11am--but were never told when our wedding decor had to be removed from the Clubhouse. As we tried to gather our things, Hanna barged in and demanded we clear everything immediately because of a Mother's Day brunch. No warning, no kindness--just a cold shove out the door. 5. False promises about ADA accommodations. We had a family member with accessibility needs and requested specific support. What we got was an uncompassionate ability to accommodate from Hanna. The beds on the main floor were too high, the showers weren't accessible, and Hanna misrepresented our concerns to management. Only after a personal meeting with the GM did we get a makeshift fix (mattress and box spring on the floor), but they refused to move the frame. The room looked ridiculous--and still wasn't truly accessible. 6. Sneaky pricing changes and unprofessional behavior. Two months before the wedding, the Day-Of Coordinator fee jumped from $250 to $1,000. When we asked for the original price to be honored, the GM responded with an email that seemed like it was for internal eyes only--defensive, condescending, and insulting. The level of disrespect was appalling. After more stress and the in-person meeting, we reached a compromise--but it never should've come to that. 7. Poor day-of coordination. Desiree, though helpful in advance, didn't have much control during the actual event. Between the ceremony and reception, the wedding party had little idea where to go and not much clear guidance. No one was directing the timeline so it was a bit chaotic. You hire a coordinator so you don't have to worry about these things on your wedding day. 8. $600 in wasted donuts thanks to carelessness. We had custom donuts made as take-home favors. Only half were put out (late)--the rest were forgotten back at the Inn at Evergreen. I noticed the number of boxes seemed low, but staff insisted everything was put out. By the end of the night, we were left with $600 worth of untouched, wasted donuts because they didn't bother to double-check. 9. Overcharged for food. The bridal party pre-ordered wraps (which were awful--dry and flavorless) for lunch. The day-of, we added chicken tenders, which were good, but the final bill showed 24 full orders for just two trays. They charged us $216 for a few platters. Ridiculous highway robbery. Seeing the final bill after the wedding, we were so drained, we just paid to be done with them. FINAL THOUGHT: This venue may be beautiful, but the staff, especially Hanna, will not treat you with care, respect, or basic hospitality. If you're not a country club member, expect to be treated like an afterthought. They added stress to every step of our wedding. We deeply regret booking here and strongly advise other couples to look elsewhere. There are beautiful venues out there that actually care about their clients--this is not one of them.

Book Evergreen for your wedding! Seriously, look no further! Desiree is THE BEST wedding planner…read moreever, and she and her staff are EXPERTS in anything you could want! We looked at 9 venues throughout NoVA and VA Beach, to include wineries, chic barns, and special event venues. Evergreen was the CLEAR choice! Not just for its picturesque setting, but you will not believe what is included in any of the wedding packages that you will absolutely not find at other venues. The Bridal Suite alone is to die for! So roomy, beautiful, and with plenty of space, beauty bar, mirrors, and dressing areas for the girls to prepare. The coffee and refreshment service is a MUST, and continually refreshed. Plenty of large dressing rooms, curtains, hooks and rods for hanging, mirrors, lighting, ceiling fans, seating, furry rug...they've thought of everything! The CC itself is fantastic. Club is private, so hubby was sadly not able to play on the epic course. But the restaurant is fantastic, and we had a total of 8 group meals there over the weekend. With the whole-Inn booking, a group breakfast buffet was included on two mornings, and it was fantastic! Other meals have pictures shown. This was 1 month ago, so I may get the actual names of dishes wrong, but you can't go wrong with anything in the menu! Pro Tip: There is a dress code in the CC/restaurant. They were very flexible and accommodating with our out-of-town group who didn't expect that, in our weekends' worth of only jeans, sweats, and actual wedding attire! But we definitely felt out of place among the actual club member clientele. ;-) Seriously... Bride's parents, look no further for your baby's fairy tale wedding! We would do it all again in a heartbeat!
