This week, another technician who repaired the stove pointed out that a plate was not covering the electrical wiring behind the stove's kick plate. So, for four years, my family and I were using a GAS stove with exposed wiring just behind the kick plate. The owner came by today with a "colleague" to "investigate." His colleague admitted that a plate should cover the exposed wiring. Rather than admit this grievous oversight, the owner offered up this absurd explanation: Someone else removed the plate in the four years since the original installation. No one removed the plate. No one. Why would anyone do that? He also claims that he installed a shut off valve. I have asked the TSSA to launch an investigation. Save yourself the risk and trouble my family has unknowingly endured for four years. I urge you to choose another contractor. The owner will no doubt respond to this warning with denials and accusations. You can believe him if you want to but, if you do, you will regret it.

I phoned Shuh's and spoke to Jeffrey Maclean, who arranged to have a repairman go to my friend's home in Guelph to fix his dryer. Jeffrey was totally professional. He took down all the info and told me a repairman would drop by between 9 a.m. and noon. Sure enough the repairman showed up exactly as arranged. He did a great job and fixed the dryer on the spot. The price was VERY reasonable. I highly recommend Shuh's appliance repair service. It is reliable, fairly priced, friendly and professional. Not a word of explanation, no apology, just radio silence. It's heartwarming that they thank me for being a "loyal customer" in their automated emails and text confirmations - unfortunately, all that loyalty has bought me is mounting frustration and lost work hours (I need to take at least four hours off every time they don't show up - which is often). I requested immediately stop charging my Visa for monthly fees and refund the prepaid amount for the upcoming fireplace service - which, statistically speaking, would've likely been cancelled anyway.

The last HVAC person I had out here to look at my AC refused to even look at how it was behaving until he had forced me to listen to his sales spiel for a new unit several times, and then just took a quick look, said it was probably full of mice and left - and charged twice what Jeff did for his "work" when he did nothing. It had no mice either I was told later by someone who was a general handyperson and took the cover off to look inside. His prices were also better than the other plumbers who responded to my quote request. It turned out that the kitchen tap I purchased would not fit (I had a feeling it was not going to work). He removed the old kitchen tap, which was what I was having trouble with, and gave me some tips on how to install the new tap once I found one that fit. He then installed the bathroom tap and provided some other advice relating to the bathroom sink. He did not charge me for the kitchen tap installation. I found a kitchen tap that fit, and it is now installed and working great thanks to John. I will call him if I need any plumbing in the future.
