Free parking is always music to my ears--there's an underground lot with stairs going to the main atrium that has an elevator up to the coworking space. I can imagine how relieving this would be in the midst of snowstorms. Peggy (community manager) greeted me at the front and gave me a brief tour of the space. Nice kitchen space with a Bevi machine (my favorite) and plenty of coffee. First I picked a small table because I was in a 4-hour training and didn't want to disrupt anyone. No electrical outlet nearby. When I came back from an errand, I sat on the couch (outlet here) where the table was too short to be comfortable for my back. It was random that I stayed in Oak Brook because I was in town for an event 20 minutes east. This neighborhood is full of large corporate buildings which felt like a surburban Downtown area. My hotel was less than 10 minutes from Venture X, so I'm grateful this was even an option to get me out of coworking at the hotel or generic coffeeshop!

I left the Venture X Oakbrook office yesterday after a very frustrating experience…read more I work for a non-profit that provides me a desk pass membership for drop-in visits. I typically work from home, but after trying a couple of other drop in locations I found Venture X Oakbrook to be far and away the best option. I've been using it pretty exclusively whenever I'm in the area, and recommending it to my coworkers. The first time I booked the space was December 2022, when I was given a tour of the space and pointed to a series of about 12 desks in an open area to use. Since then, every time I have come I've checked in, gone to the same desk, and had a solid experience. Yesterday I made the mistake of asking the woman at the front desk a question. She dismissed me, telling me she was in a meeting and returning to her computer screen, and when I said I was just looking for information on how to print, she said if I wasn't a member I couldn't print more than a few pages anyway. It wasn't an urgent project, so I gave up and decided I would print somewhere else later. No big deal. A few minutes later, the meeting presumably having ended, this woman tracked me down and greeted me by saying, "You can't be here. These desks are not for you." Completely caught off guard, I explained that not only had a Venture X employee specifically shown me to this spot and directed me to use these desks, but that I have been doing so for a year and a half without any issue. She demanded to know who, and when I said I didn't remember the name but that I thought it was a blonde woman, she told me that was her manager. She went on to tell me that I was wrong anyway, the desks were reserved for other users, and that even though she remembered my face from previous visits and said she believed me, I was limited to using the couch space out front. I would like to point out that the desk I sat down at had a sign on it saying "Available," and that there were zero other people in that work area. I was bothering no one, and costing Venture X nothing. Even if I was incorrect, and the person who showed me to this space gave me the wrong information, there was no reason to be confrontational about it. It felt like I wasn't good enough to use the space, and was both demeaning and infuriating. I have other options, so I just immediately started packing my things and left. I wasn't going to argue with this woman or work unproductively from a couch, as back issues would make that very uncomfortable at best. I asked her to refund the desk pass to my non-profit, since I didn't really use it, and she said okay, but I have no faith that she will follow through on that (and also no way to check, as I am not the account owner). It is extremely regrettable that what had been up till now an outstanding experience with the workspace ended in this way.

Our remote office relationship with Regus Oakbrook Pointe was great, until it was not…read more Things were great when we started. Our team was able to pick up our mail at their convenience between 8:30AM and 5PM M-F and clients were able to do the same with keys which the administrative staff helped us out with as needed/hourly. I resigned a 2 year agreement without hesitation as things were working swimingly. We even spent the extra $$$ to have our logo placed on their door sign. Then... we were told that the door would be locked at this location, so when we arrived to pick up mail or clients arrived to pick up or drop off keys, they were greeted with a locked door and hopefully the administrative staff were at the desk, otherwise they would have to call a phone number posted on the door to get someone to answer the door. While not ideal, not a complete barrier to what we needed. Then... my team would go to pick up the mail or set up/pick up keys and nobody would be there. We received calls from clients stating the same. We even arrived to another Regus client standing outside the door saying that they had been there waiting for an hour to get their mail and she actually talked the cleaning lady into finding the keys to open the "secure mail drawer". Very secure, but we both got our mail, the admin team was still nowhere to be found. Then... we were told there would be "limited administrative support" between Noon and 2PM, and basically we should avoid those hours for mail pick up/anything really. Now this was not ideal at all as when do you think clients or our team has a minute to grab keys or mail? Yep, around lunch time. But we tried to make it work and advised our team and clients to avoid those hours. However these issues continued even around the hours that were advised to be limited support. We got calls around 4:30PM saying the lobby was dark and they were unable to get in. One of my team members waited about 20 minutes around 4PM trying to get a hold of someone only to find them wondering in when she was about to leave saying they had been out watching the eclipse. I reached out to the Oakbrook Team trying to make sure we were working in the fair game hours and eventually contacted corporate to report this as were not getting anywhere with the Oakbrook Team/were told everything was staffed as it should be. While corporate listened to my concerns (and frankly did not seem surprised) we were basically told to work it out with the Oakbrook Team and that all centers should be staffed 8:30AM-5PM M-F. Then we were told by the Oakbrook Team that we would be best to make appointments to pick up mail and keys. At this point the functionality was simply non-existent. At this point we needed to find a solution and ended up leasing a space and requested early termination due to these issues. This was dragged out/ignored/no follow up from October though December unless we checked in and the answer was always, "we are escalating this". It was denied. We finally did get in touch with someone helpful who submitted our early termination request again and actually followed up. She was a new manager at the Oakbrook Center and explained that there was a "realignment of staff" and wanted to work out a solution for the remainder of our term. But at this point, we moved on and she submitted the request. Denied again. If you have an office space at this location I believe you have a key card and 24-hour access and if you book an hourly space they know that appointment is coming... but remote office buyers beware, and good luck grabbing that payroll delivery on Friday when you are trying to squeak in at 4:45PM on a busy day.
