The REI on Northwest Hwy usually has what I want in inventory. I have been to their shoe department 4 times this year and got shoes each time. The shoes sales staff were very friendly and helpful. The register staff have been very quick. Ali helped me with processing my 2 hiking shoe trade-ins. It's a great value that REI has the trade in program for the consumer in trading-in and the buyer of those items that are still in good shape. read more

The first time we went to this store, five years ago, there was a line to get in and they were letting people enter in groups of ten or something like that. Today, five years later, we just walked right in with no line and no assigned groups. My impression in 2025 was much better. The store was not too crowded so we were able to leisurely browse and really take in everything in the store. The selection is outstanding. if they don't have something related to camping or outdoor life, it does not exist. This trip the wife was looking for some shoes while the kid and I looked at everything else. She enjoyed checking out the tents and sleeping bags. She rode on one of the bikes. It was like a play day. I liked that there were employees to help and answer questions. Noah in the bike section was great. Employees were very friendly. The quality of the products they sell is excellent. Prices are high but you get value and what you buy is going to last a while. I don't come to REI often, but when I do I always end up leaving with exactly what I was looking for, if not something better! This held true on my last-minute trip to this location a day before leaving the country for a couple weeks. I wanted a backpack that had enough storage to allow me to take multiple flights between the countries I was visiting and it would fit in smaller overhead luggage spaces. The staff member who approached me was very helpful, showed me myriad options that fit into my specs and never tried to upcharge me. Looking for cotopaxi items, which the have a lot to winter items and regular items in this brand. Good discounts, really got some good deals for our Alaska trip. Staff is always helpful. They carry a lot of the brands that we like, including Kuhl and Patagonia. Some on the discount shelf. Catching these during a sale like we did today is a bonus. A family walked in after me and the only person working the area asked them if they needed help. So I decided to leave bc that made me feel a certain way. So we were in the neighborhood and decided to stop at REI for the heck of it to kill time. I really wasn't looking for new shoes, but once we got in there and saw what they had to offer, I ended up buying two pair, LOL!! We had a phenomenal shoe person named Bethany that just killed it with loads of information about every shoe I had a question on. She not only answered all of our questions but knew exactly what type of shoe I needed and for what activity. I said I needed a new shoe for the gym and bam! found the perfect shoe and perfect fit. Bethany not only knew how to size up your shoe because of how the manufacturer makes their shoes, she knew exactly what I needed for a wider foot. The bottom line is that she was a shoe expert and was exactly what I needed that day. Again, I walked out with two pair of awesome shoes. The second pair I bought were for the looks alone. :) the red laces were just calling out to me, haha! Both shoes are super light and very comfortable. Yesterday, Sunday 25 Feb 2024, was my first time going into the R.E.I. Store on E. Northwest Hwy in Dallas. It's a beautiful store. I had been researching water bottles online, comparing different brands, features, etc. I lucked out and had Noah help me with making my final selection. He was very knowledgeable and kind. We decided on the HydroFlask in the color "Fir" with a twist off cap and a black bottom to tie it all together. I'd just come from a funeral, and it was pretty good of him to take time to explain the differences between Stanley, Yeti and my final selection. He delivered great service. The R.E.I. Store is very nice, with a lot of great options for those who enjoy the outdoors. I joined up as a member, a $30.00 purchase that is given back in the form of a $30.00 credit towards my next purchase! So, essentially, the membership is a huge value!. The gentleman who rang me up was equally helpful, he was mid-aged but looked very fit and the entire experience was very nice. A+ Service! Next time, I'll buy a new pair of Hoka's there! read more

I went to the Fort Worth location to get my father-in-law's yearly Christmas gift and I had purchased a gift card online and printed it out and I wanted to get him the pretty gift card that they have at their store locations. So I took my pretty gift card up to the register and I took all of my merchandise to check out. After the lady explained to me that I needed to become a member and all the cool benefits that it would give me I politely declined and then I asked her to give me the pretty gift card because this is a Christmas present. she promptly got the manager. The manager said I'll take over from here because apparently they treated me as if I was a problem. OK fine no pretty gift card. Can I please just check out with the other things that I've picked out? Once I checked out, she hand me all of my items without putting them in a bag WTH. It's Christmas. This is a newer REI. Original location was 4515 LBJ Fwy, Dallas location. It is well stocked. Orderly and matches my favorite REI in Saratoga back in Cali as far as carrying most of what I need. Tons of parking. Impressive array of bikes and backpacks. They also carry a good amount of XS Smart Wool pullovers. I was very happy with this! My future purchase with REI is a mobile sleeping bag. It's the sleeping bag with a toe box where you can stash the bottom part of your bag so you can walk around. Holes for your arms to stick out. I am a big REI fan and supporter. Their return policy is unparalleled anywhere else. This works very well for my shoe purchase! My feet has gone through size changes. From 6.5-8 with my hiking boots and shoes. If not because of REI's awesome return/policy I would've shelled out money for a shoe size that doesn't work for me anymore. If you are a backpacker or at least hike I'm sure you bought your gear and a few more. It's not cheap! If you bought it somewhere else you can't return or exchange it for the life of your cramped feet. Thanks REI! You rock! read more

This place rocks and has really made a huge improvement from how it used to be. It's definitely not a Seattle or Denver Mega REI, but it's got friendly staff and a somewhat decent stock of materials. Given the current boom of outdoor recreational sports due to Covid, inventory flies off the shelves pretty quickly for hot items. If you're looking for specific apparel I'd recommend fitting in-store and then purchasing through REI online. The staff is very friendly and easy to talk to. They're not rude and are very assistive in making sure I get my cycling/hiking needs met. The staff really makes this place seem alive. Getting to it however can be difficult so add an extra 15min or so to your trip due to Dallas traffic. I've spent over $300 dollars at this location and I'd honestly recommend coming here if you're a beginner and are looking to purchase your 1st equipment!! read more

Online ordered a brand new full price Wilderness Kayak Pungo from this location, got the kayak home to find very large gouges in the kayak, contacted store manager and they claimed they would check other stock and they laughed when I kindly asked giving some money back to avoid an hour drive back to the store...even though they admitted it would probably just be put in the garage sale pile. Walked all the way to the back of the store, saw that cycling shoes weren't with the rest of the shoes, and walked all the way back to the front of the store without a single employee asking if I needed help (which I did). Once in the cycling area, I actually had to go hunt down an employee for help. Despite being found in the cycling section, she was confused by my question about cycling shoe sizes and flagged down another employee (also in the cycling section) to answer the question. Except...he couldn't answer the question either. Furthermore, neither one of them knew what sort of fit I should look for in a cycling shoe. Didn't matter too much since they only had a couple women's road cycling shoes in the store in the first place. One of the employees vanished pretty quickly, and the other one only lingered long enough to ask if I was a "co-op member" and put the hard sell on "joining the co-op," then vanished as soon as she'd written her name as the "reference" on some card about the "co-op." Look, it's a rewards program of sorts, not a "co-op." Having lived in California for several years and knowing some people who lived in ACTUAL co-ops, I feel like they would be offended by REI's capitalistic use of this term...ha. Personally, I'm not offended, but I find it a little amusing/silly. Oh, and the shoes were $10 cheaper on Amazon...but I actually ended up getting a different kind entirely (on Amazon) because the ridiculously limited selection of women's cycling shoes at REI didn't include the one I wanted. read more

I came to find out that the pair was hidden and lucky for me, it was my size! This review is about REI's curbside pickup service during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though Governor Abbott is (foolishly) letting businesses open before it's really safe to do so, REI is keeping its stores shipping and curbside pickup only to protect the public and their employees. I placed a small curbside pickup order, and it was ready really quickly. The employee will bring it out to your car, and you show your ID through the closed window so they can verify that the right person is picking up the order. You can then pop the trunk and they'll place it right in your car. If, like me, you have a car with a trunk that doesn't automatically pop or open, you'll get out of the car and grab the bag from a sanitized cart while the employee stands back at a safe distance; employees aren't allowed to open trunks themselves. This taking care of their employees is admirable. REI has a reputation for being an upstanding and ethical company, and this carefulness helps cement this good reputation. read more

Sorry REI, but you failed as a store compared to the other REI's I shop. Most REI's have staff buzzing about in each department ready to answer questions, offer suggestions, or simply tell a passing customer hello. That's most REI's. This isn't one of those. While there was an ample amount of staff about the store, not a one greeted either of us as we passed. And when we encountered two associates standing in the aisle chatting, we had to reroute around them to get to the products behind where they were standing. Another failure of this shiny new store are all the security locks on a number of items. I'll admit, the store borders an area that isn't that nice. But the security locks seemed excessive. We had come in to look for solar chargers for out backpacks. But the locks prevented us from taking them off the peg and reading the specs on the back of the packaging. A few of the chargers did have front panels that opened and revealed the product and more info, but the larger models had yet another security device on the box with it's anchoring straps wrapping it firmly closed, much like the ribbon on a gift. This is a time where one of those non-helpful associates would have been handy. Though we never found one and finally gave up. If you're just visiting the Dallas area, don't waste your time here, shop your local REI when you get home. And if you live here, well, make a trip to one of the two REI's in Houston or just shop online. read more

They went out of their way to help me and got them fixed in a few days despite being so busy. They went above and beyond to help me and saved me a lot of money in the long run! My experience at this store was not really good. They do have a good collection. While being in the store i had my eye on a jacket but they didn't have my size. I waited for about ten minutes to ask for someone but i was just ignored. I had to go to the counter and some ladies help me at the cashier they were helpful. I went back to meet up with the person they call in to bring out the jackets. They had three in the back and finally put them on display. After i went to purchase my jacket they guy in the counter was friendly to everybody but me. He had a negative reaction after making my purchase he threw the receipt at me. Also just stuffed my jacket in bag nearly ripping the bag and throwing it at me. If it wasn't for me catching it, it would have fallen on the floor. I also feel the store should be diverse. So in conclusion, I did not feel comfortable shopping at this REI store. read more
