Fields are surrounded by fencing. Restrooms did not seem to be maintained throughout the day so as the day wore on, and more people were using it, it was a mess - no toilet paper, dirty messy floors, a couple of toilets needing maintenance. Not pleasant at all. There's only one restroom building and for our tournament, there was always a line at the women's restroom. Parking was horrendous. For any other regular event, there's probably enough parking but for this tournament it filled up quickly by 8am and people were starting to park in the grass. The Park officials announced during the tournament that anyone parking on the grass will be towed. They did suggest other parking areas on a gravel path that were still pretty limited. If you're there for a big event, just get there early enough to park.

The park has a recreation center (at least that was closed), the adult baseball/softball field, two smaller softball fields and a playground structure. The large field has a dugout, backstop and bleachers as well as a ten foot fence to protect spectators from foul balls. There is a medium sized parking lot which was completely full today. Other than that, there are two outdoor basketball courts, six lighted tennis courts, a volleyball court, a lighted baseball field, picnic shelters with grills and a nature trail. The shelters are reservable. There is also the separate Sugar Creek Recreation Center that has restrooms. Unfortunately, the entire park is closed right now because of the pandemic. Learned while there that it's the first African American park in Charlotte. We easily found covered seating with a table not far from a basketball court and pickle ball court with games in play. We were also near restrooms which I meant to check out but from the outside the building looked new and well kept. Weather was nice out, park was not crowded. I saw a sign advertising music in the evenings every 4th Saturday. There's an amphitheater near the front of the park. We'll probably be back to check out the music. Really nice park!

Larger park in Southwest Charlotte, Thomas McAlister Winget Park was dedicated on October 15, 2000…read more It was named after Thomas McAllister Winget who died along with three other Olympic High School students in an automobile accident on May 17, 1969. Today, the park boasts basketball courts, trails, three restrooms, picnic shelters with grills, a softball field, a disc golf course and a number of volleyball fields. The picnic shelters can be reserved. Buried at the back end of a residential neighborhood, it is not located near any main roads or even a decent secondary. I guess that is why it's as quiet as it is.
