Low quality workmanship, it's like watching a circus catch on fire when these guys are on the job.

I have some colorful words for them. The people at Brda Solar who actually did the work? I could write a book about how pleased we are with their work, their professionalism, their abilities to take a poor situation and make it work, their dedication to getting the job done and done right. I only wish we would have known about them and contracted directly with them. From Lauren in the office to Joe, Francisco, Jeremiah, and a couple of other guys who (I am sorry that names escape me) who were all a part of this project at our home, we thank you so much for not only doing the work, but passively calming me down when I would see your truck pull up in our driveway. Joe and Francisco especially went above and beyond with amazingly great attitudes on Christmas Eve. That they even had to work that day pissed me off, but they and their people in the office were dedicated to get this project in service before the end of the year. I would never have expected anyone to work on Christmas Eve. I am grateful that they did. I have already told many people about our unacceptable experience with our contractor, and have dropped the BRDA name more as the people to take care of their solar projects as well as any other electrical needs they may have. My husband and I both agree that we will be calling Brda for any of our electrical needs in the future simply because of the overall expertise their Solar group brought to this project. Thank you, Thank you. Thank you. (Told you I could write a book...)

I had a survey appointment scheduled for 8am or some time after with intent to install eight light fixtures with alumni-con connectors. Their technician arrived exactly at 10am, 2 hours after my expectation, and something most people would agree was already late. While I was advised in advance that the technician may not be there right at 8am, and their office did call me to say Shane their tech was running late, consider how precious time is to a customer, and especially for a customer who has to take a day off from work for the scheduled inspection and potential iob. I am a retired service member who spent 22 years showing up to work daily on time. Timeliness is the hallmark of an effective organization and is what traditionally has made this country great. It is a major turnoff for me to be 2 hours late. I was also expecting the job to be fulfilled same day as I reasonably believe most proficient electricians could get my job of 8 fixtures done in a day if they showed up early. I even offered to help take down the light fixtures if that would make the job go by faster. I was told by Shane, their technician, BRDA would most likely have to come back another day to complete the job. In addition, they wanted over $3,000 to change 8 light fixtures, which did include relocating two bathroom fixtures by about two feet, which i consider high. I was previously quoted $940 for the same job by another certified electrician m. The cost for the Brda survey was $99 which is reasonable, but the guy spent no more than 40 mins at my place and didn't do anything except take a few pics and make what I feel is an overpriced survey. The previous $940 quote I received from another company was given for free. This aside, Shane was professional and friendly and so was Jason and Erica. Be on time, I cannot stress how much people value this. Based on the late arrival and their high price, I declined their services and admit my experience may be a one off given all the other great reviews . However, a customer does have to wonder how one licensed company can quote $940 and another licensed company quotes the same work for over $3k, a 2k difference! I did my own math on this. A $3,000 quote breaks down to approximately $350 in parts and $2,650 in labor, implying an effective rate of $220-$330 per hour. Ridiculous pricing!

Simple enough - cut a hole in the drywall next to the stud, hang a single gang box, connect the power wires that are already in the wall one foot away, splice and cap, push it back in and done. Hour job, max. Ground floor, tile floor, easy peasy. Price? Well, that will be a "minimum charge" of $225. What? Really? Go back to Yelp and Next Door. Read all the reviews - hmm, Dwell Electric. Oh wait, I know Jason B, and it's his dad, and they are good people. Check that box. So I call and get Paul on the line. He's in the middle of a job, so he asks to call me back. He does. He can be over not tomorrow, but Wednesday. Does that work? Of course it does. 1pm? Perfect. Paul shows up 15 minutes early. Gets greeted by two large German Shepherds, whom he loves and pets and who follow him like trained assistants. Takes a look, says yes, easy job to do. Price? $125 - perfect. Let's go. Opens the wall - wait, their are wires but they aren't hot. What? Checks all the breakers and panels. Hmmm. Apparently when the house was built no one bothered to connect the power for all the 'direct connect central vacuum lines". Darn. That explains why the direct connect wouldn't work and why I'm having an extra outlet installed....Oh well - Paul's like, let's just connect power from over "here" (light switches) in the wall and do some extra work and wiring and maneuvering - ok, no problem, let me know if the cost goes up...Nope. No worries. Job completed in 30 minutes tops. Looks great. Still $125. Paul is an honest business person who charges a fair price and can handle anything from outlets to can lighting installation to complete home projects. He works almost exclusively in the Encinitas - Carlsbad area, so he's local and available and has two other guys just like him at Dwell. Give them a call and you'll be glad you did. I guarantee it, and so do my dogs.
