Driving around Texas eating BBQ on the Texas Monthly Top 50 list. After driving all day on Friday from Houston to Lubbock TX we knew we had to find the energy to go eat at Rejino Barbeque in Olton Tx. Olton is a nice 45 minute drive from Lubbock so check their social media accounts to make sure they have food before you go. We arrived hungry and found a short line. They have plenty of parking in the lot and street available. The wait in line gave us the opportunity to view the menu and plan our order. We got brisket, sausage, pork sliders and 1 catfish fillet. They have inside and covered screened outdoor sitting. You place your order and pay and they bring you the tray of food. Let me tell you that all the food here is delicious. The fillet of catfish was served with hush puppies and tartar sauce, it is the BEST catfish I have ever had!! The brisket was moist with a great smoke ring. The sausage was nice and yummy. The pork sliders looked good and tasted delicious. Everything here was delicious and fresh even though it was around 7pm on Friday. The people that work here also are some of the best people you will ever meet. They represent Texas BBQ at the best. I highly recommend that you make a trip to Rejino Barbeque as the people and food are worth the drive. read more

In all honestly if they were on a main drag in Amarillo, or even closer to Hwy 27 this place would be in the top 10. Beef rib superb flavor, seasoning! Bbq sauce on the side simple and flavorful. Sides were an after thought and typical. Corn bread though... damn that's legit great cornbread in any category. Can't complain about anything I tried. Will return and so should you. Rejino's BBQ is worth the trip and a revisit in the future! My family enjoys hunting for great Texas BBQ. We have completed the 2017 and 2021 TX Monthly Top 50 BBQ list. We started the 2025 list and we are more than half-way through the list as of June 2026. Heading to the spots in West Texas takes some logistical planning, patience, and lots of gas for the drive from the Texas Gulf Coast. On our recent BBQ quest to West Texas, my family stopped at Rejino's BBQ in Olton. This was our second time to visit Rejino's. I'm a Texas Trinity traditionalist. So we always order the brisket, ribs, and sausage. The brisket was amazing- great bark, nice smoke ring, well seasoned, and very moist. Ribs were excellent - smokey sweet and moist. We got the Rejino's Regular sausage which was deliciously juicy and had a nice snap to the casing. We also had the Pulled Pork Sliders and the Catfish purely because they looked amazing as we were waiting in line. Sliders were tasty. The Catfish is worth it and amazing value - large filet, super crispy crust that is well seasoned (slight hint of cayenne), moist and flaky fish. Hands down - the best Catfish we all agreed. We were feeling a bit carnivore-ish, but we broke down and had to try the Green Chile Cream Corn. Get it, you won't be disappointed. The restaurant is quaint, warm, and inviting. We arrived about 45 minutes before they closed and I observed a full restaurant and so many people shaking hands with their neighbors it just felt good to be there. Parking is easy. The staff took good care of us and were still in good spirits before closing. This is the second time we visited Rejino's BBQ. The first time was a BBQ truck and in 2023 they were able to move into their brick and mortar spot. The have a lot of good things going on at the new spot which have amped their game. What goes on in Olton, Texas? A simple drive through tells you not much. However, this small town boasts a Texas Monthly Top 50 barbecue spot, so if you are like me and trying to get stamps on the passport, you inevitably have to make the drive. Funnily enough, it is both the northernmost and westernmost spot on the list, so everywhere after this is quite literally downhill from here. We drove in on a Friday and arrived just before 1:30 pm, which is a sin at most barbecue joints. Rejino, however, only had a small line and still a full menu while being pretty busy. They were excited to add a stamp to my book and even gave me a free Rejino sticker to take with me. I love places that go the extra step. One thing I want to note right away is how affordable their barbecue is compared to most places. The Texas Trinity fed both my girlfriend and me and came in around forty dollars, with half pounds of ribs and brisket, a sausage link, and a side. My girlfriend and I ordered their Texas Trinity, two sides, and a dessert. I will share my thoughts on everything below. Brisket: It was well done. There was good flavor throughout and the slices were nicely cut. The balance between the lean and fatty parts was exactly what you would expect and on par with others on the list. Pork Ribs: My girlfriend loves a pork rib and she really enjoyed these. In terms of tenderness and candying, they landed right in the middle. The meat did not fall off the bone, but it was still excellent. The bark was well seasoned. Jalapeño Cheese Sausage: Compared to most joints, their sausages were shorter but thicker. The jalapeños actually had a crunch, which was surprising. I really enjoyed this sausage. Baked Potato Casserole: I thought this was a great side and a solid portion for five dollars. Bacon White Cheddar Mac and Cheese: My girlfriend said this was her favorite style of mac and cheese, extremely creamy. I thought it was good, but I let her eat most of it since she liked it so much. Broccoli Cheddar Cornbread: Unlike most barbecue joints, the cornbread here was free. I really liked the hints of cheese and the broccoli pieces mixed throughout. M&Ms Brownie: I sometimes get dessert at a barbecue joint. When I am with my girlfriend, that percentage jumps to always. Here we ordered a massive M&Ms fudge brownie. The M&Ms were intentionally stale, so instead of being crunchy they were chewy on top of the brownie. It reminded me of a Cosmic Brownie. In Texas, there are smoke cathedrals everywhere for those willing to look, and places like Rejino make stops in small towns completely worth it. Be sure and call before you make the drive. Yelp, Texas Monthly, and Apple Maps all say this place is open on Mondays. I was in Snyder Texas for a couple of days and had some time to explore. I drove the 2-3 hours out to this top 50 BBQ spot only to discover only their "market" was open. And their market doesn't even sell any BBQ. read more

This may be one of the greatest jewel finds I've ever had. In a small town between Amarillo and Lubbock. I always find it interesting in these really small Texas towns to have a 5 Lane Main St. Did they used to have cattle drives down these roads or something? Actually, I had to go out of my way probably 45 minutes but oh my what a find. Especially for the value. Check that, regardless of value or not. This was supposed to be a quick light tasting as I had already had a big lunch and was headed towards a big supper. But when I tasted the food, I had to eat every bite. So good. They've been listed on Texas monthly top 50 and we're started as a food truck my owners, Aaron and Christina. Unfortunately, I found out. Christina passed away at the beginning of this year. I spoke with the niece who has the new general manager. In order to try three meats, I got the Texas Trinity platter. Brisket was exactly what you would hope for. The perfect bar, the perfect moist, just the right saltines and pepper. Melts in your mouth.9.5 Pork ribs 8.9 were way better than you find at most places. I love all the things they put in the bark. Maybe could've been a tad more tender, but I arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon. Homemade sausage 9.7 was the bomb. I opted for the regular instead of jalapeño cheese. It's a mix of brisket and pork. Even though they sliced it, you could tell the snap was fantastic. One of the best sausages I've ever had and even better with a little bit of their house sauce 9. A word on the value. My platter was $25 and I got as much or more as compared with some of the top end places. It included two sides, a drink and bread. Green chili cream corn 9 was fantastic. Just right with the touch of sweetness. I opted not to upgrade it to Mexican street corn which he said they just add cheese and jalapeño. The baked potato salad 7.7 was what you would expect. Pieces of bacon and cheese mixed in and warm. Super. Only wish I could've tried the burnt ends. They also have a small market attached to the place where you can buy pre-prepared foods, drinks, and other small grocery items. I love it. Overall, I love the location, I love the feel, the people were super nice, the value was unmatched. I will send as many people here as I can, and hope to come back. read more

At Rejino's Barbeque you will find a fantastic selection of Traditional Texas Barbeque. Brisket, burnt ends, pork spare ribs, craft sausages, bone in half chickens, jalapeño poppers and many other protein options that vary daily like chicken fried steak. I sampled everything they had. Everything was great...down to the sides! I loved the potato cheese bomb casserole and the pinto beans.  Aaron gave me a tour of his operation where he uses multiple 1000 gallon tank smokers to produce all his artisan barbeque. He also included some insider cool stuff like his butcher room where the trim meat and make sausage. Brisket: tender and juicy with a light oak flavor and salt/pepper perfectly balanced. Pork Ribs: spare cut cooked with great seasoning and gentle bite with just enough texture to chew but not mushy... very well executed Sausage: very well seasoned, smoked and perfectly emulsified craft sausages one of the top 3 I have eaten.  Jalapeño Poppers: one of Rejino's trademark items and they did not disappoint.  I will be heading back down there soon! read more

This is an awesome place to eat that's off the beaten path. Where that path is - you need to take it! Great food, great place to eat, great staff. What else is there? Came at 11:55am on a beautiful weekend and the seating was packed. They ran thru people quick! When I strolled up, only one couple ahead of me in line. Score! I had the 4 meat sampler. Ribs were very good, nothing too fancy. The brisket was just killer!! Didn't need sauce, but I would have bought a bottle of the stuff. The pulled pork was some of the best in Texas. Finally, the cheddar jack, jalalpeno sausage was spot on. Also tried the Texas Twinkie. Basically a jalapeno popper with brisket. Quite tasty. For sides, had the creamed corn. Unfortunately (or fortunately?) it was over full and practically exploded when opened. It was very fresh though and tasty. Potato salad was "ordinary". I almost laughed. Made a special trip to Olton on our way to Palo Duro to stop and try the newest addition to the Texas Monthly Top 50. I've eaten at nearly 15 locations on the list and I have to say Rejino definitely deserves a place on this list! I just want to say I give instant credit to anyone serving such high quality que out of a food truck! Anyone that smokes meat knows it's hard to do and stay consistent. I also want to give a quick nod to the amazing customer service. Talked with a lot of the crew at Rejino and they are all amazing people. I wish them nothing but massive success. Now for the food. The brisket had a very good bark and a super decent smoke ring. My only note on the brisket is I didn't get a lot of the smoke flavor in the actual meat. Eating the meat with the bark helped some but on its own it leaned more towards pot roast. But it was super hot moist and juicy. Enough for another attempt for me some day! I think the pulled pork was pretty out of sight. I definitely tasted smoke on the pork and it was moist but not sopping wet (which I hate). Great job on that. My ribs were phenomenal. I keep saying it over and over, I think Texas does ribs better brisket. Over and over I keep noticing how much better the ribs are in all the bbq joints lately and I'm not even a rib guy, maybe I am now ‍. Saved the best for last. The Jalapeño. Cheddar. Sausage. Never heard of this restaurant until they got featured in a Texas online magazine. So we went there and found these long line of people, found out they just opened or moved to that place. We had the ribs and pork belly burnt ends for meat, and green chili cream corn which is actually real good. The only thing is that the meat was kind of dry, but it could just be something they overlooked given it was the first week in that new location. We'll try it again soon. read more

Outstanding service, bbq, and sides. Our family tried the brisket, ribs, turkey, and sausage. All were excellent--well-smoked, good bark, tender, but not falling apart. For our sides, we had the beans, corn, baked potato, potato salad, and macaroni and cheese. All of us loved the beans, the corn, and the baked potato. We found the potato salad good, not great. None of us cared for the macaroni and cheese, which had a good flavor but was unbalanced--much more sauce than pasta. Still, a great experience, great food, great people.
