The brisket was incredible and had the best bark! We went on George Strait Saturday at lunchtime. The manager said she had been there 13 years along with another staffer, and neither had seen a line like we experienced on Saturday. The wait was a little crazy and the staff was clearly out of their element with the booming crowd, but at the end of the day, the food spoke for itself! I'm a 9th gen Texan and love my BBQ. This was the sh*t! It was some of the best brisket I've ever had, seriously. Now people will say, "what place has the best BBQ?" My immediate thought is "clearly they've never had BBQ! As there's literally no place on earth with the best BBQ." If you've eaten your fair share then you know that's a trick question. The better question is, "who has the best brisket, or ribs, or nanner puddin, or whatever." Some places are great and others suck, but no one is the best at all of it. They may be above average or even exceptional, but they will still be better at one meat than another. We had brisket, turkey, beef rib, pulled pork, mild sausage and jalepeno, along with some brisket deviled eggs. Dude! If it were Cajun food, you'd have to slap yo mama. Fortunately it's BBQ so we loosen our belt strap and when we can't eat another bite, we grab the biggest spoon we can find and eat some nanner puddin. It was solid. For sides we had potato salad, cole slaw, mac n cheese and collard greens. Personally, my favorite was the mac n cheese as it was creamy and tasted great, but my friends from Oregon were in TX for the first time and while she had never had collard greens, she couldn't get enough of them and literally went back for thirds. The review is not about the food. The food is great. This is about waiting a super long time in line just to order, when there were other people who could help take orders. Then taking forever to get the food. From standing in line to finally leaving, it was 50 minutes. And it wasn't just me. When we get home, food looks great, but *again* the sides are half full. We spend almost $100 every time we come in there, Scott, and there's no reason not to fill up the containers. It's a rip off. read more

Super service. Pitti was friendly and attentive. Originally we were going to get our food to go then we saw the patio. It was a little dusty but we had Huckleberry with us and he could join us. Our waitress was very nice. She made a special effort to bring water for Huck. Our food was great! I had the chopped brisket with collard greens and coleslaw. The brisket was moist and flavorful. The greens were spicy. The slaw was crunchy. Hubby had the sliced brisket and jalapeño cheddar sausage with beans and slaw. His brisket tender and moist and very tasty. The sausage was good but it didn't have much heat. The beans were spicy and the slaw was good. The serving sizes were generous. We also got spicy pickles. This may be some of the best BBQ I've ever eaten. No joke, I'm from Texas, and had many friends in BBQ competition, so I've tasted a lot. We were here for family weekend and loved so much about The Shack BBQ. The beef ribs were a great surprise. Most beef ribs are a little tough. These dinosaur size ~3 pounders were stunningly tender and juicy to the core. The plate had two sides with it and the Mac and cheese was off the hook rich and cheesy. The loaded baked potato salad was perfection! The collard greens were the best we've ever had and the leaves were not as chopped as most and it had a little kick of heat built in. The turkey was moist and the Jalapeño sausage was remarkably good! It was a great atmosphere for a Texas BBQ place and well worth driving outside the ring. My hat goes off to other Yelpers who complemented this stunning BBQ and drew us in! The service was exceptional and it was an all-around great meal! One funny bit was our nephew, who is a freshman at Tech got a small side of ranch and on his first taste, his eyes shot open and mouth gaped and he yelled that's a very hot ranch dressing!! Later, we asked Brandy the owner about it, and she said they must have grabbed the "flaming A## ranch by mistake" they are marked FA, but right beside the normal ranch in the cooler. Really good barbeque! For my family's 4th of July meal today, we ordered pork ribs dinners with loaded potato salad, mac & cheese, and collard greens for side dishes plus 1/2 lb of brisket. While the ribs, brisket and greens were super yummy, the other sides were not. The potato salad was just mushed up potatoes with a bland dressing, no bacon, onions or cheese which usually makes potatoes loaded. The mac & cheese was mushy and gross. 4 stars for the protein, minus 1 star for the disappointing sides. read more

Dropped in Saturday morning about 11:30. Fairly busy but not covered up. Ordered a plate with turkey, pork ribs, traditional tater salad and pinto beans from the nice lady at the register. Grabbed an unsweet tea and a bottle of their "Extreme Sauce" and snagged a table. My chow arrived in less than five minutes. Oustanding ribs and a generous portion. Pretty sure there was a little brown sugar in the rub, hardly a sugar bomb, but just enough to enhance the natural sweetness of the pork. Perfectly smoked ribs. Not chewy, but not falling off the bone either. Perfect. Turkey was just fine, and it meshed well with the sauce. Speaking of which, don't be scared by the name. It is extremely good, not extremely hot. Kind of an orange color, so I'm guessing there's a little mustard in it. May be Carolina style, and if so it would probably be great with pulled pork. The beans were superb. Plenty of black pepper and chili powder, and made smoky by a few dabs of brisket. Tater salad had great flavor. Just the right amount of mustard. Not too intense, but you knew it was there. A slight niggle--a bit too much celery for my liking. As for the the atmosphere, the tables and chairs were comfortable. Kind of dark inside. Almost reminded me of being in a log cabin. KLLL country station on the radio. They'd be better off just creating their own play list of pre-1990s classic country music. No irritating commercials thataway. Recently I went to Rejino BBQ in Olton and gave it a very positive revue. Well I've got to say The Shack doesn't take a back seat to Rejino. I seriously hate to give bad reviews... It hurts my heart in a way, but I do have to be honest. I've been wanting to go here for a while and so has my husband. I will start with the bright spots... The women at the register were supremely helpful and sweet, the ice tea was very good, the pinto beans were nice, and my husband really enjoyed his sliced brisket. Now onto the "other" part of this review---I will say for the amount of food you get here, it is extremely overpriced (I had the 1 meat plate, he had the 2 meat plate, and we each had an iced tea-- $42), especially when you compare the prices to other barbecue restaurants and portion sizes here in Lubbock. My chicken breast was completely dried out and the collard greens tasted like they were coated in salted chicken paste and tomato sauce (truly unlike any collards I've ever had). My husband barely touched the potato salad or macaroni and cheese... he also didn't comment really, so whatever that means? THE BEEF RIBZ!!! OMG!!!!!! Never have I ever had beef ribs so tender and rich. They just melt and covered in a dense crust of flavor. It was almost like a brisket. Only have them on sat/sun. The loaded potato salad was great too. Our sliced juicy cut brisket was dry and chewy though. That made us kinda sad. The sausage was good. The regular potato salad was just average. Wanted to try the banana pudding but they sold out already at 1:00. Staff was kind and friendly. The five stars is really just for the beef ribs. Best I've ever had. read more
