Great car selection from their Emeral Isle, but this location doesn't use the Emerald Isle, rather there's a booth in the garage where you need to wait in line for someone to give a car. I find this very inconvenient, but it is what it is. Car selection here was adequate, not the best. Service was nice and friendly, both on pickup and checking back in. Overall, I'd most definitely return to rent from National, but this isn't my favorite location.

I walked to the counter inside of the airport where Bryce assisted with my rental check in. He was very friendly and helpful throughout the entire process. He definitely made the check in seamless and put me in a Toyota Camry hybrid which was super nice and great on gas. The check out process was seamless and easy as well. Zero issues or complaints!

I asked for another car, something smaller, but that was all they had. The nice lady at the counter gave a number to call the next day if I wanted to change cars. I called the number the next day, told them I wanted something smaller. She said to just come to the Airport to switch cars. I asked do I need to fill it up or anything, she said no. So I went to the lot, parked the minivan, talked to the same lady that I talked on the phone, I gave her my keys, she gave the keys to a car. She asked is a Nissan Sentra ok, I said perfect. No paperwork, zero fuss, the whole interaction only took a few minutes!! I never would have thought it would be that easy!! As I approached the service counter I noticed that the same young lady was on duty. OK let's see what happens today. Completely different experience paper work and car were ready, in fact she handed the keys to me so I wouldn't have to wait. She also remembered me and addressed me by name. Maybe she had a heads up that I was coming but the service was much appreciated. Even upgraded my car without asking. Later in the day I got a call from the manager making sure everything was good. It was. But and this is a big but. When I got my car there was only one other car in the lot and there were four people on line after me. Do the math. I don't want to jump to conclusions but unless there were more cars on the way in this looked like a potential problem. I hope it wasn't and Dollar Car Rental of Syracuse has their act together. LAST EXPERIENCE: Let me start by saying that I have been a loyal member of the Dollar Car Rental club for over a decade. I rent several times a year and am always happy with them. So what happened to Dollar Rent. Car in Syracuse, NY. Last week I reserved a car for Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. I scheduled the pick up for 9:30 so I'd have plenty of time to get to a meeting. At 9:50 I'm at the counter. Most Dollar Car Rental offices have a setup for members. It's very simple: You go to the booth see your name and go to the designated space where your car and paper work is waiting and away you go. A little different in Syracuse. First the young lady had know clue about how this works. Apparently Syracuse does not use this system. OK fine. Now she starts trying to up sell me. Luxury car? No thanks. Insurance? No thanks. EZ pass? No thanks. And on and on. I finally explain that I made all these choices when I reserved the car so why are we going over this again? OK so see shows me my estimated bill which is several dollars more than I was quoted. Turns out she decided I should buy Roadside Service. Now I'm getting annoyed. If your car breaks down I'm calling you not an independent roadside service. Just show me my car. Oh it's waiting for you in the lot. Well I get there and wait 30 minutes and no car. All I keep hearing is it will be here in a minute. 40 minutes later they bring my car. Finally on my way. Just outside the airport a warning signal comes on telling me tires are low on air. Fortunately I'm now in front of their repair center. Another 15 minutes and I'm back on my way. I will continue to use Dollar Car Rental, but never in Syracuse again.

The car I rented was only one year old, but somehow falling apart as the passenger seat was unadjustable and then rear view mirror fell off after hitting one of those lovely NYC potholes. (Open lot parking at the airport is $8 per, I assume also plus tax, but not sure.) In any case, it doesn't matter. I might be willing to pay MORE than the Airport price for the simple fact that after flying into SYR at 11 pm after a 10-day trip and a 17-hour journey, I DIDN'T have to brush off my car, de-ice my car, and cross my fingers that my car would start. Working with Americar was simple and straight forward. I didn't have to wait long for the shuttle on either departure day or arrival day. Staff were all friendly, and one gave me a heads-up that my reverse lights were out when I picked up the car. Recommended, particularly in the winter.

Waited in the line for a while, one person worked the airport desk for Hertz? The Hertz CSR stated my reservation was cancelled? I have no conformation concerning? No answers regarding? I called local Hertz concerning, no answer after numerous calls. I was told NO cars are available in the airport and vicinity due to a national car show event. How to get where I was going now? I called Hertz 1-800 to find same answer but no documentation concerning cancellation? Hertz in general had little empathy, did not assist and provided no information regarding the cancellation transaction? What seemed to prevail was that Hertz over booked due to the large regional event taking place and had no real plan regarding. I tried for two hours to remedy this situation to no avail. I hope I am never treated with such indignity again, sad display of customer service. Stranded now at SYR with no remedy, I finally took an Uber to Syracuse Amtrack, caught a train to Utica (1 hour away) by luck and Ubered to my hotel and beyond now for the day. Enterprise Car Rental rescued me the next day, which I am grateful concerning. Who needs this insult to injury...a Seinfeld episode for sure, you can take a reservation but keeping it is the key!
