I almost hesitate to write the following glowing review as it likely means John will have too much work to squeeze me in! However, I know he would always be there for me, and he deserves to get more business. Reliable Electric is John Neumann and John is the prototype of what a Master electrician should be. He is honest, communicative and takes pride in his work. He is professional, presentable and extremely knowledgeable. My project was re-wiring my basement and adding a 2nd bathroom. After a few other unsatisfying estimates -one including a guy who walked around, mumbled to himself, telling me little and asking less- I was introduced to Reliable Electric. John came in and LISTENED, and asked and explained and suggested and informed and listened some more. He quoted me a better price than anyone else and gave me options. This man knew his stuff and I was hopeful. After I decided to use him he came when he said and got to work. Having never done such a major project I was clueless about specifics, and he helped me figure out the best way to configure the switches so that I could have the most ideal control over my lighting as I moved about the basement. His work was so well done other companies that came to work in my basement commented on what a professional I had doing the electrical! And I have to tell this story. One Friday all heck broke loose with an inspector who wanted me to jump through some hoops, and made some scary comments about the electrical work. I was in a panic filled tizzy and immediately called John to relay the comments. I could tell he was driving but John listened, answered my concerns and let me vent. After a bit he said, "Try not to worry, whatever happens I will take care of it". He wasn't trying to blow me off, he meant it and it calmed me down and made me feel considerably better. But not just words, he really did take care of everything. He knows his stuff and because of this he could easily fix the small issues the inspector had made sound major, and ignore the issues the inspector was flat out wrong about. All of his work passed final inspection. When there was a problem at the bank with my check he patiently waited for me to come down and straighten it out. I was extremely PO'ed and I am sure John was too, but he never showed it, and was very understanding. I will be hiring him to rewire my parents' 1955 house top to bottom and he has already finished one bathroom, since that was all I could afford right now. He told me "I'll work with you and we can do this one room at a time, as much as you can afford to do." I'm in love!! In the next few years I plan to move out of state and I am honestly sad to think I will lose John as my electrician. The biggest things I look for in a contractor are quality, trust, and reliability. John exceeded my expectations on all three. We bought a "flipped" home and the electrical work that had been done was subpar. I went to hook up my new TV and the HDMI arced causing my TV, receiver, and other devices to be blown out. I found John here on Yelp and he did an evaluation of my whole house. What I came away with was enough evidence to hand over to the home builder and get a check written for all of the work to be updated. Long story short, John came in and completely updated the home. There are so many good things to say about John/Reliable Electric, its hard to know where to start. First, he returned my call(s) same day, and usually in less than an hour. He knows how to manage his schedule and his time, and therefore was everywhere he said he would be at exactly the times he said he would be there. We had him replace (and upgrade) our full electric panel, as well as outlets and switches throughout our house. His pricing beat other quotes we received, and the level of care and workmanship far exceeded expectations. We appreciated the fact that he has a set rate for replacing outlets/switches (we have aluminum wiring, so he had to create "pigtail" connections to copper wire for each), so we could calculate cost on our own for that part of the job and were able to decide what and how much we wanted to spend now vs. later. He finished the work a day earlier than what he had planned, so nice to have a contractor who knows how to appropriately set expectations, and come in under on both budget and time...even though he ran across an unforeseen issue, and took the initiative to correct the problem without charging for the extra time. John was so professional, easy to work with, thorough and conscientious. Ordinarily, I wouldn't be so excited about spending money on replacing electrical stuff, but the peace of mind we have, knowing that John has performed this work so thoroughly, we're up to code, and our electrical is safe, is a great feeling. Okay... I have not technically used John to service my home, yet. BUT when I had questions about how do deal with a specific situation (need to use my dryer outlet for a time to plug in my new EV Nissan Leaf, his caution and recommendations were spot on. I intended to pay him to come by and confirm that the "neutral post" on my odd looking flat-wire 3 post wall dryer plug was doing its job, I would have paid John the price of admission. However, things that John said matched up with the expertise of a couple of others I also trust, I reasoned that if the neutral was not properly grounded, the dryer would have been a fire-hazard already. So, now I must wait a few months for a new box to be installed as part of a solar panel system install from Namaste. I know now that I can "get by" with the current solution, and look forward to the installation of a proper 4 pronged 220v receiver plug with 50 amp capacity that will be more than enough for time being, and probably work on any future EV (should we buy another). If I didn't pay John now, the question is whether I just "used" John? I promise that it is just a matter of time when I will need a qualified and reputable electrician. And based on his time spent over the phone, other Yelp reviewers comments, and the fact that the BBB shows nothing negative in the way of complaints (which is more important to me than if he paid the BBB just to be called "Accredited"), he will be my electrician of the future. Let's be honest here when you have an electrical problem you have two choices, ask a friend for a referral or hop on google and pray you come across a good, honest company. My friends referral couldn't make it the next day so I resorted to yelp. I rolled the dice as I had an electrical emergency that I needed to take care of within 1 measly day before I sold a house so I picked up the phone. I saw this company had a good review and it was close. Gave John a call. He answered the phone. He was polite. He said he would come give a quote the next day no problem and do the work same day. So the next day, he showed up on time, wearing a shirt that clearly said John right on it while driving a marked vehicle. This is of big importance to me because I work with tons of skilled trade workers and most are very unprofessional, and the ones who aren't charge an arm and a leg. John charged me a price that was so fair I even felt obligated to tip him. He was talkative and friendly the entire time and didn't mind me hovering over his should watching what he was doing. John is an excellent electrician and is very easy to work with. He helped me install a portable generator manual transfer switch so I can keep my home business operating during power outages. We agreed on a price and completed the work the same day. I am a do-it-yourself type so before he arrived I mounted the transfer switch on the wall and installed the generator connection box myself. I draw the line at working inside the service panel and I also wanted someone to check my work to make sure it meets code. John pulled the wires into my service panel and hooked them up to the selected circuits. He also connected a new furnace circuit for me as an additional scope item. John is very easy to work with and he was happy to explain what he was doing and why during the project. He had no problem with me watching, and I even helped him a little so it was an enjoyable experience. I learned a few new things about electrical work from him. After finishing the connections John was very patient as we simulated a power outage and tested the system to make sure the transfer box was working properly and all selected circuits were hooked up as planned and working correctly. Everything worked like a charm. John is self-employed, so he can keep his overhead low. Because he works alone you may need to schedule non-emergency work out a bit, but that was no problem for me. I think you will find he is well worth the wait. Bottom line -- I would highly recommend Reliable Electric if you have any residential or commercial electrical needs. read more

John is awesome. I had an issue (I was told) with the 240 volt outlet my dryer uses. The appliance guy Whirlpool sent out said so, anyway. So I called John based on Yelp reviews. We made an appointment and he was here promptly. He poked around and checked the breaker--no problems with the electricity that he could see. Then the dryer started working again. Sounds like the appliance guy just didn't do his job and check the actual dryer...John didn't charge me anything, not even for diagnostics. Awesome! We had scheduled with John from Reliable Electric to check on one circuit that suddenly stopped working. We have addressed multiple times that we believe the issue is with a 3-gang box light switch that was recently rewired by another electrician that added a dimmer switch to a 4 way. John took 2 hours and 45 minutes checking the attic and every other switch in the house. He was about to put a new line in when I asked him again if he checked on that light switch we were concerned with. He finally started looking into 'that' switch and took him 10 minutes to realize those outlets were wired incorrectly. In the meantime invoicing us $90/hour for 4 1/2 hours trouble - shooting. Something that took him at most 1 1/2 hours to rewire. When my husband called him to address what happened, he said we are not electricians and don't understand it. Interesting! Maybe it'd be a good idea to pay attention to what your customer is trying to tell you in the future, not everyone has hundreds of dollars to waste. We don't recommend this business. read more

Stunned. Absolutely the best. I left a message at 7:30 this morning, a cold Saturday in winter. The breaker to our hot tub had tripped and I couldn't get it to turn on . . . If we didn't get electricity soon, the hot tub could freeze. John called back about an hour later, said he could help, and gave me a time--about four hours later. He had another job he had to do first. About ten minutes before he was due to show up, he called to say he was on his way, but it would take him about 20 minutes to get here. He did a VERY thorough job of diagnosing the problem, found the breaker was, indeed, fried. Not having a GFI breaker with him, he installed a non-GFI breaker to test the system and simply to keep the water hot pending his finding a proper GFI breaker. ("You can't use the tub. It isn't safe. But it will keep the water hot.") But he then did some calling, found a replacement breaker (on a Saturday!), got it, and put it in. . . . Except, clearly, something must have gone bad in the tub, because the GFI would not turn on. "I'm sorry. I did not fix your problem, so I will only charge you for the new breaker, and a small fee." Except: It's not his fault that our tub must have something wrong with it! As someone else said, I refused to accept his low price. I gave him extra. Whew! When was the last time you wanted to pay someone more than they charged? read more

Our hot water heater went out recently and after getting the tank removed and plumbing fixed up I had John come in to install an electric tankless heater. John was in the middle of a very busy schedule but he kindly squeezed us in and worked hard to get the job done in one day! It is no easy job upgrading electrical to get a tankless water heater set up but John was more than up to the task. He had to rewire an area next to our deck and he did so in freezing temperatures and snow! He did a great job and had a very professional attitude the whole time. I called on a Saturday looking for help with re-wiring a botched 220V outlet. we had just moved into this new house, and I had been without a dryer for two weeks, and I was fed up with trying to make it work using friends and family. John called me back within 2min of leaving a message and was standing on my doorstep 20 mins later. I seriously can't recommend John enough. We had a problem with the lights in our dining room and kitchen with 8 house guests arriving in a couple days. He was able to come out and fix the problem.
