You were given a folder that held your name, bio, and a small list of objectives you had to complete before/and after the murder. The menu, was light. In hindsight, significantly over priced for serving size. Appetizer was a butternut squash bisque soup. That was pretty good!!! Entree consisted of a braised beef risotto over mashed potatoes. Bland but acceptable. Meat was tender, a bit salty. Dessert was pumpkin cheese cake. That was phenomenal!! I had two of those . The mystery was very enjoyable. Parking was so easy just steps from the front door. Our room was very clean. Loved the fireplace a few things that really need to be noted, is how close the hotel is to everything. It is an amazing location. We walk to our dinner reservations. They also serve wine in the lobby in the evening. The breakfast served in the morning was so good! The view from our table of the pool and the river was just beautiful. At breakfast, we all loved the yogurt parfait. It had crushed pineapple and kiwi. They had sausage, biscuits, and gravy, beautiful quiche, Pastries, so many beverage options. Everyone was so impressed. We all very much enjoyed our stay at the Gruene River Inn.

It always had a welcoming, rustic, hill-country feel to it that matched the surroundings. Our last stay I was really disappointed at the changes that had been made to the decor mostly because they make no sense and did not improve the property in any way. I sincerely hope that the owners did not pay for this decor design. It's pretty awful. (And kind of funny bc it's ALL over the place). What used to be rustic and charming now seems to be modern (gold fixtures, tiled shower, trash cans) asian (black trim, bathroom doors, headboard fabric), kitschy (lasso bedside lamps- that aren't good for reading and don't dim), with a 50's retro flair (the refrigerator and the blue tooth), and modern cowboy art on the walls. Yet, no one thought to include charging ports for electronics! It's so confusing. They pulled out the nice big tub and put in a shower that doesn't have a door and has a shower head with no pressure and no direction to it- so to say it plainly, it's difficult to get clean! Amongst all the changes perhaps fixing the toilet so it doesn't randomly run might have been a good choice. One of the reasons we use to like to stay were the delicious breakfast tacos that were provided. I don't know if they will come back or not as the lobby was under construction, but based on the decor choices my guess is they will make some equally terrible decision regarding the lobby and maybe do away with it all together? Who knows!What it has going for it is that the views are amazing (thankfully they couldn't change that or my guess is they would have)! The bed was comfortable and the towels were top notch. Maybe if you've never been before you won't find it as disturbing but I just had a hard time reconciling the fact that they paid to make the place worse. We might have to find different digs when we're in the area.

There were archways everywhere you looked with the most scenic Hill Country views you could ask for. The dance floor protruded out one of the archways so that you could dance under the stars. Truly breathtaking. My only complaint was the terrain. The area where we had cocktail hour, as well as the walk to the ceremony, was very jagged and rocky. You would not believe the staircase down to the grass. There were rough steps and wobbly branches as handrails. The reception had flat cement floors, but again, the outside bar area was very hazardous in heels. The bride and bridal party had cowboy boots on, so this was mainly the brides fault for not including this bit of information about the difficult terrain in the invitation. Apparently many guests were aware of this, but as a plus 1, how was I to know? Something should have been mentioned in the invitation, or on the bride and groom's website.

I would recommend it as a different meeting place for your special meetings. We rented two queen bed rooms at $89 per night, a black Friday special! I also tried out their Sunday houses which is a one room cottage. The privacy is nice and the rooms are super clean. The restrooms are also clean and feature the 1995 esq look. The landscaping and walking trails are beautiful. The pool is nice and the hot tub stays hot. The practice putting green is cool. Their are fire pits around and lit during the night. This is a great place to hang out with the family while touring around the Texas Hill Country. Enjoy!

Rick is reasonable. Read that--beauty on a budget. I'm not sure how long this will last since Rick is new to the wedding venue game. The only "issue" is that Rick loves first. People who love first and love well make decisions for brides that put the bride first. Not the business. I truly can not count all the ways he blessed my particular bride, because they wouldn't fit in a Yelp review, but what I can tell you is that if you have any need, please don't let him give it to you for free. That kind of man. Y'all, we need affordable wedding spaces that take your breath away. But, yes, we also need caring business owners who value the person above the place they represent. Rick represents his family, his business and his clients' needs beyond what is industry standard. Think, far beyond. Case in point: I actually had to remind him to cash my check! He was holding it until we got paid, and then I think he may have even forgotten we hadn't paid yet. Bless his heart! The following are actual quotes from our experience: "Didn't y'all already pay me the deposit?" Rick asked. "Yes, Rick. You held the check but it hasn't cashed. Thank you for working with us," I told him. "Oh. Okay. Let me check with my wife. She handles that." Rick is building and curating this space--one auction house and trade show at a time. I can't wait for you to see the lovely stained glass windows he just installed near the bridal suite. Speaking of which, the bridal suite is fit for a Queen. The Orchard was the first venue we toured for my bride. My bride had already toured multiple venue spaces before when her sister got married a few months prior. Everyone on our side of town agreed: this space was just as beautiful and more in line with homespun Texas/elegance core. Think twinkle lights at night with a dance floor built under the stars. A place for romance that becomes real on a very special night, where two souls knit together as one. I promise this can exist outside of a book. I've seen it with my own eyes. Please go tour here. Especially if you are looking for an expansive outdoor space. If your vibe is more formal, there is a climate controlled indoor dining hall where more sensitive guests can spend the evening. I'm sure, like us, you will tour other places. But, if you're also like us, you will do a complete 180 and high tail it back to the Orchard at Spring Branch. Thank you, Rick.
