Most of us don't review health care providers because we have to reveal some personal information…read morein the process. My experience here was bad enough it was worth that risk. I was referred here by another doctor for a minor non-surgical issue. I was asked to send all previous medical records before my appointment, which I did. I also verbally gave the doctor, internal medicine specialist Dr. Ruth Lerman, my medical history. Without my knowledge, her office sent my records out for a second opinion. However, I'd already HAD a second opinion AND had the necessary procedure done by the surgeon who referred me to Beaumont. What followed first was a relentless barrage of calls and even mail insisting I schedule a follow-up even though I kept telling them I had already had a second opinion and the problem taken care of before I ever set foot in their office. The calls kept coming. I told them I was NEVER returning to their center, as I already had a doctor and follow-up care scheduled. The calls continued. (All, oddly, coming in with caller ID from the Seychelles.) Then I got the bill for the "second opinion" consultation, which I had not been informed of nor consented to. I have great insurance so my share of it was small, but since the records did not need review and I'd already taken care of the problem, I believed it was unethical to expect my insurance company OR me to pay for it. It took weeks of fruitless calling before I finally emailed the hospital's appeals department. Their response? Basically that's what they do so that's what they did, without any medical or logical explanation at all. Through this time I kept getting calls to go to a follow-up appointment with Dr. Lerman - who by the way was not able to help my problem, so it's pretty much beyond me why I'd go back. I simply wanted a single consultation with this doctor and wasn't looking to become part of the Beaumont clan, caught forever in their Byzantine machinery. I can tell you this experience has set in stone that I'll never set foot in this place again. I suggest you do the same.

I received all of my treatment at Beaumont Royal Oak. I live up north and have a 4 hour drive to get there. The trust and confidence I have for Beaumont keeps me coming back. I am still being followed by the breast care center over 10 years later. I appreciate their ability to have same day reads and extra testing done if needed that day. They have been very accommodating to my needs. I encourage every woman to have yearly mammograms at a center that specializes in breast care.

During my first appointment with Marna Taylor, she ordered bloodwork, prescribed medication for the oral thrush, and recommended physical therapy. I also mentioned concerns about acne, and she told me it was completely normal for my age and that I was probably perimenopausal. At my second appointment, I explained that the medication for my tongue had not worked. She prescribed a higher dose of the same medication. I also mentioned that physical therapy was not covered by my insurance and that I had researched the possibility of a gluten reaction. She agreed that sounded plausible. The appointment then shifted into a discussion about my health insurance premiums and coverage. I explained that I had marketplace insurance at the time because I was a freelance writer, and that I was comfortable with my monthly premium and willing to pay out of pocket if needed. Despite that, she told me she could not order additional thyroid bloodwork unless I personally called my insurance company, gathered all the billing codes, and found the prices for each test. She then ended the appointment, saying I was late, even though I had arrived on time. On the drive home, I realized she had never even reviewed my bloodwork results with me, which was the main reason for the visit. When I later checked the portal myself, I saw abnormal levels. When I went to refill the prescription she had given me, the pharmacist pulled me aside and said he was concerned it may have been prescribed incorrectly because the dosage was extremely high and aggressive. He advised me to call and confirm it. At that point, I decided not to continue care here. I later paid out of pocket for bloodwork from Function Health, which showed significant thyroid issues. I then found a new doctor who told me it was preposterous to suggest I was likely perimenopausal at 34 without proper evaluation, and I have since been receiving treatment for my thyroid condition. This experience felt dismissive, unhelpful, and poorly managed. I would not recommend wasting your time or money here.

I explained our situation to them and they did not have any empathy for our challenges. All we got from the neurologist (doctor) , medical assistant and the front desk attendant were sorry that's our policy. As many times as we patiently sat waiting beyond our appointment time to be called back to be seen by this same medical staff we never once saw a sign warning us of this policy. I am disgusted by these apparent health care professionals.

Since it's close by and open, I normally am forced to end up at this sorry excuse of a doctor's office. I've given this office more than a handful of chances to prove me wrong, but so far it keeps getting worse and worse. Below are the main reasons I'm giving them one star: 1. The staff is incredibly rude and either does not listen to you or answers in a very condescending tone 2. For some reason, whenever I go in there is never an actual doctor in the office and only a nurse practitioner 3. Even when I've been the only person in the waiting room, I've had to sit around waiting to be seen for no less than an hour. The longest I've waited was three hours and there was only two people ahead of me. 4. They out of the blue stopped accepting my insurance (Blue Cross) and instead of telling me, they just charged me $400 and mailed me the bill four months later. 5. After making monthly payment arrangements with the biller (who works in a separate office and is very helpful) I was then sent to collections even after making my monthly payments on time every month. 6. After calling the office manager at least five times, my calls were never returned and the receptionist Shivontae was very rude to me. After all of the hoopla (months later and moving 20 hours away) I'm still dealing with them. Don't go to this doctor's office unless you have a lot of free time to be able to put up with them afterwards.

I went to a drive thru urgent care to get a Covid test and they tried to charge me $140 since I have no insurance, so I left. Called a different urgent care for a Covid test, they said it would cost me $200. Unbelievable.. $200 to tell me whether I'm sick or not? I'd rather quarantine at that point. Welcome to Berkley urgent care! I was recommended here by a friend and wow when I tell you how different his phone call felt. I called about a test and they took down all my information and said they would call me back about details. Within an hour a doctor called me, talked me, set up a Covid test and prescribed me medicine. Even the nurse who gave me the Covid test was so sweet. I wasn't charged a penny for my Covid test and my medicine was pretty cheap. There are angels here. I highly recommend.

I called today after reviewing my results because the test I requested was not performed. I was open to discussing it, but that didn't seem to be the case on her end. I explained that the vitamin D test drawn was not the correct one for checking deficiency--it was done correctly during my visit in 2025. She insisted it was the same test and even stated that the system we were both looking at showed the same thing, as if I did not understand what I was reviewing. However, the system clearly shows otherwise. The test that was ordered was for hormone/active vitamin D levels, not for deficiency. If this is a small mistake--and I understand that mistakes can happen--the issue for me is that there was no willingness to acknowledge or correct it. There was also no consideration that the lab itself may have made an error. It took from Saturday to Tuesday just to receive the result of one blood test. After working a 12-hour shift, I came in because I had already been told the wrong test was done. While I understand other patients need care and didn't mind waiting, I was ultimately ignored instead of having a simple conversation to address the issue. After some time, I decided to leave and go to another urgent care for more attentive and thorough treatment. These are not the same tests--they measure different forms of vitamin D--and it was frustrating to be told otherwise. Update: Hours later, I received multiple calls from the office--none from the NP I originally saw. While I was told the issue was due to the lab switching their codes, there was still no acknowledgment of how the situation was handled. Even if this was a lab-related error, it does not address the provider's lack of listening or willingness to consider that the information in the system may not have matched what she believed. I was told we were both looking at the same thing, despite pointing out clear differences. Beaumont has been Corewell, including their labs, for at least two years now, so that explanation raises additional questions. Regardless, my concern is not just about where the error originated, but the lack of accountability and communication. I would prefer not to receive repeated calls providing conflicting or inaccurate information, especially when there has been no acknowledgment of the initial concern. At this point, I have gone and received care elsewhere.

I have asthma so it wasn't an immediate ER visit - I called to get a professional's opinion. I scheduled a visit to get vaccines that I needed to travel out of the country - when I came for that appointment, I met with the NP (who is lovely - I can't say enough good things about her) and she agreed that I did need the vaccines that I had requested -- so, she asked the office staff to order the vaccines and I would have to come back for them at another time. (Why wasn't I told this was going to be the practice? When I made a similar call to my old PCP across the state, they had the vaccines during my first visit.) I came to a scheduled appointment 5 minutes early (it should have been a quick visit) and 45 minutes AFTER my scheduled appointment, when I checked with the receptionist, she told me it would be "just a few more minutes" without any idea of how long it would be or any explanation what so ever. I understand HIPAA prevents her from telling me what the hold up was - but some apology for running SO late or an idea of how much longer it would have been would have been nice. I really can't adequately convey how awful this place actually is. Don't waste your time or your money. I was so disappointed in my experiences with ZMC that I called and left a message for the practice manager (two weeks ago) and he never so much as returned my call. It is clear to me that even the manager doesn't value patients. The only saving grace is that the NP is delightful - she's quick and has good bedside manner. She includes you as a part of the medical team. I wish the rest of the practice would step up.

Other than that, I can't really agree with any of the negative reviews. Four stars.
