I do NOT recommend. I have to call constantly to remind reception to have Dr. Bornstein put in my refill prescriptions. It's so annoying. Office staff are rude and not great at getting messages to the Dr.s in a timely manner. Also my prescriptions constantly get sent to different pharmacies all though I remind them over and over again that it's west bloomfield pharmacy they always send it to Madison heights. Always disorganized and if I have to cancel an appointment and schedule for a later date they DO NOT cancel me and I get told I missed my last appointment. Ridiculous! I was a 34-year-old female who came here in 2024 for bloodwork, a tingling sensation in my foot, and oral thrush/candida. During my first appointment with Marna Taylor, she ordered bloodwork, prescribed medication for the oral thrush, and recommended physical therapy. I also mentioned concerns about acne, and she told me it was completely normal for my age and that I was probably perimenopausal. At my second appointment, I explained that the medication for my tongue had not worked. She prescribed a higher dose of the same medication. I also mentioned that physical therapy was not covered by my insurance and that I had researched the possibility of a gluten reaction. She agreed that sounded plausible. The appointment then shifted into a discussion about my health insurance premiums and coverage. I explained that I had marketplace insurance at the time because I was a freelance writer, and that I was comfortable with my monthly premium and willing to pay out of pocket if needed. Despite that, she told me she could not order additional thyroid bloodwork unless I personally called my insurance company, gathered all the billing codes, and found the prices for each test. She then ended the appointment, saying I was late, even though I had arrived on time. On the drive home, I realized she had never even reviewed my bloodwork results with me, which was the main reason for the visit. When I later checked the portal myself, I saw abnormal levels. When I went to refill the prescription she had given me, the pharmacist pulled me aside and said he was concerned it may have been prescribed incorrectly because the dosage was extremely high and aggressive. He advised me to call and confirm it. At that point, I decided not to continue care here. I later paid out of pocket for bloodwork from Function Health, which showed significant thyroid issues. I then found a new doctor who told me it was preposterous to suggest I was likely perimenopausal at 34 without proper evaluation, and I have since been receiving treatment for my thyroid condition. This experience felt dismissive, unhelpful, and poorly managed. I would not recommend wasting your time or money here. read more

Well, after a couple months of me seeking a new Dr due to complete negligence, I had an appointment and within the first visit, bloodwork was ran and a serious imbalance was found that required medication. Crazy what happens when a Dr actually listens to what the patient says the first time. The only follow up I have received from the office was a long letter from Dr Bornstein, condescedingly defending himself on all accounts, and once again gaslighting me to think I'm wrong. He ended the letter asking me to "take down my review". Then today, I got a giant bill, for charges dating back to January of 2025. Claiming my insurance didn't pay for me to have a covid or influenza swab. Charging me $75 DOLLARS just to "handle a covid specimen". I'll take it up with Cigna, since I'm certain these charges are incorrectly billed. But I will say, a billing person from the Be Well office called me a while back claiming they "didn't have record of my insurance at that time" and they only had my new one on file, wondering if I could send them the info. Even though they've billed the one they claim to not have, for other various visits. This is the first bill I've gotten from them in I can't even tell you how long. So clearly, this was dug out of their backlogged archives and compiled because they don't like my review. Bottom line, this place is an absolute mess. Spare yourself and find a doctor's office that you can trust to pay attention to your symptoms, not lose your information, and own it when they do something wrong and someone calls them out on it. read more

They asked me not to come back because I got upset and yelled in the office because their social worker failed to file all of my paperwork properly which ended up in me losing benefits I was supposed to have to cover my HIV treatment. They denied it was their fault, even though they had fired this social worker previous to me even finding out her failures. This was a MAJOR misstep resulting in me losing continuity of care for HIV; which is not only a medical crisis but a medical crisis that this office claims to be superior at preventing. I was not only devastated but hurt because I patronized this practice because of its proximity to my community and it did nothing but disrespect it. read more

I came to the Be Well clinic this past Wednesday and started to fill out the necessary paperwork. Unfortunately, I was told that I arrived 30 minutes late and that no one could see me, my friend, who came with me, and I both swore that my appointment was at 2:30, "Ce le vie". I paused when I read that I would be required to make Dr. Benson my primary care physician. Something that wasn't pointed out to me, prior to making my appointment. I have a physician who is familiar with my medical history, I'm physically disabled(paraplegia) and I don't want to let him go. I've been struggling with a decision to transition(MtoF) for many years, and this clinic was recommended by an associate and current patient. In my 46 years of life, and the many places I have lived, I have NEVER had a better experience at a doctor's office than I did today at Be Well Medical Center. It is, quite literally, the kind of place I have been looking for my whole life. Upon arrival, I was received pleasantly by the ladies in reception. My wait was short, and then Scott, who was just the most lovely human, triaged me and escorted me into a room where just moments later, my P.A. Lee came in and began talking to me about why I was there. I got introductions. I got time to explain my concerns and ask questions. I was listened to, and all my thoughts were validated and responded to. I felt like Lee and I were BOTH advocating for my wellness, as a team! My experiences at other doctor's offices in the past had always left me feeling rushed, unheard, and "quick fixed", which usually resulted in a prescription or two -- in and out -- despite my genuine desire to actually take an active role in my own wellness, including diet, exercise, supplements, hydration, etc. Not at Be Well! Here, Lee spent time with me, learned a little about who I am and how I view my wellness and my treatment, and worked with me inside those parameters. He was intelligent, laid back, easy to talk to, and professional. I felt this was the norm at this office and I feel reasonably sure that would be the case with any P.A. or doctor that works here. Lee approached the situation methodically, and we created a plan for testing and treatment. I left the room feeling confident that I was in good hands and that the plan would yield helpful information, as well as potential solutions. Check-out was as quick and easy as check-in was, and on my way out, I heard a voice call out to me, "Wait, don't leave yet! I turned to find Dr. Benson following me and offering a red carnation. "Happy Valentine's Day!" he said. Completely brightened my day and made me feel like more than just a patient. I cannot recommend Be Well Medical Center enough. I am so glad my cousin referred me. I had my first appointment as a new patient with Lee Burroughs today. It is a beautiful facility, the receptionist was absolutely lovely and efficient. My nurse was very kind and sweet. I had the best visit with Lee. Working myself, in medicine for 20yrs, I've had a hard time finding a good and thorough primary care provider, and Lee is worth his weight in gold. He's extremely thorough, informative, he has an amazing personality, and is genuinely passionate about managing care, even in complex cases. His energy oozes dedication, and I was very impressed. Aside from strong arming and requiring frequent visits for a med I have been on for four years and will be for life. I've only had a negative experiences with this office since Powers left. Billing has yet to get things right the first time. Benson only communicated via the app, and dodged appointments with him (I saw Lee, who was very kind). Benson's messages have been rude, demanding, condescending and in general unpleasant. I'd give zero stars if I could, as this office is nothing but a headache. I prefer urgent care to this place now. He also seems to really dislike the LGBT community as a whole, even though he claims to be supportive. Avoid this place, go literally anywhere else and you'll have a better experience. read more

On the exterior, Be Well presents well. If you need someone to run your blood, check your vitals, fill out prescriptions and charge your insurance this will work for you. Beyond the most rote, basic traditional medicine, though, they're profoundly incompetent and Dr. Benson is an arrogant personality (so much so that I expect a rejoinder posted to this review). This place cost me months of healing and caused me extreme anxiety as result of their carelessness and hubris. If you seek comprehensive care for anything other than a common cold or bloodwork, look elsewhere. (oh, well, they're quite assertive in their advertisement for cosmetic treatments, so maybe their good at injecting filler.) I came in three years ago having been sick for months (at one point hospitalized for seven days) and barely able to think or remain awake. They ran my blood and fortunately found I had Lyme Disease, which explained some things. However, rather than as anything about my ongoing symptoms or explain anything of the horror I'd endure the next three years, they gave me three weeks antibiotics and said, "Call in three weeks." Had they known anything about chronic Lyme, they'd know that antibiotics are effectively useless once the bacteria has proliferated. When I came in three weeks later and twice as sick, they extended the dose another three weeks. When I came back after that Dr. Benson told me I was depressed and said, "It says here you have a history of trauma." I came back a year later and my Lyme antibodies were more than before. He threw antibiotics at it again before telling me to see an Infectious Disease specialized who suggested I have a spinal tap. I had to seek treatment elsewhere with a Lyme Literate doctor, which began a multi-year process of recovery that has not ended. My problem is not that Dr. Benson wasn't Lyme Literate (it's rarer in MI than it is in NJ, where I believe I got Lyme) but that his arrogance was such that he refused to listen to a patient and became insulting whenever his approach was questioned. I wish that were the end of it But, coinciding with this, I had two consecutive unusual EKG scores in their office. In fact, during the first one an employee said, "It looks like you're having a heart attack." I'm a fit early-forties male, but my dad died at 52 from heart disease. So, I asked about the EKG. Benson said, "it's nothing, but I'll send you for a stress test if you REALLY want." Well, two stress tests came back with positive results. Benson says, "It's nothing. You have trauma, but we can send you for a Ct-Scan if you REALLY want and, by the way, take this PULS test that's wonderful." Well, my PULS score returned saying I have an 86 year old heart. However, no cardiologist in the Detroit area knows what this test IS. Meanwhile the CT scan comes back showing blockage in my artery. All the while, I'm ravaged by Lyme symptoms and feeling like I'm dying. I wrote him a 2 page letter and never heard back. I had to advocate for myself to the point of exhaustion with this place. Only by speaking with someone who'd designed the PULS test did I learn that inflammatory autoimmune conditions like LYME can skew the score. (So, I spent almost a year thinking I had an 86 year old heart). On the other hand, I DO have arterial blockage, but Benson told me repeatedly that was nothing. Just as he did about my Lyme Disease. This place cost me crucial time in getting the treatment I need. Benson is an arrogant, incompetent business man who has set up a fine facility for tending to quotidian insurance-racking medial needs, but he is immediately out of his depth with anything requiring deeper investigation. Do not rely on this place for comprehensive care or adequate diagnosis. read more

If it was my first time coming here and I spoke with her the first time, I probably would reconsider even using this place as my health provider. read more

Got a letter from Be Well plus its online reply to my original review. They don't seem to remember my visits. In 2015, I went with a rash on my leg. They prescribed a steroid. It got worse. Went to a dermatologist who told me it had been misdiagnosed, and prescribed something else. I didn't think this was a big deal & didn't complain about the mistake. In early 2016, I went to Be Well with a new issue complaining of nausea, problems sleeping & headaches. No one asked about family medical history, recent travel, or diet. No one even took my temperature. Was diagnosed as depressed & given a prescription. At the end of my visit, I overheard one of the doctors get scolded by the office therapist who went off on a tirade with her office door open. One week later, I came back to Be Well. I had lost 10 pounds over a few days, because I was vomiting so much. I was told I had insomnia & was prescribed a sleep aide. When I suggested maybe that I had stomach flu or something else, I was patted on the shoulder and told "I see you're single. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll find a relationship and be happy one day." While I sat in the exam room, a pharmaceutical rep got into an intense argument with a doctor in the hallway. I went to fill my prescription at the pharmacy in the same building, & the rep followed me & had a lengthy (and loud) conversation with one of the pharmacy's workers about how much she dislikes the doctors at Be Well. One more week later, having lost a total of 25 pounds and being severely dehydrated, I went somewhere else. They did a series of lab tests and found out I had a serious bacterial GI infection & needed antibiotics. I agree I was depressed. I wasn't able to hold down food & was having debilitating headaches. I just wish they had been more thorough about their consultation and testing. I could have been on the path to recovery weeks earlier. As a business owner, I also think the workers here seem very unhappy & don't have much concern about what's overheard by patients. read more

For Years I have always had problem with my Doctors and I have gone to especially, the 5 different Doctors after Moving to Bloomfield Hills, because the Medical Doctors are not Gay friendly. I have a pretty tall task that I am hoping that the "Be Well Medical Center" can help me with. I have hormone levels that are not where I want them to be and the doctor I am seeing, Dr. William Powers, has helped me to get on top of it immediately. I had been inflicted with Ternia Vestricolor, something I had battling for over three years; I had seen dermatologists and a different physician for this... no one could help fix it. One visit... just one and I am prescribed a medication that within a week has made it so I can finally see clear skin again; CLEAR SKIN for the first time in three years. I had an impressive first visit with Dr. Benson today. The office space is clean and modern, with plenty of waiting room space. The front desk staff are cheery and welcoming. The nurses and other medical staff were easy to talk with. Dr. Bensen and I had nicely detailed conversations. I appreciate the sensitivity of his staff to diversity, especially the LGBT community. The is a pharmacy and lab in the building. The clinic uses an online health portal and an app that let's patients access information from their computers, phones, or tablets. She made me feel dumb and paranoid with my symptoms, which after finding a new doctor, I realized I was not. I have never dealt with a more awful human being in health care. I recently relocated from New York city to Detroit and was referred to Dr. Benson at the BeWell Medical Center by Unified Michigan, AIDS services providers. How fortunate for me! I'm a long-term survivor of HIV / AIDS and had world class medical care in New York by Dr. Paul Bellman and Dr. Jose Lares-Guia - two of the finest in the field. I can say that the level of care by Physician Assistant Caleb Youngblood and Dr. Paul Benson is second-to-none. I feel completely safe in their care and would recommend this facility to not only persons living with HIV / AIDS, but anyone looking for an exemplary primary care provider. Went in for an annual physical two years ago and was scheduled to be seen by Caleb. Instead a medical student performed the ENTIRE physical and Caleb wasn't even in the room. He came back to shake my hand and listened to my heart and lungs and that was it. On top of that they billed me for a "VAP" heart test that they partnered with a private company for and it was never okay end by me. They did remove that charge after I called. They didn't even do a CBC on my blood even though they submitted a billing code for it. The next physical I had (by a different provider who even includes ECG's at annual physicals) came back showing a low WBC count. I now will not know if this has been ongoing or a recent change. I decided to write this after asking the staff to look further into my lack of a CBC after it was submitted as performed and I was completely ignored with no call back. Billing for things not performed is fraud and if it was performed I imagine they are obligated to keep my records for more than 2 years (I believe most states are around 7 years). It's your health and your choice. Are they nice? Sure. But I prefer nice AND appropriate service. read more
