Anytime I had to interact with Dimitry Magidin, the property manager, he was always extremely rude and condescending. This past year, our rent went up over $300. When I called and talked to Dimitry and ask why it went up so much, his immediate response was "its the market, are you renewing or vacating, I'll send you a vacate form" I'm a very rude fashion. From talking with maintenance staff and office support staff through the years i was there, I've gathered that he is generally a miserable person and staff is not fond of working with him in the slightest and I typically was told "that's just how Dimitry is". The frequent staff turnover also supports this. My neighbors have also voiced the same above complaints to me when speaking with them. I would not recommend this property. With the crazy extra fees, bad conditions of the buildings, rodent issues, and spotty, if not plain terrible management, this is not a good place to live. If you value sleep, peace, and quiet, then consider viewing another apartment in Cranston or Warwick. My dog is terrified, and she always stays in her crate (which she never would do before we moved here). The property managers, Katie and Crystal, can only do so much about noise complaints, that you are left on your own trying to resolve them. Save yourself a big burden and headache and look for another apartment. Edit in Response to Property Management: We have been complaining about the noise for almost two years now to no avail. I have a laundry list of messages to Crystal about how loud and disruptive it has been for us, and she has done nothing about it. It is not a little noise, it is a lot of noise. This is coming from someone who is a combat veteran and who currently works in the healthcare field, and who deals with noise on a regular basis. I also never acknowledged that Crystal has taken any of our complaints seriously, and she most likely will not take anyone else's complaints seriously. My point still stands: do yourself a favor, ignore the PR message from Crystal, and look elsewhere.

When we reached out to the staff about it, we were told "that Independence Place cannot guarantee anyone's safety". The staff in general is very nice and probably the only bright spot of this place. Our entire apartment reeked of cigarettes when we moved in, there's no lights in the ceilings, my girlfriend has been cat called in the hallways, food smells from other units carry throughout the entire apartment building, etc. Parents let their kids play in the parking lot. Repairs are done in a timely fashion but the same repair often has to be done several times. They ran a hard credit check on me a month AFTER I moved in.

They have had multiple machines that haven't worked for seven months, Two of the four cheap cardio pieces have out of order signs on them. The facility never gets a thorough cleaning. Everything is always very well maintained (hallway carpets are washed several times a year, walls repainted when scuffed, etc), the concierge services are very pleasant and have your packages ready when you walk in, they host great social events including local brewer tastings and holiday parties, pool, jacuzzis, gym and theater you can rent out, plus garaged parking. Although the prices are creeping up for providence unfortunately, the city as a whole is growing and that is true anywhere. At least here amenities help to compensate that price increase. Not to mention being central to everything-walking distance to the mall or downtown, plenty of guest parking for overnight visitors and a great group of people who are generally respectable in the building.

There are so many surprises within this one building. A bunch of apartments above, the shared office space and incubator kitchen on the main level. A bocci ball court, cornhole, grill and picnic tables in the courtyard. There is also another building out back that is not currently being utilized but is another amazing (small) space for something amazing once they figure out its intended purpose. My favorite part is the amount of items they salvaged during the rehab. From machinery to metal drawers, they incorporated as much as they could into the overall aesthetic of the place. The Westminster Lofts is actually a collection of 5 different loft buildings; each with it's own…read moreunique vibe, but all located around Providence's hippest local, Westminster St. It ranges from the Smith lofts, which I believe are the cheapest, but also the least ornate (the floors are linoleum and the cupboards/appliances seem cheaper in quality). I personally reside in the Peerless building, which is my favorite of the lot, given the breathtaking view from the roof deck (complete with herb garden; fun fact, these herbs are used by the nearby restaurant Gracie's), and the awe-inspiring atrium. Each apartment is fully equipped with a dishwasher and in-unit laundry machine, which is super convenient, even if the drying cycle leaves a bit to be desired. The lighting in my particular unit isn't the best, but nothing that a few lamps can't solve. Most importantly, the front desk staff are amazing - always super friendly and helpful. I love this place that I live.
