I took my 88-year-old mom to the Springfield office, and they took terrific care of her. Dr. Huffman went above and beyond the call of duty, showing incredible patience with my mom, who isn't the easiest person to deal with, and absorbing my mom's records in real time (they arrived electronically literally while we were in the examination room). I will be using Renewal for my mom from now on and Dr. Huffman whenever possible. They provide top notch care - both medically and when it comes to bedside manner. read more

Tonya in their billing department has the worst phone skills and it's very very mean. She refused to help me and just kept saying the same thing over and over and over talking me and then hung up on me. !!!! Worst customer service I've ever seen. And their practice doesn't do a great job with dermatology either. But that lady Tonya in their billing department, is just very mean and rude and should not be working in customer service at all maybe somewhere washing dishes or something in the back room stay away from this place they have multiple offices. They're friendly and convenient but are largely ineffectual. I had come here through high school and college to visit for acne. This treatment irritated my skin so much that my face was constantly red and peeling regardless of saturating it with moisturizer. What ended up working best was ditching the treatment altogether and reducing the amount of face washing despite their suggestions to ramp up aggressive topicals. Fast forward to my early-mid-career professional life, I had a rash on my arm that was biopsied to reveal it as Psoriasis or so I am told. This is with a separate dermatologist at the same location. The Derm was perplexed why it wouldn't reply to topical steroids and decided to prescribe *more* steroids. This has been going on for months now with little change. I'm sure this staff is knowledgeable on some things, but they have never alleviated anything for me. I'm not convinced there's much specialized treatment planning going on here, as everything seemed rather Copy-Paste in my cases. What really sweetens the deal is that they only accept payments via mail or phone. What decade or even CENTURY are we in again? Trying to catch them during business hours requires some careful time coordination, and forget about trying during lunch; their break is longer than yours. Your other option is to drive into the location or mail a check or credit details...how antiquated. read more

This is a review for both the Reston and Manassas Crestwood offices. My GP recommended that I try them. The Manassas office was unavailable for appointments, so I had to go an hour from where I live to Reston. My scalp was really itchy and inflamed and a couple of days before the appointment, I found a strange-looking bug on my bathroom countertop and snapped a picture to show the doctor during my visit. The doctor told me the issue was due to stress and to stop itching. She gave me a prescription shampoo and some relaxation techniques. I showed her the picture and she told me it was nothing to do with my scalp and wasn't anything to worry about. Tried the shampoo and it did nothing to alleviate my itchy scalp. A month goes by and one day I see 4 of these same bugs on my bathroom countertop and look in my brush and they're all over it!! Turns out it was lice! The picture of the bug she told me not to worry about - living in my hair the whole time! After two at-home treatments, I still had issues. So made an appointment at the Manassas location - no way was I going back to that doctor, but I thought maybe a different doctor and location would work. I also had a mole I wanted checked. This doctor first looked at my scalp and said, "yeah there's some movement, just keep doing the at-home treatments every two weeks". Are you kidding?? Then he looked at the mole and told me it "was probably benign...yeah, probably". The only redeeming part of the visit was on the way out, the nurse told me about a lice clinic up the street. They saw me that day and fixed the issue. I went to a different dermatologist about the mole and assured me everything was fine. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE!! read more

I had been a patient at Renewal Dermatology for over 10 years, and recently their service has significantly declined. I had to contact my doctor to check on my prior authorization and then call my insurance to make sure it was processed. The insurance said that Renewal Dermatology could just re-bill the claim as everything was in the system. However, when I contacted Renewal Dermatology, Kim (who said she has 35 years working in billing) said she would not re-bill the claim despite me telling her that I had previously spoken to my insurance and they said to do so. Kim, Renewal Dermatology's expert at billing refused to process a bill or work with the patient. read more

I went to Renewal Dermatology for an issue and they informed me that a spot located very close to my left eye was basal cell carcinoma. Dr. Kwon removed the carcinoma but then needed A plastic surgeon to close it and Dr. Kwon sewed what she called a block on over the site. The only thing I was told to do was to take a damp q-tip and run around the edge and then put Vaseline around the edge. I was not given anything for pain and was not given any prescription for antibiotics or antibiotic ointment. Who performs surgery like that without giving antibiotics? I had a fantastic plastic surgeon close the wound and she was horrified that the doctor treated me in such a manner. Do yourself a favor and don't let them do surgery on you. Unfortunately, this place is not run well from an administrative perspective. They randomly close, and do not keep consistent hours, which are already inconvenient. You will receive a bill to pay after insurance and they will not provide a website to pay the bill. I also use Blue Cross Blue Shield federal And I am still incurring additional costs outside of my co-pay. Take that for what it is. The hours of business are a huge turn off. read more

This review is for the Fairfax location. To say I am pissed is an understatement of biblical proportions. A while ago, I visited the Fairfax location that I am convinced was wiped off the map considering they are only listed as being open on Tuesdays on the Renewal website, and there is no record of Lori Darrah on there. Today's a two for one because I have 2 separate reasons why I'm so angry: 1) when I attempted to have my medication refilled, my pharmacist could not fill it because she was somehow listed as an out of state physician. If she moved, she certainly neglected to tell me or any of her other patients. Thank god this isn't a life saving medication. I never could get that refill because they wouldn't even answer the phone for my pharmacist. 2) she did not tell me that antibiotics, which she put me on for my acne, interact with and dilute the efficacy of birth control. She did not call to let me know because she might have forgotten, no email, no voicemails, nothing. I found out from a pharmacist, and confirmed with my doctor that this is a legitimate interaction. I've attempted to communicate my displeasure many times with this, but I think I will be in geriatric care before I get a call back, if I ever do. This is pretty awful conduct from a physician, but I'm sure that since insurance isn't taking a cut of the profits, it isn't hurting these people a bit. read more

Review for Manassas location. The front office is as disheveled as most front offices these days. Be prepared to do all of the legwork yourself or you will not be permitted to see a doctor. Be sure to ask for every detail regarding procedures. Most patients are not experts and quite often don't know what questions to ask. At this office, you definitely need to have procedures explained IN DETAIL before anything is done. When it comes to any invasive procedure, ask to be referred to a plastic surgeon. Depending on who's is the nurse and office person and their mood thats how you get treated. If they are in mood you get treated nicely. I had an appointment for my son at 3 :00pm, I took the day off from work and picked my son early from the school . I was driving there , around 2:30 pm office called and cancel the appointment . I am like I five minutes from the office, they were like doctor left for the day. I am like was it an emergency? The office person response, he left for the day! Went into the manassas location and the front desk lady was busy eating whole peanuts in their shells and said she "doesn't have time to answer voicemails". She was exceedingly rude when there just one person in the waiting room (and they had already been helped). It took 15 minutes for her to make the appointment. The doctors may be fine but they need to get rid of their front desk person. She has no business serving customers, and even less so while she's busy eating peanuts! read more

Manassas location review: I love Dr. Doyle - she is absolutely wonderful! The staff are exceptional as well. I looked at quite a few dermatologists before I settled on this practice - they also came highly recommended by my general practitioner. I was nervous about getting on Accutane - given the seriousness of the side effects and some of the horror stories I had read - but this office and Dr. Doyle have made the journey easy and comfortable for me. I'm writing about the Reston location. The reason for my rating is mostly for the abysmal follow up treatment following my appointment. This was my first (and last) time coming here. I came here for a routine skin check and to discuss a few skin issues with the doctor. I had left work early for my appointment and was annoyed that it took over an hour later to get seen- I was the last one left in the waiting room for the day. Off to a great start, right? The complete skin exam was very thorough and done not once but twice by two different doctors, which was a bit odd. They basically announced the name of every problem blemish on my skin to another assistant who typed the names into the laptop. Very clinical but thats fine. My real issue was following the appointment which was beyond frustrating. I was prescribed a few medications and told they have a designated pharmacy (Loudoun pharmacy) that they deal with and I'd have to call to get them sent to me. They said if for any reason the medications were very overpriced, please let them know and they'd get the medication changed to something else, no problem. "Great," I thought..but thats when the real hassles began. For the next 4-5 days I called Loudoun pharmacy multiple times and they say that the medication was still somehow not called in there. Then the pharmacy changed their phone number. Finally, I reached them the following week...but its still not called in. I play middle man calling back and forth between the pharmacy and doctors office, leaving voicemails at both. Finally, the pharmacy calls me and tells me the ridiculously high cost for the 3 medications so I have to ask them to go back to the doctor and ask for something else. My mistake...then I get no where with either of them. Astoundingly, NEITHER pharmacy Nor Dr's office call me back. I call each 2-3 more times over the next 3 weeks. Even when in my message I explain I'm upset that they aren't returning my calls, still no response and I get sent straight to voicemail. 2 days a week they are closed. Flash forward...now taking FIVE weeks of this ridiculous game. Finally, I at least reach the pharmacy and they tell me they too have left multiple messages with increased urgency to inquire about my prescription but that the doctor hasn't answered. They tell me I have to call the doctor's office back again. I finally reach the doctor's office during the fifth week...only to be put on hold for 12 minutes...No one ever picks back up, and I had to get off the phone. No call back, no voicemail. No progress. Meanwhile, my skin condition has spread and worsened. Still no resolution. I've never had to put in this much effort for so long to no avail at ANY other dr office Ive ever been to. read more

I am writing about their Manassas Office. I have not been to the Gainesville office. But the Manassas office is wonderful. The people really know their stuff and they are kind, pleasant and make you feel welcome and at home. Lori Dodd PA is the person I have seen twice now and I can't say enough nice things about her. As for the office, even when crowded, they get you through the process and through your appointment in a good time. I see them at the Manassas Prince William Hospital location so it is in the hospital (8650 Sudley Road) and very convenient. They deal with insurance fine and again, so nice and totally know what they are doing. Is great to see. read more

Manassas office visit. I needed to check a skin problem and luckily (?) got in that afternoon. Theresa, at front desk, insisted the insurance ID was the wrong one because it had the word "Dental" on the front, and would not be dissuaded. Called the insurance co. from home and they said it was the right one, but, now, Theresa hadn't kept a copy and needed me to get her another. I did. The Rx sent to my pharmacy was incorrect. I called Theresa and she said it would be fixed that afternoon. The next day, I called her before returning to the pharmacy and she again assured me it was ready. Got to the pharmacy and they hadn't yet heard back from the Drs. office. I called Theresa and she said to return to the pharmacy and tell them to fax the Rx back to her, and, yakity, yak yak . . .! I refused and said it was the Drs. job to get this right and call me back when it was. A short time later she called and I again returned and got the meds. Opening the package, there were no specific instructions for my specific circumstance. I'll call again--I have their number memorized. Dr. Vaid has a pleasant office manner. read more

This review is for the Gainesville location. Every single time I've been to this location for an appointment the consultation has been less than 10 minutes and the prescription never works. The last time I was there they charged me again for my previous appointment because apparently the receptionist from before charged me the wrong copay. Along with making me pay more than the required copay, I was prescribed a $300 prescription that the pharmacy ended up not having because no one ever uses it due to the fact there are cheaper and better treatments out there for my issue (small bumps on my forehead and scalp). They are completely incapable and I have had more luck through my own research. read more

I have been a patient at the Gainesville facility for over ten years, going back to a time before the arrival of Dr. Maggio on the scene. My lengthy association with this practice has given me a unique opportunity to observe long-term trends and offer my opinions based on this lengthy period. In the beginning, the facility was devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of medically determinable skin problems like cancer and precancerous growths, warts, moles, dermatitis, etc. The practice occupied one section of a multipurpose building. However, as time unfolded, the emphasis of the treatments began -- in my opinion-- to shift away from medical dermatology toward cosmetic dermatology. To accommodate this change, two adjacent units in the same multipurpose building were acquired to provide services like Botox injections as well as the other services commonly associated with the "spa" experience. During this transition, in my opinion, Dr. Maggie's skills as a MOHS surgeon may have become rusty...recent procedures were undertaken without sufficiently anesthetizing my scalp, resulting in minor, but unnecessary discomfort. While I am not in a position to offer an opinion on the "spa" services, my opinion of the medical dermatology practice is limited to a qualified rating, modestly endorsing the practice with reservations. If you have a serious or severe dermatology problem, perhaps it would be a good idea to consider the services of physicians whose practice is devoted entirely to the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases, rather than medical staff which split their time between a "spa" and the examining and treatment suite. read more
