I'm done with this group. I've been patient over the years with Renewal Dermatology. I was even excited when they opened an office closer to where I live in Reston. When I went to my appointment they kept me waiting for 45 minutes...that's fine, I understand, but not when I'm the ONLY ONE IN THE WAITING ROOM! If you ever call Renewal you're 90% likely to get a girl on the other end who must be having the worst day of her life... or maybe she's just taking out her frustrations on you. Not only do I feel stupid every time I call and ask a question but they're so condescending towards you. I'm coming in to get my skin checked out, I'm vulnerable, and you're going to belittle me over the phone before I even get there? Who do you think you are? My mother has precancerous cells on her face due to years of being in the sun. She's had to go in multiple times this past year. I was with her just this morning when she called into the Gainesville office. A girl answered who was SO RUDE and then had the audacity to cut her off and keep her on hold for 10 minutes. What are you doing lady? Taking your morning poop!? I'll tell you one thing this group needs a reality check for sure. read more

So my husband got me a gift certificate here for a pregnancy massage. I just got around to getting the massage yesterday. I have to say the booking the appointment was really kinda a pain in the bottom. I called like two weeks ago and it was nearly impossible to get me in this week. The people who worked there seemed cold and not friendly at all. The facility could be better. FIrst of all I hate the chairs in the lobby. They are tiny...and considering this spa is connected to a OB/GYN office...who sees A LOT of pregnant women I would think you would have chairs that a pregnant woman could sit in comfortably. Second of all there is no changing room or sitting room. I was very thirsty and would have loved a glass of water. The massage beds were okay....but not the best. I would probably not go back again. The ladies at the Gardner Park location are prompt, kind and HONEST! Twice when I came in they declined my services because 1) I did not need another Botox injection just yet 2) I put Lidocane, ( a topical pain reliever) on my face before I had some sun damage removed. Tracy explained the lidocane tightened my blood vessels and would make it difficult for the laser to affect the pigment, less effective and possibly more painful. Tracy explained the situation to Tori, a wonderful head staffer, and they made certain I could be fit in their schedule the next day. I got some skin tags removed very painlessly, and some cosmetic preventive procedures, Dr. Jaber was thorough in explaining everything, she was very competent, and it was cheaper than I thought. THIS OFFICE TAKES OVER A WEEK TO FILL PRESCRIPTIONS!! I WILL NOT return to this business ever again. They DO NOT CARE about their patients. I was completely out of my medication, and instead of them simply calling the phone number my insurance provided to give a prior authorization to release my medication to my pharmacy the doctor and his staff just kept saying that they will not call the number, that they will fax it, and it takes 48 hours to do so. WOW, you can't make an exception for a patient that is out of their medicine? Also, why does it take SOOO LONG to prior authorize? My previous dermatologist could get it done in a day. Probably because she used 21st century technology to do so. IT TOOK THEM A WEEK TO GIVE THE PRIOR AUTHORIZATION NEEDED! If you are too lazy to call a phone number for a patient that really needs their prescription then why should I keep coming to your office to give you my business and money? I will just find another office that doesn't take this long. AFTER WAITING A WEEK FOR MY PRESCRIPTION, IT IS THE WRONG ONE! I literally handed the old box to the nurse that was with the doctor so that she could send the correct prescription info to the pharmacy. They couldn't manage to even do this right. Now I guess I will have to GO ANOTHER WEEK WITHOUT MY PRESCRIPTION since they use SNAIL MAIL TO COMMUNICATE WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES and THEY DON'T CARE that I am OUT OF MY MEDS!!! I can't believe I have to waste another week of my life trying to get these people to prescribe the medicine that has been working for my face for six years. I am looking for a local dermatologist. This time it's for a cancer screening. I called the Manassas location and was told the first appointment was 6 weeks away. I am familiar that this is not unusual for dermatology offices. I asked what was the first date available in that time frame and the person I was speaking to on the phone was very rude. She scoffed like I was wasting her time and put me on hold. When she told me the available time, I thanked her meaning to imply I did not need anything else. Then I feel she was rude again when she said she'd need more information for the appointment. I told her I was going to call around to other offices. I should have been more clear when I thanked her to avoid confusion but this person did NOT make me feel comfortable as a potential new patient. I do not agree with the previous review at all. When I called to book my appointment the staff was very gracious and polite. This was my first time at the spa and when i walked in the waiting area is decorated very nice and the chairs were comfortable. The area with products was organized and had plenty of brochures and information. I thought it was very polite of the staff to get me tea while filled out paperwork and waited. I got a facial with Tracy, their Master Esthetician and it was AMAZING! Best facial I have had since moving here and she was extremely knowlegable on products and taking care of your skin. I have attended several of their Open Houses and special events, all of which are usually very nice but this one was the WORST event ever!!!! The staff was rude, unfriendly and had the attitude that "they did not need me, they had the services I wanted and I was annoying them with my presents". Yes, they do have good specials but when the staff will not even smile and they approach you with the attitude of "what do you want", then the specials are not longer special. I arrived at 4:50, they did not have tea, scones, roses, choc cover strawberries....all of which was advertised as thier Valentines Day Special. This review is for a visit to the Reston office for an annual skin exam, and concern about an ongoing rash. There I saw the initial NP whose name I unfortunately can't recall, Sofia and Dr. Maggio. They were all so wonderful and knowledgeable, and made me feel comfortable with both the exam and any questions I had. I have suffered with an unknown rash for years, and was hoping to get a fresh opinion. I was prescribed some medication for the rash that I hadn't been given before - after just a few days, there does seem to be some progress! They also took a sample to test to see if we could get closer to an answer, which has never been offered to me elsewhere. Sofia also recommended some prescription lotion for some occasional acne breakouts with anti wrinkle cream, which I love so far. They also provided lots of coupons and samples. I have used Renewal Med Spa for 4 years since moving to Northern Virginia and I have always been very pleased with the staff and services. I primarily visit for micro-dermabrasion and I have had micro-derm at many spas. I can say without hesitation that the micro-derm services are the best that I have encountered. Also, the staff does not try to hard sell products or additional services. I have always been given good advice for skin care issues. They have great monthly product sales and if they don't answer the phone when I initially call and I have to leave a message they return my calls in a timely manner. I hesitate even giving this office 1 star. It only deserves 1 point of a star, if that. I went to Renewal MedSpa for a dermatology appointment. I felt the reception was okay, but the 'treatment' or 'appointment' was horrible. I went there for a full evaluation. We spoke of 5 issues I felt I had. First, they tried to equate everything to psoriasis. When I pushed the issue a bit more (my toe nail having a white spot and the bottom of my feet really itching) didn't feel like psoriasis, they took a toe nail sample. I was right...it was fungus, not psoriasis. They did not do anything about the itching on the bottom of my feet. Then, without EVER seeing me before, or any of my freckles, they took a biopsy of a freckle I had. They didn't request to view it, talk about the color, they just said, "this will pinch, then we'll put a band aid on it", and that was a good $300 out of pocket for me. They claimed I had Rasia. I don't. They also only send me out with two solutions of the 5 things I went in for, and one of the two, I had to call them and remind them to call in the prescription. When I called...they told me they only handle 3 issues at a time! Out of complete disappointment and frustration, I went to see another (Washingtonian Top 100 Dermatologist) just down the street. I do not have Rosalia, I need to include some 'fish oils' in my diet, it's not all psoriasis. I do have athlete's foot, and he had to fill out the prescription for the toe because Renew Med Spa wouldn't do it without 2-3 more appointments. The new Doctor told me he would NEVER take a biopsy of something he didn't monitor for at least 3-6 months. Renewal Med Spa in Gainesville is a fraud. I STRONGLY recommend people not go there. I was referred by a coworker. My specialist copay is a bit expensive. I have to pay 50 dollars each visit. I went 7 times with the same issue and nothing was resolved. They had me do a patch test and charged me that copay each time. Even after that I went in one week later and after expressing that I could not afford to pay another copay I was told to come in anyways and it would be written off. Months later I received a bill. The billing department who is one person told me that she did not ok that write off and even the doctor wants me to pay the copay. I am now in the process of a appeal because I feel that I was lied to by the front desk and now I cannot do anything about it. Make sure you ask the front desk to pull the billing lady out of her office so that you arent misinformed and charged something that you were told you wouldn't be charged. I regret going because it would have been cheaper and most likely less trips if I were to see a general practice for my issues. I would suggest seeing a primary care doctor and let hie or she recommend a specialist. read more

I was a former patient of Dr. Brady for ten years before his practice merged with Renewal. It is impossible to make an appointment with the new practice. I've called three separate times and left messages as instructed by their automated system - a live person NEVER seems to answer the phone. I have yet to receive a call back. It's been a month. Due to the extreme pain that I am going through I said that I could not wait that long and there response was "Sorry about that" and she immediately hung up on me as well. I ended up on yelp when trying to find Renewal Derm phone number and was so surprised by the reviews! I've seen Dr Jaber for suspicious moles that were determined to be pre-cancerous and needed to be removed. Her bedside manner is excellent and I felt immediately like I could trust her. She was knowledgeable and efficient, while being warm and caring. My incisions healed very well, so I feel she did a great job in that respect as well. I see her at the Gainesville office and have never had an issue with the front desk folks. In addition, my insurance doesn't cover the lab they use and both Dr Jaber and the nurses helped speak to the lab on my behalf to reduce the fees. Have not experienced long waits either. I usually have a 2 and 4 year old with me, so I am thankful for being seen promptly! read more

I made an appointment with the staff there,called back later to request a (percedure code) per my insurance co.via phone & stated I needed the onfo ASAP, I had to leave a message on their answering machine.I requested the procedure code be sent to me via a phone call since no one really answers the phones or returned my phone call. Thats right no one gave a hoot about about this request , just blew it off.Since my appointment date was only 3 days away I called back & cancalled the appointment . I am going to Dr. Maggio as a dermatology patient. The only complaint about the whole experience is that the fronk desk staff is extremely rude. The waiting area is comfortable (I am a larger person and I fit in the chairs quite nicely) and the office is nicely decorated. I love Dr. Maggio and the nurses that helped him. As I said, making appointments and checking-in/out is not a great experience as the front desk staff is rude and not very helpful. My husband and I had an appointment at Renewal Dermatology Gainesville office for a routine, preventative skin check. We booked the appointment as such and told the receptionist before going back that we were there for a preventative skin check. Our insurance covers 100% of the preventative care. The appointment was billed as an office visit, because Renewal Dermatology cannot bill for Preventative since they don't do weight checks or take blood pressure. This was never told to us prior to the visit. When in the room, the doctor will ask if you have any questions. If you ask about a particular spot or area, it is now no longer a Preventative check, it is an office visit. Apparently, you are not allowed to ask anything, just sit there and be checked, but it still won't be coded as Preventative since they didn't take your weight or check your blood pressure. Why pay out of pocket for something that is covered by the insurance at 100%? My husband and I are disgusted in how we were misled and not informed. We should have been informed of this, so that we could have had the choice to go elsewhere if we wanted to use our insurance instead of paying out of pocket. Next time you book an appointment, you now know to ask about this and make certain that whoever you use can and will code your appointment as Preventative care. read more

Renewal MedSpa does not even deserve a one star!!!! Took my 17 yr old daughter in for a Laser upper lip hair removal....OMG! She ended up with a a couple of blisters because the laser tech didnt take the time to chill her lip long enough and used too much heat...this is the only reason why one would burn with Laser tx!! I researched this and read clients who are pregnant,dark skin,going through menopause or on certain meds this can happen.... none of these applied to my daughter! Board certified doctors should be the only one doing this NOT Techs!!! Or you will be at risk!!! I called the office the same day as the treatment and left a message and again and left another message the very next day and I finally got a call from the tech 6 days later!!! She said it was normal if my daughter gets cold sores...I informed her my daughter has never had a cold sore in her life...she said what pharmacy does she use I will call her in some Valtrex!!!! This medicine is used for cold sores I KNOW ...I have had cold sore MY whole life! The tech obviously didnt know this!!!! And was now going to treat her unnecessarily with a drug that she doesn't need!!!! Now my daughter has scabs on her upper lip and it will take 2-3 weeks for them to heal!!! While nobody at this office was very pleasant from the consultation day to the appt day especialy the tech took their sweet time getting back to me!! I researched blistering from laser and found this should NEVER happen!!! and recommend that all patients should see a board certified Dermatologist Dr!!! I DONT WANT TO SEE THIS HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE!!!! Please do not go here for a laser treatment or if you do it will be at your own risk!!!! My daughter now is going to see a Dermatologist tomorrow and has to get an antibiotic cream!!!! What a joke this place is!!! Please do your research people!!! read more
