I have been getting work done on my VW/Audi and BMW by Jake and the guys at Rennen for about 6-7 years. They are the ONLY VW/Audi shop in the state that I would even consider using at this point ... its helpful to go to someone that works on one make exclusively as they are infinitely more familiar with the particular issues of these cars. In January I found myself in need of a second car, so I purchased a 2003 Passat Wagon from Rennen: Buying a used VW from a VW specialist just seemed to make sense to me, as I knew that it would be inspected by someone who I trusted, and actually knew what they were looking at ... not some random moron. So far, 7 months later, the car has been flawless for me, save one random control arm developing play (5mo after purchase - on a 120,000mile car, after a Maine winter) - so this was not a surprise, issue or in any way an expensive fix - all the same, Rennen took care of me with this. I've had service done here in the past on my Audis. They do a great job for a reasonable price. Knowledgeable friendly mechanics that know what they are doing with the German cars. A few years later I ended up trading in that Audi on another used Audi they were selling. A very good buying experience. They have a no pressure staff I have great confidence they go over the cars they sell with a fine tooth comb. They find any problems and fix any issues before putting the car on their lot. Went they're in July of 09 to have work done. I got a new transmission with a peloquin LSD so that it could handle the power my car puts down. Well total I spent $6000 on the whole setup and labor well I'm in the Marines now and don't get a lot of chances to drive my car around so since the work it has about 18k on it. Well the transmission won't shift now and the shop its currently at wants $1500 to fix it. On top of this come to find out the transmission is nothing but eurospecs version of a stock 1.8t transmission. So I paid $6000 for a trans that really only cost $1295 right off eurospecs website. Yep your seeing it right a bunch of robbers over there at Rennen Performance. This wasnt the only issue. They used the wrong size studs on my exhaust manifold and on the turbo and half of them either backed out or snapped off so I had Oceanside Motorsports replace everything and I have not had an issue since. This place is a joke people 1. They will hang you out to dry and 2. They will cut corners and your car will be garbage. Terrible experience I hope no one else will have to deal with their terrible work or get screwed by them. read more

I've done casual business over the years with the folks up at Rennen. A part here, VW question there, and I've always loved keeping up with their projects via Facebook and rennenparts.com. I've never gone to them for a major repair due to living in Southern Maine and their shop being located in Auburn, 33 miles up the pike. After this past week I can't picture myself bringing my VW anywhere else. Last Monday after leaving the gym around 7pm I took off down the road only to last about a 1/4 mile. I had lost response to the engine and the cluster was lit up like a Christmas tree. Pulled off to a side street and tried a couple times to start the engine. Nothing. I had my car towed to the VIP near my house in So. Portland. The next morning I got a call from the shop manager. The timing belt had gone and my engine would need to be replaced. Round number: $5600. Shocked with this repair price since it was higher than my 2003 1.8T's value. I started surfing the web for my next car and while doing so I shot Taber a message via Facebook asking to see if Rennen was interested in my car. I needed to get something for it being in good shape all around and taken care of, her destiny was not to be dumped in a junk yard for the vultures. He responded within the hour and Jake had it loaded up and heading North by dinner time. I had cash in hand. Thursday morning rolls around and I get a call from Taber. They had fixed my car and had it running for about $1600 cheaper than VIP had quoted me. He genuinely felt bad about my situation and offered to sell me back the car for the price of repairs. I was shocked! Shops like this really do exist? I immediately accepted his offer. The car was in great shape for 118k miles and now with a rebuilt head, valves, coil pack, spark plugs, water belt, timing belt kit, fresh oil change and so much more. For my own guilty pleasure I had the car chipped while up there as well. I had my car back Friday morning and couldn't be happier. These guys set the bar HIGH. They care about their work and treat each car that comes through their bay doors as if it's their own. They're very knowledgeable and down to Earth guys. They bent over backwards for me and saved me $$$$$. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking for repairs or maintenance in the area, scratch that, within 50 miles of Auburn.
