Starting at 4 pm you won't get every artist in at every stop. The area has expanded from almost Mt Rose Street to Living Stones on Virginia and around the corner onto California Street. Artists that cover the entire spectrum- painters that use all the different mediums, fashion art, musicians and even food art. You can wander in and out of many shops and check out all the displays and talk to each artist. Hang out in sections roped off to enjoy live music and DJ's and grab a bite from one of the many food trucks or a local restaurant. Our 4 mile hike was quite the adventure on this beautiful sunny afternoon that continues into the cool Reno evening. We saw as much as possible, and found time for a bite of dinner. A wonderful way to spend some time with great friends and check out the local art scene.

Part of the reason was that we got here before the vendors, right at 4pm?!?! A two day event that started at 4pm, but the employees say that all the vendors will NOT show up until tomorrow?!?! For a two day event? Approximately 20 vendors today spread out in the 3 casinos. No one was able to tell us when and where the strolling Mariachis were going to be. Drink specials; see picture. Craft vendors. Free entertainment. I saw JR's Yelp pictures from last year, and it looked like a busier/fuller outdoor event...? Ambiance - Cut and pasted from their website - "Latin-style food, drinks, vendors, and free entertainment." I appreciated and enjoyed the decor. Free parking. See above note. Service - Good. Price - Depends on what you buy. As usual, my wife supported the local vendors. Overall, reasonable prices. The event is free to the public. Owner Comment - Thanks for this event.

It's not all entirely about the food…read more It's about getting together with friends and spending the day in Virginia City and taking in some history and food. This year's Taste was a bit chillier than previous ones, go figure with our weather this year. The check in tent is in the lot next to the Jerky Company. Now you can start at one end of town and walk thru. This year there were some outstanding businesses that truly want to show off their food skills. Top two are Cafe Del Rio and the Cider Factory. Both have always created the best and plentiful offerings. Delta this year took the time to do a little research and made a apple cobbler with a johnnycake topping. The chef here was fun to talk to and her pride showed. Red's had a nice selection of small deli sandwiches. I hate to refer to the next group as disappointments, but after starting out with hits........ Virginia City Jerky Company, Mellow Fellow, And Ponderosa handed very small nibbles of very ordinary bites. Small would be fine but impress me a little. There were 5 cocktail stops. Seventeen places in all. Surprised that VC Brewery was on the list but closed. I also missed the Roasting House not participating this year. The Christmas Store was cute- Mrs Claus handed out cookies and sparkling sangria. All and all a great way to spend the day walking VC for $20

Parking in VC has never been an issue for us, just grab the first open space you find since everything is walkable. The day was a little chilly, and the crowds seemed light...a great day to be in VC! Our first stop was checking in for our whiskey and cigars, and holy cow, that was a lot of whiskey! We made 3 trips back to that tent and still couldn't use all our whiskey coupons! The single jack drilling competition was amazing to watch! Those folks are TOUGH! It's hard to have a bad time in VC, and we were there with friends celebration their anniversary (married at Mackay Mansion in '16) but I could help but notice the event just seemed to lack quality bites, especially with that much whiskey! Mellow Fellow said they "ran out" by noon and seemed to be ignoring patrons...surely they would have been advised on how many people were expected to participate. The Silver Queen literally had a 1" piece of hot dog with ketchup. Meh. Cheers to the Cider Factory, who's roasted green chili and chicken bisque and chicken bacon sliders saved the day! The Palace had nice chili, Silver Spoon featured grandma's recipe sauce with meatballs, and the Delta made a lovely spiced apple cornbread dessert. I can see from past year's maps that business participation seemed less this year, but we left hungry. I'm glad we tried this event, and we still love VC, maybe it'll rebound in years to come.

They were on top of everything, from the parking staff to ticket staff and all the vendors. I waited in line with the other thousands of people and we were ready for a great time. Well a great time is what they provided. The vendors were a plenty and nothing was left undone. For 25.00 per adult and kids under 12 free there was so much to offer. To the left was the beautiful and very friendly Rockstar girls taking photos with fans and giving out great samples of new flavors and then i looked to the right and thought to myself wait a minute, is that Jeremy Mcgrath? Yes it was along with all the drivers and all the cars for you to walk right up and look at. The 25.00 ticket was for the open pit and meet all the drivers. After meeting the drivers and checking out the cars now it's time to get seated, this is gonna be great. The roar of the engines and the and the craziness of the fast,high flying cars and truck had the crowds going wild. Looking around I could see this was a great place for a family to spend the day. Every year on a Saturday (except covid, damn it) rain or shine the old mining town of Virginia City, NV hosts the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry during the St Patrick's Day celebration. Contestants are all giving the same beef balls or testicles and are challenged with creating a unique dish to share with festival goers. This year's set up was a bit different. The main stage, beer tent and ticket pick up was in the Old National Hotel parking lot. The vendor tents were set up on C Street from that intersection to Sutton. 2024 was a perfect year. A beautiful 60 degree sunny day brought out about 1000 attendees. I highly recommend pre-buying tickets online around mid February so you don't miss out. All Ball or Sample Ball tickets can be bought. Along with Leprechaun Crawl passes. They can also be purchased as a package for a discount. For the last several years my friends and I have been making this an event weekend. Arriving in VC Friday morning to enjoy the town on a quiet level. And to be able to walk in at 9:30 am and pick up our tickets. Stroll the vendors while they are prepping. Then at 10 am start the sampling. The purchase day of line was almost two blocks long by 10:30. we were able to take our time and enjoy each bite without waiting in any lines over 10 minutes. 2024 had a few usual suspects and some newbies- Cajones Caliente - jalapeno poppers, their usual Nut Up or Shut Up - egg rolls, their usual but seemed like the recipe was different Ball Bangers- bangers and mash. Huge kudos to this group for creating mini bangers and serving them with mashed potatoes and gravy to about a 1000 people. Cafe Del Rio- local restaurant, slow braised smoky taco with citrus slaw was delicious. Mustang Ranch- Texas Testes Chile Verde, was quite good Hey D's Nuts- tamales de testes aka nut sacks. Dry, could have used the above chili verde and been a winner Dolls and Balls- corned bull hash, great flavors, I like mine a bit crispier. Hillbilly Chili- deep fried meatballs with Irish drizzle. Very well done, double coated for great crunch, well seasoned, and the green drizzle was delightful. A top three for my group. Men Welding Fire- repeated testicle tacos. Disappointing, I wasn't thrilled this year or last. Cold shell, lettuce, cheese and salsa on hot unflavorful meat. Team Holy Balls- BBQ balls in pasta wrapped in bacon. These guys were my choice and the festival winner. Testicle sausage stuffed in a manicotti shell wrapped in bacon and grilled. See that picture below. How could you go wrong. Kastration Kreation- deep fried sausage with jalapeno. Great flavor and bites of crispiness. You are given one golden ticket. This is dropped in the bucket of your favor team. At the end of the day they are tallied for crowd favorite. Official judges started at 10 am, we kept bumping into them. Teams are judged on presentation, taste and originality. At noon you can take a ball break and enjoy the St Patty's Day Parade on the south end of C Street.

What an uplifting experience filled with wonderful friends and family. The oyster this year were…read moreserved in numerous innovative ways, it was a challenge to judge who was the best. All of the vendors were exceptionally nice and kind. There were abundance of personality and warm welcoming smiles. There was so much time and effort that went into crafting the delectable balls. There really wasn't a disappointing aspect. I'm eagerly looking forward to next year.
