We had an extremely valuable lesson today with Derek who mentioned his military and PD training. It showed - he was highly professional and knowledgeable - he made sure we left feeling confident and knowledgeable as well. He asked what our goal was at the beginning of the lesson and knew exactly the type of training we needed He exceeded our expectations by far. My first time here and I had to register to get into the system - pretty easy. The guy behind the counter says when you enter the room, "eyes and ears". Eyes and ears WHAT?? Yesterday 1/27 I attended an Intro to Hanguns class given by Daniel Smith. He was amazing. I'm a first time gun owner in need of understanding how to use safely. His honesty was refreshing. Daniel is a veteran who served this country with passion. As an instructor he was direct and pointed out several times that the gun was the tool and your head is the weapon! Guns can be scary. I'm no pro but I'm learning and very respectful. I was going to be in Reno so I figured I would bring a few guns and find a range to shoot. My niece Chloe, son Charlie and his friend Anton came along. I'm again no pro, but Chloe and Anton were complete novices. Reno Guns and Range were fantastic. On the phone they were welcoming and invited us down. When we got there it was a quick sign in and then they walked us through the process. I came prepared with two sets of "eyes" and "ears" but we needed a 3rd and 4th set. RF&R has everything to rent or buy if you don't have all the gear, or forget something. They even have some fun guns to rent and shoot. In California you don't get to shoot AK-47's too often, ha ha. We waited a few minutes and got two lanes. The handler/watcher was super kind and helped explain the rules and guidelines. We shot my vintage Colt Woodsman 22 LR, and my new Buckmaster 22 LR. Super fun and easy guns to load, fire and manage. I also brought the Glock 17. Wow, now that has some power. RG&R had 9 mm ammo to purchase for shooting. 9 mm is hard to find these days so I appreciated not having to use my limited personal supply. I was a bit surprised they didn't have the 22 LR ammo but I had brought enough rounds for the day. Everyone got plenty of shooting in! Overall, i would highly recommend Reno Guns and Range. The shop and range was very, very clean. They staff were all knowledgeable and very helpful. It was our first time and we never felt out of place or unwelcome. 5-stars. Highly recommended. read more

I just completed the Intro to Handgun Class and I highly recommend this class for people of all ages (our class had folks from 10 to 66 years old!) admittedly I was very nervous at first as I had never handled or fired a weapon. However, the instructor, Daniel Smith explained everything thoroughly and by the time we made our way to the range I felt confident in shooting my first gun! While I have a long way to go and practice makes perfect, this 66 year old woman has found a new hobby to share with her husband! Totally worth the time investment! So my son turned 13 and he has always wanted to shoot a gun. I thought this would be a great gift. I found Reno Guns using yelp. We walked in and this place was awesome. They had some pretty cool guns. They even had the Stracatto *P. I have never shot this firearm. Let me say after this, I will regret shooting this gun because now I want one. The check in was easy. Now it was time to pick guns. I let my son choose the guns. He chose a Glock, Taurus (I don't even know why he chose this gun), and the Stracatto. A rule they have which I wish I would have known was you must buy their ammo. This sucks because I happened to buy ammo at Scheels at a much cheaper price. These were factory loads and not reloads. The ammo here is expensive. I think I paid 30 bucks a box for 9mm. Thats almost twice what I paid for factory loads at Scheels. Moving on, this place has range safety officers which is good. Now it was time to shoot. The range here is on point. Very clean. As for my wife and son shooting? They had a BLAST! This was their first time shooting and they loved it. It was such a good experience. The staff here were super awesome. Very nice and attentive to our needs. In the end, rental of three guns, three shooters even though I didn't shoot, I was instructing, two boxes of ammo, three targets and eyes and ear rentals cost a whopping $192. Pretty steep if you ask me. I still think it was the best gift I could give to my son though. He really enjoyed it. read more

While I did not venture to that side of the store, it appeared to me that this must be a popular shooting range for Reno-ians. Not one to talk bad about something unless I have had multiple experiences and I have had nothing but that dealing with the retail side of this operation. I have been coming in over the last few months for a plethora of reasons. From building ARs to transferring sig fire control units into new grip modules. That being said I am never more irritated leaving a shop than when I leave reno guns and range. I'll start with one of the ARs I built. I was looking for an A2 length buffer tube assembly and stock. They had a carbon fiber stock (not what I wanted but was still willing to buy it to complete the rifle.) The kid walks up to the counter with the part sets the stock down and walks down this hallway never to be seen again. I stood there for about 5 minutes wondering where my sales guy went. After another employee asked me if he was ringing me out I replied "well I thought he was". A minute later I turned around and left. A few weeks later I was coming in for some glock parts and some holsters. I was told they don't nor have they ever carried the parts I was looking for and when I pulled it up on their website I was just given a blank stare like the salesperson was having a stroke. Most recently I came in to look for a new grip module for a sig p320. I saw an X5 weighted grip module in black on their website and ran over to see if they had it. Giddy as a school boy that I could possibly make my tac ops carry operate like my X5 legion in a few short hours I walk into the shop and walk straight to the Sig parts. Couldn't find what I was looking for so I went up to the counter where 3 retail staff were standing there. Not watching customers, not selling anything. Just standing there. I ask for some help and let the young man know what I was looking for. He proceeds to tell me they have the TXG modules with no magwell. And they don't carry the one I inquired about. So I told him I saw it on the website. He proceeds to tell me that they don't carry everything on SIGs website. No shit? So I ask him "this is Reno guns and range right? Renoguns.com right? I find the grip module I saw and wanted to purchase which I will include for this review and showed it to him. Again with the blank stroke stare and then he says "well that's what we can get not what we have. That's our distributor." Totally understand. I work in sales and I understand logistics as well as the current state of supply chain issues. But when he assumed I was looking at the wrong website and then wants to explain it to me like I'm stupid that was the last straw. I will never shop here for anything again. There are too many gun stores in this town to waste your time with the horrendous service I have received from this shop across multiple employees. I can't speak for the range side since I haven't used their range in years but when they first opened the range was top notch. read more

Range night!!! I just found out in an email Reno Guns & Range have been running matches for quite some time, go figure always late to the party. Tonight they ran three courses of fire. they score you on hits in specific zones on the targets and time you. The fee was a mere $30. and the most important part, they gave a safety briefing and everything was run very safely. I think a fun time was had by all I hope, it sure let's you know of any deficiencies real quickly, the holes on paper are hard to lie. Everyone shoots out of the holster so this is not a novice shooter's match, this is definitely geared towards more advanced shooters, but we all have to somewhere. I think for the uninitiated, watching the different stages of fire would let you know if this is for you. I think they hold this match every 1st and 2nd thursday every month. The RO's(range officers) kept the stages of fire going at a brisk pace, once the RO gave the command "load and make ready", it was up to you to get your pistol in the condition you want for shooting the stage of fire, then the RO will say "is the shooter ready," you don't need to acknowledge it's just the order of the commands given, the next command is "standby", then the buzzer is sounded, now the fun starts, you are off to the races, you need to engage the targets in the order you deem fit and shoot the targets according to the how many shots are required by the course of fire, when you've completed your course of fire, the RO will command you to unload and show clear, which means you unload the gun pointing in a safe direction and the RO will visually inspect your gun is safe, have you drop the hammer or pull the trigger, once again pointed in a safe direction and have you holster the empty gun. Once you have holstered your empty gun, the RO goes up to score you targets, once you have verified the proper scores, you will then approve the scores on their tablet, then start over until all the stages of fire have been completed. What a great way to work up an appetite for dinner, I was done by around 9:30 p, perfect time for dinner. If you are fairly proficient, this would be a great way to improve your skills, and if not , it will help you to improve and give you a plan as to what you need to improve. read more

I was up in Reno for the rib cook off and had some time to kill so i decided to stop by and do some shooting. Had a buddy with me that hasn't shot in a very long time and was a little aprehensive but from the moment we walked in and were greeted by Bill our expierience was outstanding. Bill walked us through the sign in procedure and helped us pick out the machine guns to shoot. I unfortunately forgot the instructor that helped us in the range but he was absolutely outstanding. His calm demeanor, professionalism and praise helped my buddy with his confidance and he did excellant. The safety was on point, as an example when i shot the scar17 they explained to the other shooters in the range that i was going to make some noise and to step back so they wouldnt be alarmed After we were done shooting we wandered throught the store and the sales staff helped me pick out a ccw holster. The gun smith shop seems to not do quality work. I brought my handgun in to have it inspected for safety and integrity. When I picked it up they said it was safe. Couple days later I fired it at their range. Out of approximately 20 rounds, it misfired six times. I have owned this handgun for over 45 years , it is always function flawlessly . It was a soft hit on the primer. I mentioned this to the staff. It was suggested that perhaps the Springs needed to be replaced. I thought this was reasonable. I ordered the Springs from an outside source as instructed by Reno gun range staff. About 2 weeks later the springs arrived. The morning before I return the handgun to have the new spring set installed, I noticed the firing pin was sticking out, fully forward. I told the staff about this. They made a note for the gunsmith. The gunsmith (not the original guy who did the safety inspection) told me the spring for the fine pin was missing. He also said something about a block which I have yet to figure out. I talked to the management. I told them that the spring was not reinstalled during the first safety check. I wasn't asking for anything in return. I was not asking for a refund I would not asking for credit nothing I just wanted to let them know that this of safety concern and their gunsmiths should take a little more care. The manager seem to be unable to grasp this and he came up with all excuses and suggested that I did something wrong. This handgun had not been touched by anybody or disassembled for approximately 45 years. I put over 15,000 rounds through the gun since then and it has performed flawlessly. I suggest if you need gunsmith work go somewhere else. If you want to fire at the range. It does seem to be a good range read more

Sleaziest firearm buying experience I've had in 30 years of Reno residence. Purchased some accessories from their online warehouse and had to collect the delivery at their store - OK, prices were fine, selections had been sitting in the warehouse for so long that the container's ink was beginning to rub off on the steel foregrips I had purchased, and everything was covered in dust. Odd, but not excessive, even if I had to pay shipping to go to their shop which then eliminated cost-savings on anything over their competitors - at least I could pick it up somewhere secure and wouldn't deal with shipping perfidy. While I was there I saw a used Desert Eagle .44 on sale, advertised at 1650$ with 2 magazines, marked down from 1750$. Went back a week later to purchase, and they charged me the 1750$ price, having changed the tag after I had called to see if it was still there for sale that morning. While finishing paperwork, they informed me they had lost the case, the second magazine, and the proprietary cleaning tool required for a DE's bolt takedown (probably why it had been marked down to 1650, but definitely not on the advert placard next to the gun). 5 Days later, after finding a .44 DE brand new from one of their big-box-store competitors for only 25$ more, I called to see if I could cancel the transaction, since they still had not called me with a background check (though I had gotten the other in less than a day waiting period) clearance to finalize the transaction. They said they would check with the manager rather than telling me anything about the purchase, and asked me not to issue a chargeback with my bank. They emailed me less than an hour till closing time to tell me I had a gun ready for pickup. Arriving to pick up the firearm the next morning, they still hadn't found a box or the other mag or the takedown tool & instructions; the gun was extremely dirty and they had just run a rag through the barrel to clean it out after someone had been blasting away with it (bolt, muzzle brakes were filthy) all weekend at their range, most likely. I asked the on-duty supervisor if the price markdown had been because they had lost all the other equipment, after they had charged me the original listing price; their only response (rather than refunding the 100$, made no effort to correct the price or pay it back) was that "this shouldn't have happened." After signing the disclaimer that I was picking up the gun after the background check had cleared (funny, nobody could call or e-mail for the 4 business days in-between sale and pick-up), they didn't even have a spare cardboard box or a plastic bag to put the DE in; they handed me the uncleaned gun at the exit door and thanked me for my business, leaving me walking through their parking lot with what effectively amounted to a criminal brandishing charge. Taking it home, it was absolutely filthy on the interior. The only reason I didn't charge it back was because there's a 2-year lead for replacement MRI parts, and I wanted spare parts for my new DE - and the magazine that was included with my RG&R purchase was a knock-off, 3rd party magazine. Obviously, the employees know this and the value of the parts and sold off the parts after stealing them from one of their access-controlled storage rooms. Do not trust these people to sell you firearms and check to make sure all the inventory that should come with a firearm is in the box if you do purchase one there. These folks are only in business because they've got an indoor range, and their employees evidently steal whatever they can. Update: sold the gun at another big box retailer, as MRI informed me the spring had been so thoroughly damaged from the incorrect placement of the gas piston I was probably due for a new spring in less than 300 rounds; their expected retail for the gun (no damage or change from RG&R purchase) was about $1300 - these guys overcharged a hell of a lot for a damaged firearm. Altogether it cost me 800$ to find out how duplicitous of a retailer this company is. read more

I hired a coach for my teen son's first day on a range. The retired police officer was knowledgeable, professional, and friendly.

The Russian employee while checking in my sister was very rude and condescending when she was trying to fill out the form on the computer so she could use the range. When we told another employee, he let us know that the Russian is one of the best shooters in the country. In other words, he didn't care either how his coworker spoke to my sister the customer. He just wanted to talk about what a great shooter the guy was. I had to tell the guy checking in my sister would you go over to the computer and help her out? He shook his head and let out a big sigh as he complained about walking over there to his coworker. No care in the world about being kind to the customer is what our experience was. read more

I booked a 1 hour private lesson here last week to try out my new Rose Sig Saur P365XL and wow did I make the best decision of my life to do this! Bill who helped me get used to my new gun and understand how to handle everything for a first time owner, also figuring out what grain I would be most comfortable with was the best instructor I could have asked for! If I lived here I would be signing up for a membership in a heartbeat!!!! Not only did this place make me feel like family instantly but the fact they also had a safety officer on range made me feel so comfortable! This place gets 10/10 more if I could. The staff members were very friendly and helped us with weapon selection and even basic operations of guns we never fired like a lever action for example. we walked in there were lots of employees no customers they didn't greet us then directed us to a laptop to create a profile the laptop didn't work well it took an act of god to get any help as the employees were too busy talking to each other, I had a bad feeling the minute I walked in and so my husband and I left without spending a dime. This morning we went to RAC guns in Sparks a completely opposite experience, everyone I've talked to says the Reno range is not a good place to go it's not a reputation a business should want. read more

Recently moved out to Reno for work from CA. Of course, the first things I'm going to do is visit some gun shops. It's cool this shop rents guns and has its own indoor range. I didn't use any of those services and only purchased parts I needed for my guns. Very welcoming staff. Cool to engage with and didn't have a problem answering my questions. One thing I would say that's a con are the prices of the products. Not sure if there is price matching to online; didn't ask, but they are kind of on the pricier side. They could be a little more competitive. Aside from that, they are very stocked up. Do not hesitate to visit this shop if you need parts. read more

Possibly the worst firearm store I've ever experienced. They sold a large amount of faulty 300 BLK ammo, I purchased 100 rounds. I experienced a squib load the ended up causing enough damage to require a new barrel ($150). The gunsmith asked me if this was caused by ammo from Reno Guns as he had repaired several. I attempted to return the remainder of the ammo. While the manager admitted they knew about issues from this lot he refused to stand behind it. The manager actually suggested I shoot it and just be prepared for squibs! Any store is only as good as the employees working there. There appears to be a serious culture problem at Reno Guns and Range. Thankfully there is a new store/range in Sparks that is an absolute pleasure to do business with. read more
