Rarely has there ever been a good reason to the emergency room, unless someone is having a baby or something but I have been very fortunate the few occasions I've had to go to Renown's Emergency, the medical staff took very good care of me. It's takes a certain kind of person to be a nurse, doctor or EMT and Renown's medical staff earnestly seem to be very dedicated to providing excellent quality of care; they're so friendly, professional and wonderful bedside manner, I feel very at ease whenever I interact with them. As negative as the reason I had for going to the emergency, I had a pleasant and positive experience with Renown's staff. My mother only critique is when I had to go to the emergency, the emergency parking lot was full, so I had drive away and park to the nearest Renown parking structure, to the right of the emergency entrance and unfortunately there was construction at the main road too. Fortunately, I found a parking spot at the ground level but I had to walk all the way back to the emergency room entrance and according to the receptionist I asked the fastest way from the parking lot to the emergency room was just following the sidewalk path outside; had my condition been a really dire one, all that walking would've been really inconvenient. Maybe Renown would consider adding additional parking spaces by the emergency room entrance? That's my only suggestion/critique. read more

I wish you could leave negative stars. I took my husband there last night as he was having trouble breathing and having chest pains. After triage we waited over 2 hours and still had not been taken to a room to be seen by a doctor. I asked the desk and explained his breathing is getting worse, especially with visitors coming in with over powering perfume and cologne. The person at the desk said they would update the charge nurse. Almost 45 minutes later still nothing so we left. In that time I saw people brought in by ambulance and were pushed into the waiting room to wait to be seen. Like really, isn't that the put of being brought in by an ambulance??? Absolutely horrific experience in the er and clearly there is no rush on getting anyone care. With all the money they spend on new facilities you would think they would have updated this er, it is lost in time and looks like it did 30 years ago. I hope Kaiser buys Renown out, then maybe we actually get doctors and better care. Also, my husband is still having issues and was never seen last night, and of course with your very apparent doctor shortage I can't even find a new doctor for him since his last one left. read more

Nobody wants to go to the ER so when I bullied my husband into going this morning after a fall in the night, I couldn't have been more impressed with the staff and the whole experience. Upon arrival Daniel did a top notch job of taking vitals and explaining what was going to happen next. I was allowed to go to his assigned room and wait while a CT was performed. Katie took awesome care of him and in a few minutes he was hooked up to the IV for hydration. Dr. Bret Frey could not have been more concerned or compassionate while taking care of my hubby. I was seen by the ER and then admitted into the hospital for several days. They took my situation seriously brought in the right experts to consult on it and then did not hesitate to administer the correct treatment. This was a whole sea change from the "care" I had been receiving for the last month where various doctors refused to treat me correctly and unfortunately the problem spiraled. I was grateful for the thoughtful and very attentive service here and the good doctors - I have met about five of them so far. The facilities are spacious new and very nicely appointed the rooms are quite nice honestly they look like an apartment. It is freaking awful to be in the hospital but they are making me as comfortable as possible. Sure the food sucks and the toiletries suck I smell like a baby's butt, but that is pretty standard for a hospital. read more

Very bad experience. They overreacted to an incidental finding that did not need treatment and was unrelated to the problem, giving me a drug that was potentially dangerous for me. They logged my ECG incorrectly saying I had a heart attack. They put me in a shared room with someone coughing directly onto the path to the shared bathroom and I have a chronic lung disorder. Then when I left against medical advice before they could do any more harm they wrote an incorrect and insulting reason as to why I left. The incorrect entries in the records contributed to having an important diagnostic procedure canceled two weeks later. They did fix the ECG report after I complained later, but they refused to fix the reason for leaving against medical advice. I will have to insert a rebuttal into the record. read more

Last week I had a horrific fall and broke my hip. I told the guy in the ambulance to take me to the best hospital in Reno, not caring how long it took to get there. Upon arriving I was surprised to see how huge it was; there was at least 50 rooms. The different areas go by red, blue, green...I understand that triage is how it works in the ER and I wasn't a top priority. It's like hurry up and wait. The nurses on duty were all very caring and kind as they should be. I was in unbearable pain and they gave me medicine straight away...next the doctor on duty came and told me X-rays were the next step. They came back and showed a broken hip ;( The dr. arranged for me to have emergency surgery the next morning. At about 2 a.m. they moved me up to my room. I was surprised that it was a private room...it was so nice because I didn't expect it. I was pretty impressed with the staff in the emergency room. The facility was super clean. The only negative is employees were loudly talking, laughing and forgetting that people are in pain and suffering. read more

I came to this hospital as a snowboarding accident, the doctors and nurse (Ben) was quick to blame everything on alcohol when I couldn't sit up without being extremely nauseous and dizzy and couldn't walk unless my nurse was holding up. I was unsafely discharged and was told, "you're a nurse you get it". Fast forward FOUR days later when I'm home and still experiencing the same symptoms so my primary ordered a MRI that revealed microbleeds and a neurosurgeon classified my injury as a major concussion. February 20, 2023 I would like to address my most recent experience in this facility and the Emergency Room process. On the evening in question I was very ill, to the point of not being able to stand, sit, effectively communicate, or even walk without assistance. It was later determined by the blood tests that I had Sepsis if the blood due to an untreated UTI. The E.R staff kept stating that I needed to sit up in a chair, however, I was entirely too weak and sick to do that. I was throwing up every 5 minutes or so and had been for a while before coming in so you can imagine I had little to no strength left in my body. My husband and I moved to the back of the waiting room nearest the bathrooms so as not to disturb the other people waiting to be seen. I was attempting to lie down on a bench as I literally could not sit or stand without falling over from the nausea and weakness. After many lectures about "sitting up straight" The staff finally brought me back to another area, kind of a hallway between their offices. I was still unable to sit. I would have thought when a patient arrives that is too weak and sick to sit or stand there would be a little more compassion instead of lectures. I was treated like a nuisance. When I was finally offered a gurney to lie down on my husband helped me onto it and at that point things became much easier, I was still throwing up and pain was starting to radiate through my lower left side of my abdomen but at least I wasn't relegated to the dirty floor any longer. Why on earth does your staff expect a seriously ill and weak person to be able to sit up straight in a chair??? If I was able to sit up and be coherent I would not have been in the EMERGENCY ROOM. A lady arrived to take me to get a CT scan; I was weak but able to walk slowly with help. As we left the room she suddenly turned and rudely stated to the staff who was standing there that "I cannot scan this" (her words) like I am some sort of an object instead of a human being in need of emergency care. I am not a "this" I am an adult woman who deserves compassion when seriously ill, not mockery and disdain. I am very disheartened that your ER staff treated me like a nuisance instead of a 54 year old woman who came to your Emergency Room for compassion and help because I was too weak and sick to take care of myself. read more

I went to this hospital because I had a severe allergic reaction, and was in serious pain. I just moved here 10 days ago from California btw. So when I went to get seen it was like the ghetto all over again. first of all you have to go through metal detectors which I thought this was not a prison but sure the heck felt like that. The nurse there in the emergency room named Amanda who is bipolar and does not stay in her lane needs to be reprimanded from her RN license. First of all when I sat down on their dumb benches that have no privacy or HIPPA laws for privacy once so ever. So there is NO PRIVACY. The lady Amanda thinks she is top dog and she is mot she is so rude and beyond. She did not know why I was there or anything. I have my bachelors in BSN as well and will be working at St. Mary's but the fact is that she had the hold emergency upside down because she did not know how to stay in her lane. First of all most places have a stand in line order not just here sit on this bench and not know who is next or not. That was the problem she did not know who was next so I had said I was next and she got butthurt and said she had a few above me when I was next. She seriously is a power tripper. I had my daughter there and my husband and she kept accusing me of swearing when I never was even talking to her. I didn't even use a bad word the entire time. After she couldn't just stay in her lane my husband had to get involved and tell her to back up because she does not my mental state since again I WAS NOT EVEN TALKING TO HER, she kept interupting my conversation with my husband. and again would not stay out of my conversation because she was so fixated on me. She does not know how to handle a situation because I could of been there for suicide reasons and she could of been the final straw with her loud mouth who would not shut up. I only give 1 stars for the ONE nurse up front. As I sit in a room for over 30 mins waiting for the nurse and Dr. Nurse walked in asked one question and said well I don't see it and walked out. Horrible bed side. If I wasn't worried about my health I would immediately leave. Empathy is severely lacking. We come to ER with concerns, just to feel as if you are an inconvenience! Renown Regional Emergency Room is good. But they have vampires that like to suck your blood here haha (aka lab techs and nurses). Haha just kidding the staff is great here. I never had any real complaints about their service. I feel like 90% of people who come here is for pain or just not feeling good. So you are probably at your worst. Coming for a patient stand point I try to be nice because one it just nice to be nice and I'm sure they are probably dealing with a difficult patient in other room. But my stand point is that it's not the nurses, staff and doctors giving me the pain. It's some little burgers we cant even see because it in my body that giving me pain. So, no need to be annoyed at the nurse, staff or doctors. Their not the once causing you the pain. My nurse was Michelle and CNA way Amy. I had a few different nurses and CNAs to help me, but all of them were pretty awesome. Thank you very much for the hard work you guys do. If I had alot of money I would give you guys quite a bit but I'm not made of money hehe. I can only image what you guys have to deal with. I always try to be the best patient I can be because I know these nurse, CNAs and all staff at the hospital are always tasked out to the max. Praise on your outstanding work. So, I have checked in at their emergency room a hand full of times not including going with family or friends. But everytime we have checked in we have never had any really issues. Parking can be an issue but if you really need it they have valet and they are good to use in a rush. But they do have a good size parking garage. But for the sevice of care I would have to say experience was good. I felt like they took the time to say hello and introduce themselves. All staff really from the nurse, the payment personnel, x-ray techs, the doctors, etc. They all seem to be very nice and cared. The doctor explains my situation and the option for my condition. Yeah, I didn't have many haha. But he explained to me tha due to a certain criteria I only had one option. It took time to go from getting pain meds to manage the pain and surgery. But I feel like they handle my car every well and that's all I can ask for. One piece of advise it not pleasant to be in pain but the nurses, staff and doctors here seem to really care about helping. Let them do their jobs and not let your condition/pain dictate how you precieve their efficiency and capabilities. I give them the benefit of the doubt. Thanks for reading my review. read more

This place was very attentive. They had a great staff! The wait was not long even on a Saturday night! The cases management staff could be a little more friendly, but it didn't affect my views on the facility. The nurses are amazing, the doctors were very nice and detailed. I wasn't able to capture any pictures as my phone died. They also have a free charging station for any type of phone. You lock it in a locker and walk away! Super simple! The place is a very clean and organized. I would recommend their service, just not looking forward to the bill even with health insurance! Lol read more

Your nurses at the ER are just straight pos! My wife was in a car accident & after the ambulance took her to the ER they left her sitting in the waiting room in serious pain from the accident! I had to ask the nurses several times please help my girlfriend she's in serious pain & they look at you like your f...... Stupid!!! Just the Best Team this side of the Sierra mountains. Came in after chemo with a bad case of H Pylori and was treated with such Professional, Friendly and Awesome Care. my family member was brought in a bad place with his terminal illness, to make dumping him off into another facility they took him off his nuerological meds cold turkey knowing he could have seizures or extreme with drawls, the refused to admit him I found out it was because then they are responsible for him! when I asked about his meds I was told flat out no facility will take him on these meds so they took him off. not only was he terminal and in terminal agitation, now he's going through with drawl! his advanced directives said zero testing, they took blood, also a catheter, his advanced directives said zero I've, anything, I'm his POA they never asked me or even told me, but I found out because he pulled out the catheter which caused more harm! the 3 hospitalist were shocked the ER took him off his meds, I walked up to the counter only to hear the case worker talking about my situation, my family member at the front desk! I stood there and introduced myself as the one she was talking about! they made a bad situation so much worse! he was suffering so much! I'm so happy I listened to the hospitalist that advised me what to do! so it wasnt the floor he had been moved up to, accept the front desk talking about my situation which was horrific in itself, but the Er actually taking a patient off a nuero drug 3 of them cold turkey, put in a catheter, blood work with not one question to me, or even asking if it was ok! advanced directives don't mean much if there going to ignore them! to hear the reason made me sick! we can't get him out of our er until he's off the meds, no one will take him! very sad! Renoun in patient hospice refused him as well! according to every staff member they don't think the department exists, every patient referred gets rejected! I would love to know if they indeed have a acute inpatient hospice which all 3 hospitalist said my loved one needed but was denied! my family members own Renoun Drs could not believe how he was treated! let alone caused him into with drawl! very sad for someone that is already suffering from a terminal disease, they caused more suffering! there's nothing harder then to watch your family member suffering. I took my dad to the ER at around 2 AM on the night of November 7, 2018 for chronic back & nerve pain, which he described as a level 10. We dealt with 4 different nurses (two male and two female) that were all apathetic, uncommunicative, and unsympathetic. Every single nurse acted annoyed that they had a patient to deal with. Not a single nurse introduced themselves. None of the nurses communicated the procedures that they were doing until asked. They all left the room without a word to communicate what we should expect next. Whenever a nurse left the room, a different one would come back. There was absolutely no consistency in my dad's care. The final nurse, Jessica (I happened to notice her name tag), hooked my dad up to a 15 minute IV drip and left the room. My dad started vomiting, and had I not been there to run into the hall to ask for an emesis bag, he would have vomited everywhere. The machine started beeping, but I couldn't find the call buzzer anywhere (it was not clearly marked if it exists). I had to call in another nurse who was passing by in the hallway because Jessica did not come back until she saw the other nurse in our room. She said that she had been sitting at the nurse's station, which was not within sight of our room. During our interactions she seemed very tired and not very alert or attentive. In addition, the nurses did not update the dry erase boards in the rooms with the current information, such as the name of the nurse on duty and the correct date. The last date written on the dry erase board in our room was from two days prior! It was NOT a busy night and the nurses were all sitting around chatting and listening to loud music. I am giving 1 star due to the lack of communication, apathy and terrible bedside manner that I know is not the standard of Renown. My mom is a retired Renown RN, so I know that nurses receive better training and are held to higher standards than what we experienced. Every patient should feel validated and cared for by their healthcare professionals (whom we are PAYING for their services, by the way). read more

The nurses and Doctors on staff here are excellent and deserve 5 stars. However, the department responsible for cleaning rooms and "scheduling/managing beds" is in charge at Renown Regional. We took my 89 year old Uncle to the ER at 11:40AM. We're still waiting on a room to be cleaned and prepped 9 hours later...... The doctors and nurses are powerless to do anything. No bed ready, you wait, and wait, and wait, and wait. No explanation, no reason, no estimate of when. Just, they're working on it. Absurd. The system, if there is one, is obviously broken. May the person "in charge" of "bed management" live long enough to suffer the same apathetic uncaring service 100x over. When it impacts revenue at Renown maybe senior leadership will do something to replace inept and unprofessional leadership in charge of "bed management". I encourage everyone with a similar experience to file a complaint with the hospital administrator and local BBB. read more

I had severe chest pain for many hours and had to go to Renown Emergency Room for care early morning 4/14. WOW! The staff was so rude and unpleasant I cannot begin to describe the poor behavior of the individuals that interacted with me. The way I was spoken to by the intake staff; abrupt and condescending tones, expecting me to understand what they wanted from me without explaining their procedure and rolling of eyes and sarcastic comments when I did not perform the tasks and motions as they wanted. I was already in severe chest pain, holding my chest and moaning, yet no one seemed to care that I was suffering. Not one person introduced themselves to me and explained their purpose of interacting with me. Multiple persons had name badges that were covered or turned around. One person was particularly rude and abrupt with me and I told them I thought they were being rude and asked them their name and they replied something like "You're rude too!!" And when I asked them their name a security guard that was standing behind me at a podium said something like "Lady, don't talk to the staff like that...." Unbelievable!! Then I guess the word got around that I was unhappy and so I was curtly instructed to walk from seat to different seat (for different tasks I presume, but the purpose of moving was never very clear, and after the third or fourth change of seat I was beginning to think the movements was to mostly harass me). I told one person that I wanted to talk to the patient representative before I left and he said to ask "the nurse". Now remember, I am in the Emergency Room for an Emergency and in a great deal of pain having to do with my perhaps life threatening emergency. Am I supposed to make the ER staff do their job in a kindly and respectful manner? Is it my responsibility to seek out the correct person to demand respectful care? Now here's the sad part. I was fearful that the staff, if they didn't like me would retaliate against me and I would get poor care or no care at all (for example a security guard asking me to leave if they judged me too demanding). It's unfortunate to think that I would need a witness and that my feelings of disrespect need to be corroborated but My husband accompanied me and he was also a witness and a target of this abusive behavior. I was vomiting for 24 hours. Sick and Miserable. Went through Triage with Travis. Very Professional and Friendly. What a Go d beginning. Was immediately given a spit back in the Quality Care Rooms. Stephen who is So Adorable you will want to Adopt him is the Best Nurse I have Ever had at Renown and I have had a few. So Thoughtful, Attention paid to you and your total Comfort and Care. Dr. John Andersen was on staff tonight. Very Sweet and Kind. Worked hard to find out what was going on. He ordered just the right tests. Liz took me through the halls on my gurney and made me feel like I would feel better in no time. A gal named Natosha came in listened to me, I mean really listened. Held my hand. Last time I was at Renown I had Congestive Heart Failure. She sat with me like a Beautiful Angel. The warmth of her Smile made me feel such Calm. I started out with a heart rate of 122. She brought it right down. I am so grateful. I will never forget her. I finally started taking a turn for the better because of these Wonderful people. Each one a much needed cog in a very big wheel. Thank You and my Tripawd, Major the 3 legged Wonder Pooch thanks you too. Stephen said he was fairly new to nursing. He was a total pro. Fantastic from beginning to end. the e.r. doctor was o.k. !!! e.r. doctor assuming that my maintenance dose of morphine would decrease all 10 chronic pain problems !!! 10mg morphine i.m. will break thru all 10 chronic pain !!! so after 4hrs of level 10+ pain e.r. doctor has nurse give me a 10mg im shot of morphine to try break pain cycle !!! everything was great until r.e.m.s.a. shows up !!! r.e.m.s.a. 2 small e.m.t. not strong enough to lift me up off e.r. bed onto to r.e.m.s.a. gurney !!! hurting me setting off pain again ruined all e.r doctors hard work by dragging me & e.r. sheet & mattress off with me !!! my god the pain i endured i screamed in pain when rolled on my left side !!! the patronizing nurse said i was being a little dramatic , my god they dragged my left knee & left leg onto r.e.m.s.a. gurney causing me undescribable pain !!! it was a o.k. e.r. visit untill i was reinjured because not strong enough e.r. nurse & r.e.m.s.a. emt read more

Pre-COVID: Arrived early evening in January 2020. No rooms, so we sat in the waiting room ~ 6 hours. Around 1 AM they put us in a curtained area of a hallway. No one talked to us much and we were not ever sure what they were doing. They provided a few minor treatments but nothing that would be in any way considered major. We were sent home without any resolution. The Cost was HUGE. A similar event at St. Mary's Hospital was ~$4K LESS and we actually were placed in a room, not a hallway. I felt the communication at Renown was poor. I felt the value received at Renown was poor. ER Room doc was not good at the whole "bedside manner" thing, but he was just an ER mercenary-fly-by-night doc. read more

The doctor sent me away said she can't see anything wrong and then 2 days later I can't take my pain any longer I get it checked out at St. Mary's Hospital / Emergency and they admit me for 10 Days. Bar none, a terrible experience. Waited three hours with severe abdominal pain that was "triaged " in minutes by a clerk, nurse, or who knows what he is. No explanations or concerns by anyone so you just sit and wait. One person was not wearing a mast and was coughing excessively. The "guard" just yelled across the room to mask up (he didn't). After over two hours I questioned the clerk as to how much longer and again advised her my pain was easily an 8 on the 10 scale. She said she couldn't predict but I had two ahead of me. After another 45 minutes or so the two went in and when it came to my turn, another was taken in who had been in the waiting room for over two hours so she wasn't triaged much or would have entered earlier. I will monitor my insurance and let them know this had better not be paid as I walked out out of total frustration and lack of care and concern by their staff. We are happy to report that our experience in the emergency room last night was friendly, clean and and quicker than expected. The doctor was easy to deal with and efficient. however, the financial person was intrusive to the point of negligence. Rude. And overreaching with no boundaries.and I have insurance. Smashed finger At noon my husband slammed the car door on his finger and immediately drove to Renown Urgent care, where the wound was cleaned up, x-rayed, and bandaged as it was bleeding profusely. We were told it was broken, needed the nail removed and some stitches, so go to the ER where they would be expecting us. We drove to the ER, gave out all our insurance information, had vitals taken by a medic, and went to triage. At none of these points of contact did anybody seem to know we had been referred by the Urgent Care. Though the finger was bleeding profusely, a ton of gauze kept it from dripping. We were told that as he was stable he would have to wait. We were in the waiting room for about an hour and a half, then taken to a small room in the ER, where we waited another hour or so. The nurse (male) came in and took a look and left. Eventually the doctor came in and took another look. He left, the nurse brought back some supplies. The doctor returned and injected local anesthetic into the hand. This was the first pain killer given by anyone, though my husband was clearly in a lot of pain for the preceding several hours. The doctor cleaned the hand, cut off the nail, stitched it up and left. The nurse came back in and gave my husband anti-nausea medication, but did not bandage the hand. Another half hour or so and the tech came in and took a look, left, returned in another half hour to bandage and splint the hand. He kindly gave us enough supplies to take home. All of the people who attended us were polite and did their work, but all seemed very tired and did not respond to questions. We were just told that directions would be given when we checked out. But, when we did check out we were given four prescriptions with directions, but absolutely no other information other than to see our regular doctor. I didn't know when to re-bandage the hand, and think it a pretty huge assumption that I would know how to bandage such a complicated mess. I did re-bandage it Friday. Can't see our doctor until next week, of course. While care was cursory and not especially personable, it was adequate and we are grateful.. My real complaint concerns accepted best practices regarding hand washing and sanitary conditions. Though I asked every single person entering the room to please wash their hands with soap, only the nurse did, and then only the first time. The doctor told me he washed outside the room. As I had been watching him come directly from another patient's room to ours, I doubt he washed. None used hand sanitizer at any time. They all just snapped on gloves, no washing or sanitizing. None put on masks. This was all extremely alarming to us, due to the open wound. Nobody escorted us out and we wandered around that maze for quite a while, unable to find the exit. Guess we kept going in the wrong direction! Many of the staff were at the central station, talking, laughing, looking at their phones and certainly not attending patients. I experience the wrost at the er,so i went in because i was worry what was happening to me i felt different then my normal. I told them what was happening got called in it was fast that what good and got in they took blood out etc and i was waiting at least an hour for the doctor to come back with the results and never did and a nurse came in and told us and we can leave now and i told her but the dotcor hasn't came in to tell us what was wrong and she say ohh well you were you had a mis carriage and kept in mind this was my first ever experience, apparently i was pregnant I've been taking birth control so i was shooked. And after that was even more annoying, so i have very good insurance and covers everything and they literally told my insurance and i got in a car accident i called both place so they can get it right and no miss understanding incase there was another person with my name maybe got switched up or something and later on i get a call from my insurance saying that they can't cover because they don't cover abortions. I was like that did not happen what so ever and i called the hospital told them why they kept sending wrong information to my insurance like i didn't even know i was pregnant!. And now my insurance doesn't want to cover no more and i have to pay 6,000 to the hospital like what the heka i couldn't believe this like it was bad experience and i know covid is happening but still. Like we all are damaged from coivd somehow, i personally didn't work for months and just got up on my feet with a big bill like why smh. It was the wrost and so emotional with what had happened. If i had to go to the er which hopefully i dont, i would go to Saint Mary's. read more
