She had good sanitary techniques. Lauren, the imaging check-in, was pleasant and professional. Kelly, the EKG tech, was personable and professional. Kelly, the x-ray tech, was friendly and professional. Both Kellys explained each procedure very well. There was a bit of a wait after the initial check in, but I was a walk-in, so I expected that. I delivered both my babies here and both experiences were wonderful. My staff treated me very well and really made me feel comfortable during some of the most vulnerable times of my life. The food here is delicious, and they even gave my husband a free hospital meal. The staff sang happy birthday day to my son when he was born which was so cute. The rooms are huge and very comfortable. Even my husband had a good experience sleeping in the post partum room. The views out the windows are nice, everything in the hospital is new and clean. The bathrooms in the rooms are a generous size and come with a shower in every room. We loved delivering here! read more

I cannot say enough about our experience with the birth of our granddaughter. The nurses were amazing for every single shift. Not only were the nurses amazing but the doctors as well. 9/26/2023 Second time here and in the ER. DH called me to pick him up as he just experienced a dizzy spell (never had one before).. Grateful because it's right across from his work and less than 5 miles from the house.. Pros- ER was not busy and was able to walk in - Also his medical team is with Northern Nevada-.. ER physician was very easy to speak with - All bloodwork came back fine so diagnosis is Vertigo... Of course, we're suppose to be flying out to Vegas tomorrow!... Medication prescribed and hopefully things will be okay tomorrow. read more

How do I even write this review? For such an awful life event, it was an overall good experience. The hospital is small, but quiet. It is kept clean and all of the staff are friendly. They have a great little coffee shop right next to the elevators, though a bit pricey. The front doors are locked after a certain hour at night and you have to enter through the ER, which can be a bit of a walk back to the elevators. The security sitting at the front always wave and say hello. The cafeteria is large and has great food! The chicken quesadilla was my favorite and the french fries were always great! The "spiritual room" was a bit different. It was just a room with a few chairs and a large backlit photo of water on the wall. But, it was comfortable and a good play to get away to think and/or pray. My dad was coming to NNSMC for blood & platelet transfusions for multiple weeks this past year and was always treated with care and respect by the nurses/staff. Most recently, we brought him in to the ER as we unfortunately knew he would ultimately be passing soon. The ER was quiet and not busy. While there, again, he received great care. The doctor understood our need to bring him in and he explained what the process would look like once he was admitted upstairs. The doctor was kind and compassionate towards our situation and I am grateful for his care. At one point, as we waited for him to be transferred upstairs, they moved him to a larger room in the ER so that friends and family could come see him. Once upstairs, I was amazed by the way the various staff took care of him. They made sure he was comfortable and they brought us (family/friends) bowls of snacks and drinks. One of the CNAs even brought in a bunch of chairs from the waiting room since there were so many of us present. They were completely unbothered by the amount of visitors, which was so appreciated. Four of us stayed the night with my father for the duration of his stay and they brought in extra sleep chairs for us. The nurses made sure my father was well cared for and comfortable as well as ensuring we had everything we needed. They were empathetic to our situation and were a listening ear to all of our concerns and multitude of questions. We had a few nurses that weren't quite as attentive as we would have preferred, but they usually came when we requested. My main complaint - the case manager that first visited us on the weekend was short, pushy, and unempathetic. We came to the hospital for a reason and we almost lost my father the day he went into the ER. However, because they decided he wasn't "actively dying" (though he clearly was), they began to push hospice on us. We had absolutely no desire for him to return home on hospice for a variety of reasons, but we felt that desire was pushed to the side and it was almost as if we didn't get a choice. Thankfully because it was the weekend, nothing could happen anyway. Later in the week, we were visited by an actual hospice representative and they actually listened to our concerns and respected our decision to stay in the hospital. To name a few amazing staff: Kaelin 3rd floor night shift nurse - Kaelin was incredible. She was patient with our millions of questions, she checked in frequently, and ensured my dad had everything he needed. She was gentle and kind. She would sit and listen to us vent and ramble when we didn't know what we even needed. She made jokes that were always appropriately timed, when laughs were much needed. She was respectful to my father and genuinely cared. Nanette 3rd floor day shift cna - Nanette was on top of her game the entire time. She was the only CNA that ensured my dad's bed was frequently changed, he was repositioned, etc. She never missed a beat and was on time with everything. Heather in the 3rd floor infusion center - I cannot even begin to express my gratitude to this woman for the care she gave my father. She was with him the most during his blood transfusions and she continued to check in on him/us during that week in the hospital. She made his visits as comfortable as possible and was so kind to him. She made him laugh often, which I love. She was a listening ear to me when I had a million questions about the process of his medicine and passing. She let me cry and vent when I needed and she never seemed bothered. She truly was the epitome of a great nurse. Like Kaelin, she was respectful and genuinely cared for my father. I can't imagine going through any of this without her. When the time came and my father passed, the process was smooth. The charge nurse wasn't as empathetic as I felt he could have been, but he did listen to our requests and allowed there to be time for me and my daughter to get there in the middle of the night before doing anything. Overall, the care my father received was wonderful and I'm thankful this was where my mom chose to bring him. My family was treated with respect, dignity, and compassion. read more

I'm really torn about my experience here. I came in two weeks early for pre op blood tests and signed all my paperwork for an upcoming surgery. On the day of my surgery my nurse told me that our blood tests were not good past 72 hours and that it was pointless for me to have come in two weeks early? She said they've been bringing it up in their weekly meetings but nothing is being done about it... That they've been doing that to everyone? Knowing it's for nothing? Why? Just to bill our insurance extra? What a complete waste of time. Also my dr explained the cost of everything up front on their side. More than once even. But this hospital said no mention of it? Even when I came to my pre op appt. The day of surgery they tell you to only bring your insurance and I.D. But then upon check-in said I owed almost $1,000. I understand that surgery is costly but it would have been nice to have any notice at all! They had opportunities on the phone and at my in person visit two weeks beforehand? Makes no sense? Ok.. so now that I got that out of the way my experience during the surgery itself was a great one! My check in nurse was awesome and my recovery nurse (Garret) was so nice and helpful to me! I thought my team doing my procedure was definitely the A-team!! I feel really lucky to have had them. They really made the experience top notch for a major surgery. But the hospital itself really needs to work on things. They especially need more than one person to man the front desk bc everyone walking in was confused as to what to do? Only one person that was already busy at a separate window helping another patient. One additional staff member could really have helped all these ppl trying to check in for surgery. read more

ON 4pm on Sunday August 17th I brought my sister to Sierra Medical. I am so disgusted by the lack of professionalism shown by personnel in every department we were seen. I brought my sister in for an allergic reaction, and unfortunately, our experience here was very disappointing. She could hardly breathe when we arrived, yet the front desk moved slowly and showed little urgency or compassion. The doctor, a shorter male with thinning hair, was impatient, rude and abrupt in his manner, which added to our stress in an already scary situation. When my sister was finally wheeled to a room, Kara, the nurse assisting, a very young nurse, seemed frustrated and extremely slow, clumsy, which reflected in the way she handled my sister's care. It took much longer than expected just to receive a dose of medication. After three hours, we were practically rushed out of the hospital. The nurse, Kara didn't even bother removing the monitoring equipment from my sister--chest wires, finger sensor, arm cuff--she just told us, "They come right off." Which I personally removed. That was not only careless but negligent. From start to finish, the whole experience was grossly unprofessional and left us feeling dismissed and uncared for. I wouldn't wish that kind of treatment on anyone.. I understand hospitals can be busy and stressful environments, but patients in distress deserve compassion, attentiveness, and professionalism. I used to praise this hospital and staff. Tonight is different I took my son to go get looked at (17 yrs old) and the ER nurse was so mean to my son and put him down so much an told him she is questioning his mental health because he was nervous to speak too much ( he never goes to the doctor) she told him we are going to hurt you to find out what is wrong with you because you won't speak up for yourself. She didn't like that I was helping him by saying what he was having on and wouldn't look at me at all. It's an emergency room. Regardless, the staff were all super helpful and kind. I've been there twice with no issues. The first time we get in super fast. The second time we had to wait a bit but again, it is an emergency room. The nurses were all super kind while treating my fiancee. I was even given a warm blanket as it was rather cold in there. The doctors made sure we were okay and feeling better before releasing us. Hopefully I won't have to come back but if I do I'll choose this one. read more

Do NOT have Surgery HERE!!! They will offer you a discount to pay ahead and pressure you to pay a large sum, of which your insurance will pay 90% of. Then it will take hours of bickering and they will make up a lie about a tiny amount your insurance has not paid, even after verification on a three party call with the insurance company that the amount is an adjustment on the hospital end. They will then say all is resolved refund coming, then not send it. Then you will call about it again and start the process all over again, they will not acknowledge prior interactions on the phone and tell you to keep sending emails to somewhere that are ignored. In addition, my husband almost died!! They medicated him so deeply his pulse was 26 bpm for almost 2 hours!! They struggled to bring him back to life, for a outpatient elective surgery, NO ONE let me know what was going on and the anesthesiologist didn't show their face or speak to neither my husband or I after the ordeal. Oh, on a side note NNMC charged 110,000 just for the surgery unit (4 hours), the same procedure Renown charged 35,000!! A HUGE DIFFERENCE!!! On another note, my husband is perfectly healthy, takes no pharmaceuticals and has perfect lab work, the surgery itself went well, there is no reason that this charge should be so outrageous and his recovery be so dangerous. read more

Our grandpa had a heart attack and our grandma was extremely stressed out. She asked some questions about not feeling well herself and getting checked in. The front desk lady disgustingly said, "I have other patients, get out and go to the waiting room". It is absolutely insane that's how we are treated after having a scare like that. Zero Stars. The waiting room was empty and the halls back in the ER were quiet except the staff chattering on about non work related stuff. There was no blanket just a few small towels given to cover the patient. I was there with someone and sat with them for 2 1/2 hours. Nobody coming in to check. I literally had to go get someone/call the nurse twice due to the patient needing to use the restroom or needing some water. The nurse (a pregnant lady) couldn't be bothered to do her job. She was very rude and unhelpful. Dr Andrew Sheets was unfriendly and rude, I could hear him belittling the patient before walking into the room. He looked shocked to see me sitting there. I just had the worst experience at a hospital I have ever had. It has sent me into a self harm depression. The doctor that treated me this way was kidney specialist that I will be filing a complaint with the state about this. I was having a good experience there. The nurses where nice and it was ok. I had some possible questions ready to be answered about my health problems. I was very excited but nervous about it. Then the doctor comes in finally just to rip it all away. Make me feel like I'm lying and I've done something wrong and kept bringing up sniffing glue. Making me again feel like I've done something wrong. Like I'm a drug addict. Also tells me that there's probably nothing wrong because I look healthy (unbelievable). And then gets an attitude when I get upset, that the answers I was hoping for and so happy to possible have or just taken and turn into an attack on me. I felt horrible when I left in tears. Ask the nurse I was in tears. I hope he feels real special about the treatment he gave me. Sadly he doesn't give a damn and no one there does. Please Find Yourself Another Hospital!!! read more

Emergency room staffs rude doesn't listen to you, treats you rudely and aggressively instead of coming from a place of understanding. First off I was told by the lady at the front something only a doctor could be telling me. Only then to be met by a rude aggressive doctor who didn't listen to my struggles sped through everything he was saying and, truly made me feel like I was doing sometbing wrong by going to a hospital for help. Something this hospital needs to learn is that is how to treat people you might not like what the patient is going through or what there asking for, but respect and understanding is free! Your doctors you think you would know how to be respectful no matter what! I walked out of the hospital in tears. We went there for a procedure we knew what our copayment was. They charged us more than our copayment. They wouldn't let us do the procedure unless we paid more than the copayment. This was on June 6, 2025. It is now September 5 of 2025 and we still do not have our money back that we had to overpay. They are the worst customer service and they don't care. read more

Sierra Medical Center is a great hospital and I had a wonderful ER experience. The check in process was quick and easy and I was able to get into a room as soon as they could get me in. All the staff there are so kind- from the registration girls to my ultrasound tech. Also huge shoutout to the nurses there. Ashley, Hailey, & Ty were so kind and caring the whole time I was there, I never felt alone. The doc who saw me Casey was so compassionate. Facility is nice. Although it was busy I feel like I got the best care possible. I had a great experience although I wasn't feeling the best. I had the best ER experience here. I have been there 3 times in recent weeks ( emergency room), admitted 2 times for 2 days each. My first time, I was super sick, and probably was not acting as nice as I normally would be. But the nurses put up with me, and were very nice and caring. On my last 2 day stay, one nurse in particular (Reba B) stood out as such a caring, super nurse that I thought I had to post it somewhere. The other nurses were great also. Dr Valcheck also really helped me out, and I could tell he was really trying to teach me about my illness. So I thank all of them for the care I received for the care I received. read more

My son had surgery at this hospital and it is the worst excuse for a hospital that I've ever seen. I was management at a big teaching hospital so I know the difference. The surgical folks were nice, but it really ended there. When my son got to the floor it was quite frankly a really awful experience. They didn't have his medical history, didn't know he was diabetic, and didn't have his medication list which he turned in at pre-op. I had to go home, open his computer and screenshot the list and then text it to him. He wears an instant read monitor for his blood sugar. He needed his insulin. They told him his diabetes wasn't important. So it took hours to get to get insulin. He was supposed to get up and walk, but they told him they didn't have enough staff for that. Really. That should never happen. Surgery schedules are prepared in advance so it shouldn't have come as a surprise that they didn't have enough staff. They gave him a soft diet menu, but it wasn't a diabetic menu. It had stuff like rolls pasta and mac & cheese. He finally refused to eat until he got appropriate food. The night crew was much better than the day crew who frankly were awful. At one point I came back to the hospital and as I was going in a found an old man, scared and confused, because he couldn't find the entrance. Here's a thought. Put up a sign that says entrance. There also was no signage as to what to do when he got in the lobby. So I helped him. Where were employees or volunteers??? Nowhere. In the morning my son was given some of his meds but not all of them.When It came time for him to be discharged the day people unhooked the IV, they left the needle in his arm. I asked the nurse to remove it. He told me he wasn't certified to do it. If that's true why wasn't he certified. My guess is his nurse didn't want to bother so we had to wait for 30 minutes for someone to come take it out of his arm. Someone walked us down to the lobby and then said "Bye" and left us there. This place is a dangerous place to be if you don't have your wits about you. I'm really surprised they even got approved by JOINT Commission. Never again. They make Renown look good. read more

A friend was rushed from his home in Southern Reno to this new hospital. 50 years ago I did medical training at both St Mary's & the old Washoe Med. I worked in a big 13 story regional Army Medical Center in Georgia. I get my own care from the the local VA system. This was my first time in this new hospital. It's nice. The coffee expresso lady gave me a nice smile as I went up to see my friend in his room. He had been taken by the paramedics to the ER and was admitted. Having spent time in a Trappist Monastery for 13 years, I spent a month with the consecrated religious fellow, Brother Maria Das, who put Mother Teresa of Calcutta in her casket. He had received THREE mystical medical miracles by intercessory prayers... so I like to visit the "Spirituality Room" of a hospital and say prayers there for the patients and staff and the rest of the world... read more

I delivered my first baby at this hospital and the nurses are absolutely phenomenal. I had many many concerns and fears that diminished with the care of these wonderful nurses. We arrived on a Wednesday about noon and were taken care of by Kristi and Jayd'n (Jayden) in triage then labor and delivery who were absolutely amazing, compassionate and knowledgeable. Our night nurse was Stacey who I had been taken care by on a previous visit and she was the one who helped deliver my baby. She coached me through labor and took amazing care of myself, my husband and my mother while we were in her unit before being transferred to postpartum. Finally Liz in post partum helped me with breast feeding and latching and was very informative and involved. I cannot say enough good things about these nurses. As a first time mom I was absolutely terrified and in pain but these ladies made allll the difference. Thank you SO MUCH KRISTI, JAYD'N, STACEY AND LIZ! I will always remember these amazing women who helped me make a smooth transition into motherhood. read more

Fabulous! Came here with my daughter for a tour of their maternity delivery ward. What an absolute delight. The nurses had full say in design and what equipment and how they wanted each room outfitted, whether it was pre-delivery and labor or post delivery. The delivery rooms are large, private, and very welcoming, as are the nursing staff. The seasoned, experienced staff comes from all the hospitals in the area and they are proud and pleased to show you what a beautiful environment you'll be able to deliver your baby in. The nurses we talked to had years of experience in delivery and answered every question imaginable for us. As for the rooms themselves, they are large enough to accommodate the usual hospital bed, a recliner for dad to be comfortable, or even a couch that makes into a bed. For the little one there's a bassinet type changing set up. What impressed us most, in addition to the nice size of the room, was the size of the restroom. It's large enough that someone can actually easily assist you if you need. Then there's just a general cleanliness and newness of this brand new hospital. They don't have a Nicu set up yet, As they haven't done enough deliveries to be certified but they have Nicu nurses on site should the need arise. My daughter and I were very confident after touring and speaking with the nursing staff that once she reaches 35 weeks, the cutoff off date a viable delivery, this is the place she wants to deliver. I cannot say enough good things about the labor and delivery staff--the nurses and doctors involved in my care were incredibly professional and supportive, and my time at the facility itself was wonderful. Unfortunately, everything following my discharge was a nightmare. Despite having provided my preregistration information prior to admission, the business office sent my bill to an incorrect address and made no further attempts to contact me. By the time I reached out to inquire about my account, my bill had already been sent to collections. The hospital appears to outsource billing to a third-party company, which has caused major issues: I have not received a single physical paper bill despite multiple requests, and each representative I've spoken with follows different policies, has different capabilities, and provides inconsistent information; I have also been unable to receive any support accessing my billing information online. I received a call from a representative reporting incorrect totals for my account and when asked how there was a mixup with my address considering I had preregistered, I was told that the representative "can't control what UPS does." These representatives have been unprofessional and unhelpful, and this disorganization has made resolving the matter extremely difficult. Unfortunately, these ongoing billing issues overshadow my otherwise positive hospital stay, and because of the problems with the third-party billing company, I cannot recommend this facility and will not be returning. This is a real shame, and I truly hope the hospital reevaluates its billing partners and the way they treat patients after discharge. read more

If you go to the ER for anything, your insurance will be billed $25k at a minimum. If you don't have insurance, and have a medical share plan, you'll be personally billed $12k directly, at a minimum, after the sharing plan pays what they can. I had only lived in Reno for a few months before the ER visit, so wasn't aware of how terrible this hospital is. Look up what they are charging on their website. For a single blood test they were charging MediShare over $1,000. For a CBC blood test, which costs about $20 if you buy the test online or get it at another hospital, they are charging over $500. Go to their website and type in "Good Faith Estimate" and it will take you to the Pricing Guide and you can see the outrageous costs they are charging for simple things that are 10x less at other hospitals like St. Mary's. Too a friend to this ER for the second time last last night. Different reason each time. The first time the tech was showed up at the desk was extremely rude. This time, friend is dx'd with a tibial plateau fracture, given 1 (ONE!!) pain pill, a brace and told to go home and rest. No referral to orthopedic, nothing. Unbelievable. read more

Updating my review already. I had a tough covid experience and ended up back in the ER here not long after returning home from California mid January. The er doctor this time around was excellent (Travis Anderson, MD). I was having trouble maintaining my oxygen saturations so was moved to icu quickly this time. I ended up very very sick and was placed in a medically induced coma and intubated. My husband was very happy with the staff while this was going on including nurses, respiratory therapists, and pulmonologist. The er doctor actually came to find me the next day, when I was already intubated, but recognized my husband in the hallway and was gracious enough to have a conversation with my husband. Additionally, the pulmonologist (Dr. Aleem Surani) was very active in discussions with my UCSF team in SF to keep me stable enough for transport. In the end, my care was still transferred to UCSF as I needed higher ability care, but in the interim before transfer while sedated, my husband was very pleased with the entire staff here and what he felt like was genuine empathy and care. For us, this is my new local hospital. I will be finding a primary care doctor here and sitting up my local pulmonary care as well. It is a new hospital, so there are tweaks here and there, but they have very very good people training the new staff.
