I had a horrible exp with this company! I paid in advance for a car and insurance online for 7 days. I received a confirmation email stating I ONLY paid for 3 days. I called and was told I could get it straightened out in the office when I picked up the car. Once I got there, I was told there was nothing indicating that I purchased insurance. (even though additional fees were taking out.) I assume this was for the insurance but was told this was for the deposit. (The website says they will take the deposit at the time I pic up the car) They proceeded to do an application for their insurance. I was asked for 2 emergency contacts, bankcard, mortgage or leasing agreement! I told them I didn't have any of that on me. Needless to say, I was unable to rent the car even though I paid in advance. The customer service rep wasn't accommodating at all. He was very indifferent. I caught a Lyft there and didn't have a way home. It was an awful experience. All customer service people should share the same information! (i.e.. the people of the phone and the people at the counter) I was not informed of needing these items when I called twice to see if my online process went through. I've rented from this location more than once. However, when I returned my car this am the young male associate was very nasty. I walked in at 8 am. He was sitting there beginning to eat his breakfast. He looked up and rolled his eyes as if I was interrupting him. He look the keys and shuffled outside to check the car. He asked if I wanted a printed receipt and then said with an attitude. " we gonna hold your deposit for the tire" I had no idea what he was taking about and instead of explaining he said " yeah I said the tire". At that point I said "hey I'm just asking a question" another young lady that I suspect is the manager took over the conversation and explained everything. She was very nice and professional. Horrible, horrible customer service and beware that they also have horrible business practices. My deposit was kept for my rental due to "a heavy smell of black ice". I received my rental with a heavy smell of black ice and returned vacuumed as I always do my rentals and also sprayed a couple sprays of black ice. Upon returning the vehicle in the same condition I received it, smell and all I was told my deposit would be held because of heavy scent of black ice. I called to speak with manager next day as instructed and then was told the car had a heavy smoke scent which was a bunch of crap (I don't smoke anything). How did we go from a heavy black ice scent to a heavy smoke scent. Penny was gone for the day so I called back the next day and was then told by the 3rd person I spoke with (Penny, the manager) that the car had ashes. This is now 3 completely different reasons as to why my deposit was held. It's disgusting to me that Penny could do her loyal customer who has never had a problem like this especially since it was all a bunch of crap. Greed and money hungry is the only excuse to keep my $150 deposit with 3 different excuses. I do not recommend them to anyone unless you would like to forfeit your deposit due to lies. Not to mention Penny hung up on me which is unacceptable when all I wanted was answers and a straight story. I did not once disrespect her so there was no call from that. I just landed at BWI and had a reservation and two of the workers were still there at 5pm. They closed the door on me and wouldn't let me rent the car and left me stranded. Also very rude black dude. I had to call and cancel and even the man on the phone had poor customer service skills. Very limited selection of vehicles. We had a terrible experience here. We rented a 15-passenger van for our teenage daughter's birthday dinner. When we returned the van, they tacked on an extra $100 excessive cleaning fee due to "pet hair removal and odor." We had NO pets in the vehicle! I thought it smelled a little funny when I first picked it up, but didn't give it much thought. When we went to return it, the manager went to inspect the odometer and said all the "pet hair" gave him an allergy attack. When I said I didn't think I should have to pay $100 for an animal we didn't have in the vehicle, the girl behind the counter said, "You have no CHOICE but to pay the fee." I didn't see any pet hair in the vehicle. Who knows how often they get away with this kind of thing? I have since disputed the extra $100 with my credit card company. Wish to report an amazing experience at this location. I was out of town with a non-MD driver's license, and no credit card available. Rent-A-Wreck was able to accomodate my last minute need for transportation. The office at this location provided a very professional and friendly experience, and I look forward to doing business with them again. Additionally, the company seems to have really grown up. They really had no "wrecks" available; rather, nice, contemporary vehicles in great condition. Also, the rates were in line with market price, but it was a relief to have the convenience. This location was a real pleasure to deal with. As well, they are easily reached from the Metro Subway via the Rogers Avenue stop. read more

absolutely horrible. rented a car for a week week, went to return it with full tank of gas as requested and cleaned the car! mind you I do NOT smoke cigarettes or smoke weed. anywyas brought the car back with them saying they were gonna hold onto my deposit so to the car smelling like perfume. I've rented here successfully 4 times with no problems and no concerns. My last rental was a nightmare. I needed a cargo van to transport a large table for my office. I called and reserved the cargo van about a week in advance, and even got a text message two days before the rental imploring me to call to confirm, otherwise I would lose my reservation. I made sure to do that, as I only had a few hours to pick up my cargo van, drive to pick up my merchandise and return the truck. So I woke up early to be the first one there at 7:30 so I could get my cargo van and be on my way. I had my insurance information and everything was good to go. When I got there I was informed that they did not have my cargo van. I asked why not and they replied that they were supposed to get it back the previous night but did not. They had no idea when it would be available. Where was my phone call warning me of this possibility? If I have to confirm my interest and ability to pay do you think they would keep up their end of the bargain? I felt like I was in the Seinfeld episode. You've seen it- where Jerry has to explain that the reservation is what keeps the car there. They are good at taking reservations and threatening to cancel on you if you don't confirm and show up in a short window of time, but they aren't good at actually having your reservation for you. I am a reasonable person. I understand mistakes happen. I was not given an apology or an explanation. I cancelled my order and I simply refuse to rent from them again. I called back to ask who I was speaking with (to file a compliment) and was hung up on AND this was when we were trying to RETURN OR EXTEND the rental agreement. I would give them zero stars if I could. I have been using their services for a while now and to very honest it was not always the best. Today was the worst and the absolute last time I rent from that business. At the top of my list of reasons is the new guy on the desk, he barely speaks above a whisper, plays on his phone and flat out ignores you when you ask a question. Today was my return day, I got a flat tire pulling into the lot. I do know policy(the car was still in my possession) even so the fact it happened as I pulled up should warrant a conversation, answering my questions some sort of resolution. Instead the same young man ignored me when asked about costs, the staff ignored me when I suggested that someone needs to check for whatever object caused this to happen and when asked for a cost break down I was told nothing except your money is hold you'll be called as their response to what are the next step. The staff is dismissive, rude and the whole thing feels shady. I thought I found a nice place for my travel needs but today I learned I was wrong. Great Place. Was in a bind on a Friday afternoon when my car broke down and wanted to get a pickup truck for the week. Spoke to the owner, and she has two in stock. One of the trucks was due in that day, but Penny was not sure. She called the client, and she told me to come in after 4 pm and the truck would be ready for me. The absolute worst rental car experience I have ever been involved with. The agents are in desperate need of Customer Service Training, as they are rude and unprofessional. When I arrived there were three agents working. One of the agents was busy berating and chastising a customer about his drivers license, while the other two agents were attempting to kill a mouse with a broom as I waited for service. They had no apology for the 30 minutes I had to wait while they tracked the rodent. Once I received the vehicle it was dirty inside and out. There was also less than an eighth tank of gas in the vehicle. In my haste to get to an appointment, I decided that it would be easier to accept the inadequate vehicle. As if that were not enough, I returned the vehicle and was told because the tire pressure light had come on while the vehicle was in my possession, they would need to hold my deposit until the tires were inspected. One of the pest control agents assured me someone would be contacting me within 48 hours. Ten days later and 27 dollars additional taken from my bank account, I returned to the facility to inquire about my deposit and the additional funds taken from my account without my authorization. The same pest control agent tells me that a nail was found in one of the tires and because I was the last renter of the vehicle, I was charged for a new tire. I began to explain that I needed to see documentation of the transaction and wanted to speak to the manager, as it could not be determined that the nail was not already in the tire and just worked free while I was in possession of the vehicle. I wanted to know how it could be determined that I was the responsible party. The mouse chaser began to become defensive and after a brief exchange decided that she would not be giving me any additional paperwork and I should leave before she calls the police. I then stated that she may as well call them because I was not leaving without documentation regarding what happened to my deposit. The manager came in and I immediately knew who the Customer Service Trainer was for the company. Her attitude was just as bad as the pest control team. Needless to say the police were called and they gave me the paperwork I had asked for an hour earlier. The police officer stated that they are always getting calls from this company and recommended that I never deal with them again. I am now seeking action against this predatory agency . read more

I've rented with them other times and never had a problem with returns nor pick up but this one time I rent a truck all hell breaks loose. I've never worked with Penny nor do I ever want to again! she's rude and sneaky. I was accused of smoking in the truck- but news flash I don't smoke disgusting cigarettes, but she does apparently because she said that's how she knows I was smoking because she smokes them, crazy right lol. it gets even worse, because I was sitting there about 30-40 mins with my mom (trying to get another rental with an essential letter because of COVID-19 and work) before they even started talking about a smoking fee, why didn't you address this with me in the first 15-20 mins of me coming back with the car pretty clean, on a FULL tank because I had to clean it out once I got the rental because it smelled somewhat of a burnt note, even my mom thought all this was weird (i'm happy she was with me both times pick up and return to really see what the heck they really up too). The rental truck was in the back in the cut- basically I feel like I've been set up, I did not come in the store wanting that truck she offered that one! I feel ripped off. Oh I was also on a 48 hour hold to see if i could get my deposit back and no one ever called me- I call them to find out they took my money without even contacting me and following up with me to let me know they decided to take my security deposit. I don't understand why Penny thinks I would try anything dumb like that in a rental that I just put MY hard earned money into (a nice damn chunk too for that truck) for them just to take it. I tried calling to speak to Penny and she got snappy with me, cutting me off saying she not trying to argue with me (nobody was arguing) I just asked her why she never called me to let me know she was keeping my money and again she cut told me shes directing me to customer care and hung up without answering my question- she did lie and said that I said that I was going to call back in a day but why would I have said that if she said 48 hours? She didn't even want to give me her last name.But all will be settled with the help of customer care, which I seemed to have had a better experience in dealing with them. I rented from this particular location during the Labor Day holiday weekend. I was intentional in making a reservation well in advance because I know that this tends to be a busy travel season. However, when I arrived at the Northern Parkway location, there were NO cars on the lot. When I asked what the reason behind this was, I was told that (as expected, to them but unexpected to me) several renters had extended their contracts through the following Tuesday. Why is this my problem and why aren't there more than just a handful of cars available for such a busy travel time? I had to go to a different location, approximately 2 miles further north than that 1 in order to have my reservation honored. I asked for some sort of compensation for this inconvenience only to be told that there was nothing that could be done about it (there was), other than going to their other location on Liberty Rd. How about starting with increasing your fleet of cars? Then, situations like this won't happen during busy travel weekends, or period... I have rented from this company's location a few times over the past 2 years but this was a first. Thankfully, during this experience, I learned that there is a location not far from where I live. I'll likely try them out when I need to rent a car again. read more

Horrible operation. Needed a car for 3-7 weeks. Was told I could extend contract over phone since I did not know how long I would need it. So I rented it for 2 weeks. Car was filthy when I got it had only 3/8 of a tank of gas and smelled of cigarettes. Didn't have a choice since I had had just taken a cab from BWI for $60 to pick this car up. After 2 weeks I called to extend for another 2 weeks they told me I had to come in to sign a new contract. Was working night shift over 60 miles away so I was not happy. I did it anyway. 2 weeks later I had to again drive 3 hours round trip to renew contract. I was so pissed off I gave them car back took another $60 cab ride to airport and rented from enterprise. They billed me an additional $150 because the car had ashes in it. I do not smoke nor were there any other passengers in vehicle. I explained I worked at a paper mill and ash was always in the air. They threatened to kick me out. Nice after 1 month of renting from them. I will dispute this charge and have filled a police report after working 12 hours on night shift and having to drive 60 miles again because I was so aggravated with these rude and completely unprofessional people and company. I am not sure this was the correct location that we used, we dropped the car off at an even different location, not sure why that was either, the whole transaction was so confusing. It all started a few months ago when we made our reservations for the rental car with Next Car. The internet rate was considerably lower than all other rental companies in the area, so we called to confirm the rate we were told they also offered pick up/drop off to/from the airport, so figuring we could save quite a bit of money we decided to give them a try. A few days prior to pick up we called to make sure all was still in order and confirmed the reservation, at that time we again confirmed that transportation would be provided to their location, we were told all we had to do was give them a call when we arrived at the airport and someone would pick us up. After arriving at the airport we called for our pick up and was informed then that they no longer provided that service and that it was our expense to get to their location. Needless to say we were quite upset with this since it was confirmed a few days earlier that transportation would be provided. Again we were told that they could no longer come to the airport that they had been banned, may have had something to do with the rental name change, no sure why this was, it was never made clear the reason for the sudden change, or perhaps we were given false information. After a lengthy phone conversation it was decided that they would reimburse a small fee of the taxi fare and a small percentage would be reduced on the rental rate. Even though they did work with us in cutting a deal for inconvenience, it was still a lengthy process filling out paperwork, all said and done 2 hours was was wasted from the time we landed until we were riding off in the rental. The car we ended up with was dirty, the interior looked like someone dumped dark colored soda all over the back seat, the windows were so dirty we had to clean the windshield in order to have visibility for night driving. After being delayed for so long with all the confusion and it didn't appear that they had any other compact cars to choose from we decided to just go on. We have learned our lesson in trying to save money with rental cars, from now on we will only deal with far more familiar companies, we will never use Rent A Wreck or Next Car again! The time and effort we wasted with this company was not worth the little money we ended up saving. read more

When I arrived to pick up the cargo van I had reserved, they tried to charge me an extra day MORE than I had been quoted over the phone. There are no words to express how rude the manager was (if I hadn't needed the van that day, I would have gone somewhere else). Then the low tire pressure light was on, and they told me to ignore it... that they had inspected the van and it was a technical glitch. I pulled into a gas station 2 miles away and discovered - not only was the tire pressure low - but there was a nail in the tire! If I had taken their word for it and driven it on the highway like that, I would have probably had a blowout and died. When I called to tell them about the tire, they said I'd have to pay to get it fixed myself. I told them I would just return the van b/c I was tired of all their lies, and they finally agreed to fix the tire themselves. I will NEVER rent a vehicle from them again.
