There were plenty of awards listed on the door and the prices seemed reasonable so I felt like I was avoiding a tourist trap. However, given that I look Asian, I stood out like a sore thumb as I was surrounded by Italians, some speaking English but most speaking Italian. My waiter was great; however the other waiters seemed to be laughing that I was sitting alone for dinner, which maybe is a faux puax in Italy, and does not account for business persons traveling alone. When asked for recommendations on dessert, they stated the tiramisu, which was very good. Next time, I will try something else. They did try to push some alcohol on me as "authentic" so I don't think they realized that I was not looking for tourist stuff, but just good stuff. They didn't speak English that well so when I asked for leftovers to be packed up, they did not. My waiter promptly took care of that and asked packed up the delicious bread. I don't think having the boss around helped their nerves. But as for the actual food, it was quite food and reasonably priced. The octopus salad was quite good, with the fresh octopus cooked nicely--not chewy at all. I could have just eaten that because the portion sizes were so large but had already ordered the fish pasta so that was really good--pasta al dente with fresh fish, tomatoeS and olives!

I so enjoyed this restaurant! Had I stayed longer in Rome I think I would have come here more than…read moreonce. They have a prix fixe menu that has an appetizer, first course, second course, dessert, glass of wine and coffee for 30 euro. That's a pretty amazing deal! To be honest, I felt like all of that would've been too much food, so just had an appetizer, first course, dessert and wine and left full and happy. Even getting all that felt like a real deal. I'll be attaching photos -- but as a description, I Had the buffala mozzarella and prosciutto. It was presented so beautifully -- the mozzarella was in the middle and the slices of prosciutto folded over it, almost like flower petals. On the side was a small, crispy, deep fried additional piece of mozzarella with "crispy praline" -- not quite sure what that was meant to be, but it was a bit too much on top of the mozzarella and prosciutto, I think. (Don't get me wrong -- I ate it, I'm not stupid! :) ). First course I had the tonnarello cacio di fossa, pepe e carciofi -- basically, cacio e pepe, a great quality parmesan like cheese and black pepper, only this version also had artichokes, which I really like (and which, of course, are a Roman specialty). There was a small bread basket and it was worth the extra carbs to dip a piece or two of bread in the olive oil that remained. Again, I did not have a secondi dish, but they looked amazing. Instead, I chose to have dessert -- just something simple, homemade vanilla ice cream on a crispy waffle. Simple and delicious. Some kind of funky shaped cookie came on top, which I tasted but didn't care for; maybe a unique type of biscotti? There was also a delicious sauce on the side and the combination was perfect. The wine that is included is the "house wine" -- which was a Montepulciano di Abruzzo (at least this night it was, not sure whether it changes), and just by coincidence, this is one of my favorite wines. It was delicious and rounded out the meal well. I went alone and read my book as I ate, and the servers were a nice mix of checking in with me and leaving me in peace to enjoy my meal. A really nice, quiet evening after a long week of hard work and travel, and most welcome!

With…read moreheavy rain pouring outside, we didn't want to venture far from our hotel so we decided to try the rooftop restaurant, La Fata Ignorante, at the iQ Hotel. It turned out to be the perfect choice. The rooftop setting is cozy, warm, and inviting, exactly what we needed after a long travel day. The staff was exceptionally kind and welcoming, attentive without being intrusive, and really added to the experience. The food was a standout. The pasta carbonara was absolutely amazing rich, creamy, perfectly cooked, and easily one of the best versions we've had. And the tiramisu deserves a special mention: it was hands down the best we had in all of Italy during our trip. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering it's a hotel restaurant with such a nice atmosphere and high-quality dishes. Overall, La Fata Ignorante exceeded our expectations and offered the perfect first meal in Rome. We highly recommend it, whether you're staying at iQ Hotel or simply looking for a great, relaxed dining experience.

We had a really marvelous, relaxing evening here. I'd be happy to return.

Suddenly her face brightens. "Si" she says, laughs and welcomes my group in. The effort is appreciated. So begins one of the most memorable meals in Roma. Note: This is the "Angry Cousin" trattoria featured on Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations Rome. Difficult to find (go by taxi). Very rustic and austere bordering on old BUT oh, such incredible pasta. Carbonara, Carbonara fiori di zucca, amatriciana How can dishes made of such few ingredients taste so incredible. Once you try them you will NEVER be able to eat the American counterparts. The carbonara with its concentrated egg flavor blends perfectly with the earthy pecorino cheese and oil of the guanciale creating a complex creamy flavor that goes on and on. Add the zucchini flowers for the green, herbaceous sweetness. The rustic amatriciana with the extracted tomato sauce, perfect. Other dishes worth mention; the braised tripe, braised oxtail, Tortino di carciofo (artichoke pie). Perfectly cooked and delicious. Almost all the reviews posted by Romans on yelp and that "other review site" say the price is very high. About €35 per person inclusive of the house wine. Note: the house wine matches the simple, flavorful food but is overly simple for most connoisseurs. Is it worth seeking out? Definitely. Just remember, you're a guest, not a customer. Don't be a snob. Pour your own water and wine. Don't complain, Don't waste food. Unlike America, regardless if you paid for the food, Italians view not finishing everything you are served as wasteful. Tip: do not eat the bread when it is brought to the table Use it only to mop up the pasta and meat sauces. Watch the face of the server brighten when they see you doing it the right way. Very little English. Booking required.
