Another coach mat is Phenomenal, full of energy and motivational and training to improve the form and skill. Coach Lucy's HIIT classes are like "WOW! - tiring but really effective"! All teammates are a great group of people with good attitude, who have also been helpful and positive. The mat Martial Arts Fitness is a community of welcoming, knowledgeable and inspiring people. They offer so many stuff, self defense, MMA, Bags & Strikes, Kids Martial Arts, grappling, ground and many more for a very reasonable price but yet fine coaching. Unfortunately, what followed was a frustrating experience involving billing issues, poor communication, and a complete lack of consideration for the customer. During the first month, I was charged an additional $238 outside of what I understood to be the contract. I complained, and the money was ultimately returned to me through Venmo. Looking back, that should have been my first red flag. My son initially enjoyed the classes, but he was one of the only older kids in his class. I would not recommend this gym for children over 8 and under 14 based on our experience with the age mix and instruction. He also became increasingly uncomfortable with being regularly paired with girls. Jiu-jitsu necessarily involves close physical contact and being in another person's personal space, and this became a genuine concern for my son. I raised this concern directly with BFF's administrative representative, Ani, as well as the coach. I was told that my son was not yet big enough for the general class. I communicated to both of them that we intended to stop attending because the program was no longer comfortable or appropriate for him. I was perfectly willing to honor what I understood to be the six-month agreement. In fact, I accepted paying the sixth month even though my son attended zero classes during that month. I did not ask for a refund or an exception. I believed in honoring an agreement in good faith, and BFF therefore received $238 for a month in which it provided no services to my son because the gym could not comfortably accommodate him. Then I discovered the billing had continued. When I reviewed my credit card statement, I found that I had been charged for three additional months, totaling another $714, despite my having already had two conversations with the administrative representative about ceasing classes. At no point during those conversations was I told that I needed to submit a separate written cancellation request in order to prevent continued billing. When I escalated the issue to the owner, rather than taking responsibility for the failure of his employees to clearly communicate the cancellation procedure, he was adamant about enforcing what I consider a grossly disproportionate financial burden on the customer--leaving me out over $900 for services my son did not receive. What is particularly troubling is that the owner chose to hide behind a contract and cancellation procedure that I was not furnished a copy of, rather than recognizing that I had clearly communicated my intention to discontinue the classes to two employees and had already willingly paid for a month of unused services in good faith. My experience with BFF has left me with serious concerns about its billing practices, customer communication, and the way management treats customers when there is a dispute. If you choose to do business with Brazilian Fight Factory, I strongly recommend reviewing every charge on your credit card and getting every cancellation instruction in writing. Do not assume that telling their staff you are discontinuing classes is sufficient. Get confirmation of the cancellation procedure and documentation of the cancellation.

I've never been to Rico's Muay Thai class, but I hear great things about it from the people who attend. There's a family vibe at 10PGTX. Lots of positivity. You can get as competitive as you want here, but you won't find people trying to hurt each other. I came here with zero grappling experience, and can honestly say that this is the best thing I've done for my health as an adult (mental and physical). I've lost 30 lbs in a year. The only change I made over that year was starting classes at 10PGTX. No diet changes, no additional exercise. The only regret I have is not starting this sport sooner! Try it. If you catch the bug, you'll no longer be able to imagine your life without it.

Having been taught never to lay a hand on someone, especially girls, let alone pushing and grabbing, along with tumbling is still a learning process, but mostly positive. Its most difficult because he doesnt know what the martial arts is about. I even dont. Its not anout a knock out or hurting. He learns a move a day and may be repetitive the following day. But its not like karate where you might learn a move, repeat that quick motion, and move on. It had to be learned and almost instinctual. There are steps to follow for the move to be purposeful. Its difficult for my kid amongst others to comprehend and learn and that I (and theirs) need to pay attention from the narrow seating area to recreate at home to get the most of the teaching. Overall a good experience. Waiting to experience the Texas heat in the small space with large attendance. Btw, if you want "Brazilian" Jiu Jitsu, you'll get the emersive accent and light language barrier if you can handle it. Quite authentic culturally in this small local business. They seem to be very people loving, relaxed, yet strict with their dojo behavior as expected. I would actually appreciate more obedience and respect training like original japanese jiu jitsu.

Unexpected fee after cancellation + refund refused…read more We enrolled our son, Talen, at Johns Gym in Austin and withdrew/cancelled his membership in April as a result of a blood clot and condition that does not allow him to box anymore. After the cancellation, we were still charged an additional fee. We contacted the gym right away to request a refund, but we were told we missed the reimbursement/refund window, so a refund would not be provided. I understand businesses have policies, but this felt frustrating and unfair given that we had already withdrawn him. I'm leaving this review so other families clearly understand the billing and refund timelines before signing up. I'd appreciate the gym revisiting this situation and making it right.

I signed Thing One up for a membership for his 15th birthday last month. I did this because like…read moremost schools during this time, students are not permitted to change out into athletic apparel during their physical education class because of the pandemic. This lack of changing clothing is also directly correlated to the lack of physical fitness in these classes. On the first visit on his birthday weekend, one of the instructors took her time to approach me and ask if the music was to loud for my son. I was both shocked and grateful. She asked as she reviewed my son's paperwork when I signed him up which indicated that my son has Asperger syndrome. A significant number of people with Asperger's Syndrome have been perceived to display either an over-sensitivity or an under-sensitivity to sensory stimuli. In my son's case, although he is a musician who plays multiple instruments, loud sounds are troublesome for him. Aside from this, the instructor also checked in on him to make sure that he was using proper technique. Aside from the service provided here, the gym is clean and is operated like a Cheers "where everybody knows your name". I am pleased thus far with the instructors, price point and the convenient class hours.

You and/or your child will likely learn a lot under their teaching. They will dedicate time to you and/or your child to help you along in the process. Now, for the disappointing: When you sign up, it appears you are signing a contract, which is completely understandable. As it turns out, not only are you signing a contract, you are applying for a loan, which will go on your credit report. Keep this in mind, as signing up (unless you are paying cash for everything up front) will likely impact your credit report, as it did ours.
