I don't live in the area but I wanted to support a local business here while visiting my sister. To start we order the chips and queso with salsa and it was pretty good. For the entree my sister ordered the Cajun chicken pasta and the bread wasn't that great but the pasta and chicken was delicious. I ordered a simple salad but it tasted pretty old I was not happy about it. It was a huge disappointment. I think everyone wants their salad fresh. We were excited to venture out from our side of town to try a restaurant we hadn't tried yet. Unfortunately it wasn't worth the drive. It started off with the drink order- I ordered water with lemon (sorry ma'am, we are out of lemon). Then my husband ordered his food, shrimp brochette (sorry sir, we are out of shrimp). We both finally got an order in, I ordered the catfish ponchatrain and he ordered the fried avocado. When the food was up and the server gave me mine it was missing the sauce, which was my whole reason for the dish... otherwise it's just blackened catfish. The server then informed me that the sauce had "gone bad." I'm thankful I wasn't served the sauce- but how long had it been made for it to have "gone bad"? A few other concerns... pizza spatulas hanging right above the trashcan in the kitchen... the cook was wearing flip flops, and the table next to us was COVERED in flies.... However, the server was fast... sooo I guess that gets a star... and my husband said his avocado was great which warrants the second star.. Overall not impressed and won't be back. read more

Absolutely disgusting. I got garlic parmesan wings and they bring them out 30 minutes later drowning in butter. The bartender was super rude and didn't acknowledge me multiple times and my wings look like they just threw a gallon of butter sauce on them. I'll absolutely be calling to complain. read more

The only things this place had going for it was the great service by the young lady who took care of us and the nice building. The bar was slammed and understaffed, drinks were pricey for something less than mediocre. The pulled pork wrap my husband ordered was extremely dry with old, dry, crunchy fries. My fried avocado was falling apart, with 1/2 the avocado with MAYBE 1/4 tbsp of bucket salad, and paired with dry, flavorless onion rings. The manager was not helpful as she was to get me a bowl of soup in exchange and failed to bring it to the table. Leaving out very busy but wonderful server to have to bring this out herself. Once at the table it was overloaded with salt and disgusting. First and last time at this establishment. read more

Went with a group of 10. My first visit. First I do want to say the waitress was very friendly and helpful. The good part ends there. The spinach dip was not as good as some other restaurants but ok. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak. It tasted like the meat had been warmed over in a microwave and not cooked prior to serving. I opted for onion rings instead of fries. That was a $2.99 up charge. While visiting from Houston, we got a craving for some decent beer and tavern-style food. Republic Ice House is a good place for just that. We had the bacon-wrapped jalapeños, onion ring platter, and philly cheesesteak. The portions weren't huge, but the food was pretty good. The ranch dipping sauce is housemade and was good on everything. They have more than just domestic beer on draft which is nice, and plenty of TVS around for watching games. On a Wednesday night they had live music and the guys were great artists. That was an unexpected bonus. I would visit again if in the area, especially if looking for a relaxed atmosphere for watching a game. read more

I have always loved coming here for the food and atmosphere! Today I met some friends for lunch and the service was terrible! We had to ask for water refills, silverware and our checks. Orders were messed up... one person didn't get their food until the others were almost done. To add to this we were told that substitutions would be an additional charge, when the bill came they charged more than we were told. We spoke to a manager who seemed to just make excuses. A lot of people rip this place, due to service. Personally, I thought our group of 4 had great service, last Friday evening. The place was packed due to the NCAA tourney, but our server was on top of it. Not to mention, she had great product knowledge, and spouted off every draft beer, w/o having to look at the taps. The food was a huge disappointment though. Our apps were really bland, and my steak fingers were nothing better than what you'd find at your local Dairy Queen I also really didn't care to listen to a band warm up, while we were watching NCAA games, that, in my opinion, were more interesting than the old geezers that were set to play. Not to mention- the band had their equipment strewn throughout the hallways where the bathrooms are. I had to literally step over band equipment to go urinate. Fun! Good service, great atmosphere (for watching games), and a decent beer, and liquor, selection will lure me back in. First off I realize this is a sports bar and shouldn't expect too much with professional staff and service. However when the place is only at 20% capacity I would expect a table of 3 would take less than an hour to get your food. I ordered the pork tacos and the tortillas were hard and the pork was cold. There was a woman arguing with an employee, she seems to run the place (small blonde woman), she was intoxicated and it made several if us feel awkward. I had dinner with my wife here a couple of nights ago. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries and it was delicious. The server was prompt and several of the employees checked on is regularly. I felt like they genuinely were concerned about our meal. My wife had the patty melt and I had a bite. Finally a patty melt with strong marble rye bread. All in all a nice relaxing Saturday night meal on the patio listening to some good tunes. read more

We have been going here for years and sadly watching it go downhill for years. The management is awful and needs to be replaced. On a Saturday night at 7:30 when most places in Tyler are on a wait, we were 2 of 10 customers. Even that short on customers, we had to chase the waitress down to get drink refills and our food was served cold. The manager and the wait staff just sit at a table eating, drinking, and ignoring the paying customers. This place is absolutley horrible. It is over priced, the food is horrific, and the service is non-existant. My friend and I ordered the $9.99 nachos and they consisted of cold tortilla chips, un-melted shredded cheese, and seven small pieces of semi-warm fajita meat. Personally, if I was the server/ bartender I would have returned them to the kitchen out of sheer embarrassment. Food is ridiculously good in a low key atmosphere- we had the special which was a pork chop with a pear ale glaze and it was amazing. Had chicken fajita and pulled pork tacos that had enough flavor to carry themselves up against some other amazing food. I can't imagine being dissatisfied with anything on the menu. My experience. You be the judge. Three weeks before my daughter's graduation from UT Tyler I made reservations for 10-12 here to celebrate. When we arrived they couldn't locate our reservation in the book. I was asked if we actually made one. A server came over and pointed it out on the page. I was sternly asked exactly how many would be attending. I replied that I wasn't sure, but we were expecting 10-12. We were taken to our assigned table after a deep sigh. An unsmiling female with blondish hair was our server. Minimal service was given to my guests. After our meal I noticed that 5 of our tea glasses were empty. After 5 minutes I went to find her and ask for help. I didn't find her, but found the manager and asked if he would let her know. He became very angry and told me, "You have an attitude! You had an attitude when you got here and have had an attitude every time the server came to the table!" I was never less than nice and smiling and used please, thank you, yes, and no ma'am. I corrected him and returned to my seat. I guess the perceived attitude was why our table was consistently ignored. The food here is terrible. My Chicken Monterey ended up being a slice of chicken breast on a bed of lettuce that had wilted to the point of almost slime and served on a metal plate that had seen better days. The refried black beans was overpowered by the taste of lard with a bitter back bite. I looked around the table to see if anyone was enjoying their meal. Everyone was quietly complaining about the taste. My husband told me that his pulled pork had a rancid taste. He didn't eat it. I feel that my dinner celebration for my daughter was ruined. I now know of 12 people that will never go there again. On a good note, I noticed a server that was friendly had a genuine smile and was attentive. If you go there I hope you get her. If you decide to go there and see for yourself don't say you weren't warned. read more

The place is clean, and service was fast and friendly. The cheese dip is really good, the chips were overly oily. The fried avocado needs work, and more explanation. In other places, the ingredients are placed in the avocado, which is then breaded and fried. Here, the avocado is breaded and fried, then sliced in half, and the ingredients placed in the two halves. Chicken salad was chosen from the three options, and there was less than two tablespoons served; high price for a few bites. The pulled pork BBQ sandwich, which the served bragged included meat they smoked on site, was the worst I have ever tasted. The meat was pulled in large chunks, the smoke was heavy, and obviously not a familiar wood for BBQ. I love my BBQ, and have had a range of excellent to bad, this hits worst; the pre-packed from Brookshire's is better. Would I go back, not likely, unless I was meeting friends that just had to go there. I sure wouldn't get the same foods we tried this time. High expectations crashed on a dismal experience that left me wishing I had gone to Steak 'n Shake instead. read more

This place ruined my graduation party. Three weeks ago, my mother and I were deliberating on where to have my graduation party. We decided on Republic IceHouse. She made a reservation for 12. On the day we had reserved, we came in about 5 minutes before our reservation. The manager came over with a bad attitude and informed us he couldn't find our reservation. Eventually the hostess did find our reservation. Our waitress was an unhappy middle aged woman. She glumly took our drink order and eventually brought it all out. She was less than happy when we politely asked for more time to place our food order. We were expecting a few more people to show up and didn't want to order without them. In the meantime, we ordered a few appetizers. A few bowls of queso and chips, and some of the jalapeno poppers. The queso was bland, and got hard fast. The chips tasted like a mixture of an insane amount of salt and old nasty frying oil. Then we placed our food order. While we were waiting on our food, my last few friends showed up. We had to flag down the waitress after several minutes of waiting and beg her to serve the new guests. By this point, several people at the table had empty glasses. Mine had been empty for at least 5 minutes. My mother went to ask the manager if we could get refills. He then told her that she had a bad attitude, and had a bad attitude when she came in, and that she had one every time the server came to the table. He told her that was the reason she wasn't getting served. My mother is unfailingly polite, she understands from her years in customer service the value of being polite and kind to the people serving you. The server then brings out our food. Of a table of ten people only one person enjoyed their meal. My 82 year old grandfather did enjoy his philly cheesesteak, however, the next day he felt sick--food poisoning sick. I got the fried avocado with spanish rice, chips and salsa, and beans. The only thing on the plate worth eating was the fried avocado itself. The chips were, as before, nasty and salty. The salsa was bland and not spicy at all. The rice and beans were both disgusting. It was disappointing to look down the table at my party and see people not eating and looking disgusted. I went Saturday night to hear a great band and looked forward all day to a great meal. I'm on a specific eating plan but didn't worry about finding a great salad or steak as my meal. Got there at 6:00 to an empty dining area. Was told the old menu was in the process of changing and offered a "temporary" menu until the new menu was ready. The waitress didn't know when that would be. This substitute menu consisted of 3 appetizers and your choice of a burger or pizza as a main meal. I opted for the bacon wrapped jalepeno, listed as an appetizer, as my meal at $8.99. The waitress indicated they were out of these. Really? It's 6:00 on a Saturday night with an empty dining area and you are already out of one of the 5 food options available? OK...I'll take the burger, no bun or french fries but add the sliced avocados. Out of avocados. So I'm looking at a "meat" patty as my meal. She happen to mention a house salad which I jumped at. I assumed this would take the place of the french fries I omitted with maybe a small upcharge. Food arrives. The "meat" patty was horrible. It was heavily processed and perfectly shaped. Definitely was not hand formed. I felt like it was something a school cafeteria would serve. I couldn't eat more than half of it. The salad was ok. Lettuce, croutons and dressing. I was so hungry as I ate little all day anticipating this "wonderful" meal. I ordered another salad. My bill totaled almost $26!!! This consisted of the "build a burger with added bacon, (not fully cooked), two side salads and iced tea. YEP, $13.99 for the "burger, nearly $5 each for the salads and iced tea. VERY DISAPPOINTED! Will search for other venues to hear this band or I'll at least go to dinner at a better restaurant before going to hear the band. read more

The manager Roy displayed irrational negative behavior when I went to the bar to order cokes since the waitress disappeared for 30 minutes. He was angry and told me to go have a seat after he asked if I was seated by a waitress or if my party seated ourselves. Told Roy I was seated by a waitress and I was appalled he would speak to a patron in this tone of voice. He came to our table with the sodas and continued to justify his negative behavior rambling on about how the staff only made 2 dollars an hour, how he had been in the business for 17 years (hard to believe), how he made some staff stay over their shift, etc. We told him he may need to find another occupation and he could now go about his job, but Roy kept RAMBLING ON OBVIOUSLY HAD A BEE IN HIS BONNET! He needs another anger outlet besides patrons, French Dip tasteless, had no cheese to make a pizza, restroom not cleaned, a negative experience. Will never go back, toxic. read more

Used the $10 for $20 yelp deal and we were glad we did! The tater kegs were amazing. Drinks were delicious and reasonably priced. We haven't always had the best experience here, but we never gave up on them. Looks like they are striving for customer satisfaction and we are looking forward to coming back soon. It's new, so I'm forgiving servers and kitchen staff for some things other reviews have mentioned. And the food is a little overpriced for the small quantities. But the atmosphere is great, the people were friendly, the beer selection was better than what you'd find at your typical bar, and the huge TVs everywhere are conducive to achieving the perfect Sunday afternoon. I'm excited to come back here for basketball season. read more
