This is a great park with a beautiful reservoir, hence its name! Definitely good for paddle-boarding or kayaking. Parking at the main location can be a pain especially early in the morning when all the early-bird runners are getting their workouts in. However, they have three other parking spots for access to the other trails: Elizabeth Rounds Park (570 Pee Dee Rd) or Whitehall Trail (490 Pee Dee Rd) and up north at Nick's Greenway (7200 NC 22 Hwy). The main loop (David R White) is about 2 miles long around the lake, but they have plenty of other trails that you can mix and match to add to your run. There are also little work out challenges through the path so you could end up doing a circuit-like workout as well. They also have a disc golf course going on too if you're into that. Overall, it's a lively park with a lot of people and is a trail runner's paradise with all the paths to take. So grab your running shoes because there is much to explore! read more

A lovely park in Southern Pines with hiking trails! Surrounding the reservoir is a wide, mostly gravel 2 mile trail. Some areas are paved. There are picnic areas and pavilions available near the parking area for parties. There is a restroom facility near the parking area. The trail is suitable for walking, running, biking, or pushing a stroller with trail wheels. Dog friendly, but must be kept on leash. Kid friendly, they don't have to be on a leash (lol). Exercise stations for the trail. Recommend brining water. Fishing is allowed. It is scenic and relaxing. Sometimes a bit crowded. This park is our "go to" for feeling like we left the suburban area and getting out into nature. read more

My family loves the Reservoir! It's outdoors and it's FREE! #walking- one lap around the lake is 2miles. #biking- there are multiple other trails that span off the main circle, so you can easily get a 10-20mi bike ride in. There is a bike repair station at the main park entrance #playing- a green hill/space and plenty of trails, a disc gold course. #"hiking"- it's the Sandhills! #boating- there is a boat ramp, new floating dock and kayak dock. #fishing- off the lake edge & dock #picnics- quite a few open picnic tables and a large covered area with tables #relaxing- benches, picnic tables & a swing, animal viewing (turtles, geese, ducks). #restrooms- they are typically fairly clean There is also exercise equipment scattered around the lake- parallel bars, balance beam, etc. Only things that could make the reservoir perfect would be play ground equipment, but then I might miss the "natural playground feel". read more

Great to find such nice facilities and good trails in town. Particularly appreciate the accessible picnic shelter with two tables and grills plus the accessible porta potty not far away. Looks like a good place for families, soccer practice, a little playground equipment. I did much more trail walking/hiking then I thought I would be able to do. Found trails all the way around the lake with some spur trails. Several nice benches, many nice viewpoints. Overall, all trails easy with only in a few occasional and mostly avoidable moderate spots. It would be very easy to walk out just as far as you want to and turn around and go back. I think a heavy duty stroller could handle it to the first little boardwalk. GPS says 3.3 miles today which is very good mileage for a small park. Took a lot of photos. Got an egret! Also saw something flying over that looked bigger than a hawk but couldn't identify it. Recorded some bird song. Great day, highly recommend it. Will be back. read more

Great disk golf course, beautiful walking / running trails and lots of shady trees. This is my favorite park in the area. Pet friendly, kid friendly and bike friendly too. There is a cute bridge near the entrance and plenty of nice spots for picnics and room to throw a ball or a frisbee. The parking lot could be a bit bigger, it's a large park and the parking lot is kinda small. I can't imagine trying to park here on summer weekends. There's also lots of signs warning people of the snakes and bugs in the area so you know what to look out for; I really loved that about the park (being informed is a awesome help). The disk golf course here is very well mapped and taken care of. You know exactly where to go and it's not common to loose a disk here and the course doesn't get too close to the reservoir. read more

Great running/biking trail that runs almost two and a half miles around the lake and attaches to other trails that spread elsewhere and also go for miles according to the maps they have posted. The loop around the lake is really nice, there are a couple little wooden bridges to cross as you wind in and out of the trees getting a different view of the lake every time. Scenic Lake to canoe, kayak, dock and spaces to fish or do other recreational activities. There are many picnic areas and even a disc golf course. My dog and I love to run here and after, he likes to take a dip in the lake with the ducks to cool off, just be careful for the snapping turtles !! We learned the hard way... One of the best trails I've been to so far in NC. It's a nice short trail, under 2 miles. It is a very scenic beautiful place that is great for singles, families and pets! Has decent size parking lot, benches throughout the trail, and even some grills! I would definitely recommend this trail to anyone looking for something that isn't too strenuous. read more

Gorgeous park with a casual 2 or so mile walk around the reservoir. The perfect length for a brisk walk. It's a fairly quiet trail where you can take your leashed dog. Also a very clean park, with grills and picnic areas overlooking the lake. There's also a good length disc golf course if that's your speed. Definitely worth a visit! read more

Spending the day in Harrisburg with my brother and he brought me to the Reservoir Park. The major fountain has been recently restored and is a valuable gem not to be missed! We love this park!! So relaxing and a nice flat walk!! Just beautiful. My kids and I love it here. It's also a great place to go for a picnic, bike ride or to take your dog for a walk. Gorgeous this time of year (April) with the dogwoods in bloom, butterflies and cardinals. Plenty of parking. Even when the lot is full it never gets crowded on the trails. I always have a great time here, whether running the loop a couple times, strolling around the reservoir turtle watching or taking the dog for a brisk walk. The loop around the reservoir is only a couple miles and totally flat so its good for everybody. Clean bathrooms and even a place to do pull-ups. Highly recommended. We're lucky to have this open space. It would be great if they could do something about the sewage stank just over the bridge though. read more

2 mile packed sand/ gravel loop around a beautiful resoviour. Path is semi shaded with a nice breeze near water. Exercise stations along path. Frisbee Golf in wooded setting. Wildlife like ducks, geese, squirrels, birds, and lizards. Appropriate for dogs on leashes, exercise strollers, bicycles, joggers and walkers. Benches throughout the area. This is a really great park. It has onsite restrooms, 2 picnic shelters, numerous picnic tables, a beautiful reservoir that you can fish in, there is a walking trail encircles the reservoir that is 2.1 miles in length so it makes for a very nice walk. This trail has numerous benches along the way for folks to sit and enjoy an afternoon, it also ties into several other walking trails as part of the Southern Pines walking/biking trail system, these trails are very well maintained an make for enjoyably walking/biking. The park also had an 18 basket Disc Golf course that is designed for beginner to intermediate players that is kept in excellent condition. This park is very well used, their is always somebody around if you should need some help. In warmer months there is a park person on hand. Whenever we go which is quite often their are always folks there walking, running, walking their dogs, fishing, and playing Disc Golf, and biking. Boats are allowed on the reservoir as long as they do not have gas motors. Electric trolling motors only. read more

This is a great trail, with lots of great scenery including several outlooks along the trail. The distance is perfect for getting your blood pumping on a nice afternoon walk or run. We pushed a stroller here, but it was a tad too bumpy in areas (not paved). Several connecting trails give options to adjust the distance if wanted. The trail seemed safe as well. read more
