    Kitchen in the studio

This hotel is actually on the WSU campus, although the hotel parking pass won't work on the WSU campus parking lots. It is easy to walk from the hotel to the school buildings. The hotel also provides with free shuttle bus to take us to any spot on the WSU campus. When I booked this hotel online, I wasn't too impressed by the photos. However, when we arrived our studio, we got a big WOW! The hotel studio was very spacious, and the kitchen was a full kitchen with everything equipped. If you are visiting your kids who study at the WSU, you can make them dinner here. Everything was very nice, just like what you would have at home. Although I did not cook during my stay, I did bring some to-go food back to the hotel and used the plates and the utensils provided by the hotel. I felt like I was eating at home. The bathroom was also spacious. There's only a shower, no bath tub, but it's okay for me since I am a shower person anyways. Because it's a studio type of room, the living room area and sleep area were separated, which was good as people who want to watch the TV won't bother people who want to sleep. My son even brought in his electrical keyboard to play in the living room area. Yes, the space was big enough to include a full size keyboard. The breakfast was pre-packaged food such as bagels and sandwiches. They were served warm on the food warmer. While we were a bit disappointed that we couldn't customize as we normally do at most hotels, we did understand that this might be the way to prevent COVID. Finally, the staff was very friendly and helpful. I really have nothing to complain about. If you are visiting the WSU, you really should consider this hotel.

This is our shower curtain. Mildew and mold all over it, we asked for it to be changed out in the morning and it was not changed that day.

This was nice until we took a shower. There was no shampoo or conditioner. The shower curtain was full of mold and mildew. They were less than helpful when I ask for curtain to be replace and supplies to be stocked.

In Pullman, Washington, this is THE hotel. Not only is it the only hotel actually on the WSU campus, it's also the newest and cleanest in town. Plus, there's a free shuttle to/from any place on campus or the nearby Pullman airport. The tiny lobby bar is tiny, but the bartender is a total gem with the best pours of drinks I've had ever ... ever. My nightly Gin & Tonic regimen was basically Gin & a splash of tonic. Perfect! It also seems like they have lobby events most evenings. The two coolest were free S'mores one night and the Southfork Public House Food Truck serving up Cougar Gold Mac & Cheese another night. I had the pleasure of staying here for a couple visits to town over a couple weeks and it was a good hotel for anyone doing business at WSU. My room was clean and new with a Kitchen, swivel TV, and large cool glass shower. The only annoyance was both rooms had full size refrigerators that were ridiculously loud ... so, I unplugged them and enjoyed a good nights rest. The on-site Fitness Center is a-ok while the Business Center is just a computer in the lobby next to the bar. Finally, breakfast was fast and free. DIY Waffles, fresh bananas, and scrambled eggs were the highlights. When it came time to book my next trip to Pullman for business, there was no doubt where I'd be staying ... THE hotel ... the Residence Inn Pullman.

Hotel McCoy - Another outdoor area for R&R

    Hotel McCoy

In town overnight and so glad we chose Hotel McCoy. Here are the highlights. Clean, convenient…read morelocation, Free beverage upon checkin, big screen tv, comfortable bed. This is not a fancy place but so comfortable. And the world's longest oatmeal breakfast bar was so delicious. Didn't get to check out the gym or the grilled cheese sandwiches but the outside patios are a great perk.

Not impressed, to say the least. We arrived around 4:00 pm and checked in. We were told where our…read moreroom was and told we could park in any spot, but not the EV spots. We realized we were on the second floor and there was NO elevator. It was quite a struggle to get our luggage up the stairs. When we arrived at our room, we were very underwhelmed. The wall AC unit was crazy loud and ran pretty much ALL the time. We couldn't figure out how to turn it off, but it was too hot to turn off anyways (100 degrees on our last day). The attention to detail in the room was low. There were wires hanging down behind the TV, the doors were removed from the closet (not sure why) and only one drawer had a handle/pull. The other drawers just had holes. The bathroom vanity was touch up painted in a different color. There's a table with four chairs with room for two people (the microwave is sitting on the table). These things just made the room feel kind of low quality - like it was a rush job renovation. The bathroom backs to an alley and has a floodlight shining in the window all night - with no window cover, so you have to keep the door closed all night if you don't want the bright light shining in. The bathroom door is super noisy, so it woke everyone up if one person would get up to use the bathroom at night. The shower drain was not draining well and we stood in a bit of standing water with each shower. To e bathroom is smaller than a cruise ship. Super tight! There was a lot of dust in the bathroom and the shower cleanliness was questionable. There were no towels or paper towels in the kitchen, which I thought was weird. There is no housekeeping and they don't even give you fresh towels each day. We had to go down to the office twice to ask and there was no one at the desk. We waited around for quite awhile and ended up having to knock on the staff door next door to request towels. Same thing another day. The breakfast is nothing but dry crockpot oatmeal with toppings and pop tarts. The oatmeal was ok for a day or two, but we got really sick of it by the third day. As far as sleep, I had a hard time because the windows only had pull down shades which didn't fit well and the sun started streaming in the back window early. The bed was comfortable but the pull out sofa bed was miserable. I felt bad that my daughter had to sleep on it. We were in Pullman to help my daughter move into her new apartment, so the uncomfortable bed pushed her to start sleeping in her apartment before it was even fully ready. The parking was a nightmare. The second night we returned late and couldn't find a spot. We tried to go to the office to ask where to park, but the office was closed. We drove around back and parked. We didn't notice any no parking signs. The next morning we had a tow warning notice on our car. We were never told where the overflow parking was - just not to park in the EV spots. Apparently you can park on the side of the hotel, but not the back. Thank goodness we didn't have our car towed! The three positives: The free drink on the first night was a nice perk. The people in the office were pretty friendly. The main bed was comfortable. The negatives: - No elevator - Loud, subpar AC - Floodlight in bathroom window - Rickety bathroom door - Poor drainage in shower - Tiny, dirty bathroom - No housekeeping or fresh towels - Very little parking - Limited breakfast (oatmeal and pop tarts only) - Uncomfortable pull out bed - No way to contact front desk, except calling main reservation line and getting an AI assistant or going down to office and speaking to someone (if they're there). - Dilapidated and dirty rooms We have stayed in Pullman before and while we understand that accommodation options are limited, we were shocked that this hotel had such raving reviews. It makes us question the validity of all this reviews...

Stayed here many times before, some rooms and have been better than others, as we have something to compare staying multiple times over many, many years. We love this location (5-stars!) and parking (5-stars!), and I remember their sheets from Costco (5-stars!) and a/c that works (5-stars!)! I only make multiple reservations on places we like. There's also areas here that need improvement, such as the late-check-in process (1-star) on one visit the front desk messaged us about their front closes after 9pm and this motel would not allow check-in and one trip we were in traffic on 5+ hour drive to Pullman and I had a panic attack on the phone with them, as I was told we could not check-in if we arrived late, which made us panic the entire drive (1-star experience!) but they were lovely and allowed us to check-in upon our later arrival (yeah!), but the experience was really terrible as we were super stressed! Or how the room on the 2nd level behind the office the arrangement of the single queen bed and TV was a bit funky (3-star for decor/vibe), but not a big deal as we don't stay in our rooms in Pullman except to sleep & shower. Some rooms appear fresh and clean (5-star) while others could use a refresher of paint or care (wobbly door handles or bathroom doors that don't close properly, as an example, 2-3 stars), but I try to update my newer experiences upon frequent visits and I always notice and write about those improvements and reflect on the experiences. This time my experience was a 1-star all around, sadly. It was New-Coug Move-In Weekend and we'd stayed Friday to Saturday at another motel and moved our youngest Coug into his dorm at 9am, but the overall time took longer than our prior move-ins we've experienced with our other Cougs. By 6pm we were overwhelmingly exhausted! We were ready to relax rather than make the 5-hour journey back home in the dark. My friend had canceled her reservation for Saturday to Sunday, and suggested I call directly to the motel, as every hotel and motel in a 20-mile radius was booked! No availability was showing online, and in order to get her spot she'd suggested I call Cougar Land Motel directly. Called Cougar Land and explained about her cancellation and could we take it? Yes it's available, cost is $350, yes, we will take it! Expensive? Yes, but worth the convenience of being able to walk to campus (5-stars!) to spend time with our eldest Coug and relax vs driving home in the dark is worth the $350! The woman answering the phone asked if I'd stayed there before? Yes, many times! She then tells me I left a horrible review (!) and why would I want to stay again? I was baffled. My husband and I looked at each other, as the call was on speaker. Did I leave a bad review? I was too exhausted to think/respond, and she was adamant I wouldn't be welcome again! As soon as she hung up on me, I quickly went through Yelp. What did I write that was so offensive I was denied a return visit? I noticed zero reviews from me for Cougar Land Motel! I did not delete any and I was curious what I'd written to cause her to deny us! As a Yelp Elite member I follow rules and community standards. My husband wondered why she didn't say, "Hey I noticed you gave a poor review, here's the changes we've made and we are thrilled you're coming back to experience a better outcome!" We discussed this on our 5-hour drive home in the dark, as mentioned, we were really looking forward to staying at a local hotel we'd stayed at for years! Pullman is a lovely small-town with a tight community. My family of Coug alumni frequently travels back to Pullman (aka. Returns "home") and this experience reminded us about how wonderful the Coug Community is, but to be super careful about offering feedback/reviews as you might not have a place to stay when you visit.
