Came here for a business trip. So wasn't looking for much. Arrived and staff was amazing. Lobby was also quaint. Felt warm and cozy. That is where things took a turn. Hallway was low. Room was clearly older. Ceiling had popcorn. Light switches were older. Overall the place felt old. Sink had a very large crack in it. Seemed they tried to patch it w white silicon. Property felt poorly maintained and dated. Not up to the standard I come to expect w the Residence Inn brand. On the positive side room was spacious. Breakfast was decent. read more

I kind of understand the various negative reviews for the Residence Inn. The Lobby and my room did seem to be a little tired and need of a refresh. Managing expectations is important, and mine were a good price considering Iowa's Homecoming Weekend, easy access to I-380, convenient parking, a clean and comfortable room, good flow in the shower, strong WIFI, and friendly/helpful staff. Those expectations ticked all the boxes, despite being a bit underwhelmed with the overall facility. The Residence Inn further south within metro Cedar Rapids is nicer and more convenient to Iowa City and the Airport, with pricing being the key difference this time around. read more

Giving this place a rating of one is exceedingly generous. If you appreciate sleaze you will feel welcome. From the dilapidated parking lot, to the sad reception area, the narrow dark hallways and pathetic guest room this is the definition of sleaze. The guest rooms have been refurbished but apparently with little thought. There are no usb ports in the room and three outlets at the desk two of which are used by hotel devices. The toilet is so low to the ground it is little more than a hole in the floor. The positives regarding the bath are a well placed substantial grab bar and a shower floor/tub that does not become like ice from the wall mounted liquid soaps. Now to the so called breakfast. Where to begin, the powered eggs were disgusting even for Marriott, the sausage, and the biscuits and gravy were flavorless, one salt and one pepper shaker (no individual packages of salt or pepper) for the entire breakfast area, no butter only chemical poison designated as whipped spread (typical for Marriott). The breakfast area is completely disorganized. Mcdonalds offers more enticing fare than this hotel. It would be difficult to do worse, with a national hotel chain, than this place. read more

HIGHLY NOT RECCOMENDED i honesly do not want to write a whole book about how bad this hotel is, so im just going to list off things, very uncomfortable fold out couch beds, uncomfortable beds, very dirty rooms, only like 3 workers in the entire hotel, only 41 tv channels, odd metal object in bathroom light fixture, weird white stain on office chair, pet hair EVERYWHERE, destroyed couch arms, very cramped bathrooms, popcorn roofs, food more dry than a desert, very old and low quality tvs, loud and old microwave, creepy people hanging around outside the front door waiting for somebody to open it, the bedsheets were obviously not clean, very loud dishwasher, hard to use coffee machine... that is the bad things about the rooms, now time to talk about the pool, the door is so rusted that the door does not have a locking mechanisim nor a shutting mechanisim its just loose, the hot tub does not work and the water is very murky and gross, the pool is freezing cold, there is no lifegaurd on duty, and life bouys or rings (whatever you wanna call them) are disgusting and have yellow crusty stains on them, now the only things that are good about this hotel is that the body wash and shampoos are actually pretty nice and they give out free cookies at the front counter and the fridge works good. Visited the Cedar Rapids Residence Inn for a few days on a trip through the area. I was expecting this to be a standard Residence Inn - clean and well appointed - not luxurious but middle of the road. However, I was disappointed with the visit. I arrived and the staff was pleasant and headed to my room. The first thing I noticed was an odd smell...not really discernable but not great. I figured out finally that it was the smell from the disposal which hadn't been run in who knows how long. I ran it with a ton of water and it got a bit better. Then, I went into the bathroom and noticed mold on the caulk on the walls - I debated doing nothing and just dealing with it, but decided it bothered me. I did ask for this to be cleaned and I think they tried but it still was there later (but now smelled of bleach which honestly was welcome after the disposal smell). The rest of the room was clean enough - though dusty in some areas. Not sure if the room had been empty for a while or not. They still have the regular evening hours with drinks/food. They had a bottle of white wine and a bottle of red along with some beers and non alcohol options as well. I didn't try the food, but it looked good. Wine was on the inexpensive end, but perfectly acceptable. Location isn't pretty - it's industrial - but it is nice that there's a large park nearby which has a pond/water park/playground/running and walking path/etc - that was honestly the best part of the trip - as I used this spot extensively. I didn't check out the hotel gym, but it is operational at all hours. I thought that the shampoo/conditioner options were ok but in the smallest bottles ever. I don't remember such tiny containers - and I recognize perhaps people stay here for long term stays so they bring their own, but had I had anyone with me, we would have used up the soap/conditioner in one round of showers. Lastly, the dogs...I don't mind dogs and don't mind a hotel that allows them. However, I expect dogs to be contained in some fashion...I saw multiple dogs during my stay. Two were unleashed (thankfully very well behaved) and one was leashed, but was trying to jump on me and had I been closer I think it may have tried to take a bite out of me. It was growling so much that I went the other way. The owner tried to calm the dog, but it wasn't working. So, while I'm ok with the dogs in general, I do think there should be some guidelines including leash requirements and ideally, dogs that are super unfriendly should have rooms very near the doors so that they don't have to interact with many people. Breakfast was one highlight - lots of options including eggs/bacon and breakfast sandwiches. Options for toasted breads/waffles along with scones, cereals, oatmeal, juices, etc. Definitely well stocked and delicious options for breakfast prior to a long day. read more

Not good.....Very dirty in the common areas and rooms. Staff was not very helpful. Property needs a makeover.

The tub caulking had a lot of mold. The black out curtains had large holes. The side doors did not lock and were not secure. I saw the breakfast attendant take out trash with gloves on and then came back inside and touched food with the same gloves. The Yogurt/oatmeal toppings did not have spoons or anything for us to scoop them out. I told the housekeeper we were going to the pool and once we were out of the room we would remove the DND and I had asked to not enter the room until then. We come back to the room to see the housekeeper in our room, and she had the door propped open while our belongings were in the room and she said she thought maybe we were staying another night, So why ignore the DND if you thought we were staying again? They do not care about safety or privacy at all. There are much better places to stay in Cedar Rapids. read more

We stayed here in August and when we went to our room the door was propped open, not sure it was our room but the front desk told us that housekeeping forgot to close it. This happened again a few days later when arrived back at our room the door was once again propped open with all of our belongings inside (we had let the front desk know and had the sign on the door that we did not need housekeeping). We also found that personal items that we had left on the table had been thrown away. When we informed the front desk we were told that there was nothing that they could do since we booked the room with Priceline we could not be given a refund. Choose somewhere else to stay, really! Hallway smelled of urine/diaper pail and it was so dark. The rooms are in dire need of a remodel and/or a refresh. We were struggling to get a cart in to the hotel and some things fell off, the clerk watched us and then turned around and left. Twice customers were wandering the halls trying to find a clerk. Use to be our go to place in Cedar Rapids for long term stay. It is falling in cleanliness. The housekeeping staff is lazy, they don't clean, skip on the toiletries and I caught them throwing the pillows on the foor. Our sheets were not cleaned in the four days we were there. There is was a dirty band aid on the sheet cushion since we have here. The weekend breakfasts were dry scrambled eggs, dried and reheated cold sausage. HORRIBLE ! This was brought up to the management and their employees don't care. May be time clean house? read more

Really wonderful place to lay your head! The staff is top notch, very attentive and caring. We were staying under very stressful circumstances and everyone went over and above to accommodate everything that was needed. Superb breakfast buffet, with choices from mixed fruits, cheeses, (even Brie Cheese!) Waffles, eggs, sausages, homemade oatmeal with lots of fun accoutrements, and yummy homemade coffee cake! Just simply wonderful!!! Monday thru Wed evening they host a themed social with excellent appetizers, beer & wine. I hope to stay there again under happier circumstances. STAY AWAY!! Some things the staff can't help: Ugly location. In an industrial neighborhood near factories and warehouses. Guests in a nearby room had a screaming f-bomb contest at 11:30pm. Some things the staff can help: Nothing was done when I called and complained about the f-bomb contest. The front desk service was pathetic. We were ignored for about five minutes until I finally asked for service at which point the two clerks rolled their eyes and heaved their shoulders and then begrudgingly helped us. Our room was dirty. White smears on the couch. A dirty q-tip on the floor. Used soap still in the shower. The hideabed had hairs and crumbs all over it. The pool was dirty and not heated. Our daughter spent 40 seconds in it before declaring it too cold. There were floaties on the water and junk on the bottom of the pool. On our way out in the morning one person in our group was at the front desk complaining because there were $400 of incidentals in their credit card that should not have been there. Another guest not in our party said the same had happened to them too. read more

Old furniture, huge gouge out of the kitchen counter, which was old-school formica. The kitchen looked like it came out of the 70s. Small, CRT TV unlike most with a large flat-screen TV. Staff was all sitting down in the lounge area when I came in and gave me a look like "what do you want" before they bothered to even stand up. Is Marriott going down hill fast or have I just been unlucky lately? And the room rate was no bargain either! read more

The hotel is supposed to be non-smoking, but upon entry to our room we immediately smelled smoke. When I contacted the front desk to request a different room I was told the were booked. The room served the purpose for less than 24 hours, but we would not stay there again. read more

5 stars for inexpensive chain. Rooms are being nicely rehabbed (Dec. 2011) and staff is incredibly nice and accommodating. Best breakfast for this type of motel I've had and generous selection. Free happy hour, and even complimentary dinner. read more

Stayed here once before. But this time I was surprised. It declined in cleanliness and over all service. I will let you know for all you dog lovers bring your dog large or small. And if you like hearing them bark all night this is the place for you. After one night of this I went down the street and got a better room for cheaper. I don't recommend. Find another place to stay!!! My room had ants, so to remedy this they gave ME a can of spray to deal with it. I sprayed the area that I saw the ants and thinking when they clean my room they will concentrate on that area, when I got back to the room that area was not touched. I also had a pair of shower gloves that i left in the bathroom and guess what, no go ahead and guess, yeah, they got thrown out. Also housekeeping has issues with emptying trash cans in the room. This hotel is just disgusting. It's been there for forever but I expected more from a Residence Inn. We stayed on the first floor, 104, in a two bedroom suite for $200 per night. I booked this room months ago because of a wedding I was attending. The dishwasher was full of dirty dishes; two windows in two rooms were slightly OPEN; the oven was full of chunks of different kinds of food that had been cooked in there; the burners were full of crumbs; the queen bedroom TV did not work; the queen bedroom phone did not work; the queen bedroom bathroom smelled horribly of sewer gas. I called the front desk shortly after we got in the room and the woman said the conditions were "nasty" and "unacceptable" and that she would have maintenance come first thing in the morning. It was a Friday night and she said they were sold out so she couldn't move us to a different room. The next day we got home from the wedding at 10:30 pm to find that NONE of the problems had been fixed. I went to the front desk and one lady said maintenance had been "tied up on a room that's out of service right now." So their priority is working on unoccupied rooms, not rooms that guests are staying in and having issues with? The sewer gas smell was the worst. We had to close the bathroom door and turn on the vent, and also close that bedroom door. My 5 children were piled up on the pull-out couch and the king bed with my husband and I. The chairs at the dining room table were peeling horrible and looked past their prime. You couldn't sit in them with shorts on because the peeling, cracked covering was pokey and itchy. We were told that a manager coming in on Sunday morning had mote authority and could give us a discount. I doubt we see any reimbursement. This place was just awful. read more
