Located just outside of Lucasville, the rest area serves both North bound and South bound traffic. It has full restroom facilities, including a family restroom, and a nice lobby with map and regional brochures and advertisements. The Rest Area has a picnic areas, vending machines, and can accommodate cars, trucks, and commerical trucks. It's also a great "pet stop" if are traveling with a pet.

The I-71 NB Rest Area is located off of I-71 Northbound, around mile marker 67 in Jeffersonville/Fayette County. It is about 40 minutes out from Downtown Columbus, and a little over an hour from Downtown Cincinnati. There is a sister rest stop if you are on the opposite side of the road, so this specific one only has access from the North Bound lanes. This rest stop is a smaller spot that has restrooms, vending machines, travel information, seating, and a lot of outdoor space to utilize. There are no restaurants or quick-service food stands here, so a stop for something like that will need to happen elsewhere. However, if you are just in need of a quick bathroom break, an area to let your pet out, or a safe place to stretch your legs, this will be the best option. I was very impressed with the overall appeal of this rest area. It is open, clean, modern, and very interesting. It is clear that this is either a newer rest area, or it has had recent renovations to make it as nice as it is. The interior features a lot of wood framing along the ceiling and the walls, which make it feel very warm and inviting. There are several chandeliers, as well as perimeter lighting that all brighten the center of the space. Along the entrance area and the right wall, there are floor-to-ceiling windows that really bring in both the natural light and beauty from the surrounding outdoor spaces. There is a lot of imagery and information about the state, and the specific areas that are closest to this stop throughout the building. Additionally, there is an area on the right-hand side that features some displays and museum-like items about some different aspects of Ohio history. A lot of the pictures and information are associated with the greater Columbus area. It was fun to go around and look at everything on display. Definitely one of the most informational rest stops I have ever been at, and I mean that in a good way! Inside, there are some chairs along the right-hand side, as well as bench seating in the center of the building. On the left-hand side, there is a small room with about 7 vending machines. The restrooms are located along the back wall, and are easily visible when you enter the space. They were clean, modern, and overall serviceable. Other than that, there is not much else going on inside. Though the interior is nice, the outside is what really stood out to me. First, the facade of the building is very appealing to the eye. Similar to the interior, it is clean and modern looking. There are several paved paths that lead from different parts of the parking lot to the building, making it accessible for everyone. The exterior features some rocking chairs that sit under the overhangs on each side of the building. There are also some benches and picnic-style tables in this area as well. The paved paths also have a few benches on them to utilize. There is even a trail that begins behind the building, and is accessible via paved path. It is called Storybook Trail, which features child-height pages from a children's book that can be read as you make your way through the trail. This is provided by Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Ohio, which I think is just so cool. So, if you have small children on your road trip, this is a great place to stop with this neat feature. All over the property, there are Ohio Native Plants. There is a lot of signage going into detail about where these plants are located, what they are, and how they help the local environment. Rest stops are usually not filled with so much landscape, let alone kinds that are native to and also beneficial for the area. All of the plants really enhance the beauty of this space, and give you something to do and learn about during your stop. Our visit here was on a Sunday in September around 5:30 PM, and it was not too busy. We were able to be in and out pretty quickly. The fall foliage and atmosphere really helped to highlight the building, intentional landscape, and surrounding area that this rest stop sits on. Overall, it was a great experience stopping here. I would highly recommend making some time on your trip to stop at the I-71 NB Rest Area. It is very modern, accessible, and one of the more interesting rest areas I have ever seen. There is something for everyone, but especially smaller children. Plus, all of the displays, the trail, and the information are all free to partake in. Though there are no hot food options here, the other aspects of the stop make it worthwhile to spend some time at. I will definitely be stopping here on my next trip along 1-71!

It's almost like walking through a small arboretum. Educational displays identify native trees, flowers, grasses, and shrubs, making it far more interesting than your typical interstate stop. Inside, the theme continues. The walls are filled with displays highlighting communities, attractions, parks, and destinations around Central Ohio and across the state. As you're heading north toward Columbus, it's almost like Ohio is introducing itself before you arrive. Most rest areas are places to make a quick stop and get back on the road. This one is worth taking a few extra minutes to explore. Nicely done, Ohio.
