Haven't been to CG's in quite some time, even though I'm very fond of the place. This time a bunch of colleagues got together for an AW/dinner and we made a reservation to enjoy both company, food, and drinks. We were a total of 10 and seated on the patio outside. They have warm gas burners for chilly summer nights (such as this one), blankets on the chairs, and they truly keep the service to the same standard on the outdoor seating area as well as inside. For more details on the decor and history of the restaurant, please see my previous review.
I was first on the scene, so I sat down and within a few minutes the rest of my compadres had arrived. I were to drive home afterwards so stuck to the non-alcoholic section of the drink list. I started out with a Virgin Fairytale consisting of elderberry cordial and Richard Julin Blanc le Blanc. Sweet and bubbly, really delicious. Going over the menu I settled for some interesting dishes and gave the waitress completely free hands on drinks of choice to my food. The first dish was tartar of eye filet, herb emulsion, pickled silver onion, soured cream, whitefish roe, bread crunch and watercress. Delicate yet packed with flavor and looked absolutely beautiful while also absolutely yum! To drink I was served an (almost) non-alcholic beer from Mikkeler that had a lot of citrus tones. While not a fan of beer in general (I prefer wines and cocktails) this one was a truly pleasant experience! For main I had charcoal barbequed reindeer with butter-poached oyster mushrooms, onion cream, celeriac, smoked bacon, salsa verde, Västerbotten-cheese cream, lingonberry jus and pommes purée. Oh. My. God! Food at its almost best. Pretty much a flawless dish! I was served a non-alcoholic red wine to this dish, and it was sadly on the other end of the spectrum. Thin, sweet, tasting almost like child lemonade. I stuck with the beer from Mikkeler instead.
There are some berries that just evokes childhood memories in me, and truthfully, food that bring out memories are some of the absolute best food that you can eat. And since they had cloudberries on the menu it was a done deal. So with a bit more detail I was served preserved cloudberries (thus keeping them a bit acidic), whey ice cream, oat biscuit crunch, and panna cotta. Two thumbs up! It was delicious!
So once again CG's deliver an experience that meet my expectation though not exceeding it. The service is pretty much impeccible, friendly and attentive, and the food simply just delivers both on appearance and flavor. I'm as positive as the last time I was there, and of course I'll be back again! read more
